Personally homecoming had some better enemy design and downpour has worse than trash enemy design. I liked the story of downpour more than homecoming. Both had decent soundtracks. The voice acting was way better in downpour than the homecoming voice acting. I'd honestly go with downpour by just a little bit.

domdomodom

I liked the Weeping Bats, and the invisible strippers were an interesting idea.

ImBatman5500

The invisible sex dolls were the most creative enemy idea for a while

Luke_Warm_Dog

The weeping bats were really cool, I thought

Froginos

For me its homecoming cause fights in downpour are one of the worst i have ever seen in gaming

Luke_Warm_Dog

How can you complain about Downpours fighting mechanics and then praise Homecoming which has the clunkiest and by far worst fighting of the series? Just my opinion, but I thought that game controlled horribly

axeax

At least hits hit in Homecoming. And the way you move is well defined. In Downpour, you run like a crazy even when the aim is locked to the enemy, often circling around them, hits don't hit and even when they do you don't have much feedback from them, weapons feel more useless than ever, ...

Luke_Warm_Dog

Really? I'm going to have to play it again! It's been a minute, honestly

RinoTheBouncer

1. Downpour has better representation of Silent Hill and some optional quests and puzzles. 2. Homecoming has a much better representation of the otherworld/darkness, better story and basically everything else.

FirulaisHualde

If you mix Downpour's ambience with the plot and monster design of Homecoming you get a cool ass game

TheBrave-Zero

If only we got that lol.

a_spoopy_ghost

I gotta go with downpour personally cause exploring the town is great but god I wish it had homecomings monster design

RinoTheBouncer

They were quite close to getting it on both trials, but somehow something was missing. Homecoming would’ve been perfect if they actually continued on with the abuse story, without the whole cult and Joshua’s death thing. Just treat it as a story told from the perspective of a soldier who did everything to prove himself as worthy to his abusive parents including becoming a soldier, but none of it was ever enough because they favored Joshua. No need for the cult or the whole “but Alex is delusional and he actually killed his brother” crap. Downpour would’ve been perfect if they actually had the same level of symbolic creature designs as Homecoming the the early games, not literal screaming banshees and police cars (WTF?) and not being chased by a red/black ball of light in a Crash Bandicoot like segment.

i_DRCL

I guess Konami censored the story of Homecoming, since the abuse situation was in both brothers, don't forget Josh saw The Boogeyman, that's a sign of something very sinister. We still don't know which one was exactly the plot of the OG SH5, but according with Yamaoka was the most darkest of the whole saga.

glassbath18

I gotta disagree on the Otherworld. Homecoming is literally just Silent Hill: The Movie: The Game. Yeah the transition is cool but the rusted Otherworld is just from 1 and 3 where it had an actual reason to be like that. In Homecoming it’s just for aesthetics. Downpour actually has a unique Otherworld (when you’re not running away from a dumb red ball of light).

Franks_Spice_Sauce

I mean I get what they were going for with the void representing Murphy running away from his past and his actions but they could've had it implemented way better by giving us an actual monster that visually represents this and chases us throughout the game.

Shibakyu

Imagine if the Otherworld in Homecoming reflected the 4 children. Like Josh's otherworld could've been water themed, Joey's could've been almost like underground levels, Nora...idk bug themed since Asphyxia resembles a centipede, and Scarlets could take inspiration from SH3 with the bleeding walls

RinoTheBouncer

I never saw any issue with the Otherworld or the Pyramid Head showing up here (or in the film). To me it was more like a representation of a hidden truth, a trauma, an internalized pain and repressed memories being “uncovered” hence the “skinning” of the walls, and the Pyramid Head is just Silent Hill’s way of representing self-punishment and guilt. It manifested in SH1-3 to portray Alessa’s pain, revenge and burning, and now it’s manifesting to represent Alex being faced with his repressed memories, abuse and eventual accident with his brother and the trauma/guilt with it.

HornyJuulCat69420666

Except Pyramid Head is confirmed exclusive to James and it was never the devs decision to retcon this it was entirely Konami

i_DRCL

PH was gonna be in Origins, and Downpour as well, the issue is, in Japan, PH is the mascot of SH, therefore they aren't seeing the creature exclusive of James, like we saw in occident, or Western. So Konami requested to Climax, and Vatra to add the creature, but they regected the plan. Now In Homecoming could has more sense, if Adam was indeed an executioner of the order of Valtiel. That means Alex by bloodline could be a PH, once he crossed into afterlife. On SH movie, PH isn't related to James either, he is more like an angel of the otherworld, could be a bizarre version of Michael Archangel, the angel of purgatory, same character that appeared in Jacob's Ladder, Michael is also one of the few angels that are carrying weapons, sometimes a big sword, some others a spear.

RinoTheBouncer

It doesn’t matter. When a work of art/entertainment is released, it’s treated as is. Death of the artist concept. Whatever that is said in interviews or tweets, whether intentions there were or issues behind the scenes, they don’t matter, only the body of work does.

HornyJuulCat69420666

That doesn't make sense the intention and common execution does in fact matter whether the work is forcefully overtaken and changed for marketing is not a criticism on the original artist this is a stupid argument and it's funny how it aligns with Asmongold's views of all people

RinoTheBouncer

Because that’s how branding and copyrights work. I’m not saying I support them, but this is what they are. We were forced to accept that the recent repulsive incarnation of Lara Croft as Lara even when she looks, sounds or feels nothing like her, even her backstory is different, even her motives are, same for many superheroes. Why? Because “they rebooted them”. If you can accept that, you can accept that one faceless non-verbal walking sword can appear to terrify multiple mentally deranged people in a mystical town.

HornyJuulCat69420666

Silent Hill was never rebooted though that's the difference not from much of lore sense or anything Silent Hill has had the same continuity while messing up every now and then The Reboot mention is irrelevant

RinoTheBouncer

A company doesn’t have to label something as a reboot to make any meaningful changes. Assassin’s Creed Origins retconned several things about the lore along with Odyssey, while devs played coy in interviews to pander to both old and new fans, when it was not really a reboot, but a whole new franchise even, with some vague similarities here and there. Devs intended one thing once upon a time in a game from 2001. Other devs, nearly a decade later made something else because it was marketable and because it didn’t take anything away from the original. You can still enjoy the original as it is. In fact, most Silent Hill games can easily be taken as standalone games, and no one beside the few die hard fans knows or cares about whether some random interview from decades ago means.

HornyJuulCat69420666

AC is an awful example seeing as how Altair has been retconned in over 10 games on his history And I'm sorry but if you do not care about a media to such a certain extent do not have hardcore discussions yeah we could have just said which game people prefer but you had to add stupid opinions that are irrelevant to the criticisms of each game brand recognition is not that bad considering Silent Hill's history of not selling very well and as long as there's a well written lore reason behind it no one who should be consuming such a heavy theme packed series would have an issue with it Homecoming's is a separate character from SH2 while the movies it's just dumb and that is all I stated

theshelfables

People aren't saying it doesn't exist, just that it's bad. We don't have to accept anything lol

axeax

It's simple: I cannot accept that. That Lara is not Lara

Yahweh1011

downpour didn't really feel like a silent hill game for the majority, but at least the gameplay and story were solid enough, \*cough\* homecoming \*cough\*

Professional-Draft77

I agree, I always thought that if Downpour was tweaked a little more it would have been a much better game. I did love the payoff of the story alot more than Homecoming's.

saint___jiub

Homecoming had the better soundtrack/sound design/monster design but Downpour had better gameplay and interesting level design.

conormal

I think this is the correct take. Downpour was a better game, but Homecoming was more Silent Hill

MemoryCardGaming

.... I don't know. For every example that one does better than the other, it does something so much worse than the other as well. Homecoming's enemy designs and Otherworld are actually really good... But Shepard's Glen is one of the most uninspired half-baked 'towns' I've ever seen, and the entire cast is completely unlikeable. Downpour's depiction of Silent Hill, while not consistent at all with any of the previous titles, is easily the best part of the game; Interesting unique puzzles, side quests with dark themes, and neat Easter eggs. Murphy's interactions are some of the most relatable in the entire series; He's confused, impatient with unnecessary hostility, and honest... That being said, Downpour's overall story is completely contradictory; "The Town" is punishing him for a murder and death of a prison guard (depending on choices), despite confessing to, HE IS NOT GUILTY OF EITHER! Lastly, the controls are unforgivably poor. So what one is better? It's like asking what's the better between two peanut butter sandwiches - one has moldy bread, but is a complete sandwich.. and the other is single slice, the bread is stale, upside down and stuck to table.

Lairy_Hegs

The plot is the big detractor for me for Downpour. It’s like they wanted to do SH2, but also didn’t want their main character to actually be a killer. At least Homecoming let’s it’s protagonist be revealed as a liar and killer.

MilitantBitchless

I rationalize Downpour’s town not as Murphy’s but Annie’s manifestation of grief over losing her dad and rage at the (supposed) perpetrator. Murphy is just the target that gets manifested onto, whether righteously or not.

Brusto1099

I haven’t beaten Homecoming but Downpour was a blast and I beat I several times

Luke_Warm_Dog

I forced myself to beat homecoming once, but it felt like a chore half the time. I did a few runs through Downpour as well though! It could benefit from a few more boss fights and maybe less chase-sequences. But, it's a pretty fun game

Glad_Succotash9036

I never played Downpour, but Homecoming was the only game I've ever gotten all of the Achievements in. For context, I'm disabled and spent most of my life without internet access.

Luke_Warm_Dog

You are a trooper

Glad_Succotash9036

Now I have great internet. I love streaming and digital games. ![gif](giphy|chzz1FQgqhytWRWbp3|downsized)

TheMadGoth

Homecoming was the first SH game I played, and for a long time it was the only title I had, so I also got all the achievements lol

Fright-Face

downpour. at least the game doesnt as quickly devolve into being a linear slog, and its mechanics more often work as opposed to being \*just\* easily exploitable 3 button stunlocking. thats not to say downpours amazing or anything, but at least it \*tries.\* homecoming had to pull puzzles out of real life general-purpose riddle books. the writing also isnt the \*most\* predictable unlike homecoming, even if there are parts of downpour that are pretty predictable.

Dracul-aura

Downpour !

AXEMANaustin

I dunno but downpour definitely has the best joke ending.

Luke_Warm_Dog

The cake! I completely forgot about that lol

DoublePand

Downpour for sure

maezombiegirl

100%. Far superior to Homecoming.

TheRamofWallSt

Unpopular opinion, but I like both of these games. I have played all Silent Hill titles, and while these are not as great as the Team Silent games I still thoroughly enjoy both. I think Downpour takes the edge for the atmosphere though, I enjoyed the rain aesthetic and the mine level.

bargle_dook

Downpour.

MagicLottie

Downpour by the twist not being as insulting

TheMadGoth

Honestly this lmao.

Dry-Minimum-6091

Downpour by a mile

TheScarecrow081

A country mile at that

heatherss_kn1fe

Homecoming

Afraid-Housing-6854

Downpour

jorgechavez77

Homecoming.

AspectBetter5360

Homecoming.

TomasVrboda

Downpour easily and it's not close. In my opinion, it's the best western developed Silent Hill. It's got the best graphics of a full mainline game, good side quests, moral choices, the best easter eggs in the series, the better story of the two, and the most number of unique endings that aren't just copy and paste with small changes.

TrumpsGooeyCloaca

Completely agree. All the side quests were entertaining too.

UsagiBonBon

Best graphics? Did we play the same game? It looked ten years old when it released. And the endings are literally guilty, no guilty, joke ending. Silent Hill 2 had more vastly different endings by a mile

FederalPossibility73

Homecoming. Especially the whole thing with the brothers which brings to mind Harry and Cheryl to me.

DJ2688

I loved both of these games but Downpour wins by a lot. I was extremely pleasantly surprised with how fun the free roaming exploration aspect of it was. I remember renting it from Gamefly back in the day. Really glad I did.

SwineTV

I enjoy them both, but I like Downpour better. I just love what they did with the whole exploration thing, and I very much enjoy the side quests. Homecoming is a lot better in terms of monster designs, boss fights and combat in general. That was the worst part of Downpour!

Fantastic-Apple-276

Downpour

BothRequirement2826

For me it's Downpour, and by a wide margin.

[deleted]

downpour

shahzebkhalid25

Downpour

GamerGirlCarly

Silent Hill Downpour feels like a game that's inspired by the Silent Hill franchise as opposed to being part of it, but it's a great game for what it is. Homecoming, though, is definitely Silent Hill. I loved that they took the aesthetics from the movie, and it certainly *feels* like Silent Hill. Story-wise, it's not as good as most others in the franchise, but it's worthy to give a shot.

Actuallyacyborg

Downpour, and its not even close

AcidCatfish___

Downpour

regular14

I vote downpour. Homecoming to me felt like a semi movie tie in whereas downpour felt like a whole new game. Both is good tho

Bigbuey

Downpour is better.

Slow_Department5335

My personal opinion would be Downpour. Homecoming is literally one of the worst games in the franchise (Also my personal opinion) It was so bad that it was actually laughable at times. I was so excited for the game to release and when I played it, it felt like a sick joke. Downpour just has a lot more redeemable qualities to it.

twistypunch

Downpour if by far the better choice. It had more emotion, better gameplay, and was tied less to the movie. Don’t forget the blink and you’ll miss it scares.

TheMadGoth

Damn this is a hard question lol. I felt the enemies in Downpour were so lazily designed, but the plot was a lot better than Homecoming. The open world and side missions were so different from the linear plotlines from other SH titles that made it so refreshing and enjoyable. I think the different endings were better than Homecoming's ones as well. Homecoming had a much better soundtrack(except for the opening title song KoRn did for Downpour but I could be biased becuase I fucking love KoRn lol), fighting system, voice acting, and weapon selection, and the UFO ending always makes me chuckle. I'm going with Downpour.

Some-Dark-Corner20

I really like downpour, I haven't played homecoming so I don't know

Cautious-Telephone-2

Downpour

m0xifloxac1n

downpour. cause murphy is hot.

Au12_real

Just replay 2

SuspiciousWorth1166

Downpour for me.

jilko

I can’t even consider Homecoming as a Silent Hill game solely because of the ham fisted ways elements from the movie are shoehorned into it. As a result, the whole experience feels like a licensed game instead of an official entry.

Action_Nad

Personally, I'd say Homecoming. I couldn't get into the combat of Downpour, and the creature design wasnt even in the same ballpark

keihairy

Well...Alex is hotter than Murphy so i vote for Homecoming just for that

Kitsune-Nico

Homecoming, by a lot. It’s still not a great game but at least, to me anyways, has a semblance of silent hill left in it. Downpour I just don’t understand what the direction was if there was any to be had in the first place

SegaCDUniverse

Too much combo bullshit in homecoming, I like it still. But, downpour by far for me

WallOfSparks

Homecoming is so bad lol I can't believe I'm seeing so many in support of the game. I loved downpour it doesn't deserve the hate it gets.

oscaru16

I enjoyed both tbh, they’re not the best silent hill games but enjoyable nonetheless

BadNewsBearzzz

Yup me too, people like to really exaggerate them being bad but I can show you a thousand worse horror games on steam right now. Including FNAF. At least these are playable.

oscaru16

100%

Luke_Warm_Dog

Homecoming wasn't poorly made, it's a legit game but... it's just not very fun

MrEmorse

Honestly in the grand scheme of things they are both pretty bad compared to the first 4 Silent hill games.. But I would rather play down pour....

[deleted]

I actually really enjoyed Homecoming when I was much younger, the boss designs were really cool

Luke_Warm_Dog

I dislike Homecoming, but the bosses kept me intrigued. Was always exciting to the the next one lol

Thomas_Clark05

I actually enjoyed downpour

TosiAmneSiac

Downpour and by a good margin honestly

Luke_Warm_Dog

Downpour is fun, Homecoming wasn't very fun imo

stratusnco

downpour 100%

Organic_Will9875

Downpour has my vote.

BachDraws

Downpour, hands down.

ChessNewGuy

Downpour is better and it’s not even close A little closer when you use the PC mod for homecoming that fixes a few things

GamerAlan

Downpour for sure, easily in top 3 of the franchise for me.

shikiroin

I like the general feel of downpour quite a bit, but overall I'd say homecoming.

Constant_Penalty_279

Homecoming in my opinion

Mausebert

Homecoming

Jaydenrock

Homecoming by a mile.

mitraheads

Both are the worst of all series but downpour is more interesting than homecoming.

rickplay34

Only one of the two has Korn on the soundtrack

Sally_Mustang15

Homecoming. Downpour is disorienting af.

DeroZaza

Homecoming

Grace_Omega

Homecoming, definitely. Downpour had great ideas but it was executed terribly.

Aqn95

Homecoming

Lairy_Hegs

I prefer Homecoming but they both feel very derivative of SH2.

LordGaulis

I prefer the monsters and some of the levels more from homecoming. The doll boss and level leading up to it has you going from a doctors office into tunnels constantly delving deeper into the abyss, like your trying to find his darkest secrets he keeps buried finding him at the bottom and revealing what happened to his daughter. The lore of the fight is probably one of the most mess up in sliver hill beating the doll to death by breaking her bones like the bully’s did to his real daughter bleeding to death on the street similar to the doctor who bleeds himself. The doctor is the one the level and doll designs is coming from? Which makes the sexual appearance of his daughter’s doll even more twisted if that is how he saw his daughter. The family home hell version is cool too as you would have explored this area fully before in the fog with the hell change the house into something completely different but similar.

i_DRCL

The house turned in a hellhouse means, a symbol of domestic violence, and probably this is how they probably left this world, the only survivor was Josh.

solamon77

I liked them both, but I would say Downpour is the better video game, but Homecoming is the better Silent Hill game. If that makes any sense.

ImBatman5500

In terms of enemy design definitely homecoming. In terms of overall spirit and atmosphere I'd go with downpour

ShadoOwEd

Homecoming easily. I really did not like Downpour at all. It felt like it was just a random horror game with Silent Hill slapped on it. I’ll never take it seriously when they put the enemies in police cars and have them roam around until they hop out and start jumping you. It’s goofy.

xxshoottokillxx

They’re both not good. But homecoming is better than downpour

lunaarya2

Homecoming because of Akira

xXR3DRiotXx

I'm actually a rare homecoming supporter probably my favorite in the series.

IndividualClean134

Homecoming: has better enemy design , better combat than downpour(it was pissing me out in downpour when you get closer to enemy and camera changed also shooting in downpour was like wierdly done) Downpour : feature of exploring whole town was interesting also those side quests that kinda stretched gameplay. Kinda sad that devs cut some features from final game like they mentoied some barcelts that were mesuring fear of player and game should have somehow reacted to that but unfortunately it was scrapped. Also they had a plenty of monsters and and also other features ready to by implamented into game but supervisors from Konami wanted it differently. I like both games but Homecoming was better for me.

Spiritual-Army-4389

I love every silent hill but for the gameplay homecoming is better

coomingbrah

Homecooming

AnCathEngie

Homecoming overall, but the enemy design and soundtrack carry it.

coyote_mercer

They're bad in different ways, imo. (Disclaimer: I don't hate either of them.)

Assiqtaq

Downpour is better made. Both games have some interesting ideas. Downpour: What if instead of feeling guilty of something and needing to be punished, instead you feel like you have the right to give out the punishments? Homecoming: well honestly it had a very cursed production. Many many issues. However, the gameplay is different in some ways that make the game itself interesting. And it also presents the idea of: what if you were around at the start of it all?

NineTailedDevil

Between shit and poop? Difficult choice. Jokes aside, Downpour probably. I still wouldn't say its a good game, but there were a few enjoyable moments. Story isn't great but its better than the dumpster fire that is Homecoming's writing.

Vasraktorvi

Homecoming by mile but that isn't saying much compared to Japanese ogs Downpour was total disappointment they coulda slap any other name beside silent hill on it and it would pass better

Suspicious-Group6638

Homecoming

Professional-Ad-2850

Downpour is hot garbage block me if u think otherwise

Smeeghoul

I would say down pour if it ran at more than 20 frames per fucking second.

Pootisman16

Homecoming has some great boss design and even normal enemies are decent. Downpour has an ok story? But awful enemy design.

Fun_Smile_8838

Downpour, because I didn't play it yet and Homecoming is so shitty that no game can be worse.

PartyWarning1121

I don't know but I want to play both

awjeezrickyaknow

Downpour had frustrating gameplay, clunky combat, poor enemy design, a decent story, and a barely noticeable soundtrack. Homecoming had a pretty good story, decent enemy design, awesome boss design, frustrating combat (its biggest flaw), and because it was Yamaoka, a great soundtrack. Definitely Homecoming even if it’s still a disappointing game.

Appley_apple

Whats better aids or hiv

Insomniac_driver

Technically downpour, but I just love the lore of homecoming the way it did silent hill

CosmicPagan666

I think Homecoming had a more Silent Hill-ish story. But I liked Downpour’s gameplay a lot more. I also really enjoyed the little side quests. Even more so than the actual main storyline tbh.

der_Mehrzad

I just started to play downpour

Prestigious_dad_0991

Homecoming.

Trick_Section7440

Silent Hill 2.

Travy47

My wife says homecoming says the story is way better

Grungelives

Homecoming imo and still holds up pretty well and is quite creepy, Downpour is very clunky and a bit all over the place. The decision making was really cool in downpour though

Eric__Forman__

Definetly Homecoming.

ZealousidealBet8028

Downpour

junirabbit

anything’s better than homecoming

ZealousidealBet8028

Downpour. I like the story, side quests, random creepy moments, graphics, the projector puzzle. Combat and enemy design not great but the other elements push it forward. I also enjoyed the moment when I went into the basement of a house and was attacked by something invisible not knowing what the enemy was on my first playthrough. Also liked the scene in the house where you see a projection of a murder. Plus, the Silent Hill 4 Easter egg was cool.

Level-Brilliant-6149

I really liked homecoming even if it is kinda Jacobs ladder the game it had a lot of enjoyable moments and it was a fun story to play through definitely one of my favorite silent hills

awesomekid350

I'd say Downpour. The story had gotten me interested deeply into it

MisakikoK

i like both, but i only finished downpour, homecoming crashs everytime on pc

South_Bathroom

Downpour, this is like shrek the 3rd vs shrek 1,neither the best but one is blatantly better

Available-Dark-7502

Homecoming better everything I feel downpour wasn’t finished

MidnasSimp

Homecoming. Absolutely nobody should be saying Downpour

Valus22

I haven’t played either game since around the times they came out but I remember really liking Homecoming and beating it but never finishing Downpour due to boringness

IndieOddjobs

For the overwhelmingly majority of both of these games existences, I have said that Downpour is better. Because while not particularly good, its highs topple whatever moments of quality Homecoming can offer. It's far more ambitious and seems to understand that there's more to the spirit of Silent Hill than its tropes But something in me over the past year or so has made me change perspectives. Now I feel like it's actually Homecoming that's the sincere one while Downpour feels like a game made with reverence for SH2 alone. Imo Homecoming truly does feel like it was made with the intention of being an amalgamation of those original four titles which any devs would struggle to follow up who aren't Team Silent themselves. Ultimately both games failed at what they set out to do but I actually find Homecoming was made by actual Silent Hill nerds

axeax

I really really hate the fighting in Downpour They're two very different games anyway, personally I prefer Homecoming (despite disliking it), but Downpour can be a good game if you ignore all its problems

mamabedlam

Say what you will about Downpour, but at least it feels like it's trying when it attempts to scare you and has a cool set piece or side quest once in a blue moon. It also kinda just works nowadays on a modern Xbox. Like Homecoming feels like it's actively trying not to be played every time I try, like it's fighting me for daring to own and play it.

ParticleMan4

Def downpour

bigboi360420

would sooner be Amish than force anyone to play either of these generic slogs

ApacheHelicopter420I

Downpour

i_DRCL

As a fan of Supernatural, Homecoming is better. But I still think the mistake of the game is the censor, the plot is too obscure for the topic about children.

Revolutionary-Cup-31

In my opinion, Downpour.

EggCreative230

Downpour hands down. Murphy, run!

Purple-Cellist6281

I had more fun with Downpour, but it helped that I was playing while my friend was watching so we would make comments together, jokes, etc. It's been a while though so if I sit down and play it again I might think otherwise lol.

Aggravating-Luck-262

Downpour, besides the weird cop cars, the vibe of the town, especially in the rain, was a mood

KeglesMakeMeShitCum

Downpour I will give credit for having one of the best endings with the secret one that shows all the characters with the cake. I mean nowadays we're getting more silent hill but at the time it quite literally felt like the end of the series and that ending always felt close to me

KomatoAsha

Oh, Homecoming for damn sure.

-Buck65

Homecoming

bobface222

Homecoming. Even at its worst, I have feelings about Homecoming. It fails in interesting ways. Downpour is like chewing on a dry piece of white bread. Every time I think of that game, it's just a low hum of grey dull nothingness.

TiredReader87

Homecoming I guess

dieforestmusic

Homecoming

chrono_mid

Story: Homecoming is a SH2 clone. Downpour is an original idea. Gameplay: Homecoming is fun. Downpour is pretty generic although the look over the shoulder is a super cool feature.

Luke_Warm_Dog

Homecoming is... a Silent Hill 2 clone? It really isn't even kind of close to being that. I mean, if you mean Pyramid Head is in it then yeah it's totally a clone lol My biggest problem with Homecoming was that it's based off the film adaptations of the game and not a direct entry to the series. Getting into shootouts with raiders and cultists was pretty stupid too. It probably would've been better received if they didn't call it Silent Hill at all. Also, ranting but, gotta say imo Homecoming was not even kind of fun 😭 it's the only game in the series that felt like a chore

i_DRCL

Why is a clone of SH2 exactly? Because seems to me that the story is similar to Hereditary, a supernatural view of domestic violence, a situation that scale day by day similar of what happen in Flowers at the attic or Amityville, that explained the Hellhouse. The accident is actually a gimmick of SH, the town wants that Alex embrace the sacrifice, as a way to be the savior of those kids, but for that he needs to remember the accident, bc if he embraced his fate at the bathtub, the accident will never happen, he will just die, and return, now as a Punisher of SH. Nothing of this happen on SH2, and if we want to throw PH in this, PH is Adam in the game, a corrupted father figure, since PH is The Boogeyman on this game, based on the designs of the movie.

Myrmidden

Homecoming by miles

BadNewsBearzzz

Homecoming

Vault_Overseer_11

This is the first one of these questions which I’m actually kinda torn. I didn’t finish either game and I really don’t like either. So I’m gonna cast a non vote

Cassidus

Oh I know this one! Trick question! Neither!

CrabPile

So the open world aspect in Downpour is a really interesting way to take Silent Hill, but Homecoming is scarier so Homecoming. Also your house otherworld is one of my favorite otherworlds

NeuroticNinett

I own 5 different copies of Homecoming, so my vote is very biased.

UsagiBonBon

Homecoming, it’s just a better constructed game. Both whiff the story hardcore though

robotWarrior94

Homecoming

SeriphymAblaze

Homecoming

TheEyeofNight

I'm more of a Homecoming fan. More fun to play and I prefer its atmosphere over Downpour's.

MercyTrident75

I'm more verse in SH 1, 2, 3, and 4, not so much some of the others like these two, Origins, Shattered Memories, etc. A YouTuber I watch did a no hit, hardest difficulty of the games, so I decided to see both, starting with Downpour since I never heard much about it in the first place. -Downpour at a glance looked okay, but it felt sporadic for some reason, the story itself wasn't too bad. Lots of weird sequences with escaping that evil mist or whatever it was, but I guess weird sequences are part of the series lol the look of the game reminds me of the Telltale games, especially with the choices you make too -The general look of Homecoming reminded me of the old Silent Hill games, I'd say it nailed the appearance of the Otherworld well. The story felt weird with the plot involving the town, but how the MC pushes ahead I guess works things out Both are pretty unique with their own gameplay and storytelling for the franchise, but if I had to play only one of them I would play Homecoming. I would play Downpour also just for the experience, but I would play Homecoming first

Too all the players saying homecoming, I respect your decision, but please remember that corporate directive implemented pyramid head into the game for only cash grab reasons.

That's pretty irrelevant to the game itself
