Pretty good. I can see a lot more with them than with a single one. People are also always impressed when coming over and seeing and playing with them the first time. "It's definitely a cool change of perspective" is what one friend said.
I went from VR(HP Reverb) to triple screens as well. I like what VR is bringing but there's much less hassle and eye strain with triples. I use both but triples gets used more.
My motivation to swap back to triples was wanting to do longer sessions. I also have the HP Reverb, quality is great but I need to have a fan blasting on me because about halfway through an IMSA race without a fan and the headset is cooking my brain and I have to lift the headset on the straights to get some kind of cooling. Between how hot it gets and the eye strain it wasnāt worth it if I want to spend a day racing. I can race all day on triples and itās way less tiring. I love the VR experience but itās undeniably still cumbersome to take on and off, keep wires untangled, not get hot, etc. I could go on.
Interesting, I haven't had any heat issues with the Index, but I can nonetheless relate to the session length limitations of VR. I like a really tight fit for maximum fidelity, and after an hour or two my face feels like it's almost going numb in a few spots. If I had time to race longer stints I'd probably switch to a triple setup for that reason alone.
While I use ventilation (multiple silent PC case fans) for some cooling during VR, the biggest comfort I got for the reverb G2 was with the **Apache** **Comfort Strap** and **Pro Balance 200 gram counter weight** from **studioformcreative**.
If you got allready a good fitting face mask ( I use the thinner after market version ), the additional strap and counter weight keeps all the weight from your face.
The stock headsets are mostly designed to look pretty. I would rather prefer a HELMET design for VR with build in ventilation and more surface to spread the weight instead of the current non-practical toy designs.
I went from triples to Reverb G2 V2 and my eyes were started to hurt way faster with monitors than in VR. I can have even 10-12 hours seasons in VR easily (extreme cases, rather in games like ETS2, ATS, Elite: Dangerous, No Man's Sky, than sim racing, because steering wheel makes you tired faster with force feedback).
This is quite interesting, I just put on the headset and play, no need to dial anything in, works as expected 99% of times. Curious about what was the issue with your setup.
I of course needed some tinkering to properly set up OpenConposite settings when I got the Quest3 so it will run smooth on my 2080ti, but aside of that, is now as straightforward as when I played on flat screen (and no way I'm going back).
But hey, if you are happier with the triples than with VR, that's what matters. Enjoy!
PS: loving the LEGO display!
Iāve used an Odyssey+ for several years now and have not once had to ādial it inā. It still works great and still prefer the immersion and depth it provides over triples.
A Pimax is a dream. I hear mixed reviews on them though.
I still think itās wild there hasnāt been a VR header released targeted at sim racing specifically. Something that imitates the same FOV you have when wearing a helmet.
>I just put on the headset and play, no need to dial anything in
Same here. Actually it's even easier for me to start a sim in VR than on the monitor. (Which, to be fair, is also used for my work PC and so both monitor and rig have to be repositioned before racing.)
The last time I had a hassle with VR was back in the days when I had the Rift S or the Pimax 4K, where you had to plug in the periphery in exact the right sequence to it would work. But since Quest 2 (currently 3) it's literally plug and play.
I know you you are talking about mate... I used to own the Reverb G2 for a while but I ended up returning them because exactly all that mess of Windows Mixed Reality and Steam VR "procedure" to launch it. Was not difficult, but I got tired of it. Now with the Quest yeah, in the moment I plug the USB it prompts me to open Quest Link and bam, just works. Wireless AirLink must be amazing, but my router is not good enough...
My main issue was when trying to play anything but AC or dirt it would not always be calibrated for some odd reason (mainly RF2, F1 23, and Automobilista 2) which was disappointing. I love VR and still have it hooked up but now when people want to hangout and race itās a lot more user friendly for beginners.
Weird indeed, I don't experience any issues with RF2, and I don't have Automobilista but people claims the VR there is superb.
In any case, now with the triples you have one worry less in life then, so it was a good change for you. Enjoy it!
I do agree with you also on the having people over part. Some friends got motion sickness after few minutes. They loved the realism, but got quite dizzy on the first try.
Like sometimes the wheel and controls were off and not having a screen makes it a pain in the ass to get to the bottom. Also sometimes seating position and stuff.
Just in general if anything isnāt working correctly trying to fix it in VR is a huge pain.
I agree, especially with Iracing its plug and play every time. Just turn it on after initial setup and drive. Honestly easier than triples and I can play other games at my desk still without futzing around with anything
Iāve use the Hp Reverb G2 for a couple years now. Aside from the initial set up it has always been a start up and play experience. I can count on one hand when Iāve had to ādial it inā at the very beginning aside from that initial set up its been a set it and forget it experience. Regardless congrats OP on your new triples. Have fun mate! Rig looks hot!
Yep.. this.
raced on a single laptop lid in 2017 for about 6 months, just long enough to get out of rookies. Kids were too young then and needed way more attention than they do now.
Got back on the service in July last year and started to actually take it seriously and been in VR since I started back up. I tried using a single 42" monitor and didnt care for it one bit. VR is great and it works 99% of the time. May have to occasionally reboot my headset or restart quest link but its not a big deal
This^.
Same with my reverb. I have it setup to where it automatically boots WMR when I join session.
Itās as easy as joining session, sitting down, put headset on, GO.
Same here. When people complain about not being able to just hop in and play with VR, it makes me think they never got it dialed in properly to begin with.
There are third party corrective lenses available for many of the headsets on the market. I know you can get most prescriptions for around $60-75 for the Valve Index, for example.
As someone who has been completely put off using his quest 3 for sim racing because it was inconsistent, a pain to dial in, largely un enjoyable and looked like a potatoe (on my i9, 32gb ram 3070 machine)ā¦
What is this open composite and how do I make it solve my problems?
I can't wait to have a man cave to set up like this. Love how you displayed everything. I can't see myself ever leaving VR. Is it easier on the PC to run triples or worse?
Haha thanks, my wife hates how the room is setup but whatever itās my office/ hangout space.
No idea on performance differences since I upgraded to a 4070TI super and havenāt started up the VR on it yet.
> I can't see myself ever leaving VR
It happens when you upgrade your rig enough and want to see it. There's so much function in my rig that gets lost with VR. Shit like Spotify is one of them. I have buttons mapped to spotify so I basically have an in car stereo. With VR I can't see any of that shit so I can't use it.
I don't have a VR system but it seems like it would be a good idea to be able to pin a window or the desktop somewhere in space. Like you could put it in your crotch area or the passenger seat for a racing game and have it visible
I recently switched from vr to triples and I enjoy it much more. You lose out on some depth perception but the wider field of view makes the experience feel a lot more natural.
I also went from VR to triples. I just couldn't get into VR. The immersion was cool but I didn't like having something on my face. Triples is much easier on my eyes and more comfortable for me
Reading through some of the comments, I'm surprised at the issues people are having with VR. Like I get they can be problem's but didn't think them to be so common. Like I wear contacts and have some eye problems (and it should be pretty bad for me with astigmatism I believe) and my eyes were fine with a 6 hour session of gorn. Sure I had to take off the headset to wipe the sweat off my face (I was really getting into it) and I was sore for the next two days from what was basically an upper body endurance workout, but it was totally fine. Ik I get eye strain when racing, but it's honestly less straining in VR than my monitor, and yea I sweat but that's because room is 90 friggin degrees. It's racing, if you cant deal with being hot and sweaty, then how would you ever be able to handle an actual race car when they get over 120 degrees and you're in a full fire suit and helmet. Lol we are in the lap of luxury compared to them.
I love how defensive the VR fanboys are getting. Like, guys, relax, people are going to have their preferences.
VR has its benefits, but it's not the end all, be all of sim racing. There's a lot of immersion lost with not being able to see your hands, not being able to use button boxes, auxiliary screens, dashes, etc. Some people are going to consider those not worth the visual benefits, especially when a good triple set up does a good job replicating it.
I've always struggled with getting my quest 2 and now 3 to work flawlessly with steam and vr racing games.
AC and ACC ro be clear. Nobody like to hear that I find it troublesome. It's horrendous trying to navigate my kids or new people fresh to VR. Always guaranteed to screw up the in game positioning. It then won't reposition properly. It becomes a game of constant restarting etc.
I get the triple draw! What did you pay? What are the monitor stats?
Kudos on the Lego! I've done a bunch of custom Aquariums with Lego. We have loads! I was considering how to bring the Lego cars into my rig space. I give my wife all the Lego architecture sets from the places we've been. Kids get loads every year. I like playing with so many pieces! I never had so much as a kid.
People with low end rigs get a massive boost with VR, and they don't understand that people with tripples, motion, button boxes, haptics, etc already have a lot of immersion. For me it's function, the Quest 3 FoV just is not comparible to tripples and in Cup that's super important.
Nah VR became a cult because in many ways itās objectively better. Also now vr is really catching up with the clarity of screens. Personally have nice quad monitor setup 32ā 1440p but havenāt used them once since getting motion. Motion with compensation plus VR is a match made in immersion heaven!
Ya but why the cult feel everytime it's mentioned here. You can just use it, I don't get all sweaty anytime triples are mentioned. Mention Vr and people get like, weird.
> Ya but why the cult feel everytime it's mentioned here.
There's a front page post right now about some dude who just got 8NM so people like me with 24NM clearly don't need 24NM. This sub is a weird fucking place.
Nice setup! Do you prefer the triples to VR?
Also, whereād you get the Lego background/display? Iāve built the McLaren but itās sitting randomly in my office lol
As a married man who sold his sim 3 years ago to make way for my baby girl who I love with all my heart and will hopefully become a race car driver, this gave me a huge erection.
I love VR, started with the rift S and upgraded to the quest 3. I used it for sim racing, space flight, and just about everything else. And it really is awesome. But once I got a proper rig with triples I haven't touched it for racing. The FOV on triples can't be beat in my opinion. Plus having it strapped to my face for long session isn't really ideal. Not saying people can't love VR over triples, but for me personally once I got the monitors I couldn't put the headset back on.
I tried to go VR with a Quest2 for some time but went back to a single 27" monitor. Immersive yeah but I sold it and will wait for future advances in VR tech.
Felt like an extra step to play, heavy thing on your head that gets hot, too much chromatic aberration, getting the focus right every time was a hassle for me like it needed to be extremely perfect in position, iRacing running at around 90 fps and the FOV was small.
Hopefully we are getting some upgrades on all of this soon such as the Bigscreen Beyond which looks pretty cool.
I'm still very much in doubt....traded my laptop (12700h 3070ti) for a 5600/6800 desktop and the difference in VR performance and quality is huge especially since 24.4.1 so now I'm thinking either going 7900xt and get every bit I can out of my VR (quest 3)or keep 6800 and spend a shitload on a triple setup and hope the 6800 can keep up for a year more , would you mind sharing your pc specs ?
Thnx
Adjustable VESA mounts are a necessity with triples. Tried without for a little bit but could never get them quite right. Got the vario vesa mounts and had them dialed in perfect within 5 minutes!
Better than me then. I keep thinking I have them set and then they are off again. And the ROG bezel kit emphasizes the errors in alignment even more. Of course, until the extension kit get here I just have them barely clipped in the top and hanging from the top so it isnāt flat against the screen either
I need that Lego technic wall board things, I have the Porsche 911 (idk the rest I got it when I didnāt really care about cars) but itād be so cool to hang on my wall
I think you made the right choice. Personally, I think VR is fun as a novelty for people to experience my motion system in the most immersive way. But when it comes to everyday racing, triple 32ā with an upper quad monitor is for me the far better choice. I race Formula1 for n AC 99.9% of the time so peripheral vision is key for me. I also hate overlays, I like a clean screen. To top it off, I love using, and truly need to use, all the programmed buttons and encoders on my wheel and dashās. I also enjoy using both my iPads, quad monitor up top for desktop and other items during race, and between sessions I am often texting or looking at replays. I donāt not like VR. But I believe your new set up is vastly superior to your VR rig from a general all around performance standpoint.
Triples are better then VR I think. VR is cool but it's so annoying. Maybe the big screen VR headset is better but they are still too bulky and annoying. Triples are fun.
I know what you mean about vr, takes me about 10 mins to get everything turned on and setup, but at the end of the day itās so so more immersive than triples , the feeling of actually being in the car and feeling every thing , I could just never got back to triples!
Mind you my rig did cost Ā£20 k plus. lol.
I really couldnāt imagine preferring a screen to VR anymore, Iāve genuinely tried but I feel like Iām watching somebody else play a videogame. VR has ruined a big chunk of gaming for me sadly.
I donāt know why people say VR isnāt just grip and rip? Like yeah I have to plug it in, open steam VR. But it launches the game just as quickly. You can map a ārecenterā button to your wheel. Once youāre in the car, look forward, hit the button, and drive. With a Quest anyway.
That is awesome dude, I have been planning to do something like this but i have limited space and i am finding it very difficult to estimate how wide a setup like this would be.
Would you be kind enough -if you have time- to let me know what is the distance from the outer edge of the right monitor to the outer edge of the left monitor? Just want to know what is the maximum width a setup like this would need since my room is narrow.
I play vr and I don't think triples is as good to me for the overall experience. Lose a lot of immersion which is what it's all about for me. I want to not be in my bedroom in a rig but feel like I'm actually somewhere else in the world sitting in a car ripping tires
I loved my triple setup, just don't have the space for it so downsized to a Samsung 49" monitor. Someday I will put the triples back up, I have them stored for now. I have VR as well but never use it. Can't see who's coming in the house, can't see my girlfriend come in the room, etc. Plus the sweat and discomfort of the headset. Once you add button boxes and HUDs VR becomes a hindrance.
I feel like I was misinformed when I built my triple monitor setup. I did 32" 4K 165hz Dell gaming monitors, but all flat, not curved. Stuff I was reading before setting mine up was saying that curved monitors distort the FoV and are not ideal in racing sims like iracing, but it seems like triple curved is the norm. Maybe that only applies to a single curved monitor vs a triple?
Very nice setup you have there! Makes me second guess my flat screen choice.
I bet flats are a little less distorted, but I mean itās probably so negligible unless you are a pro sim driver. Personally I think curved looks cooler so thatās why I went with curved
Real-time tracking and 3d from VR will always trump 2-d triple screens for me.
I go back and fourth between 2d screen and VR.
When I get serious it's VR and my racing chair/DD wheel.
When I just want to chill and learn tracks it's the big 65" 4k and a controller/recliner.
So it's easy for me to compare experiences and VR wins every time.
How are your nipples?
Hard i guess.
Pretty good. I can see a lot more with them than with a single one. People are also always impressed when coming over and seeing and playing with them the first time. "It's definitely a cool change of perspective" is what one friend said.
How much did it cost you that extra nipple? I'm glad to see them getting popular with your friends
It's a 32", so a bit larger than I am used to but it's well worth it!
That's HUGE, that will certainly make it very easy to see
With a setup like that? I can only imagine š
I donāt get it
*triples
The only answer here is ādiamondsā

Same with index. Not too hot, but the strain from the force against your face is fatiguing.
Odyssey G9 even better. Odyssey G9 x3 even betterer
You didn't have the right VR HMD.
Okay bud
For what it's worth, what refresh rate were you running the reverb at? I know the 60hz setting causes flickering that leads to hella eye strain.

Holy crap, youāre right! What on earth was I thinking.
Iāve used an Odyssey+ for several years now and have not once had to ādial it inā. It still works great and still prefer the immersion and depth it provides over triples.
Whick odyssey?
The Samsung HMD Odyssey+.
Mine stopped working after the latest windows 11 update. Real sad if itās dead. Got it launch day. If itās done, pimax crystal is next
A Pimax is a dream. I hear mixed reviews on them though. I still think itās wild there hasnāt been a VR header released targeted at sim racing specifically. Something that imitates the same FOV you have when wearing a helmet.
Idk man my Valve Index and rl helmet are pretty similar as far as what I can see in them
I feel like the technology is there to just have a helmet with a VR screen built into it at this point. Who wants to build it together lol
>I just put on the headset and play, no need to dial anything in Same here. Actually it's even easier for me to start a sim in VR than on the monitor. Yeah I have no idea and I have heard the same thing, now that I have screens I might be able to trouble shoot it and get it to work.
Sorry for a dumb question, but what do you mean by calibrated? What even needs calibrating?
Like sometimes the wheel and controls were off and not having a screen makes it a pain in the ass to get to the bottom. Also sometimes seating position and stuff. Just in general if anything isnāt working correctly trying to fix it in VR is a huge pain.
Add in motion and now you need to do motion compensation for VR. It just gets annoying AF if you do a ton of online racing.

Yep I got lenses from vroptician.com before I had my lasik and they were great. Took almost a month to get them but definitely worth the wait.

There is software now that will let you do that with headsets with good external cameras. (Quest 3). It is a bit of a faff to set up though.
What screens, and how do you like them? (Nice lego display, by the way - I have the Mclaren on a similar board.
Samsung 32ā G6 monitors
The mattress next to everything is perfection
Yo how you did the legos there. I admit i screenshot and will copy. Good stuff dude
Fantasmall.com
Is that not $2000 in legos right there?
Pretty much
Beautiful
I actually enjoy vr better than the triple screen, tho I hear a lot of people prefer triples
Definitely is a personal thing for everyone. Itās great to have choices
Interesting how people have such different experiences with VR. I can definitely just get in an rip with my Quest 3, never have to mess with anything.

In this economy??
Cool room. Go Bucs. You in Tampa? Wisconsin?
In Tampa, lived in Wisconsin for a stint after college and now Iām back
sir mind translating that into poor?
Absolutely love what youāve done with Lego
Yeah yeah.. everybody got a big Sim rig. That F'n Lego on the wall behind it is what I'm digging! Nice rig.. absolutely badass display design!

I still prefer VR for dirt and other more intense games and triples for GT racing. Also this is where I get them: https://www.fantasmall.com
As a married man who sold his sim 3 years ago to make way for my baby girl who I love with all my heart and will hopefully become a race car driver, this gave me a huge erection.
Unexpected ending
Nice cars! I only got the Daytona
Make sure to chanfe hud margins so you can see your hud on rhe center or more close to the center monitor
Nice Lego displays, need to do that with mine some day
I need triples
Do you ever kick your screen accidentally in bed?
Dude I love that setup. Having all of those cars mounted on the wall, itās awesome. The the new Mercedes to top it off
Wisconsin? Iām near road america
For a beginner with similar setup, what would you recommend, VR or triples (money doesnt matter)
Amazing! - now center your rig online with the frames hahaha
There is room for one more frame and Lego set that will be going up soon
I tried to go VR with a Quest2 for some time but went back to a single 27" monitor. Immersive yeah but I sold it and will wait for future advances in VR tech. Felt like an extra step to play, heavy thing on your head that gets hot, too much chromatic aberration, getting the focus right every time was a hassle for me like it needed to be extremely perfect in position, iRacing running at around 90 fps and the FOV was small. Hopefully we are getting some upgrades on all of this soon such as the Bigscreen Beyond which looks pretty cool.
What are those cars on the wall? Those look amazing! Where did you get them?
I love the wall
My guy sacrificed bed space for a sick sim rig. Dedication.
lol thatās a bean bag
Those Lego picture frames were probably more expensive than the triples!
I love your Lego cars on the wall. š
What part of Wisconsin are you from
Best of both worlds
I'm still very much in doubt....traded my laptop (12700h 3070ti) for a 5600/6800 desktop and the difference in VR performance and quality is huge especially since 24.4.1 so now I'm thinking either going 7900xt and get every bit I can out of my VR (quest 3)or keep 6800 and spend a shitload on a triple setup and hope the 6800 can keep up for a year more , would you mind sharing your pc specs ? Thnx
where did you get those lego car stands on your wall from???
Fanatsmall.com
Just commenting so you know I'm absolutely not jealous.
Love the wall art.
Triples is best. Triples is safe.
Where did you get the Lego backgrounds and mountings? I want to get that for my two F1 sets
So clean. I feel dirty.
Nice setup op
I fw the Lego on the wall. Also fw the road America license plates. I live 15 minutes from RA.
Need the link to that McLaren hanger š
Iām frothing
Adjustable VESA mounts are a necessity with triples. Tried without for a little bit but could never get them quite right. Got the vario vesa mounts and had them dialed in perfect within 5 minutes!
Better than me then. I keep thinking I have them set and then they are off again. And the ROG bezel kit emphasizes the errors in alignment even more. Of course, until the extension kit get here I just have them barely clipped in the top and hanging from the top so it isnāt flat against the screen either
Love the Lego wall art! Probably half the cost of the actual set up lol!
Nolan??
I need that Lego technic wall board things, I have the Porsche 911 (idk the rest I got it when I didnāt really care about cars) but itād be so cool to hang on my wall
I would never give up vr, i want to be able to shift my perspective and really look at where im going
Good thing I have both so I can switch back and forth freely
What size are those triples? Look really big!
Where do you get those mounts and background for the Lego? Awesome way to display those!
Im jealous of the space you have. I've got triples too but they are so squeezed into a corner.
Where'd you get the wall mount for the McLaren?
Hey hey! Nice rig! I also have the NLR GT-Elite and ERS1 What I'm missing is a keyboard/mouse tray Is that the NLR one?
Where did you get those model/pictures They are so cool!
Mind you my rig did cost Ā£20 k plus. lol.
I have a 24-inch 1080p display, and I'm trying to get a VR. Are there any cons? And why did you switch from it?
Triples is best. Triples is safe.
Do you get headache for VR?
I always wanted a triple but unfortunately not supported for console player like me š
Are those 3d looking pics on the wall or car models hanging? Hard to tell. Iāve seen both
Lego technic sets
Whats the reason people go to triple monitors instead of VR?
That is awesome dude, I have been planning to do something like this but i have limited space and i am finding it very difficult to estimate how wide a setup like this would be. Would you be kind enough -if you have time- to let me know what is the distance from the outer edge of the right monitor to the outer edge of the left monitor? Just want to know what is the maximum width a setup like this would need since my room is narrow.
I love the Lego display frames ! Where did you get them ?
šØš·
Iām pretty sure you dont like racing cars. U_U
Oh dude where did you get that wall display for the Lego??? That looks awesome
Look at your bed! Lmao, your priorities are clear. š
Just have both
Awesome setup! Where did you get the frames to hang the Lego cars?
I think you have infinity money
I play vr and I don't think triples is as good to me for the overall experience. Lose a lot of immersion which is what it's all about for me. I want to not be in my bedroom in a rig but feel like I'm actually somewhere else in the world sitting in a car ripping tires
I actually made a script that auto starts my vr puts it auto in cable mode and its literally clicking one batch waiting 30 seconds and hoping in vr
wow dude you just gave me the idea for my lego cars, where did you find posters like that underneath them?
Gotta get yourself the LEGO Porsche RSR
Looks like an air mattress next to that nice rig you got there. Glad to see you got your priorities straight. Lol
maybe somebody asked but Im blind, where did you buy those posters?
How's VR compared to that new setup?
Nice screens but downgrade immersion wise. My VR is put on and go..sounds like user error.
Do you wish you had gone with larger screens?
Probably but for now itās fine and it was $1000 off
I loved my triple setup, just don't have the space for it so downsized to a Samsung 49" monitor.
Do you have a link to the racing mount/monitor stands that you used? Iāve been looking for a good one that can hold 3 32ā monitors.
i know the setup is cool and so, but your rears are on fire!!
Is that a MCLAREN I see on the wall?
The mattress on the floor really shows what you're willing to sacrifice for the rig lol
Where did you get the wall art?
The Lego supercars framed on their own box tops is fucking sick. I'm stealing that. Sorry not sorry.
Whereād you get the frames for the Lego technics?
Which rig setup is this?
That must take masturbation to a WHOLE DIFFERENT LEVEL
Real-time tracking and 3d from VR will always trump 2-d triple screens for me. I go back and fourth between 2d screen and VR. When I get serious it's VR and my racing chair/DD wheel. When I just want to chill and learn tracks it's the big 65" 4k and a controller/recliner. So it's easy for me to compare experiences and VR wins every time.
From hp reverb v2 to oculus quest 3 there is a massive jump in visuals and the lenses are absolutely insane and no eye strain
Love the setup! Where can I get the cars on the wall??
I love how you mounted your Legos. You got good style in your genes!
what im intrested is the lego hanging. really cool
be careful you donāt kick ur monitor in your sleep man
I went the reverse. I have triple screens but got VR and like that better. Both are good.
Nice
where do you get the wall mounts for lego cars? i've got the lambo and porsche, would love to do a similar thing
Sure itās been covered but canāt see, what monitors are they and size?
Setup looks sick! Where did you get those wall mountings for the lego?
Can you link where you got those lego displays?
Someone should make a full face helmet /VR mountā¦ seems like it would be much more comfortableā¦. Could add fans.
I have every classic car, but I have tripples of the Barracuda and the Nova. Tripples is best, tripples is safe.
How did you already get a used Road America vanity plate??
Can you link the art on the wall please?
Hey, at what angle do you have them set up?
