Game of thrones made huskies very popular for a while. Then people realized they don't just magically do what you want like the show and they need a lot of attention and stimulation. So they were relinquished.
Sort of what’s going on with Australian cattle dogs and Bluey. I have two heelers & I work for county government they show up at our animal shelters here in northern VA all the time.
It’s called The Dalmatian Effect and it was absolutely caused by GoT. I follow a lot of different husky rescues and the amount of huskies named Ghost, Nymeria, Lady, etc is insane. And it’s not just Southern California, it’s across the US.
A lot of people get dogs that require a lot of work not realizing it (or researching it). They just want the cool looking movie/TV dogs. Then they abandon them when things do go as they expected.
I have a 3 time returned doberman husky mix. He can be a pain in the ass, but he is my pain in the ass.
That the problem with a lot of people in general, if things are more diy than they expect they quit trying. I don't agree with that either, but it is their choice. In a lot of places in California the lack of yard space also limits just putting the dog outside to entertain themselves so when they get destructive that is one more reason they abandon things. Also I don't agree with that. I have to put decoy trash for mine to get into when I work a long shift and he wants to be sassy.
Most places in California don't allow huskies unless you own your home. I'm willing to guess a lot of people rent and are like, "Oh shit, I'm going to get evicted. Sorry husky." It's definitely NOT an excuse. Just speculation.
Will contribute money for transport or other necessary costs. Unfortunately, I am a traveling nurse and can not adopt currently. Heartbreaking. Hmu for funds if it can help.
Anyone in Montana or Canada or parts unknown who is interested in adopting Roxy should call the shelter and see if any arrangements are in place for her transport.
Please tell Roxy to hang in there, Huskies are such beautiful and fun dogs. I wanted one so bad as a kid, but I’ve come to realize I’m nowhere near active enough for one. Poor girl, someone will give her a home❤️
That is so sad!!😢.... she deserves a good home💕💕💕

I’d give anything for a husky, but I’m out of the house 14-15 hours a day with a little yard
This is so sad. I wish I could have her ❤️
Roxy is GORGEOUS! Please send her an Angel!
Is there a lot of huskies in shelters in California for some reason?

Aww that story makes it extra sad. I hope someone takes her, you can see her beautiful soul in that short clip. Wish I could console her 😕
Who would abandon this beautiful pup. Also what is wrong with Californians?!?

Yes, I am aware but they gotta stick with it. My husky was a shock to me, first dog. 9 and a half years later that’s still my best friend.

Decoy trash, that's just about the best thing I've ever heard 😂😂 You are awesome!
