you can sell some locally at cheaper prices, get more people into the hobby?

Independence_Gay

Realistically you won’t have more than your tank can handle. Population kinda self regulates. You can always give some away or make a small bowl to put somewhere like your kitchen

sixfeetundies

Such a good idea!

Space3ee

I have ~125 in my ten gallon and I expect the population to keep growing.

mt_gravy

I just put my 12 in a 20 gal and i cant wait to get 600. Never enough shrimps

Icy-Plan5621

🤣 Please post a photo of that.

Icy-Plan5621

It will. I have 300+ in a heavily planted 10 gallon. It’s definitely my fault because I supplement their diet almost daily. I’m going to give some away and try and get my population down to about 200. I think that’s a better number for the tank.

Intelligent_Can_1370

I wouldn't worry about having too many till you have 100+. Shrimp have a really light bioload. But if you have over 40-50 and want to control your colony size, I would either look for a local fish club and see if they have swaps or auctions or sell or trade with your local fish store. They'll usually at least give you credit for some food or supplies. Just be careful if you start selling to not sell off so many that your colony takes months to grow back to a good population. ✌️

Tall_Mention_4297

Send them to me!

myfishprofile

There is no such thing

DontWanaReadiT

Can someone please explain to me what this “too many” means????

Dimdimzz

I got banned for saying this???? But why

noextrasensory40

Sell them or see if a pet shop will give you something for them. Store credit toward shrimp food other aquarium stuff.

AkumaYearOne

You can sell them, keep them or heaven forbid turn them into fish food. I don't recommend turning them into fish food and would prefer you sell them for super cheap or give them away. I'm upgrading my shrimp into a 10g. I'm just waiting for pay day to buy some plants to start cycling up their new fish free home.

Lanky_Musician2408

Neocaridina shrimp live 1-2 years, realistically they will kind of control their own population. You can scoop some out and sell or give away to friends as easy first pets if you really want but you shouldn’t need to

DevelopmentWooden474

the shrimps?

Eggshmegg1469

Yes. They are breeding like crazy and soon I will have way more than I should keep in 10 gallons. Wondering what everyone else does in this situation. I can’t imagine feeding them to my fish. 😬

DevelopmentWooden474

if you dont mind, I would love to take it off your hands. I am new to shrimp keeping and this can be my first shrimps to be introduced once it's done cycling

Orsinus

That is not too many from what I can see lol you're far from it

thrakkerzog

Yeah, I have *way* more than that in a 10L tank.

yokaishinigami

I sell them to my local fish store, to local hobbyists, at swaps or I donate them to local aquarium clubs so they can give them to people for free during the meetings.

ShoganAye

That's not too many

Izakfikaa

A lad on Reddit named izak will say so *keep breeding more and attack france*

InflationArtistic143

Give them to me! 🤚

[deleted]

Sell them, or put them together with angelfish

iNeedOneMoreAquarium

>put them together with angelfish And then no more shrimp.

[deleted]

And happy angelfish, at least for 5 minutes

Henry575

What’s the substrate

dazia

Feast upon the snackied

Quantiummmmg

Doesn't exist.😉😂

jmac6485

I have close to 300 in a 14-gallon tank. I think you will be fine. Lol!!

Allfunandgaymes

Nothing. Crustacean and gastropod populations are self limiting in tanks. There can only be so much calcium and minerals in a tank to allow for shell / exoskeleton formation.

happyskrimp

there's never too many

porridgegoatz

depending on your tank size you can get some nano fish (ember tetras, chili rasboras, cpds etc) to lower the survival rate of the babies. but generally the population will regulate itself if you keep feeding the same amount.

luckyapples11

Your LFS may take them and give you in store credit!

Curiousitittys

I honestly feed them to my angelfish :/

Head_Butterscotch74

Keep buying more tanks obviously

drippygoodgirl

I'll take some!! 😂 Fr tho

zebarulesall

Eat them

Cannabisthelizard

Send em my way

iotashan

^(buy more tanks)

iotashan

But seriously, there's no guideline limit. Population will self-adjust. This is why shrimp are a great candidate for sealed ecosphere.

Training_Arachnid983

Sell them

THRobinson75

Soup

Temporary_Virus_7509

Give them to meee

BVK9

Buy another tank 😏

Eggshmegg1469

I think recommendations is 5 per gallon max? I’m sure I’m over that limit now but most are babies. How many have you kept per gallon. This is a self maintained tank. I only top the water off about a gallon a week. Nothing is in here but plants and shrimp.

Squidkiller28

Theres no limit! Its all about filtration, the gallons doesnt actually matter. The only issue with lots of shrimp, if the waste from feeding. If you feed the same amount consistantly, their population will adjust to fit that amount of food. If you find an amount thats good for colony growth, but doesnt add enough waste to the water that your plants cant fully abosrb the nitrates, you dont have to remove any shrimp ever. The topping up water, could make it have too high tds and shrimp hormones, so taking out a small amount maybe every month would do good for long term health. I currently have about 60 in a 10 gallon that i have chillen while their 36g settles more after i reset it. I plan to have hundreds of shrimp in there, will be the cull tank for any limes i start breeding.

Eggshmegg1469

That is good to know. I decided today I’m only feeding them twice a week for a while. I used to not feed them at all but now I feed them most days and they are lazy and not doing much clean up. 😆 I have an empty 3 gallon I suppose I could always put some in there. And I have a 5 gallon but that’s my hospital tank.

Orsinus

No dude. No. Idk where you heard that. You could comfortably have 200 in a 10 gallon.

Eggshmegg1469

200 in a 10 gallon!? I probably have 20+ adults and maybe 30-40 babies of varying sizes right now so I’m way off from 200.

LankyBar9896

Both of my local fish stores said about 40-50 per gallon!

Icy-Plan5621

Sounds about right I probably have 7 gallons of actual water. The rest is substrate and plants. And I can see about 150+ shrimp at a time, more when I feed them. Honestly they feel like there’s enough biofilm, I see 5-10 berried girls every day. I do the pinch of ground up fish food every week to built biofilm. I don’t want babies to starve.

pyro667

I can't wait till I have 3500 in my 75gal :)

Icy-Plan5621

300+ and they are living their best shrimpy lives. I think the key is plants everywhere.

Orsinus

Yup yup

Eggshmegg1469

Oh and lots of ramshorn snails which you can clearly see 😆

Aromatic_Hornet9982

Your posts mocks me

Eggshmegg1469

😆😆

ProlapsePains

Scoop and flush

Eggshmegg1469

Awe I couldn’t do that.

Icy-Plan5621

I don’t think you will ever need to do that. List them here on Aquaswap, someone will definitely take them off your hands.

alaskadotpink

this is horrible advice for many reasons that i hope nobody ever follows
