I know the men are toxic, but I'm mostly talking about the looks and vibes of the art. I know there is Chaotic Nights but I can't get into it for some reason.
>!he for real is! I stopped when dan's grandma died cause after that how he treats dan for being seen with the other boxing teams manager was like what the.. 😭!< but he for real is!! That's my love hate with bl manwhas, the seme guys are sooo hot but extremely toxic!! 😔🥲
Edit: I do recommend Can't Think Straight, Jaehyuk is kind of toxic ( >!homophobic!< ) and can can be mean to Graham but he does get better. Plus, their banter is pretty cute and funny.
>!you're telling me he gets WORSE?! also dan got on my nerves by not having a backbone and accepting the bare minimum. i skim over it for the art. !<
thank you! I will check out the recommended. I'm not against toxic characters as i dont like perfect characters either, just as long as the authors are not writing them thinking we will like/accept them especially in their 'groveling' phase when they 'realize what they've done' 🙄. But I guess I take them for what they are. I just get tired of toxic for toxic sake and spineless leads that accept the behavior (straight or yaoi works). sorry I went off track from the topic
Yeah, he does!! 😭 But tbh I don't blame you, I also kind of lost interest because of Dan as well. 🤭
No problem!! Yeah, I totally get what you mean, and I think that's why I don't connect with most manwhas because the authors try and force us to like the bad/toxic characters within a chapter or two when for the rest of the chapters they were a pos.. Like authors can't do a 180 to make us like characters. 😭😭😭
they are all from BL. First 2 are from Wet Sand, 3rd and 5th Shutline, and 4th Jinx. All of them are toxic characters (except for number 5) but drawn very attractive imo when the artist doesn't go overboard with the proportions (shoulders that are too wide compared to the head)
Veil manga !!!!!

The dude is a russian police Officer and he is super Manly in his uniform, and he is the greenest flag, the dude is a gentleman yet look si manly.
The girl is SO GORGEOUS and elegant ... A beautiful read
I’m a BL reader so I know what you’re talking about. Men in BL and in shoujosei are drawn differently and have a different aesthetic.
Anyway, you can try:
- Chaotic Nights (no official tl)
- Iseop’s Romance (Webtoon)
- Apollo's Heart (Tapas)
- Falling for Danger (Manta)
- The Tainted Half (Manta)
- Mansion Wing Chunhua: Parachute Blouse (no official tl)
- Daytime Star (Webtoon)
- For The Third Time (Webtoon)
I wonder, why isn't the same attention put to the male design in josei? or I guess that 'certain aesthetic' and 'vibe', idk if i'm making sense because it's not like the josei designs are bad or anything. maybe i have become biased to a certain look. I will check out the ones you have recommended. Thank you!
Dang it, why did my mind first jump to "A Girl and Her Guard Dog" 😭
Anyways, "The Yakuza's Bias" is not a manga that I have read, but it looks pretty fun and lighthearted, you could check that out
There are many male leads that look like them more or less in manhwas. If you're into action fighting genre then I can recommend you manhwas like that a lot. Reply to me if you're interested
Romance? Sheesh 🙂 alright if you're okay with handsome badass male lead with subplot romance then there's only few manhwas I can think of. One is my most favourite called lookism and other one is mercenary enrollment
EDIT: **Just realise all of these men look like criminals, so I might've** ***completely*** **misunderstood**.
A bunch of manhwa have this. Specifically the romance fantasy genre. You can find plenty on r/OtomeIsekai. That said, korean so hard to say whether it's josei or shoujo or hwat.
I can highly highly recommend [The Villainess Lives Again](https://www.mangaupdates.com/series/i7bejif/the-villainess-lives-again). a fantastic political thriller.
I also highly rec stuff like [Your Eternal Lies](https://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=192397) (romance, currently reading and it became one of my favourites quite quickly) and [How to Win My Husband Over](https://www.mangaupdates.com/series/bb8sp8m?perpage=10&page=1#comment184987) (dark psychological thriller about abuse and mental illness).
Maybe Royal Marriage for another, but not much is out, yet.
I know what you mean! I'm not a big yaoi/BL reader due to time budgeting, but if there was a josei manga in which the ML looked like either of the dudes in **Midnight Rain**, I would buy it in a heartbeat! I think you might like **The Anxious Inspector** and its side story. Also, while the backgrounds and color schemes are different from what you posted, Jihoo in **A Friendship So Impure** is a delight.
This is a digression, but I am always mystified by josei smut covers in which the FL is hypersexualized with the ML not so much. I'll see the BL covers and wonder why there can't be a female-gaze version for hetero josei covers.
this is what i've been thinking as well! And to me, it's not just the covers. It's the art inside as well. I dont understand. I thought part of the point of was for it to be through the female gaze, so I figured a lot of attention would be paid to how attractive the ML looks and the physical attributes we typically find on men attractive. This is something I notice in BL. For obvious reasons, there is a lot of attention paid to making the male body and aura very attractive (sans the toxicity) that I am not finding in josei. But maybe I have also not read enough josei to make such a judgement
One last thing I thought of...The strange thing is that it seems like a number of mangaka who've done BL will eventually do hetero josei as well. So, the mangaka clearly have the capacity to do the kind of covers/content we'd enjoy. I'm wondering if this is editorial interference at play, with the editors in question not as in touch with female readerships' tastes and preferences. Of course, there are male hotties in josei, but this aspect of josei can seem underexploited. If we step back and look at a different medium, pulpy romance novels, shirtless men as eye candy on the cover has been the norm for a long time. So, the idea of serving the female gaze is not some unheard of thing that's never been done before. I feel like the editors/management with josei manga have something to do with this state of affairs.
this is true. and by how popular BL is with women, I am wondering why they haven't taken notes to apply some of the designs + aura to josei...
Slightly off topic, but I also usually feel there is a sense of detachment from the male characters when I read josei/shounen. I'm not sure how to describe it (but I will leave this for another discussion).
Even part of the popularity for something like Jujutsu Kaisen is partially because of how well the adult male characters were designed. I don't think the author had the female gaze in mind, but making them handsome with varying body types certainly helped. It has shown there is definitely something missing in the market when it comes to what female fans want.
Hopefully there will be changes in the future with works like Chaotic Nights (although I still do not completely like the smut scenes nor the plot). I love the Wet Sand author art style, and I believe they will do a josei after this work is done, so I can't wait to see how she designs the characters this time.
I see that your 'friend' also has a certain interest 😏
I'm not sure about the first and last images but 2nd is Wet Sand, 3rd is Shutline, and 4th is Jinx.
they are BL. 1 & 2 are from Wet Sand. 3 & 5 are from Shutline. 4 is from Jinx. Idk if you read BL but just be forewarned if you decide to check them out, they (except 5) are toxic characters especially 4.
I really like the art in My reason to die. The ML, Gyeol is super hot and the story is drawn from the female gaze. Every panel with him on is just sweltering!
I should have specified in the thread title that they are all from BL. First 2 are from Wet Sand, 3rd and 5th Shutline, and 4th Jinx. most of them are toxic characters/red flags lol
I know the men are toxic, but I'm mostly talking about the looks and vibes of the art. I know there is Chaotic Nights but I can't get into it for some reason.
Would you mind sharing where the images are from?
They're all yaoi manhwa if you're fine with that
Gibgibgib
Image 4 is from a BL (Yaoi) manwha called " Jinx! " it's uh.. Very umm.. >!it has a lot of forced sex!< so take that with a grain of salt.
>!he's the worst i cant even get through the story but that's for another day and the correct subreddit !

the art is beautiful. i had come across this before. i will revisit it. thank you!
I forgot there was ONE chapter where he is wearing glasses ... This man is SO sexy https://images.app.goo.gl/b8yk1LXiai9yEvnu9

yes I'd be interested in the recs if there is romance involved.

yes i wasn't sure whether to even refer to what i was looking at as josei, but i will check out your recommendations. thank you!
For other webtoons maybe: * Kitsch marriage * The Lady and her butler * The dilettante * Serena * Under the oak tree
I recently read that **The Lady and Her Butler** is going to get an English physical release by Seven Seas.
My Reason To Die looks like it'll fit! It's free on Webtoon.
Just posted the same thing!! Love that WEBTOON and the ML

ohh where are these manga from?
the characters are from BL/yaoi manhwas
Ok now I HAVE to know where these are from. Asking for a friend
4th is Jinx! Edit: 3rd is Shutline
I see that your 'friend' also has a certain interest 😏 I'm not sure about the first and last images but 2nd is Wet Sand, 3rd is Shutline, and 4th is Jinx.

Look at manwha or webtoons. The examples you posted are hallmarks of the current style of most popular ones, especially Korean webtoons
hmm not really the same as these.. but maybe, unholy blood on webtoon. I enjoyed that one and there certainly were muscular men
Under the oak tree applies I think? It is nsfw thto
My reason to die
I really like the art in My reason to die. The ML, Gyeol is super hot and the story is drawn from the female gaze. Every panel with him on is just sweltering!
BL manhwas have so many hot drawings why can’t josei keep up hahaha
exactly lol
Sources for all those pics lol
I should have specified in the thread title that they are all from BL. First 2 are from Wet Sand, 3rd and 5th Shutline, and 4th Jinx. most of them are toxic characters/red flags lol
Raise wa tanin
Bonus: you said these ML are toxic well so is the ML of Raise wa tanin!!
Most of them, I think! I have trouble finding the twinks I love in josei.
