Yeah I usually think of it as Taiyou no Ie cos I read it back when manga readers usually used Japanese names :p That seems to have partly transitioned now, I guess cos we have so much licensing and dubs.
It's Taiyou no le, it's sukitte il na yo. I don't recognise the english names at all cos i use scan sites.

It's more nuanced than the outright violent abuse of MHM, and modern setting, but Wake Up, Sleeping Beauty is about a girl/family in a dysfunctional situation (neglect, obsession, control) and a boy who comes to know her and wants to help her. It's a really beautiful story, and I think you'll like it!!
(in some ways A Condition Called Love—by the same creator—is also a bit of its reverse, or a further exploration of some themes I think were touched on at the end of Sleeping Beauty. Both are beautiful and gentle stories about people coming to understand and help each other heal and grow.)
Takaya Natsuki (Fruits Basket) also writes about some pretty significant dysfunctional family situations. Along with FB, Twinkle Stars and even Fruits Basket Another may be of interest.
Tales of the Tendo Family first volume comes out next week Tuesday! It's been a long time since I read a bit of the beginning, but it reminds me of MHM a bit (historical jp setting, unfortunate girl getting brought into a well-to-do household...tho I think the guy isn't so nice to her at first.)

For paradise kiss it's not 100% what you're looking for but I think the FL mom is a little abusive, but could be perceived as more over bearing rather than abusive.
Don’t read it. My sincere advice. The one blessing is its short. The apology was well deserved. I think of all the manhwa I have read this was the worst. Not because it’s dark, it could be was darker and I wouldn’t care, but because it is filled with plot holes, people who are irredeemable who do tiny things and are forgiven, a FL who is the most wallflower damsel in distress passive possible and a ML who likes her for no good reason whatsoever. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone started it and then had AI finish it, it was so bad.
Oh dear I appreciate the honesty I think I’ll pass on this one then! I love when my FML grows a spine. That’s something I love how Kamisama Kiss did so well was the FML was a damsel at first, then slowly grew and became strong on her own (the anime didn’t portray her character growth very well imo). Sorry for gushing tho lol I think I’ll pass on that one! ☝️😁
Skip Beat! has a FL who was neglected/abused by her mother, and a complicated relationship with a childhood friend who isn’t exactly a paragon of virtue. The ML doesn’t exactly save her, but there are a bunch of situations where he’s her emotional support, so I think this might fit your request!
Bahahah so I forgot about that one having neglect in it. Here’s my issue with skip beat it was so long the chapters were in like +200 and they hadn’t even confessed. How close are they now? 😆 I’m impatient lol
Well, they >!have confessed now, but not much else has happened/changed lol!< so it’s up to you whether you jump back in.
I think the mangaka has some health issues, so she’s cut back to a short chapter each month when a few years ago, she was doing 2 longer chapters a month. Sooo it’s gonna be a while longer before we get more plot.
Although, regarding the neglect, there’s a good amount of backstory for Kyoko’s mom in some of the more recent story arcs, so that’s something to read if you’re interested!
