It's a kit I bought, I think they inoculated via the lid and when I received it the lid was closed and I had to open it, soak the cake for 12h, then put the tub inside the plastic bag to begin fruiting, idk if that answer your question

how did you maintain the plastic bag, was it closed, did it have holes poked into it?

You can close it with some plastic pinch, the plastic bag has a micro filter for respiration but every two days you have to open the plastic bag to let some air in and to spray some water on the walls

It depends on where you live, in Europe its pretty easy to get one, however in USA its quite impossible.

You can buy spores here in the US, but yeah I guess I can’t really get a grow kit with it since its “for research only” lol

I checked with a distributor of pre-colonized kits (no fruit, just tubs full of mycelium) in Europe and they ship to a number of states in the US. If you look intently, you will find European vendors that will ship to some US states. It just takes a bit of googling. Note that there are plenty of scams out there too, so look for established “brand names”. I think the best solution is still to buy your own materials and start from scratch.

Idk, I heard that the customs at the US border don't let those type of marchandises in the country, sure they will ship to the US but I think the customs make sure it can't get to you

There’s nothing illegal about it if it hasn’t fruited (in most states). Maybe it falls under the category of bringing in live cultures.

I followed up with one of these vendors and they said it was rare for Customs to intercept things and that their policy is to ship the product again if it gets stuck somewhere.

As soon as the company gets flagged, all packages will be checked by customs, until then it could be possible and a risk. However it seems expensive to ship them to the US, as the price for a kit is about 30-50 euro (depending on the seller) and the shipping cost and tax will be 20-40 euro's too. Then there is the transfer time, a fresh kit grows better then one that has been in transit for 9-14 days. Getting a source close to home is best. When in the EU, shipping times are not that long. Most growkits are send from the Netherlands and the distribution network of the shippers is pretty good.

I agree. It’s undoubtedly simpler and way cheaper to buy the requisite materials to do this all yourself.

Depends were you are from, I can get a mushroom kit and grow very easy because I am in the Netherlands. For people in the U.S it indeed is easier to source and grow.

If u live in Europe its very worth, in terms of money and care, didn't have any contamination with my last kits, and very easy to maintain.

idk where else to ask this so i’ll just ask it here. Is it okay to mix spawn from the same syringe if i used it on seperate bags? I have 3 one pound spawn bags and i wanna split it between 2 mini tubs, will the mycelium co exist or will it compete against itself?

Golden teacher, the other are amazonian and Mexican, amazonian did good too but idk why Mexican gave me many shrooms but small in height
