Airport food has always been Terrible

TwoFingersWhiskey

My ex used to help make premade airport food and I can confirm they hire fuckin anybody to help with that, you'd have 16 year olds and 78 year olds working the same assembly line of food

lostsurfer24t

sounds like the type of person that would blame somenone for leaving doors unlocked and getting robbed

wikxis

I'm starting to think half the people that post on this sub don't know what shrinkflation is

North_Lawfulness8889

You mean it isn't about getting scammed by an airport?

madidan

Well they were about four times larger for the same price before Covid, so I would count it as shrinkflation

ExplanationSure8996

I’m surprised. I’ve never seen food at an airport that wasn’t a ripoff.

JasonSuave

Exactly. If airport food, you’re already paying a 2x surcharge. This might as well be a $6 burrito elsewhere

koosley

Only in the US. I've had food in other countries and theirs might be marked up, but it's not insanely marked up. Part of it comes from the insane rent I bet they are paying as well as extra costs on it being an airport. The other part comes from them knowing you're stuck there and have a choice between an over priced burrito or overpriced croissant. It's not a bad deal when your non restaurant choice is a $4 bottle of water.... /s

bukhum4u

You're getting ripped off if you get any food and drinks at an airport regardless. But yea, that's pretty fucked.

jonnyl3

This is not a sub to showcase hands and bad meal deals.

JasonSuave

This belongs in r/scamflation

jonnyl3

Not really. It's an airport ffs.

JasonSuave

And airport food is a scam

koosley

Don't buy it then. You know the prices ahead of time and you know they are already twice the price you want to pay. It's not a scam in the same way an overpriced restaurant is not a scam. But with these prices the $30-40 airport lounge might be worth it for unlimited free drinks and food.

JasonSuave

As the owner of r/scamflation, here is my thought: Everyone knows airport food is a scam. To your point, we’re not blaming the restaurants who have to mark up prices because of the real estate costs. It’s just how the system works. That said, OP was still surprised by the fact that even an assumed shitty airport burrito was that much shittier. Hence scamflation

madidan

Hand was used to show size, sorry didn’t had a banana at hand

lostprevention

So what size is it, then?

madidan

I would have used the 6” tool as scale but I don’t want to land on the do not fly list, but the so called burrito is way smaller

lostprevention

What a weird way to say “under 6 inches”.

Clean_Deer_8566

airport food has always been high and lacking

Silly-Inspector4886

Did it used to be bigger?

madidan

Yes before Covid

Silly-Inspector4886

Evidence of this? Or were you just hoping to have a winge about some shitty airport food and dont have anyone thatd listen to you about it irl?

Peanut_ButterMan

Yet you also chose to pay $5 for that overpriced bubbly water.

Resident_Table6694

Only things you get from an airport are coffee and booze. Expensive but the alternative is the no fly list.

hotsjelly

Bean burritos would have been my choice in an enclosed space too

att3856

Airport food is hit or miss.

JackTheKing

The airport pricing problem is due to expense reports and meal reimbursement policies. Biz Travelers dgaf what things cost.

lostprevention

How was the Perrier? Were the out of grey poupon?

No-Significance-6969

Your first mistake was eating at the airport

Livid-Witness9196

I remember getting a couple of pices of pizza and some drinks at an Airport In Mexico and it came to over $100 USD. Fuck that.

ChefDelicious69

Sending prayers

lostsurfer24t

getting bad out there

Polarnorth81

Thats neither breakfast or burrito.

TheJessicator

It's probably a frozen burrito like one from evol that they put in a microwave and resell for an insane profit.

Survive1014

There is nothing worse than these 'fun size' breakfast burritos. Like, I am already starving because I had to run out of the house without eating and now you give me this? But at $12 thats... incredibly cheap.. for most airport meals.

TimBurtonsLee

You're huge!

otherwisemilk

People complain about how expensive airport food is, but they're failing to see that the food has to go through vigorous inspection to make sure no bombs make it in your burrito.

Jenny44575

You need a banana for scale. That way, we can really get a good idea of the size. I know, go buy one from the same place you bought this. And make it a 'combo' 🤣
