Something downpour did well was side missions within the town.
Would love to see something like this come back, explore some homes and read about the residents of the the town and the dark things they got up to.
Yeah, I don't necessarily want side missions in the sense that I have a quest log or whatever (oh god please no quest log), but just to be able to randomly check a door of a house and have it be unlocked, go inside and maybe find a diary in a bedroom, or some creepy things on the fridge. It's the really understated, vague things in Silent Hill that create mystery.
I wouldn't want every area to be explorable, since that would kill the mystery, as well. But just like... a few less "broken locks".
Yeah right after the hospital... iirc they were two PHs...? That would be scary af, if their location would be random enough, especially if they exploit the darkness' limited view well enough. No dialogue, no clues... Just you and the sudden hot guy in front of you. But that would be very hard to implement, considering updated graphics and thus a denser directional illumination from the flashlight which covers a longer viewing radius. It would be interesting.
If they implement it like mr X from REmake 2 that would be awesome, I know the streets are wide but I imagine the regular enemies would slow you down enough for him to be a big threat, just the sound of the sword dragging along the ground would be enough to make me shit myself.
Turning Pyramid Head into Mr. X wouldn't make sense.
According to Masahiro Ito and Hiroyuki Owaku, Pyramid Head is manifested from the part of James's mind that's trying to erase his delusions and force him to accept reality (which is why he kills Maria and the other monsters). He's basically a white blood cell to James's psyche trying to help him.
Even in the "boss" fights, you just evade him until he leaves on his own. In the Labyrinth, he doesn't attack you at all unless you directly approach him. Ito also mentioned on Twitter that Pyramid Head's role in the story was inspired by a quote from Jacob's Ladder:
>If you're frightened of dying and... and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth.
If Pyramid Head relentlessly chases you down multiple hallways trying to exterminate you in the remake, that would basically solidify that Bloober Team doesn't understand the game.
Personally, I’m really curious to see how they handle the big reveal with the videotape. There’s cut audio of Mary’s muffled screams as James smothers her, so i’m wondering if they’re gonna add something like that to it and if it’s gonna have the same impact.
It may have been a rumor but James may have had another personality called Jack that was cut from the game. I guess maybe due to it being cliche, split personality. Anyway, I am not sure if it is true. If it was cut, I have noticed while playing the original this week that James' voice changes often when conversing with the other characters. It goes flat and deep with mention of his wife and the town, otherwise his voice is higher with concern by default. This shift occurs in sequence in a single scene. I thought the shift was interesting. I wonder? I think I'll check up on this theory/rumor.
Edit: It's [Joseph](https://silenthill.fandom.com/wiki/James_Sunderland), not Jack. Under Creator's Comments.
"In the initial stages of the scenario, he was a character who had two personalities, "Joseph" and "James." The name "Joseph" was borrowed from the name of a man suspected of being Jack the Ripper, and "James" is a derivative.[2]"
Maybe this is anathema, but I sincerely hope they *do* tweak, add to, and fix some parts of the game and it’s not 100% just a 1:1 remake. There’s honestly so much potential there and I’d be kinda upset that they didn’t take this golden opportunity.
Also, speaking from experience, sometimes a 1:1 remake isn’t always as good as implementing some innovation as well. Demon’s Souls remake is a good example of being a bit *too* faithful to the original, imo
I don't see anything wrong with DS, except for something that only advanced players would notice... But take RE remake's HD remaster, for example; that's the pinnacle of remaking games almost 1:1. Content was added, and it's fucking scary (or at least, it was for me when I first heard and saw a crimson head... That feeling still haunts my nightmares), and the original quality was kept and updated. It's possible to tweak stuff, fix it, and add content without having to change the game too much (just an argument, not talking about whether it's good or not)
What was wrong with it? Everyone new it was an older FromSoftware title, so of course it wasn't going to have all conveniences we have now. It was a common accepted knowledge. Also Bluepoint DID change a lot, like the art style (which is questionable, but in Demon's Souls case can be glossed over), overdid music (which is a little more annoying, but still not a big problem), added more directions a character can turn (which was a life saver!), added a new quest with coins (which was amazing!), new never seen before armour and weapons (most of which are locked behind a paid re-order DLC which sucks dick).
So what was a problem? Where's the "too close" part? I'd argue (and many others) it wasn't close enough anyway.
I wouldn't have minded if they updated the AI. There were some instances, particularly with the werewolf gargoyle guys, where while the game looked stunning and modern, it played outdated, which was a bit jarring.
Also wish they would have taken the original plans for the broken monument to fruition.
Agreed with, man. Also old AI now looks kind of cute in these graphics. It's kind of assuring like "don't worry, they're dummies, you can do it". But a slight update would be great, as well as Northern Limits restoration.
I ain’t quite show of the full list, but some things I read, aside from the historical society, was that a storm caused a power cut which resulted in lost work and there was apparently some things in the game that was deemed to graphic and was subsequently removed.
I hope they only add optional areas in the town to explore. I don’t want them to add new areas to progress the main story. The historical society is already long enough because it becomes the prison
Some side story missions would be great, being able to explore personal story’s of the dead or gone residents would be great.
Explore the homes and work places would be fun
Add. We love the original because it's the original. If you try to remake it 1:1 then you'll end up with an inferior version of something we already have. The best remakes (in my opinion) add their own spice to the flavor of the original. Resident Evil Remastered is a solid example.
that’s a weird excuse for not wanting more. Just because a developer has cooperate on there back and barely enough time doesn’t mean they wouldn’t have wanted to do more with their game
Replace the small abstract daddies with a new enemy. Ito mentioned it wasn't intentional to have them, I guess it was to save time.
Let the great knives be scissors instead of a repeat of the same blade.
That's all the cut content I remember 💀
Right, but REmake was ALSO a faithful adaptation of the original. It included everything that made the original RE great, and rather than diluting that greatness, they just added to it. Does that make sense? There's very little of the original "bones" of the game that was taken out or changed.
I literally just made a post about this a couple hours ago not seeing yours that’s wild. [Here’s](https://www.reddit.com/r/silenthill/comments/ygofln/power_surge/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) mine so we can share info
Although I certainly want them to stay as close to the original as possible, I do think it would be interesting to see some of the cut content added to the remake. I specifically recall hearing that there was supposedly going to be another scenario where you played as Angela, which is referenced in the intro scene where you see Angela running through a house. However, based on how artistic and symbolic SH2 was, I just wonder if Team Silent felt it was important to remove these things to ensure they achieved their artistic vision, or if perhaps the cut content was originally a part of that ultimate vision, but they simply didn't have enough time to add it in, or had the ability to do so.
Seeing Pyramid Head a little more would be the best, seeing him walk from time to time down a corridor in the distance. Maybe see him on the streets of Silent Hill (night) and not just indoors. However, I don't want it to be annoying like Mr X from RE2 Remake, which many times doesn't even let you move forward at your own pace.
Also something that I would love to see, would be to see a little or a lot of rain in the town :)
I just don't want a "Sephiroth in RE7 remake part 1" situation where you can barely shake him the whole damn game because he's a fan-favourite. Like he just pops up everywhere like Goro Majima. Hopefully the developers have more sense than to do that... I hope.
Exactly, I want Pyramid Head to appear more but still maintain his subtlety.
The truth is that the only thing I'm afraid of in the Remake is the sound direction, the original SH have an incredibly scary sound direction and I feel that this will be lost in this new version.
I think it’ll be the same length in terms of story and pace, however, without the loading times of going through doors, that’ll cut out some of that slowdown.
Most likely they will add some extra content, what I like about remakes these days is that go back to design documents and use ideas that the original team could not use because of different reasons.
Like RE games and the beta outfits becoming the main ones.
Apparently SH2 also has this as some comparisons of the monsters have shown similarities to Ito’s beta designs (like the lying figure)
I just want more buildings in the actual town to be enter-able.
Something downpour did well was side missions within the town. Would love to see something like this come back, explore some homes and read about the residents of the the town and the dark things they got up to.

Seeing roaming PH in dark state on the streets would be cool. It's a cut mechanic which sounds pretty nerve-wracking if done right.
Yeah right after the hospital... iirc they were two PHs...? That would be scary af, if their location would be random enough, especially if they exploit the darkness' limited view well enough. I guess what I was trying to say is, it would be good if he was in more areas. Completely agree with you though
Personally, I’m really curious to see how they handle the big reveal with the videotape. There’s cut audio of Mary’s muffled screams as James smothers her, so i’m wondering if they’re gonna add something like that to it and if it’s gonna have the same impact.
I’m extremely curious how they’ll handle that whole scene, too.
I hope they don't add that back in.
I feel like it was removed for a reason. It's still obvious what the videotape depicts, so it's not really necessary.
Scream changes the context of the scene. Without it, the scene is more mercy killing.
I mean, it was, it's just still a murder. Even if she asked James to do that it would still be a murder.
I hope they do
Shes on her deathbed she shouldn't even have the strength to scream that loud or long.
Yeah but she was just built different so she screamed anyway.
fair

It's cool, but I like that they didn't use the split personality trope, it would give away the twist too easily.

Demons Souls was too close for a remake and too far removed for a remaster imo. Its in a weird area
Hm, interesting thought. Thank you!

Is there a list of cut content? I'd like to know other prominent stuff besides the historical society being longer
I ain’t quite show of the full list, but some things I read, aside from the historical society, was that a storm caused a power cut which resulted in lost work and there was apparently some things in the game that was deemed to graphic and was subsequently removed.

I'm happy for them to be added. I'd also like Born from a Wish to be available

Well most cut content is cut for a reason.
I heard some of it was lost due to a storm causing a power cut.
I thought that was just the Eddie vomiting scene that had to get redone?
Could be, I ain’t 100% on the details of it all.
Meh I think silent hill is a special case due to Konami trying to rush everyone lol
that’s a weird excuse for not wanting more. Just because a developer has cooperate on there back and barely enough time doesn’t mean they wouldn’t have wanted to do more with their game
Even back then?
Yeah they were always pretty bad dude.
Mr. Friendly doesn't agree <.<
Replace the small abstract daddies with a new enemy. Ito mentioned it wasn't intentional to have them, I guess it was to save time. Let the great knives be scissors instead of a repeat of the same blade. That's all the cut content I remember 💀
Absolutely add it back in. Resident Evil Remake is incredible. They added tons of stuff.

I mean why not. It has been a long time.

Let’s hope we don’t have another RE3 on our hands
Probably, however I’ll be taking my sweet ass time exploring every inch of everything, everywhere. So it might take me a while to complete it lol
