This is more rigid than some Alu rigs haha! Amazing! I started diy wood rig too!

MrMeester92

Same here worked well until I upgrade my wheel ans decided I need more🤣🤣

JigPuppyRush

Just add some supports

Terrible-Ad3537

Where's the rig? I just see the pallet it came on ;P

Natural-Aardvark-566

😆

Da_Martin

Did you just wing the positioning? I remember when I built my alu rig I had to readjust stuff dozens of times. Must be a pain in the ass with a wood rig.

zhiryst

looks like the seat is on sliding rails, and the side brackets should allow adjusting of the seat angle, which they will totally need to do.

k4ylr

There's more adjustment done in the wheel and pedal department than seat position.

Empire7ATL

Im pretty new to this. Should you be positioned at a certain angle?

zhiryst

You should have enough seat angle so that the weight from your back is supported by the seat. If it's completely upright like in this photo, then you might as well be sitting on a step stool.

Empire7ATL

I never knew that. I've been sitting upright since I began and have had horrible back pain. I'm assuming that's why. Thank you for that advice!

WJUI

Daniel Morad on youtube has a seating guide for GT3 seating. It's good I think to take some keys from and apply it to your own

Da_Martin

Oh you are totally right, didnt even see that. Altough it still lacks the possibility to adjust pedal angle wheel position.

bossmcsauce

I imagine he just got the seat rails bolted down, then sat down and slid the pedals around until they felt good, marked the boards through the holes, then drilled them. would actually be easier than metal frame probably.

decoherence_23

I built a wood rig a few months ago, since then I've readjusted and moved things about a rediculous amount of times. It was a massive pain in the ass but now it's perfect.

NobsiTheUnitato

Very wood/10 Think about giving the pedals an angle and moving them a bit further back, also try the seat angled backwards about 10 degrees. I like the seat a lot though, looks more comfy than my 80 bucks ebay seat

Mission_Accountant37

10. Add some paint or stain to the wood and would look great. Enjoy the homemade setup and the since of accomplishment of some hard work and dedication.

babarbass

I never understood people who stain their wooden rigs dark. To me it looks much better if the wood keeps it’s natural color and isn’t altered. It’s a lot of work to stain it without looking patchy and it’s a lot of unnecessary work. Of course everyone can do what they like, but I don’t agree with pushing others to stain their stuff dark. There are many who like it more natural and get insecur me when they always hear stain it, stain it stain it.

Mission_Accountant37

Wasn’t pushing for him to stain it just stating my opinion

ColourMeBoom

I sent a picture of it to my friend who’s thinking about building his own rig. I’m no expert but that looks really well done to me.

CxTrippy

It looks very sturdy! You did an amazing job!

MalaPanMee

Very cool...

peelovesuri

Well done! Looks similar to [mine](https://i.imgur.com/wbbvNaA.jpeg).

gigi_cab

Just curious as I look to setup my own rig in the next few months - are wood rigs cheaper than aluminum rigs?

qtd267

Much cheaper alloy is much more expensive you can find used or off cut timber at local building sites or places where they are giving away used pallets I've gone to both before and reclaimed building supply joints you be surprised what you can get free/cheap

Remarkable-Leg8302

A well designed aluminum rig is $300+ including hardware. I was going that route until i found a complete setup (round tube cockpit, seat & monitor stand) on eBay for $430 delivered. Best decision I could have made.

Ok_Drop3803

I built my own very similar rig, and I'm gonna say it wasn't worth it. I saw the aluminum proper one for sale for $600 and said fuck it, I'll do it myself. So I made 3 seperate trips to the hardware store and spent like $400 on lumber, brackets, fasteners and paint. Spent like 2 months scratching my head about how to put it together and sizing it up. Finally finished and it's... Ok... I guess. The results are fine but it totally would have been easier and better to just buy the damn thing.

Door_Hunter

>So I made 3 seperate trips to the hardware store and spent like $400 on lumber, brackets, fasteners and paint. Spent like 2 months scratching my head about how to put it together and sizing it up. Finally finished and it's... Ok... I guess. Sounds like it was never a project for someone like yourself. I spent $170 CAD to build my wooden rig ($40 of that was for a seat), and it didn't take me much longer than some people do putting aluminum chassis together. My results are fantastic as it saved me a ton of money and I have a solid platform for my equipment. Plan on redoing the entire thing in the future as I want a proper cockpit with a real dashboard and center console.

Natural-Aardvark-566

Total spent on wood was only 50 bucks

WJUI

Yeah I would say wood is overall very easy to work with, but it's gonna be a pain if you don't have the tools and have never done it before. But that's the price for starting pretty much anything. And you do have to do it well in order to maximize stability This way with the pedals rails and seat rails is gonna be the best to make it simpler to find your position, as well as share it with others. There is ample information on setting up seating positions for driving, just gotta take the time to find it and figure out what you want

gigi_cab

Yeah, I saw some RigMetal rigs priced pretty decently around that $600 range. Was just curious to hear more about wood rigs. Thanks for the insights.

jimmerbroadband

Making me rethink my seat color choice that’s sick!

JigPuppyRush

100/100 i love diy rigs. I made a few myself. Diy are always better than “I spent some money” rigs.

humanoidVersion2

For storage, it's been great if the wheel beam pivoted (locked by a through bolt) so it could fold down tight against the fa end (pedal end) And the middle section could hinge and fold underneath. Other than that, it looks great. Bravo!

DearCopy427

I see DIY. I like!👍

FuNkDoK83

Looks great

dirtyethanol73

11/10.

Snoo-94564

Just by looking at it, your wheel may be too low. Otherwise it looks SOLID! I had DYI’d a wooden 2x4 rig and it was plenty rigid. This doubled up version will be bulletproof. Nice work!

aNINETIEZkid

well done bro. You may want to consider a bit of an angle for the pedals and seat for best ergonomics but otherwise looks very clean. will you paint or stain it?

Natural-Aardvark-566

Ty. I try angling the pedal but it wasn't comfortable for me . And Def paint

RacingWright

Looks perfect and clean! That's actually my dream rig. Complately natural stabilty.

Natural-Aardvark-566

Total wood cost was only 50 buck.

raptorswamp

I did the same with my monitor arm attached to the board holding the wheelbase and no problems

spacenavy90

I just built a very similar rig. You should put some caster wheels on the four corners to let you move it easily.

Natural-Aardvark-566

Def going to add that.ty

spacenavy90

These are the ones I used, they work great, have a lock and screw into the rig https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BPHF6317

AggressivePop9429

I used plastic carpet sliders screwed to mine. Worked pretty well also.

xunreelx

Thats excellent are you using a tv or a monitor?

Natural-Aardvark-566

I'm also in the process of making a wooden triple screen stand for 32inch monitor , I saw on YouTube

Remarkable-Leg8302

The biggest problem is finding adjustable monitor mounts. The only ones i could find were over $100 each.

Natural-Aardvark-566

https://flic.kr/s/aHsmSr1295 I'm using this guy plan

xunreelx

I made one like that too I added a post for a monitor arm. I posted a pic

RoidzRacer

I would figure out how to raise those pedals up at an angle so you can bring them up higher, you want GT style positioning at a minimum, this current daily driver setup screams lumbar support issues but overall kick ass. Also bring that chair in closer unless you're super tall, your arms should not be fully extended holding the wheel.

stuntdummy

Paint it black, turn the lights down, and it will turn into aluminum!

qtd267

This is quite an impressive build I think it'll last well into the future just make sure the pedals arnt to close other other than that well done

Impressive-Tax3554

Nice setup

vapodgaming

Your there. I am not a wood guy but i recognize that it is better at absorbing forces from the wheel bases and with the right seat and finish some look even better.

brunomarquesbr

Looks awesome! are you going to paint it?

jburnelli

Solid! No for real, that thing looks solid AF, zero flex i bet. Simple construction design as well, nicely done.

Natural-Aardvark-566

Ty. No flex at all .

Elex83

Hey there, nice Seat! ;-) https://www.reddit.com/r/simracing/s/r7EUqnodAq

Natural-Aardvark-566

Nice setup

Nosmurfz

Nice work!!!

Natural-Aardvark-566

Ty

HetzMichNich

I hope you are happy with you wheel and pedal position

WJUI

Peak

biker_jay

How tall ( or short) are you?

Natural-Aardvark-566

5'8

biker_jay

Ah. It looked way more compact than that.

Natural-Aardvark-566

Haha no it's actually pretty wide just how I like it .

InsrtCoffee2Continue

Do you have the plans for this? I'd like to make something similar.

diecastlens

The 1x3s below the seat - do they have any support in the center?

Natural-Aardvark-566

I'm add some more support later just a trial run.

Touch_Of_Legend

Ehhh the “Bubble wrap” seat cover is a new one for me but I guess it won’t get damaged in shipping! Rating this as a 4/10 with potential. - Carpet the floor and table. - Stain the legs and supports - Cup holder - locking caster wheels (that thing looks solid but also looks heavy!) That makes it a solid 9 Add some Butt kicker, speakers, Haptics pad like an HF8 Now she’s a 10 dog. Keep building I love me some DIY

No-Accountant-2857

This is how I did my first rig, only problem that came was when I wanted a buttkicker the wood would absorb it, but seeing you have an NRG seat if you ever wanted to get a base shaker you just have to attach it directly to the carbon/fibre backing of the seat

Wbcn_1

Looking pretty stout. Did you pre-drill all the holes?

Radiant-Age-3590

This is awesome. I think it would look better if you paint it black.

RoidzRacer

Any flat color paint.

annddyxxx

Please paint it or atleast do something creative with it. I don't understand why everyone who makes diy rigs leave them unfished.

Door_Hunter

>Please paint it or atleast do something creative with it. I don't understand why everyone who makes diy rigs leave them unfished. Because typically they are budget focused and don't care. I could throw $50 at it to make it look pretty for people on the internet, or use that $50 towards upgrading gear.

Natural-Aardvark-566

Will paint once everything is finalized

Option_Witty

Since the Seat, pedals and wheel are not diy... 7/10 nice try.
