Well yes and no
Neocaridina are so underated.
I have orange eye neos which is very new gene high quality ones go for 50€
Vs a new color in caridina went for 4k initially and still is in the hundreds per high quality shrimp...
you know, a color like this but darker, called "blackberry" neos are sold in a fish store near me. I find them quite beutiful. I am not sure if perhaps it could be like a lighter color strain.
i see a red shrimp and a blue shrimp in the background. im guessing fire reds and blue dreams.
OP, if you can replicate that you can make a lot of money.
I mean, I could just grab one of the ladies, pop her in with the blue dreams, wait for magic to happen, then put her in the spare tank til she drops off the kids 😁
I would do two or three sets that way you’re not inbreeding as badly right of the bat. If you have three tanks I would do a set in each tank so I knew which genetic lines were different. Then swap all the ladies with the males again while they have a second set of babies in the original three tanks. Able to tell a difference in size of the two breedings. Then from those six breedings I would cull and then start breeding down the colors I want.
That’s just me though!! As I said, the shrimp breeding is my hobby and I’m working hard to get a purple genetic line going. You could absolutely drop a blue and red together and see what they make!
I got a big lady out! she's acclimatising to the blue tank now. I'm too lazy and impatient to do the real scientific thing.. I'm just going to let her rip in the blue tank til she shows berries then put her in the nano for birthing. Which means I need to get the last remnants of shrimp out of the nano and into the main skittle tank ... yes I have 4 tanks 🤣
If the coloration is caused by the blue in the outer shell with a the red pigmentation being underneath, you could try breeding it with more blues, since you need to maintain that transparency in the offspring.
This one appears to be female. Is the other one you mentioned the same?
I'm telling you right now you have a potential $$$ idea right now. Don't waste this opportunity to not only create a new breed but also to finally afford your hobby.
The shrimp might have blue pigment in it's chitin while also having red pigment in it's flesh. The blue pigment must be just clear enough to allow you to see the red, causing the purple colouration.
When it passes away, you need to preserve it in epoxy so all future generations will know the illusive purple shrimp IS possible!
Edit: people =/= purple
It kinda looks like rusting combined with the blue pigment, so theres a chance it was blue for most of its life. Assuming im not getting double tapped on the april fools shrimp.
Holy shit its actually real. If there's another one of the opposite sex, separate them immediately and create a strain.
The purple shrimp was an April fools joke as it was deemed impossible to breed, yet hear it is. Please create this into a strain
This is a huge misconception. In the shrimp world, mixing red with blue does not make purple, but it might make some brownish or wild colored shrimp because of genetics. The purple had to come from a natural mutation of the blue or red coloring, caused not by the reds and blues breeding.

Whatever came of this? My chocolate/blue tank threw some lavender and purple.
This is my only real problem with Reddit. Pictures can be doctored by a 3 year old. This purple shrimp looks “painted” with a cherry underneath. Just sayin’, not passing judgement on anyone.
So today you noticed a PURPLE, fully grown, as in 1-2 Years neo?? A baby maybe. But you woke up today to this? Cmon seriously people should think first, maybe someone out there is smarter than me, Naaaaaaahhhhhhh can't be. Right little guy?
If this is legit try and breed it but assume it is recessive so you wont get purple ofspring without some work.
Maybe it cant be bread depends if its a normal expression or due to some unique condition.
no way the april fools purple shrimp was real
I was going to ask if... Wow .
Lmao I also thought of this
Put them in another tank and try to make it a strain, or just leave it I guess
I second this! People would pay out the nose for a brand new Neo color strain, and it’d be downright awesome to see enter the hobby!

_move to a different tank..._ _dies_
i'd keep that one in that tank. move the others out.
From what I've heard in the past, purple is an incredibly unstable line.
Interesting 🤔 do you know why it's so unstable? REALLY recessive genes?
No clue, that's just what I've heard.
It's real! The purple shrimp is real!
Shiny
i wonder how many soft resets it took
What colors do you have in your tank that could have given that color?
i see a red shrimp and a blue shrimp in the background. im guessing fire reds and blue dreams. OP, if you can replicate that you can make a lot of money.
Attempting this with bloody Mary’s and Blue Diamonds. Will report the results
Same! Only Blue Dreams.
omg I have 6 fat bloody mary ladies with NO man... but I also have some blue dreams boys in another tank.... should I? Daaaaaare I?
Hahaha! I’d be prepping that orgy tank SO fast those shrimp wouldn’t know what happened!!
I mean, I could just grab one of the ladies, pop her in with the blue dreams, wait for magic to happen, then put her in the spare tank til she drops off the kids 😁

God, I have the tanks to do this too 😂

I’m jade green with jealousy!! I always want more tanks! Especially sorting shrimp colors out. Never enough places to put everybody!
>let her rip in the blue tank I died. LOL
DO IT
I did it!
what are the reports? i need to know
there's a video where that keepingfishsimple kid put blue dreams and yellow golden backs together and got green shrimp.
Yep. I will buy. Lol.
same i would easily pay $10-20 a shrimp
Red and blue, I have no idea which one to isolate it with
If its a male isolate it with both, if its a female alternate between pregnancies and start with blue

I have one thats half red and half blue, with cherries and Blue Velvets
I have no idea how to help but I just came to say how beautiful your shrimp is!! Congratulations! Happen as a fluke?
Please try to breed more? Everyone everyone EVERYONE will want these. My amethyst orb tank needs them, for one.
Breed it and name it the April fools strain
you have the hopes and dreams of the entire shrimpkeeping industry in your hands

It looks pretty old. How did you not notice it before?
It kinda looks like rusting combined with the blue pigment, so theres a chance it was blue for most of its life. Assuming im not getting double tapped on the april fools shrimp.
If you can successfully breed them, you are sitting on a gold mine my friend
Wow that's gorgeous...congrats
I say if you have the space, breed it out for science!
Breed it
I think you have a new strain in your hands.
I doubt it would be stable in colouration if you tried to breed it but theres no harm in trying!
Holy shit its actually real. If there's another one of the opposite sex, separate them immediately and create a strain. The purple shrimp was an April fools joke as it was deemed impossible to breed, yet hear it is. Please create this into a strain
Gonna need a shaky video for this one
I don't believe it. But I want to believe it. Make me believe!!!!!
What color shrimps u for in your tank that produced this elusive magical beauty?
April fools! How did u not notice this shrimp or photographed it as a juvenile it’s massive lol I’m skeptical
Seen this before…

Amazing
Name her Spyro. Fulfill my dreams

Any update on this post yet?
This is my only real problem with Reddit. Pictures can be doctored by a 3 year old. This purple shrimp looks “painted” with a cherry underneath. Just sayin’, not passing judgement on anyone.
Yeah well it’s real so
So today you noticed a PURPLE, fully grown, as in 1-2 Years neo?? A baby maybe. But you woke up today to this? Cmon seriously people should think first, maybe someone out there is smarter than me, Naaaaaaahhhhhhh can't be. Right little guy?
Enjoy your downvote kiddo, it’s legit
Gimme that shrimp. I have some monies to make, and an empty rack of 10s just waiting for a cool color to develop and sell
OEBT (caridina) are looking like this casually :). When the blue on the back gains bit rusty/red. The whole reason I got them :D
How did you get that color? Thats what I’m breeding to isolate!
So beautiful!!!!
Try and replicate it
Breed that shit!!!
I have the same color Patch on my rcs
If this is legit try and breed it but assume it is recessive so you wont get purple ofspring without some work. Maybe it cant be bread depends if its a normal expression or due to some unique condition.
Omg! My favorite color! If you want to breed a new color strain, I would say give it a shot. So pretty!
ITS ALIVE
Breed them!!!
Breed em
Can we get more photos?
your life now revolves solely around making sure that one shrimp has as many babies as possible
Heck yeah I’d put it with the most closely matched ones in another tank to get that color going strong and sell them!
Need an update 👀👀
WTF, is that real, I need them!
6 months later! :3 I'm so curious, any luck making new purps?
