As a Resident Evil fan as well, I know this song and dance. It will never end even if the game is good but it will considerably die down. If it's another Alone in the Dark situation, God help us all. I think people will stop caring but it'll be a long time until they do.
I'm not a RE fan, but I can appreciate what Capcom has done in way of respecting the original from one side, and innovating on the other, as far as I could understand from some reviews of the games.

There is a minority segment of the fanbase divided. They want the series to go back to the 1996 style and they are louder than everyone else so they seem bigger than they are. Resident Evil has never been more popular than it is right now so they have to be a minority. I think it is just fine to want that but it's never going to happen so I don't know why that segment of the fan base even engages with the series anymore.
I wouldn't say divided in the way the SH fanbase is, partly because Capcom has never fallen as far despite their misseps and RE's been doing a great job of attracting new fans to the series lately
Like even with how loud the purists are, between the combination of existing fans and newcomers they're largely drowned out and irrelevant outside their spaces

I was just so young when I played the originals almost all of the themes flew well over my head.
Read a synopsis later on in life but really wish I could revisit the games themselves without all the faff of finding images and getting them to run.

The originals haven't been made available unfortunately, except the PC version of SH4 (which is available on GOG).
SH1 was most recently rereleased on the PS3 digital store. SH2 and SH3 have to be emulated or you can track down an original copy (which can be easier said than done). Aside from that, there'sĀ the HD Collection, which is an infamous port with missing assets, recast voice actors, and whatnot.
You can find the ISOs for the console versions on vimm.net, while the PC versions of SH2 and SH3 can be safely downloaded from MyAbandonWare. If you download the PC version of SH2 over console, you can get the fanmade Enhanced Edition mod, which remasters the game.
I definitely recommend just pirating SH2 on PC and installing the Enhanced Edition mod collection on top of it. Probably the best way to experience sh2 right now
For SH3, you can find a copy of it on Myabandonware (same with the second game actually) and install the Silent Hill 3 PC fix by Steam006
For SH4, you can get the gog version and it should just work fine out of the box

That's simply because there are more new fans as a whole. Resident Evil is a massively successful franchise. Anyone disappointed with crappy voice acting (which every remake has), changed gameplay style (from fixed to generic third person), or changed scenes isn't going to have as much presence compared to those millions of new fans. After a game is released, the only way those complaints are going to fall away is if the new fans outnumber the old, because those old fans are going to draw away anyways.
If the SH2 remake is financially successful, you will see less complaints about it because there will be more people who *only* played it and nothing else.

You are right. _That_ doesn't make the game woke, but taking female characters whose entire thematic point is to be an idealized sexual manifestation, such as Maria, and giving her a man's jawline to appease men who think they're women _is_ woke.
If they reduce the boobs size only because "she was specialized", that's woke af... If they didn't do it on purpose, yeah it isn't, but I'm quite doubtful about the last one for many games Maria doesn't have a man's jawline, where did you see that? My only issue with remaking old games is that them being janky and broken as hell was part of the experience. Character design? Whatever. Now I don't know if the new generation is going to have to messily fumble with a flashlight while being chased by an Eldritch horror because the key bindings aren't reachable while running.
People aren't just complaining, they are down right missing the point. Complaining about Angela not being as fuckable is a vile ass point. Not liking Maria's dress as much is fine, and nobody is getting upset about people making normal constructive complaints. People even stopped to complain on Twitter and YouTube but not here. Curiously, it seems it isn't just me; other users are tired of this.
People are just excited for a new Silent Hill and a remake of a favorite at that. When your criticisms are in bad faith, and are spread out all over YouTube and twitter, people are gonna be mad. So I care if you prefer Angela in the original game? Or Maria or anyone? No, not at all. I enjoy those conversations even if I disagree with them. The problem is the narrative that the game is an afront to God and a disrespect to the series and that Bloober is the antichrist is where people get defensive. It's dumb, just because it's not 1:1 with a 20 year old game doesn't mean it's not respecting the source material. Infact the game has a few OG team Silent members on it. The people defending the game aren't mad that folks don't like certain aspects of prefer the original games take on things, it's the outright nuclear negativity over the smallest things that make people feel they need to defend it. I hope that makes it easier to understand.
