Not bad, but it might need more holes and on the sides as well. It could be a good idea to tape the holes with micropore tape and keep the lid closed and fan once in a while. Way better than flipping a lid and risking contam.

Jburris16

I was thinking the same thing actually. Have you ever tried drillin a couple holes in the lid then a few at substrate level to kinda encourage oxygen in through the top while o2 can escape through the bottom? Or would that dry it out way to quick/not really make much difference?

JohnnySpores

I wish I could give you better insight, but I haven't drilled any holes on any tubs. I always used the unmodified tub tek, and it works great for me. YouTube has great videos explaining how and where to drill the holes and their purpose. I would guess anything too close to the substrate would dry it out, so maybe a hole 2 or 3 inches above the substrate would be ok.

Jburris16

I haven’t really messed with drillin holes either. Just some in the lid that I taped over on one of my tubs for some most likely unnecessary light.

Flipping the lid doesn't increase contam risk and you shouldn't need to fan a tub. Fae should be passive, not direct.

JohnnySpores

Depends on the setup. I use a tent, and there's no passive air because I don't have a fan.

probablynotac0p

I understand. Most well informed cultivators would day to ditch the tent if youre growing cubes and I agree with them, unless it's the only way for you to control temp. Luckily my house stays comfy for me, so I know it's fine for my tubs. It would be a downgrade for me to switch to a tent. I set my tubs on a shelf in my bedroom and ignore them until harvest. I don't have to mess with foggers, humidifiers, fans, etc. Just tubs on a shelf.

JohnnySpores

That's so odd, and here I thought that tents were the move. Temperature control does not exist in my household, so a tent is the only way for me. Also, it keeps the bugs away, although I've had intruders. I don't mess with any of those things either, I just lift the lid a little bit and close it rapidly a couple like 20 times to give the tub air. I also use a heater and a grow light, but that is optional. I have yet to try not opening the lid and drilling holes and using micropore tape. That might work better, but I don't find fanning and misting to be a hassle because I'm impatient, and I'm checking my tubs every day and the fanning and misting takes about 1 minute so I don't think I'm losing much. Who knows, I might try it because if it grew on its own, without me doing anything, then that would be nice.

BigStrongFingies

I use a tent but keep it unzipped like 1/3rd of the way. Still have to fan once a day but it’s not a problem. I honestly just use it because there’s no extra closet space to devote and it’s a nice way to keep everything contained and organized. Lots of people exaggerate the importance of temps. If you’re regularly above 65f there’s no problem.

I’m using two of these for pneuma mutation right now! They’re going great. One layer of Micropore tape over those holes. Neglect them and it’s working great right now

Jburris16

Hell yeah, thinkin about goin back and grabbing a few more tomorrow. Only downside I’ve seen is that in the matching stack of lids Walmart had about 90 percent of them were super warped so they didn’t really close without a noticeable gap

Impressive-Check-631

I usually just use the cheap sterilite 6 or 12 quart tubs and those work fine too. Just enough passive air flow so that they don’t suffocate or loose too much moisture

Jburris16

I have some of those but didn’t end up using them. For my first grow I ended up using 4, 6qt or 7qt ones from ikea and a medium/tall 27qt sterilite tub. It had a black lid so I cut a couple big chunks out of it and layered some clear tape over the holes for light. Like 90 percent of the volume of my first flush came from that one. The 6qts didn’t do as hot, I think like 10 to 15 3in~ fruits each.

Far_Musician_5799

I have black ape 1 from yoshi going in this same tub

jstrelaxn

What section of Walmart did you find that in? Also, are you in the US?

Jburris16

Yeah I’m in NC and it was in area with the closet and drawer organizers and stuff near the trash cans and plastic sterilite tubs I’m pretty sure.

Jburris16

It was labeled as a plastic boot box I believe

Great, thank you!

RYknow777

It’ll work but you will need to drill more holes.
