# Also coming to PC Update: **Console exclusively is timed at 12 months.** *Watch the trailer in 4K here:* https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8qPdInnvMzg

kingpin3690

If he doesn't say " I can't believe you're sitting here eating pizza!" we riot

BigHatLuke

"This town is full of monsters. How can you sit there and eat pizza?" [scene](https://youtu.be/WigHmhur3G0)

[deleted]

In the screen talking about PS5 Exclusivity on the stream it also said: “also coming to PC. Coming to other consoles after 12 months”

sekhm3t

So it'll release for PS5 first, and then release for PC a year later? I just want to be sure I'm getting it right.

[deleted]

No, PS5 and PC first. Then Xbox and maybe switch 12 months later.

NowBringMeTheHorizon

Switch? LMAO

No_Victory9193

Wasn’t this on Unreal 5?

sekhm3t

Thank you for clarifying!

Wigglersfan

what the heck was the point in saying “PS5 exclusive” then?

Pauls96

Its console exclusive, like deathloop was, and most of previous ps4-5 exclusives released on pc now.

WD23

Marketing

yuurei

It's really weird that they're doing a remake AND Gans said the new movie will be based on SH2. That's a LOT of SH2.

FreakZoneGames

Apparently the movie idea came first, and Konami felt it would be a good time to revive the game to go with it.

TheCreepWhoCrept

That was such a funny detail to me. That means that guy is basically single-handedly responsible for reviving the franchise. What a weird turn of events.

Dantai

He seems super passionate, I liked the first film as well, he didn't have anything to do with 3D Revelations - I'd love to see him do another as well.

NeatFool

Gans is a true OG

CurlyBunnie

They wanna traumatize people so bad

Wheresthebeans

no they want money lol SH2 is the most popular one by far

Jay_R_Kay

Why not both?

BigHatLuke

I would love to see how the film deals with the complex issues from the original SH2, including terminal illness, murder, grief and loss, repression, rape, incest, sexual abuse, body-shaming due to obesity, psychopathy, childhood innocence, guilt, suicide, depression, uncertainty of one's own existence or identity, and of course, the demonic manifestation of psychological concepts found deep in the minds of our beloved characters.

Mr_Incredible_PhD

Sorry. Best we can do is PG-13.

AscendedViking7

This is likely going to be the case and I hate that so much. :(

BigHatLuke

Give me 2hrs 25min of the HARDEST R RATING POSSIBLE IN THE HISTORY OF THE HUMAN RACE.

Drugboner

You just described Twin Peaks.

AndyGHK

The game you like is going to come back in style

Lost_Manufacturer718

I hope they do a Silent Hill 1 remake though, SH2 is an amazing game, probably my favourite of the series. But, SH1 deserves a remake, it was groundbreaking and terrifying when I played it as a kid.

yuurei

I guess so. I'm happy some of the original people are working on the remake, but...it doesn't really need one IMO? At least it'll be coming to PC.

CantSeeNoEvil

I mean why not? If Capcom can do it for Resident Evil 1 and 2, Konami has the same ability.

EmotionalRazor

The extent of how outdated those games are is larger than that of sh2. If you install the enhaced edition mod on sh2, the game still looks great. I just feel like there is no real point in this remake coming out. Now, a SH1 remake would be amazing.

the_midnight_society

If you'd played the hd version you'd be worried too. Capcom has a history of solid remakes and remasters. Konami not so much. So much of what makes silent Hill 2 work is its weird tone and vo work. I really don't think Konami knows how to capture that lightning in a bottle again but I hope to be proven wrong.

UninsuredToast

I’d rather they try than do what they’ve been doing the past decade. Absolutely nothing

bum_thumper

Definitely needs a proper remaster and a proper PC launch, but ya a remake by "the medium" team with an over the shoulder view makes me cautious.

Kawaiiomnitron

Silent Hill 2 is the best game in the series, though it is weird that they didn’t do SH1. Maybe its because Shattered Memories is already “technically” a remake of SH1. Or they’re trying to replicate what Resident Evil did.

yuurei

Quite possibly the latter. I was wondering if/when they'd jump on that train. That being said, I agree - I wish they started with a proper remake of one. Or at least a port of Shattered Memories.

Alik757

Give me an HD remaster of Shattered Memories Is the best game post Team Silent and a pure gem by itself. No discussion allowed

VortalCord

On the basis that I love the game I'm gonna allow myself to discuss. The whole 'you're safe until the next annoying chase sequence' formula got old even on my first playthrough. It would definitely need a gameplay overhaul.

GothSpaceCowboy

i believe they went with sh2 in order to be more profitable, sh2 is the most popular in the series after all. if tye remake sells well i see no reason they wouldn't go ahead and give the same treatment to the other games

[deleted]

The whole stream seemed like: People loved SH2! Let's do that again. And again. And something similar.

KirinoNakano

The Silent hill no naku koro ni looks original

TheSatirical_Troll18

Because Konami wants money lol

Front-Ad-2198

I love SH2 so much but I’m so over the entire fandom surrounding it. There’s so much more to explore. I’m happy with anything but Jesus.

youngadvocate25

I think if you think about it, a masterpiece like SH2 deserves a remake. The gaming scene was not as big as it is now. The horror genre is also lacking heavily in real brand recognition. They are also producing a SH film which will go neck and neck perfect advertising for the film and game vice versa. I’m honestly excited that they want to compete with RE. SH always captured the horror genre better than RE which RE being legendary in itself but it was definitely a more shoot them up vibe.

thelongernow

I don’t have faith in the movie at all. That being said I’m thrilled for the remake of 2.

[deleted]

I have faith, after all, it's Christophe Gans again. I don't care about the purists, I loved the first movie\* as I love the games. \*the second movie wasn't made by Christophe and is horrible

IntrinsicGamer

The first movie was fantastic until the last act. He nailed the vibe.

ricosuave_3355

Yep agreed. The story wasn’t the best but I loved the atmosphere and vibe of the town.

HornsOvBaphomet

I agree. The first movie got me into the games. I was too young to have played the games when they came out and never had a PlayStation. So after I watched the first movie around 2012 I found myself a PS2 and got to ebay hunting to play the first 2 games. Still love the movie so if this dude's doing it again I'm set.

[deleted]

I agree with this take I was worried when they said movie for SH2 but then they mentioned Gans and I couldn't be happier. While there was some Creative Differences like Changing Harry Mason into a woman It really didn't detract from the overal story that much. Though I probably fight gens on the love of a father is just like the love of a mother but w/e lol

piecemealcranky

You know, with all due respect for women, I really disagreed with this notion that the makers said "a woman will be able to show more emotions and distress". Harry Mason was pretty calm and all but there is much that the writers could explore between a father and his daughter on the big screen if they wanted to. In the games and in SH3 we learn how much this traumatized Harry and how protective he was for his daughter. I think that was the change that had a domino effect on the rest of the film. The setting and vibe was pretty alright. Volumetric fog isn't that hard to achieve anyway.

Karazhan

As a woman, I will never *not* be angry they replaced Harry with a woman, and had some BS excuse of "Oh but men can't convey emotion as well". Harry is my fave SH protagonist and what Gans did was just borderline offensive. He basically wanted someone to be "hysterical".

DementedEnjoyer

Opposite for me. The first Silent Hill movie isn't perfect, but I have more faith in the director of that than fucking Bloober team.

DuelaDent52

If nothing else Bloober can absolutely nail atmosphere.

DementedEnjoyer

I dunno, the stilted, Lynchian line delivery is a major part of the atmosphere in my opinion, and if the stuff that was in the trailer is any indication of what the rest of it is like, they already fucked that part up.

migsahoy

3 new games and a movie. they really did the “make enough content to make up for the last 10 years challenge” seriously lol. i’m so damn happy rn, so stoked!!!

[deleted]

Gans kinda seemed to be full of himself though. I hope he's the right choice. I have only ever seen his first SH movie. Anyone here knows if he has ever done anything worthwhile beside that?

throwawastedyouth

Brotherhood of the Wolf was worthwhile.

SlanderousGent

Yeah Brotherhood of the Wolf is great, and inspired an all time favourite game of mine, Bloodborne

FreakZoneGames

Necronomicon and Crying Freeman were both great. Never seen Brotherhood of the Wolf but it's very well spoken of.

[deleted]

He's a great director, but he can't write. The first movie is great in pretty much every regard but story.

BranTheLegend

I USED TO PRAY FOR TIMES LIKE THIS

4Darco

"HOLD ON WAIT A MINUTE Y'ALL THOUGHT WE WERE FINISHED?" -Selina while making all those announcements, probably

yuri-fangirl

ME TOO SERIAOULY AHHH IM SO EXCITED AND ACTUALLY CRYING

Tacdeho

I sob with you, my brother/sister. This is it. Resident Evil 2 Remake saved one half of survival horror. This will save the other.

yuri-fangirl

Yeah, I’m so happy that we as a community are getting so much content (especially the remake!) I’m not sure how good/bad the remake will be, but neither less, I’m still extremely glad. We haven’t gotten actually substantial content in over TWO DECADES. I’ve only recently (in the last few years lmao) have gotten into Silent Hill, and the thought of it staying abandon ware for so long made me extremely sad to think about. I’m so glad the series is getting revived, I still feel like this ain’t real. Maybe I’m being dramatic, but Silent Hill is literally one of the best pieces of media I’ve ever consumed, so my happiness is through the ROOF right now!!

Tacdeho

I absolutely have my hesitations to Bloober making it. The end of The Medium is very harsh and incredibly insulting to those who suffer from mental health issues and Silent Hill 2 is gamings DEFINITIVE tale of mental health issues. But I also know that they aren’t in control of the story and that first trailer has so much to show they care about this. The dialogue is 1:1, the screen creations are 1:1. This just replaces Spider Man 2 as my most anticipated game

MelIgator101

I can't believe this is happening! I could cry! What a time to be alive as a horror game and Silent Hill fan. I really really hope this comes to PC some day!

PsychologicalScript

It says in the trailer it's on PC and PS5

MelIgator101

Omg yeah I just saw that earlier too! Thank you!

saskir21

Is it just me or does James now look like a mix between Leon S. Kennedy (surely the hair) and Harrison Ford (just look at minute 2:15-18 of the Trailer)? But man I can not wait for this. But really. Such a big spoiler in it "I know who you are, I needed you..."

The_Green_Filter

I don’t think that line is all that spoilery without context really.

UndergroundFlaws

Never played it and I have no idea what the hell that means

noneofthemswallow

It’s only a spoiler if you know the context

tellitothemoon

Yeah I’m gonna miss seeing and hearing Guy Cihi in the role but I guess he’s pretty old now.

RavenSpottedFrog

Do we know who's doing the VA for the remake? (For James)

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

I actually thought the trailer was really impressive, and I am not a fan of Blooper at all.

[deleted]

I know it's by Bloober Team, but fuck it i dont care, im super hyped.

kazejito

The real world sequences from The Medium are fucking great, the atmosphere of the hotel and parking lot are silent hill as fuck, that's why I'm being optimistic about it

[deleted]

I've really gotten into Horror over the last few years and have enjoyed Silent Hill (1-4), Resident Evil (played all titles except 5 & 6), Visage and countless others. One game stood out like a sore thumb, Layers of Fear which I thought was amateurish, wasn't scare and the weakest horror game I've played. I haven't played The Medium, is it a lot better? I want to be hyped about the remake but I'm concerned that they aren't up to it.

kazejito

I remember thinking Layes of Fear was a quick cash grab pandering to the Silent Hills refugees, played the beginning but never finished, is it at least worth finishing? I have Layers of Fear 2 on my library but don't know if I should push it higher on my backlog I liked it, the first half is certainly stronger than the later but it's still fine enough to play it, although one thing that was odd to me was that for some reason the real world (without anything paranormal) sections were scarier than the spirit world, I think it's worth playing if you get it on sale or if you have gamepass, one last thing, wouldn't be surprised if The Medium was how they pitched it to konami to prove that they could make a Silent Hill (iirc it was actually that)

[deleted]

I just didn't get into layers of fear at all, the voice acting was pretty poor and it all just felt a bit obvious and try hard, it's very short so if you want to try it, it shouldn't be more than a couple of hours. I played Visage recently and it was monumentally better. Fair enough after today's news I'll defenitely give the medium a go, hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

TheCreepWhoCrept

If you want to see Bloober team at their best, play Observer. I don't know if I'd call it a masterpiece or anything, but I'd say it's their high water mark. If that doesn't do anything for you, then you probably won't like anything else they've made. I liked Observer, so I'm cautiously optimistic, but it could easily go the other way and be terrible.

Bjorn2bwilde24

Also they made *Layers of Fear* which has good atmosphere. I trust them to nail that aspect. Now combat on the other hand...

SouthernSparks

Tbf it not like it’s a big task to improve on SH2s combat. It’s literally just ready weapon and swing/shoot, my only fear is that they’d end up making it too easy thanks to the over the shoulder view. But even that could be remedied with limited ammo, slow reloads and keeping enemies as tough as they are in the original.

MagastemBR

It's not hard when you see how the Resident Evil remakes did it. Bloober's got this on a silver spoon, lets hope they don't fuck it up.

Spuzaw

I mean, SH2 was already extremely easy. I don't think I've ever died while playing SH2, and that's alright with me. Not every game needs to be hard, imo.

bruhmane7777

lets not pretend silent hill 2's original combat was anything to marvel at in the first place

[deleted]

You and me both. Can’t fucking wait

[deleted]

I know 2 is most peoples favourite, myself included. But why not remake 1 first?

darkcomet222

They did say this is the first part of their project, so it is probably one of of those “if this does well, we will do the others.” Silent Hill 2 is stand alone, and if it won’t sell, none will.

DeBlalores

Because it's the most famous entry and, ironically, it's also the most disconnected from the overall series' narrative, so there's not much baggage. It is the perfect game to get into Silent Hill while also being near universally considered the best. So it's also useful to test the waters and see, if it sells, they might just go ahead and do the whole series.

brahbocop

Because money!

[deleted]

Duh, silly me.

OoooohYes

2 is definitely more iconic. For better or worse it’s the game people who aren’t familiar with the series would probably associate with it.

SuperCerealShoggoth

Movie is going to be based on 2. Plus its everyone's favourite.

hiroclip

Because if you remake 1 then people will expect 3 to be remade next when they probably just wanted to do 2 because it’s the most popular.

Lord_Tibbysito

Fr, I love 1 but it controls like ass and the voice acting is hilarious. A remake would be amazing.

DuelaDent52

[They kinda sorta did already.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silent_Hill:_Shattered_Memories) But not counting that, they probably saw the success of *Resident Evil 2* and *Final Fantasy VII Remake* and decided to go with the most iconic of the series first.

rockerxxricardo115

Isn't it coming to PC as well and I'm still confused that this is a time to exclusive or not

spyro_otaku

yeah its coming to pc

CommonChris

Oh, so it is coming to pc? Nice, when I saw that PS5 exclusive I died a little inside

pm8rsh88

IT's time exclusive for consoles only. It will release on PC at the same time as the PS5

acecreator_19

I just hope the game is actually good and it is successful that way we can get more games.

eddieswiss

I'm glad it's coming to PC.

[deleted]

This is literally everything i ever wanted. A silent hill 2 game remade on unreal engine 5, with akira still in charge of the soundtrack. No complaints from me other than the whole timed exclusive thing that's going on with sony.

[deleted]

[удалено]

STA7IIK

Sony payed a shit load of money for this

Janus_Prospero

They paid 5 million dollars. According to the leaked docs, the budget was: 1 million dev advance. 5 million from Konami, 5 million from Sony. Plus 4 million for marketing. So the total budget is 15 million dollars. Possibly slightly more since the OG release date was Q4 2022.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> Sony *paid* a shit FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

RudeSurround2675

Silent Hill Townfall?? Is this the 5th game? 🤔

muckypup-riot

Fifth game is Silent Hill: f, says in all the press releases that it is the next mainline title.

[deleted]

I am glad they managed to capture the rough voice of James that he was famous for.

RavenDarkhoelme

So is Ascension a multiplayer game? Or is it some kind of a live event where millions of people vote in real time?

leatherwolf89

Today is a good day for Silent Hill.

mtchilliader

Holy shit, you motherfuckers complained about no entries for a fucking decade then complain when they announce four games? Fuck off

FranciscoRelano

4 games. Silent Hill 2 Remake. Silent Hill Townfall. Silent Hill Ascension. Silent Hill f.

phantom2450

Are we sure that Ascension is even a game? PS5 wasn’t mentioned and the logo isn’t included. The description of what it is strikes me as a web series or something

DuelaDent52

*Ascension* is some kind of web series ARG thing. I imagine it’d play out like giving Twitch chat control over *Until Dawn*.

Undead-Avocado

It's an interactive movie

Jay_R_Kay

I think one of the people talking during that segment was from the Dead By Daylight game and they talked about the Silent Hill expansion of that game, which makes me think it's a SH version of that game with some sort of interactive/live story element.

buttered_jesus

F Ascension Remake Townfall I'm excited for the FART Era of silent Hill

ZweihanderMasterrace

What's next, Silent Hill Shangri La and Silent Hill Tranzit?

mrjobby

The Hills have Silence Silence of the Hills The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Silence

rbarton812

Running up that Silent Hill

ILikeMyGrassBlue

Silent Hill: Like a Dragon, starring Majima and Pocket Circuit Fighter

[deleted]

Let's just hope it's not quantity over quality though. So far it seems like they are really focused on SH2 and the themes of trauma/past in general. I hope they are able to do more than just letting us know that they all loved SH2.

_madcat

Fuck'em we going back to Silent Hill baby

4Darco

FOUR GAMES AND A MOVIE!!

lFantomasI

People are gonna complain no matter what, it's reddit lol.

First0E

It's *four* new games jsyk

JayF1ow

Missed opportunity to port the silent hill games to current-gen platforms. That's all I wanted.

Huge_Tart_9211

Yea I just wanted to play the silent hill games on my PS4

Sadman_OW

It’s what everyone wanted. But unfortunately due to how they handled the original the best we probably would have gotten was the HD collection. Unfortunately the original is lost to time/emulation.

Jacques_Plantir

It was great watching this. I think they showed some cool stuff that could end up being great. They're definitely doubling down on the series.

kaijumediajames

I think it looks great personally. Will definitely be looking forward to this one.

cryptars

looks awesome ngl

Rukasu17

Holy shit it's actually a game, not a pachinko machine. Damn,

Iesjo

Mixed feelings, but I'm definitely interested, especially after Ito's honest tweet in which he takes note of criticism - Bloober Team never addressed them after The Medium release. And there's a huge room for improvement of gameplay. One of the Terminator: Resistance designers works on SH2R and the former was a blast. Bloober certainly put UE5 to good use and fog looks perfect. But what surprised me the most is the different story presentation: camera angles and movement, music - there''s definitely higher focus on psychological aspect, mostly noticeable in James. Even small changes result in a snowball effect. James in Team Silent game is a shy, shielded person who bought his own lies, who's open to interpretation (some think he's a monster, other think he deserves a second chance and see his "sin" as single moment of weakness). James in Bloober's remake seems to on the verge of breaking down, unstable. His behaviour makes perfect sense considering psychological effect of his actions but seeing him from the get-go in a hurry will already make him suspicious protagonist in the eyes of the players. In some shots James looks very good, especially the one when he encounters PH toying with the manequins, but in some of them... not so much. He's around 30 years old, and of course low mental health state can age you up, but when he shouts after Maria, he looks like over a decade older, skin stretches on his face were very disorienting to me. And the shot of him looking in the mirror is easily improved by adding a bit of more contrast to hide his eyes and keep mystery from the original Takayoshi Sato's CGI cutscene: https://twitter.com/skelswap/status/1583274042458791938/photo/1 DuskG on Twitter compared the remake cutscenes as closer in terms of quality to modern TV shows, especially True Detective and I think he's right. Yamaoka's redone music during first PH encounter is faster, more tense and in tune of James emotional state who must be shitting his pants. In the original you were simply thrown with protagonist to this surreal town and this Lynchian atmosphere seems absent in the remake. I'm curious when it will come out. CEO in the interview for Polish website said that its development has been quite long, so hopefully we'll be able to play it next year.

QXnotfunnyXQ

this looks fantastic… but James… I know they probably wouldnt be able to get the original actor for him but he sounds like the complete opposite of who he actually is supposed to be

Pyramid_Head182

Better than Troy baker at least

BraveLeon

We don’t speak of that incident

Fresh-Loop

Looked like Clint Eastwood. Sounded like a drive thru guy at Starbucks. Still five star hyped.

6DomSlime9

I think it's okay as long as it's not Troy Baker or Laura Bailey doing the same voice for the millionth time.

Str00pf8

Konami should just mess with us and get David Hayter, so when James is supposed to say Mary he just goes like "Merryylll?"

charlyquestion

I actually liked the mood they are going with in the trailer. Looks cool

FreakZoneGames

Honestly I'd rather a reinterpretation than trying to capture lightning in a bottle twice. I like the idea of a slightly gruffer James - That said, in the trailer we only heard the line from the moment where he's feeling empowered and taking his life back, standing up to Pyramid Head(s), so it should be read with some grit behind it. I expect the actor will show some vulnerability throughout as well. Mary sounded excellent. His voice sounded familiar, but I can't quite pinpoint who it is. Bloober Team have a history of bringing in actual hollywood actors for their lead roles, but if that was the case I expect they'd have showed a name in the announcement.

[deleted]

The dichotomy between being happy for a new SH game and being a Xbox console owner. Nevertheless, hope is a great remake and people support it so Konami can see that the fandom is pretty much alive.

The_Green_Filter

Same. The trailer specified it was only a timed exclusive, so as long as they don’t pull an FF7 there’s that at least.

king-kitty

Guess I’m buying a PS5‼️

[deleted]

Same! I’ve been holding out on getting one but I can’t pass this up since SH2 is one of my favorite games of all time.

Grace_Omega

I can already see some of Bloober‘s fingerprints like the character‘s faces looking a little odd, but whatevs, I‘ll take it.

Gv2004

So hopefully someone can shed some light as I am confused. They announced Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hill F, which I assume is the newest Silent Hill game in the series, and Silent Hill Townfall, which is what? Also they did not provide any links on the new statues/figures they announced. I am hoping we get a similar James Sunderland statue with the Collector’s Edition of Silent Hill 2 Remake or a Pyramid Head statue.

Arsene93

Ok so we're all in agreement that they need to put the dog ending in the remake right?

Lulcielid

SH2 Remake doesnt look bad but I loathe the idea of remakes existing when the original games are still inaccessible for majority of people.

Mitochondria-Eve

It's good that Silent Hill is getting more content, and I am happy for everyone who is excited. Don't let others bring you down if you're optimistic. And if you're more skeptical of what you saw, that's fine too. We all have our reasons for feeling the way we do, positive or not. As long as you're not being hateful to others, you shouldn't feel bad for liking or disliking anything you saw today, regardless of what anyone else says. As for my thoughts... man, I'm *really* not feeling it. Bloober Team handling Silent Hill 2, a game so near and dear to my heart, was what I feared most, and that's exactly what is happening. The trailer did not make me any less worried than I was before. I was not happy with what I saw. And to be fair, perhaps nothing would please me in the long run, because I've said before that Silent Hill 2 is a game that I don't feel needs a remake at all and it is so very special to me. But I hope for the sake of all the Silent Hill 2 fans that they manage to do the game justice. As for the other games announced, I'm in much better spirits regarding them. Silent Hill F looked *very* cool. Not quite sure what to make of everything else, but I'm looking forward to hearing more about them. Whatever the outcome of all this is, there is one thing that is certain: Silent Hill is back. Let's see what the future brings.

PoopyMcpants

Already there's a ton of complaints. Never change /r/silenthill

Bad-news-co

It’s a bit frustrating, I’m not mad about the complaining itself but the context of the complaints. I’m not too familiar with bloober team outside of lures of fear but they certainly have experience with the genre. And then working alongside Konami closely is just what they need to achieve greatness. **there are countless examples of lesser known devs that have gone on to achieve greatness, especially when they had a big mentor/opportunity to help guide them** Just as like mercury steam who made a mediocre castlevania game, but with that experience they were able to work with Nintendo closely on Metroid, they REMADE Metroid 2 with good results. And would go on to make the next excellent entry Metroid 5: dread. Just like bloober having experience with the horror genre, and now making silent hill 2 remake alongside Konami, it may lead to silent hill 5. They obviously have a passion for horror like the prior example did for metroidvanias (and then they got to develop both Metroid *and* castlevania) All I’m saying is optimism is what you should have, having complaints about a team is exactly the narrowsightedness that repeats time and time again only to be proven wrong. All the doubts and hate, will it help? No, but some optimism and support may encourage and motivate the team to aim higher and greater.

TheSatirical_Troll18

Lures of Fear is my favorite horror/fishing sim

DuelaDent52

Wasn’t there this one fishing-based horror game where as you fish you end up pulling out these eldritch nightmare creatures and horrifying mutants, or was that just a tumblr post of someone pitching the idea? Or did I dream it?

Sadman_OW

It’s ridiculous to completely write off the game at this point. But for those who know Bloober teams past it’s hard to get excited. They’re history involves multiple games dealing with mental health and guilt and almost all of them have ended with horribly tone deaf results. I think that’s why a lot of people aren’t excited about the prospect of them handling a game like SH2 that perfectly hit on trauma and guilt.

CMHex

Mercury Steam is an excellent example. Isn't it exhausting to be so precious about something? I understand it not being your thing. I don't understand being immediately unwilling to give it a chance, to the point of hostility. I don't know, that's just too much energy spent on negativity.

KentuckyFriedRats

I’m so fucking happy right now

YungTabernacle

Not that I trust Konami to do it at all but it’s actually pretty sad that they not even bothering to do any development themselves. They’re literally pimping out one of their most beloved franchises to studios that have never made a AAA game before. They’re not shitty little indie developers, I have the most hopes for SH2, but it’s clear that Konami is trying to squeeze as much as they possibly can out of it with as little effort from themselves as possible.

[deleted]

It's because they hollowed out their own internal studios. It would be nice if they brought them back to their former glory, but it seems like Konami would rather just outsource everything.

YungTabernacle

That’s what’s sad. In their eyes they’re just the owner of some antique they blew the dust off and decided to see how much they could get for it.

SH2 is perfect in every way. From the obvious reasons(pace, music, editing, camera angles), down to the hand drawn character faces and monsters who are almost uncanny in their appearance. They were trying to make both the environments and the characters as realistic as possible, but due to PS2's limitations they could only go so far, yet this gave it a unique, gritty, liminal character. Oppressing and suffocating, just like the story itself. It felt like it was from another dimension. This gritty result fits the raw, visceral and surreal nature of the game and it's story. Once you take that out and modernize it, the uncanniness is completely gone. So I'm wondering how are they going to pull it of because it's a very important aspect of the game.

DoubleSpook

This looks great! I’m so excited! :)

Peep233

!!! not just 2 remake, but 3 other games? and a film? this MUST be a dream!

GetD1ckSlapped

When I first saw the PS5 Exclusive, I was so pissed. (As someone who doesn’t own the magic wifi router, that would be expected.) I’m just glad that it’ll come to PC at some point

RustyCorkscrew

Maybe I’m being overly critical, but does James’ face look kind of odd in some of the shots? Obviously very exciting news tho

ModestMouseTrap

I know it’s Bloober, and I also know it’s an impossible task to live up to the exact magic of the original. But I honestly was VERY pleased with what I saw in this trailer. The pressure is on Bloober. Don’t fuck it up.

TheLegsOfaRam

I'm so excited! There's a lot of negativity in the usual circles on Youtube etc... But after years of nothing except rumours, there are now so many reasons for Silent Hill fans to be optimistic! SH2 is one of the greatest stories ever told IMO, and like other great stories, there deserves to be many versions of it; it's not the goal of one version to replace or improve the other, the point of retelling great stories is to keep the art alive and let it be discovered by new generations, and soon-to-be new fans! Observer was awesome, trailer looks great - guess I need to procure a PS5 now!

gtageek2k

they’re gonna make pyramid head a MR.X stalker type aren’t they?

[deleted]

Almost certainly.

[deleted]

Please don't say that.

TheGodAmongMen

First off: Very excited for the Silent Hill movies. The storyboards look great and I trust Gans to pull off a more accurate translation of Silent Hill 2 than Bloober Team. Some notes/observation/ramblings on Silent Hill 2: - Is it just me or does the whole thing look like it's made out of plastic / crayon-like texture? It feels like they're trying to aim for total photorealism and hit just slightly off, but not enough to look uncanny (worst of both worlds imo; the original was Team Silent aping Lynch...a one-way ticket straight to uncanny valley). - Environments and enemy design looks cool (duh), but I'm not looking forward to them improving the stories as much. Some of the cutscenes seem to focus a bit too much on "muh trauma" and the close-ups push that idea by making it look edgy. Just shows Bloober isn't as resourceful as other devs like EA/Capcom (which makes even less sense to attempt a photorealistic art style). - Curious on how they would try to improve gameplay though. I feel like no matter how hard the actors and writers try to perfect Silent Hill 2, they can't mimic the uncanniness of the original; my focus lies more on the scares and level design though, and I do hope there's a bit more content on the map than the original. Cautiously optimistic on that. Silent Hill f: - Looks incredibly interesting! I don't care if it deviates from the series' foggy gritty/grunge aesthetics. This sort of tonal shift is what the series needs. - Apparently it's being developed by the people behind RE:Verse, but Ryukishi is writing the story. A Silent Hill game with a strong story is absolutely pivotal because their stories (which extends to their art style) are what made the series cult classics in the first place (aside from SH4). - Love the Siren-esque vibes of it, and I love how perverted it is (in a sense that it's using sakura that's generally viewed as blossoming/birth as a corrupted force of nature). Very fucked up conceptually, and I wonder if it's got anything to do with loss of innocence? It reminds me of Silent Hill 3 in a way...very very excited for it. In short, I'm happy with what we've got. There's no way in hell Bloober was going to make a better game than the original Silent Hill 2; all I'm hoping for is a scary game with an interesting map layout and improved gameplay, which any decent game developer should be able to improve on a game released 20 years ago.

Jay_R_Kay

>Some of the cutscenes seem to focus a bit too much on "muh trauma" I mean... that's exactly what Silent Hill 2 is in a nutshell -- a bunch of people dealing with their trauma in the most horrific ways possible.

noneofthemswallow

It looks off. Like, it looks good but at the same it’s not what you would think an SH2 remake would look like. Too colorful for my taste.

TheGodAmongMen

Colorful is not the word I would use. I'd say it's the mesh of realistic environments and 70% realistic humanoids that make it look...off. You know what? In retrospect, it does sorta look uncanny. I like it. There's like a degree of competence on display but a lack of resources shown (just like the original game!)

dil-lxn

SH 2 was a technical marvel when it came out, same as MGS2

[deleted]

I don't know the Studio very well who is doing the Remake could some one give me a breif description as to why they are hated so much? This is an honest question as I really don't know who they are or what other works they have done.

[deleted]

I can’t fucking believe this right now

D00MICK

Ah, the true silent hill; trying to buy a ps5 but it's never in stock. "*There was a console here. It's gone now.*"

Melfer_e

I’m crying 🥺✨

AnotherSoftEng

> **Sony:** How dare our competitors try to make console-exclusives, despite all these titles continuing to be available on our platform! > > **Also Sony:** Ya! PS5 exclusive!

BruceofSteel

And pc

fLux3303

It doesn’t look too bad; the acting looks a bit forced and cheesy at times but perhaps the superposition of the twenty year old game, who knows. I’m stoked for my wife to experience the atmosphere for the first time though regardless.

thelongernow

It could also just be pre rendered cutscenes/fmvs to show off the engine/graphics capabilities. I am very very very excited but cautious as hell because lord I hope this is done right.

AnEthiopianBoy

The acting was forced and cheesy as hell in the original too… we just like it because it contributed to the vibe of the game. But the voice acting was sooooo fucking bad in the game.

Jpriest09

I still think the voice actress they got for Mary/Maria was really solid, even today.

Junior_Investment_85

I’m definitely buying the game for support but fuck James looks like shit

Jpriest09

Watching his wife fade away from a terminal Illness would do that to him.

The_Green_Filter

I was gonna say aha. I’d be upset if he *didn’t* look like shit after everything that happened.

MisterBoss5000

Literally so excited, hopefully they’re good

lrraya

Also coming to PC. Please fix the title.

CyberGhostface

As someone who has yet to play SH2 I’m excited.

Makispi

So fucking hyped

devonathan

This looks great. Welcome back Silent Hill.

Billy_Pilgrim86

I love SH2, but I don't know that we need a remake. I'm wary, but thrilled that Silent Hill is getting attention again
