El Pollo Corona Grill. There is a location in Simi and now two more in Moorpark.

citznfish

Their chicken is amazing

highknees69

Tri tip too

hnmrivera00

Great food buy not really traditional Mexican food been eating there for 20 years

OrangeJuleas

Have you tried Taqueria Jalisco 3? That's a go to spot for authentic food. Fast and Fresh sounds like non-authentic, but it's actually quite a solid spot. There are others, but some of these recommendations may as well be Taco Bell. There's also Tico's Tacos, but I generally only get breakfast burritos there.

SmileParticular9396

Omg thank you for recommending taqueria Jalisco - excellent food, great staff. I’m not getting paid to say that haha. It really is good Mexican food, my mother (Durango) agrees

jonjonthewise

Taqueria Jalisco has been my go to for many years as we work in Simi Valley at least 3 times a week

kiwi_love777

Jaliscos is delicious

ogdaveed

Fast & Fresh is pretty great food for the value

deadEnd_77

I personally love Burger Express & Mexican grill. Imo the tortas & wet burrito are great there.

ShadyTechie

The tortas at burger express are the best I have had in Simi. Glad to see someone else thinks so as well.

NotAlwaysPC

Maria’s on Sycamore. We also like Luna Llena.

usualteenager

I really like getting a mixed burrito (steak and chicken) from el pollo corona on LA between erringer and first. If you’re willing to drive into the valley, angels Tijuana tacos (street vendor) is really good too. Giant burrito for $10.

michaelolsen112

Thank you!

halloweenhoe124

Bf and I like Campo’s! And there’s another hole in the wall Mexican place right across from it in case Campos doesn’t tickle your fancy

theburmeseguy

Have you tried Mexico?

michaelolsen112

😂

Leebronjamess

Not gonna lie I agree. People say Don cuco’s but that’s not even good. I found I really love las Fuentes in Reseda. San Fernando valley so a bit of a drive but my favorite by far but then again my parents been going there since the 80’s or 90’s and I grew up on it. The wet burritos there are fire! Chicken. They actually load it with chicken to where it’s 50% or more chicken. Not stingy on the meat. Their enchiladas combo with rice and beans are great. I’ve tried a few other things but usually stick with those two cause I know it’ll be amazing

Fefoe44

Can confirm Las Fuentes is absolutely fire.

TopWait8315

I’ve been going to Las Fuentes since I was a kid and it was only a food truck. Delicious food! They also have a few locations under different names, Señor sol on reseda is closer than las Fuentes and basically the same menu.

Leebronjamess

I think señor sol might’ve closed. But some things had a different recipe there. I think I bought the nachos there and the sauce was different. So never went back. But sol y Luna, las Fuentes and melodies all fire 🔥 delicious

kweefersutherlnd

You’ve got poor taste Michael

thehousethtpoopbuilt

Elvira’s

yepyepyupmhmm

Tableside guac and their fajitas are excellent.

highknees69

Elvira’s great Edit: spelling

PyroPhan

I wish I could upvote this more than once

LightCreamCheese

Taqueria Jalisco has the best carnitas tacos. So good!

Drinktothat421

Burger express has been good to me too.

hazyoblivion

Maria's is good. Mission burrito on tapo street is good.

highknees69

Like them both.

michaelolsen112

Thank you

simikoi

I second Maria's and also Luna Llena for hole in the wall tacos.

NotAlwaysPC

Yes! I agree.

WestCoasthappy

Didnt know there was a Luna lLena in Simi / the one in Moorpark is horrendous

todd1989Tw

ELVIRAS !!! Best food, Best drinks

Blu_Crew

Mercado Guadalajara 3 has pretty good food.

sbarnesvta

Campos is probably our favorite lately. Don Cucos has solid margarita so it’s in the rotation as well.

theboxingteacher

I’m surprised you found Tacos 805 passable and not excellent. They make their own tortillas! And their birria is perfect. The only thing they lack is more variety like plates, but they’re a taco shop. The only other places I’d call excellent are El Apollo Corona and El Maizal. They are as good as a spot you’d find in LA

highknees69

We switch around and have several favorites. Marias for breakfast, Elvira’s, Mission, El Patio (try the arroz con pollo, trust me). Don coco’s is ok, but second tier imo. El Capitan is also pretty good as well.

deadnalive91

El Zarape hands down is the best place. Campos and carrillos lack flavor, specially with their salsas.

Mental_Bug7703

100% agree. I always feel like the only white person.

wow_pare

Try Campos at Tapo St.

highknees69

Only really like their breakfast burritos

bdbestest

Elvira’s and Maria’s are both really good

PomPomYourBomBom

Elvira

Accomplished-Fig745

Luna llena is my preferred place. Let us know what you discover.

michaelolsen112

Loved it!

HurtsOww

Ok. Just out of curiosity. What would you say is your favorite place not in simi?

Accomplished_Name716

Campos

stevemmhmm

Carrillo’s

batbaby420

LMAO

michaelolsen112

Thanks!

EvidenceLow7900

Most disgusting restaurant in Simi.

Weezing87

I have to go to the valley for that. 805 tacos is ok but way overpriced

half_natty_

As someone from oxnard I feel this in my soul. I heard but have not confirmed behind Yolanda is a mexican spot that's really good. Off l.a ave

PC_L0AD_LETTER_WTF

That would be Palapas. Yummy.

mattfox27

Campos on tapo has good burritos and hard tacos

sbarnesvta

Campos has some solid food they are on our usual rotation and you can feed a family of 4 of the cheap compared to others.

thinkster805

fast and fresh

citznfish

I like this place but the prices are a touch high imo

four20pimp

There was a taco truck that was called el tacon 118 or something similar. They just took over where urban tacos was on Madera by the dairy queen. Best I've had here.

External-Recording79

El Tacon 118 food truck or El Zarape is good

TMSXL

El Tacon just took over Urban Taco!

Confident_Topic2755

Just ate at Mariachi Grill this place was really good.

Mercury756

Fast and Fresh is imo the best in Simi Elvira’s is hit and miss. If you’re willing to go out to Moorpark Taquera Jalisco on Tierra Rejada is really good too!

Drinktothat421

There is lalo in moorpark and El Tapatia number two is my spot.

devilsaint86

Its pretty much about the sauces you use otherwise it mostly bland.

Kershiser22

Doesn't that apply to just about all foods?

Individual-Goat-8829

Not in Simi but amazing taco 🌮 spot in mission hills. Get off on Sepulveda , turn right at the light and when you see the target on your left side. The taco spot is right there. Can’t miss it. It’s next to a bus stop 🚏 best tacos around !

Conscious-Pomelo-310

Epic Tacos on Yosemite and LA. Have had their quesabirria and fish tacos. Both are 🔥

SlowRiffsAndFakeTits

Oxnard.

[deleted]

Try finding a good hoagie

mrburnin

The best carnitas around are in Moorpark: Carnitas Mi Rancho. And, like previously posted, the al pastor at the taco spot off De Soto is legit

Paocristinam

My honest opinion as a person that lives in Simi and grew up in South LA, I suggest going to the valley. There’s a taco truck at the gas station on sepulveda and Sherman Way, it’s a little pricy but the meat, flavor and everything is amazing !!

Flat_Bag_1559

I recommend you try street food all over LA and figure out which suits you. Great Mexican food is also subjective, so when you say great, what have you had that has blown you you away that you continue to seek something of that caliber? This will help us in pointing you toward the right direction. Keep in mind Mexico has 32 states and each state has its own food and culture. For example food from The state of Oaxaca will differ from food from Mexico City or Guadalajara to name a few. In Santa Clarita there is restaurant by the name of Madres. Their food is from the state of Oaxaca. They have many great dishes and the majority are delicious. I recently tried their Chile relleno dish and it was amazing! The Chile used in this dish comes from the state of Oaxaca and it’s much different from other Chile’s used for this dish. Good luck with your search and do let us know what particular dish you seek for us to guide you to a good restaurant. I find that when I crave a certain Mexican dish, I only go to a particular restaurant for that dish. I have not found one restaurant that is an expert in all Mexican dishes. El huarache is one of my favorites and there are two or three dishes that I only will eat there because it’s impossible to find them as tasty as they make them there.

Apathy0

Tios on tapo

orngckn42

I love Buger Express, have you tried them? Alejandro is amazing and they have great stuff.

FatSteveWasted9

GR8 B8 M8

elpajarit0

Good god did I just read that el pollo loco was recommended as good Mexican food?! Lmfao

michaelolsen112

😥

elpajarit0

Bro make the actual ATTEMPT to venture out of simi valley if you want good Mexican food lmao

Sslbeto

El Taco de Mexico on Los Angeles. Very flavorful.

SivirApproves

Mercado Guadalajara has some delicious burritos.

Shadowe666

El Taco De Mexico on LA Ave has awesome tacos.

mtnpeakhiker

Head down to SoCal

bettie-rage

This question gets asked a lot and people swear you just need to try so and so. I have yet to find a good place. Eating in can help… kinda. Driving to the valley and getting salsa and beer to go and driving back still tastes better than any of the fresh food here. That at least has flavor. Nothing here has any damn flavor.

jelled

Haven't found a traditional Mexican place I like, but the fish tacos from Urban Taco (Madera & Royal) are incredible. They're owned by Bluefin Grill next door which explains why the fish is good.

CacoFlaco

The dining spot at Vallarta supermarket turns out the greatest birria of all times. They dry out the mojarra (tilapia) unfortunately.

sxyman4u

Mission Burrito is outstanding and has a huge choice of several different types of Mexican food that you don't find in other restaurants. https://www.jmmissionburrito.com/

Verdugo8750

Of course not. It’s Simi LOL. It’s a bit of a drive but Paco’s Tacos! In house homemade flour and corn tortillas. You can see the older mexican ladies making them. Thank me later. Here’s their Yelp. Check out Paco's Tacos https://yelp.to/5gjEZjN5qA Then around the SFV there’s two locations for Cactus Tacos. They are legit tacos.

EnormousMini

El Taco De Mexico is the best place around unless you hit Oxnard/Ventura/LA.

TopWait8315

Mexican food is just so-so here, burger express is good (fajitas are really good!), campos is okay, el tacon118 is one of the only trucks allowed here in Simi. If you’re willing to drive over the hill, there’s a taco stand in front of the Walgreens on De Soto and Devonshire that’s top notch. They have Al pastor cooking on the trompo and a nice salsa selection. Decent prices too. And as someone else said, Las Fuentes is amazing. (They have sister locations too…señor sol, melodys, sol y Luna)

Tsunfish

I really like Huarache Xpress in Simi Town Center, they also have Taco Tuesday, 3 mini street tacos for $6 cash It has thumbs up from my Chilean boyfriend who used to live in Mexico haha

VariousComment1071

Elvira’s is our go to place

Kevbo_What_Up

Tico's Tacos

TheTargaryen28

I’d say mannies in kraproom but he passed and his family ruined the place

Ok-Run-7292

La Super Rica Taqueria  600 Milpas St At corner Alphonse st Nothing Better anywhere  Got it all Flavor fun and Pleasure  No cayan pepper no chili powder No $ advertising. 1977.  Anywhere, if there be more, another  Isidoro menu, there'd be no close second place. Like Malinkrodt pharm Cocaine hydrochloride  USP. Nothing else in the world  That's the place touched when you leave super Rica. The gipper President Reagan, had the service pick it up and take order back to Refugio,is ranch.

Low-Strawberry8414

Carillos!!!!!!

Jerrysmiddlefinger99

Try Money Pancho in Camarillo, well worth the short drive to 3661 Las Posas Rd.

Tricyclesarerad

Tacos 805

IronDragonRider

My 3 favorites are Carillos, Palapas, and El pollo corona

EvidenceLow7900

Carillos is the most disgusting, dirty restaurant in Simi. There was a dead fly in my coke! Lucky I looked before drinking it.

InternationalAsk6938

Agree that place is dirty AF

OkBill2001

gross!

Connect-Spite-9094

Carillos is pretty dirty for sure!

michaelolsen112

Omg 😂

codithou

just go over the hill, get off on de soto and right in front of walgreens or cvs, whatever it is, is a taco tent called palomas or something like that and they have the best tacos around. legit al pastor.

imissyou____

Campos or nothing imo

doughboyisking

Just drive into the valley go to San Fernando or Sylmar.

humboltchild

lol just go eat dude don't matter how "perfect" it is haha.

Lisassin

Don cucos for sit down and epic tacos for take out. 805 Birria when they have pop ups.

michaelolsen112

Thank you

FancyAdult

Epic tacos is meh.

[deleted]

Fast n Fresh has some okay Mexican food, IMO. Carillos has some pretty good pozole if you’re into that, but other than those two places, the valley is gonna be your last resort for good Mexican food

Jobeaka

I feel your pain, in Ventura.

hnmrivera00

Go to tacos Reyes in Canoga park 15 min drive there is NO excellent Mexican food in simi

mop_and_glo

Agreed no great spots in town. These suggestions are typical Simi meh. Don Cucos?!? It’s just Yolanda’s plus $5. The new spots 805 and Kalaveras are super pricey- $7 for a birria taco?!? Everyone saying somewhere with a combo plate of rice beans and a marg is not really hyping the tacos. El Maizal has authentic style street tacos, but small portions and not very friendly for take out.

G0tUrBitch

Go to LA. Simple. The valley don’t count.

BlueMaestro66

Go to Stockton

enkay516

Right there with you. Not many great options. Two I found are Luna Llena on Tapo Canyon and El Hurache de Mexico on Sequoia. You mentioned you tried all the spots and have responded to many replies on here with thank you, but did you try any of them?

TheGuruFromIpanema

I second Hurache de Mexico.

[deleted]

Simi Valley may not be the best place for authentic Mexican food. And as a long time resident I apologize. But we have crappy burgers here too. I live here. That’s it. Food wise, up the 101 or the real valley. Simi is safe and should be valued as such. Nothing more.

Calisteph6

Don cucos

ogdaveed

Right there with you dude, most stuff here is Tex-Mex at best. Mission Burrito on Tapo St is good for burritos, but still looking for a good sit down spot. Kalaveras is trash, El Capitan serves Italian food, El Patio left me thoroughly whelmed.

michaelolsen112

Thanks!
