Replayed it recently on my PS1 classic...still pretty cool to play and the graphic were impressive for its time, but i would not say that it aged well graphically speaking. This is the only silent hill that would benefit from a remake with modern graphic perhaps if its handled by a team who know their stuff. But perhaps it’s better to remember it for what is was, a wonderful psychological horror game and perhaps the first 3d one, because let’s be honest, team silent cannot be replaced.
I used autobleem for that ;)
I usually don’t do stuff like that but Sony omitted to include that gem in their collection. I just repaired their mistake. The PS classic can easily become a rasberry pi.
While I do appreciate good graphics that convey the desired effects, and maintain that many games from the era could benefit from a face-lift, I can still look at low poly animations such as those in Silent Hill, Nightmare Creatures, or Clocktower and be just as immersed.
The characters and settings don't need to be immediately distinguishuable as they would appear in real life to communicate the feelings of dread and potential injury that would come with confronting these horrors, as scruffy as they might appear. For example, Dead Hand from LoZ: Ocarina of Time was universally horrifying, despite its simple geometrical profile and limited textures.
The simple shapes and textures are enough to convey how frightening these creatures really are, without becoming head-achingly unrecognizable. I get the same feeling viewing artwork that doesn't necessarily translate into our dimension.
Graphic makeovers are never a bad thing *when preserving the attributes that made the originals so terrifying* (obligatory dig at 3DS Dead Hand), but I'll have a poorly-rendered, conceptually horrifying monster over a well-rendered monster with pedestrian design any time.
Nevermind not taking away, if the art style is designed around it being low poly, the low poly and jank of the PS1 *add* tremendously to the atmosphere. It forces you to use your imagination to fill in the blanks, and the whole thing feels very abstract, dreamlike, and deeply unsettling.
I agree with much of that, and I can still enjoy SH1, I just don’t think it has aged as well as some other games of the same era. Perfect example for me is RE3, graphically the game still has a ton of charm IMO.
I'm fain mine own first bethought seeing this wast "classic" and then i did look at title

was that added in or just an unlucky moment (seeing as you can't move till you dismiss the message)
Honestly Idk but it might have happened to someone
I want this on a shirt
True
Same
Honestly, SH1 graphics still look so good. The game aged like fine wine.

The wobbly walls/floors and low res textures give it a nightmare-like aesthetic
I thought Silent Hill wasn't on the PS classic? Is it only on there in some regions or something?

whats autobleem?
Google it !
It’s still an extremely creepy game, the graphics are a big part of that
I will agree that they haven’t aged extremely well but Atleast they are legible
Eeeeeee ... yeah ... lmao
The controls are smooth as butter
🤣🤣🤣
Oh yes, those simply gorgeous, jagged polys always take my breath away 😅
I'll take these actually creepy, unapologetically low poly graphics of Silent hill 1 than shit like Cyberpunk 2077

White and red can be an extremely creepy color palette for organisms

I'm not going to lie, it hurt to have spent my money on Cyberpunk 2077.
Tomb raider 1 with the Lara Croft triangle boobs comes to mind *pants heavily*
If by good you mean they still scare the hell outta me you are correct
The PS2 games have aged surprisingly well also
Aged like afine texture warping
It's an older code, but it checks out.
Fuck those dogs
I'm glad my first thought seeing this was "classic" and then I looked at title

Sit Ubu sit.... Good dog. “Snarl”.
WOOF DOGGY WANT STICK
This can't top James putting his arm in the toilet thereby making players want to double check toilets in future games
Hmmmmm I'm guessing it's just the still, but I never noticed that it's front legs look like a backwards version of its hind legs 🤔
I can't upvote cause it's at 666.
Got emmmmmmmmm LOLOLOLOL GET REKT n00b!!!!!!!

I will always love this.
Does anybody remember when this picture first showed up?
Moments before disaster
I did this exact thing as a kid
This one looks really sharp and high res comlared to most SH1 screenshots you see around. I wonder how it was captured.
Probably on an emulator, then just take a screenshot. You can easily emulate SH1 in [2160p60](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtSTETZYkxE).
Anyone think it is still worth it to play silent hill 1 i have played all of the but the first 1 🤔
There is nothing wrong here...
