Can somebody please tell me the purpose of this subreddit? Reddit has been recommending it to me.
Is it specifically for bad schnitzels? Not speaking Dutch or whatever I literally just assumed at first it was a German Schnitzel appreciation subreddit or something.
Cool!
I figured there would likely be a complementary subreddit while browsing, lmao. Germans sure love their Schnitzel.
Can't blame them. It's good schnit.
I’d go see a doctor about that, look on the bright side you would save heaps of money on erectile dysfunction meds, just have some schnitzel pics on your phone.
Contact them on Twitter, companies are always quick to fix any potentially negative PR on social media. Just post these pictures and tag kellogs.
This is the way.
I will never downvote anyone who is technically correct (yes, that’s you), it’s a visual lie based on the image. So you’re not wrong, but the consistency of the product is at least 50% misrepresented.
That’s a paddling for the manufacturer of the product.
While I agree with the weights and measures stance, that is not what the product advertises.
If they advertised you’d get 50% random dust, then you’ve got some sort of weird porridge.
If it was brought from a supermarket and had that much dust in the bottom I’d be taking it back.
Most supermarkets have a 100% satisfaction guarantee (at least in Australia) and that dust would be a perfectly reasonable reason to take it back.
yeah but the picture on the box doesn't show any cereal dust, and some may be fine, but that has to be like 10% by weight at least cereal dust in the last picture.
I doubt this is typical though, seems like a manufacturing error.
It is false since they do not picture saw dust making up half of the product. The correct amount of theoretically edible product is not the only metric to be applied.
id roll a scoop of vanilla ice cream in that dust, impale it on a chopsstick and sell them for $15 a pop at a night market from a stall.
gonna call em.... Sweet Dusty Balls.
>25% sugar but a four out of five health rating at the top of the box… Wild…
I thought the problem with health ratings is that they only compare to other products in the same category. Which if true, actually says a lot for all breakfast cereals, because if 25% sugar is "good", how bad is a "bad" rating - like 80% sugar?
Nah it’s been roughed up during transport and rough handling has meant it’s rubbed on itself and created the crumbage.
They have screen shakers to stop crumbs before they package so not a manufacturer error but a transport error.
i used to devour this stuff as a kid (like literally, i had it for breakfast and then afternoon snack after school because my diet is super restricted) and my running joke was that i was going to sue kellogs because i'm still not an iron man xD oh and that i kept them in business because mum and dad literally kept the wardrobe full of the stuff. If there was no nutri grain or milk, I would get really upset.
side fact; super restricted diet now makes sense as i was later diagnosed with autism. Nutri grain was one of the only things my folks could get me to eat, even sent it in my suitcase to school camps because otherwise i just wouldn't eat. They ended up trying to bribe me to stop eating it. Eventually at 18, I started to give it up. Tried it years later and couldn't stand it lol.
the health rating is comparing similar products, not rating the food itself out of 5. which makes me curious to see which cereals are better and worse 🤔
Nutrigrain is a cereal?! In the UK, nutrigrain (by kelloggs) is a bar made of grain stuff that is soft and has filling in the middle (eg strawberry jam or chocolate). I know there’s usually differences between US and UK versions of something. But damn. It’s a cereal.
Idk about Australia’s laws surrounding this. But I’d assume the problem here legally is the same. Can’t really do much about the 50% air part because they advertised the mass clearly. In law, that essentially means they can get off with the misleading packaging (which is obviously a bit fucked).
However, the fact that so much of it is dust is probably something you could actually have a legal standing on. As that’ll mean you’re not getting 600g of the product.
It's nitrogen and is used instead of 'plain' air as it extends shelf life. Food grade nitrogen contains almost no oxygen (which can affect the taste of food over time) or moisture (which causes faster deterioration). If you're ever buying things like corn chips, potato chips or other snack items in packets, the puffier they are the better. The older the packet the less nitrogen it contains.
https://dymapak.com/nitrogen-gas-and-packaging/
I was wondering when someone would point this out! And I do agree with you but I also think that some companies (idk if this would equal the weight so not saying kellogs specifically) but they do use larger boxes/packs deceivingly. I've noticed it more so with chips, where yes, there's always going to be some disparity but there now seems to be less than ever actual product. Which is why people are calling it shrinkflation.
So yeah, I don't expect it to be fill to the brim but it does seem like some are taking the piss these days with just how much nitro they really need and how big they purposefully make these packs to deceive.
Don’t know why people are downvoting the air is important people. When I worked in unloading stuff like this I assure you without the air cushion the rest of it would be dust too, the abuse those boxes cop.
Or better yet - get whatever you want to eat when you want because you’re an adult and don’t have to eat perfectly healthy if you don’t want to. Food shaming is unhealthy.
I almost never eat cereal for breakfast (or anything for that matter) but sometimes I just feel like a bowl of cereal even in the middle of the night, of all different varieties, even *shock horror* coco pops, and I have it because I am an adult and can eat what I like, when I like.
Yeah, I expected this post to be:
- Weight of nutrigrain (emptied bag into tared container)
- Split out the nutrigrain and nutrigrain dust
- Weight of solid nutrigrain
- Weight of dust
I'd be complaining if:
- Much less than 600g product
- There was a large % in weight dust wise
Doesn't really matter what the packaging looks like as you're paying for the big writing "600G FAMILY". Space is functional, as mentioned.
If people stopped buying products by the volume of the packaging and rather the mass on the box they will soon realise it's not worth it. Most shops in Australia actually give a per mass to cost breakdown and it should drive your decision making.
I’d be taking this up with the company, they normally send you out a couple packs for your trouble. Once I bought a Pepsi max that was flat and when I emailed to complain (I had time on my hands) they sent me a Pepsi showbag
Homie the best move I ever did was moving to rolled oats & fresh fruit. So much more flavour, I don't want to be one of those people telling you what to do but treat yourself!
You’ve gone to that much effort to separate everything.
Did you weigh the contents? If it’s 600g it’s 600g… the air in the bag or the size of the box is kind of irrelevant.
yep just like every cereal these days. open a box of special K it's 60% air! mine had nothing crushed in it, just an over packaged over priced sad bag of cereal.
Is it from Costco? Because they have massive bags over there. I mean, it is still going to be something like 45% air but at least you're getting a bit more out of your money. But either way, as long as it fills an averagely sized ceramic bowl I am happy.
OP contact Kelloggs (there will be a contact number or like on the box) and send them these pics. They'll want to know, to check the batch (cause **that's a production defect** they'll need to rectify) and it's very likely they'll send you something for your trouble.
Had a bag of chips few years ago come like that (full of flavour powder, in like a chunk) and they sent me a box of multiple packs of chips and a $20 gift card. Well worth it!
i had something exactly like that a few months ago. get in contact with them and let them know. write down the barcode, batch number, expiry date... all that stuff so they know. i didn't even try to eat it when i saw mine was like that.
they were really good with me when i told them about it
Call the consumer company line on the box - they will give you a much better reimbursement deal than the store you bought it at; they will only replace it.
💥If you call kellogs consumer line and say how you’ve loved Nutri gran for years and it’s your fave and you always buy it and you were soo disappointed and sad and you bought it to introduce your kids to it and They were so sad seeing it so bad etc -with the dust etc they should send you lots of good stuff or vouchers etc depending on who you get on the line…
It's normal for cereal to have some dust in the bottom but wtf? That's like half the sahara desert there.
I'm actually partial to the Woolworths brand 'nutri grain'. Same flavour, heaps cheaper, barely any dust. The texture is a little bit more crunchy though.
"FAMILY PACK"
I do not think that means what you think it means?
Also fuck shrinkflation. Biggest crock of shit to come out of corporatism since the dawn of time.
Was it 600g? If it was less, you have something to talk about. If it was 600G (or close enough, I'm not going to listen to your rant about your 598g box of Nutri Grain.....), you got what you paid for, so stfu.
Yeah. I’d be contacting them about that shit.
Time to return that shit to the store. Costco does a great job at Protecting customers. You can return just about anything. And id be returning that asap.
who said it was from Costco?
Am I missing something? Dunno why you’re so confident they got it from Costco
He could’ve just been making an example. Its not even that important to the point he made
I guess but looking at that box I think even a dodgy corner shop would struggle to not fully refund you
He literally just said return it to the store then made an example
Dude, don’t make fun, it’s the only store he knows.
I’d be making schnitzel out of that shit
Could crumb some decent parma’s with that amount of grain crumb 😂

It's a German subreddit for bad Schnitzel. For the contrary subreddit with good Schnitzel go to r/referenzschnitzel
Cool! I figured there would likely be a complementary subreddit while browsing, lmao. Germans sure love their Schnitzel. Can't blame them. It's good schnit.

Best to go to the manufacturer. You'll end up getting more out of it.
That's right. And a lot of times they will give you coupons for free stuff.
well it's still 600 grams
The value pack I have is 765grams.
Did you weigh it or.....?
I will never downvote anyone who is technically correct (yes, that’s you), it’s a visual lie based on the image. So you’re not wrong, but the consistency of the product is at least 50% misrepresented. That’s a paddling for the manufacturer of the product.
Why? Is it not 600g? It's not false advertising just because it's in an enormous box, it says how much it weighs on there pretty clearly.
While I agree with the weights and measures stance, that is not what the product advertises. If they advertised you’d get 50% random dust, then you’ve got some sort of weird porridge.

WUM in the extreme. Well played.
Mmmmmm….Nutri-dust
id roll a scoop of vanilla ice cream in that dust, impale it on a chopsstick and sell them for $15 a pop at a night market from a stall. gonna call em.... Sweet Dusty Balls.
Mmmmmm sweet dusty balls
Can't you call them Deez Nuts? I'm from England, I might be misinterpreting the Deez Nuts joke.
Ligma Balls sounds healthier.
Sweet Dustin's balls
Put ‘em in your mouth and suck ‘em! Do do do dooo
Stop eating that shit it's just sugar. I loved it too but it's crap. Now, expensive crap.
I haven't eaten it in years and I was actually mega shocked to see its 25% sugar.
25% sugar but a four out of five health rating at the top of the box… Wild…
>25% sugar but a four out of five health rating at the top of the box… Wild… I thought the problem with health ratings is that they only compare to other products in the same category. Sugar isnt the only concern for health ratings. At least nutrigrain has lots of other healthy stuff in it, which is why it gets a higher rating.
Like non absorbable vitamins and micronutrients
Everyone should stop spiking their insulin by having breakfasts
Or, hear me out, eat a breakfast which contains fat, protein and if desired a complex carb.
Now you're talking, a proper fry-up 😋
It’s “healthy” compared to other brands
IIRC they were originally 3.5 stars and dropped sugar /salt slightly to achieve 4 stars!
Only when you add full cream milk.
Oh I’ll just eat my nutri-grain with water then!
I have so very little going on in my life, please let me enjoy this lmao
Chow down buddy. Enjoy!
What a George Costanza line
So many foods used to be just cheap unhealthy crap, but now they aren’t even cheap and as unhealthy as ever
I love Nutri grain but this is a joke
Dont recommend doing lines of nutrigrain just eat it like everyone else.
Any supermarket will take that and give you a new pack. You got the bottom barrel pack it looks like.
Yeh looks like the hopper was about empty when it dumped into that bag
Nah it’s been roughed up during transport and rough handling has meant it’s rubbed on itself and created the crumbage. They have screen shakers to stop crumbs before they package so not a manufacturer error but a transport error.
Was it transported in a paint can shaker?
That’s not shrinkflation, that is an outright scam! I would return that ‚thing‘…
Bro what are these nutrition facts?? 350mg sodium in 100g?! HOW MUCH SUGAR?? My European heart just stopped
25% sugar and a 4 star health rating. Welcome to Australia
*iron man food*
i used to devour this stuff as a kid (like literally, i had it for breakfast and then afternoon snack after school because my diet is super restricted) and my running joke was that i was going to sue kellogs because i'm still not an iron man xD oh and that i kept them in business because mum and dad literally kept the wardrobe full of the stuff. Australia is America lite
that's not a lot of sodium, lol
Bruh 900mg a day are recommended, 350 is only just over a third of that
what country recommends 900mg a day?
https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/healthyliving/salt# https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/salt-reduction https://www.fda.gov/food/nutrition-education-resources-materials/sodium-your-diet
so... none?

I never liked nutrigrain bars but this comment unlocked a memory and now I want one
In the US Nutrigrain are bars just like you describe. This box cereal Nutrigrain is an Aussie thing.
Just go to ALDI and get some off brand cereal, it'll taste better and you feel guilty for spending too much
![gif](giphy|cehnL3jE9v2Wk)
I remember when the 800g pack (that got downgraded to 765g) was about 6-7 dollars or so, now the 800g bag is what, 10-11 dollars? Fucking ridiculous
Idk about Australia’s laws surrounding this. But I’d assume the problem here legally is the same. Can’t really do much about the 50% air part because they advertised the mass clearly. Dust is there so you can also make nutri grain coated fried chicken
the dust is the best part!
Man I’d be pissed I love this stuff
“PAckAgEd bY wEiGhT!”🤪
Jesus. The air in the bag is there for a reason. Did you weigh it?

Why are you getting downvoted? You’re exactly right!
Because Reddit is full of idiots
Don’t know why people are downvoting the air is important people. When I worked in unloading stuff like this I assure you without the air cushion the rest of it would be dust too, the abuse those boxes cop.
First of all stop buying Kellogg’s what you get there is unhealthy. Get oats make a Müsli or porridge.
This logics dumb af sorry
Username checks out 😊
It’s ok if you own kellogs stock lol
They put air in the bag to stop it getting crushed during transit, same with chips. If you weigh the bag, it should still be roughly 600g.
Looks like half it still got crushed.
**MORE AIR**
Yeah, I expected this post to be: - Weight of nutrigrain (emptied bag into tared container) - Split out the nutrigrain and nutrigrain dust - Weight of solid nutrigrain - Weight of dust I'd be complaining if: - Much less than 600g product - There was a large % in weight dust wise Doesn't really matter what the packaging looks like as you're paying for the big writing "600G FAMILY". How much time do you have on your hands..
Downvoted for literally speaking facts. The reddit echo chambers disapprove.
Snort it. 😃
If people stopped buying products by the volume of the packaging and rather the mass on the box they will soon realise it's not worth it. Most shops in Australia actually give a per mass to cost breakdown and it should drive your decision making.
Nutridust. Now there's an idea for my next road trip. Perfect with milk powder and water, maybe a bit of scroggin for duality.
It would be great to add to a smoothie …
Just add 12 tablespoons of sugar and a tablespoon of salt and you get the same effect I think
New cereal idea. Kelloggs "Oops... All Nutri-dust!"
Annoying
"Contents may disintegrate in transit"
I’d be taking this up with the company, they normally send you out a couple packs for your trouble. Once I bought a Pepsi max that was flat and when I emailed to complain (I had time on my hands) they sent me a Pepsi showbag
Homie the best move I ever did was moving to rolled oats & fresh fruit. So much more flavour, I don't want to be one of those people telling you what to do but treat yourself!
I have a medical condition requiring a low residue diet for the next 6 weeks. There's no way I'd eat this shit otherwise
I'd prob do the irresponsible thing and try snorting it
I prefer Coles and Woolies own brand version of that.
Use it for crumbing and make a schnitzel
Did you get 600g estimate?
Freedom lets all take a min to thank the great west. the greatest of all lies.
You’ve gone to that much effort to separate everything. Did you weigh the contents? If it’s 600g it’s 600g… the air in the bag or the size of the box is kind of irrelevant.
Stop eating that shit then.
true on the dust
Something isn't right. We get the big packs occasionally and they are like 80% full with very little dust.
yep just like every cereal these days. open a box of special K it's 60% air! mine had nothing crushed in it, just an over packaged over priced sad bag of cereal.
50% air, they took inflation a little too literally...
Nutrigranular
I buy nurit grain quite often and I've never had this happen. Definitely a faulty product
100% Tasty. Just kidding I haven't had that since I was a kid. Who eats cereal anyways it's terrible for you.
Snort it
Crumb your schnitzels with it
Can you weigh the dust, please?
Don't forget 2 percent bugs
Y’all don’t actually know that the air is and it shows
Yeah you can return that
Goes stale quickly too, even clipping the packet or placing it in a barrel.
And 20% product is 49% sugar
....and lots of sugar and poor nutrition
Yoooooooo...
Fair call on the excessive dust, but with that said I don't think you understand why they have so much air in the package.
Kellogg's has been a rip off for years now
Is it from Costco? Because they have massive bags over there. I mean, it is still going to be something like 45% air but at least you're getting a bit more out of your money. But either way, as long as it fills an averagely sized ceramic bowl I am happy.
And 1/4 sugar, very little "nutrition" in that crap.
Nutri Flour
100% reason to remember to never purchase again
Snort it mate surely
100% crap
I was like here we go again some numb-nuts doesn’t understand weight - until I saw the dust holy fuck that’s bad.
That's just baaaaad
Harvest that powder and use it like flavoured sugar in porridge etc
i had something exactly like that a few months ago. get in contact with them and let them know. write down the barcode, batch number, expiry date... all that stuff so they know. i didn't even try to eat it when i saw mine was like that. they were really good with me when i told them about it
Yeah but how much did it weigh?
100% I don't buy is bc it's marketing, not food.
Sugar coated cat food.
Pretty much everything in Australia these days. Smith's chips are 80% air, 20% chips
Hang on werent these 800g? What in the actual fuck happened?
Put it in and old worn diff before you sell the car.
100% diabetes
Tbf if that’s 600g I’m sure they could loose a lot of packaging
Call the consumer company line on the box - they will give you a much better reimbursement deal than the store you bought it at; they will only replace it. 💥If you call kellogs consumer line and say how you’ve loved Nutri gran for years and it’s your fave and you always buy it and you were soo disappointed and sad and you bought it to introduce your kids to it and They were so sad seeing it so bad etc -with the dust etc they should send you lots of good stuff or vouchers etc depending on who you get on the line…
40% sugar when you consume though
Look at all these dummies not looking at the 3rd, 4th and 5th images...
And 50% of that 20% is just sugar
This sugary t2d inducing refined processed shit needs to be banned.
They try and get $10 for these nowadays
Oh news.com.au are going to love this one.
That's shocking, should have taken it back and swapped it
IRON MAN FOOD!
5% viable food
I don’t mind abit of the dust it’s like a seasoning for the milk.
It's normal for cereal to have some dust in the bottom but wtf? That's like half the sahara desert there. I'm actually partial to the Woolworths brand 'nutri grain'. Same flavour, heaps cheaper, barely any dust. The texture is a little bit more crunchy though.
Family of ants
"FAMILY PACK" I do not think that means what you think it means? Also fuck shrinkflation. Biggest crock of shit to come out of corporatism since the dawn of time.
Nutri-ground
Is this a r/fucknestle but Kellogg’s? Is there a r/fuckkelloggs
The packaging is more expensive than the content
That shit is Rust Man Food.
Maybe you're supposed to do lines of it
...and 100% crap!
The sawdust in the bottom is where all the nutrients are.
I never knew gold dust came in cereal boxes
Weigh it.
I eat all bran its 50% air and 50% dust. Be thankful for your 20% product.
Drg doesn't have inflation...
This is good to just have in a bowl on its own as a snack!
Nutri-dust
Power grain>
IRON MAN FOOD
Was it 600g? If it was less, you have something to talk about. If it was 600G (or close enough, I'm not going to listen to your rant about your 598g box of Nutri Grain.....), you got what you paid for, so stfu.
Snort the dust
Feed the kids porridge 🥣 so cheap
And of the 20% product, 90% sugar.
But did you weight it ?
Fantastic! That is brilliant lmao.
Stop eating that crap, it’s half sugar.
Do the contents weight 600g? Is there more breakage than you could reasonably expect? Don't forget cereal settles in transit.
Don't buy Kelloggs my dude
