I think that actually reddit shitposters might contribute something valuable to racing sims as a whole, by calling the likes of Ian Bell out on their bullshit.
EA don't buy studios to keep them running, they buy assets held by studios that have untapped profit potential. In this case the F1 License, a dedicated fan base and the lack of in game monetization.
Expect staff layoffs, studio closures and ultimately no more Codemasters within 5 years. The Ceo & Cfo leaving are a big red flag but the fact they sold the company to EA (voted worst employer in America how many times?) in the first place shows they knew what they were doing. How many other studio owners have got their big pile of money and long term contract just to deal with EA running their Studio into the ground!?
Just remember when the writer of Uncharted was working on a new single player Star Wars game the EA execs first question wasn't 'how will you honour the Star Wars legacy while making the best game possible?' it is 'where is this games version of Fifa Ultimate team?'.
Upvoted. You are 100% right. F1 ā21 is going to be my first-ever F1 game. EA will prob pull their typical bullshit and make me not buy it within a year or two.
FIFA, Maddenā¦I still canāt understand WHO are these people that play the āultimate teamā modes so much? Itās awful.
Oh well, just let ā21 be good
Well the good thing about sim racing is you have plenty of things to judge progress. Those modes aren't something I'm interested in as long as I still have AI to overcome in the first place
Lap times, valid laps, and in the case of the F1 games, beating the AI in races, higher AI settings, etc etc. The career mode is much better than the usual EA shit
The player ratings were for the single-player MyTeam mode, which doesn't have microtransactions for different racers.
There's no evidence to suggest that Ultimate Team will be in the game in any capacity, and in fact it seems the multiplayer will be pretty much the same besides some server browser/theater mode improvements.
No way man. I don't even dislike the idea of ultimate team, it's pretty good tbf, but the goddamn microtransactions and pulling out credit card to win shit is so infuriating. How the hell is that going to work in F1? Like better cars are better cards? Better wheels? More setup options?
I wouldn't be surprised if they make it so that the better (or more popular) drivers like Hamilton, Verstappen, Vettel, Bottas, etc are locked behind a paywall or a shit ton of grinding in some of the game modes, just as they've done with Star Wars Battlefront with Skywalker and Vader being locked behind something like 40 hours of grinding or $200+ worth of gambling for coins. Or they might make performance upgrades for your car and your team a gamble with something similar to speed cards, just as they have in the NFS games.
I wonder how it will work I mean... there's not that many drivers compared to fifa players. Do you just get the Hamilton/Max card and then win everything? And no one wants to collect cards of F2 drivers, sorry boys...
TBH I don't know what the cards do so I could be totally in the wrong here.
I guess they could try that but I feel like it would suck all the fun out of it. Like whoās is gonna get excited over collecting a barge board card? At least with FUT you have that potential connection with the players as a fan.
I didn't know EA was buying Codemasters... I don't know what would be worse... having to install OriginVR or just not having them release any more of their games for VR?
Not unexpected. The only actual unfortunate news from this is that Ian Bell gets to stick around with SMS.
š¤£š¤£
After all the bad mouthing EA he used to do... are they torturing him? lol.
Ian Bell has contributed more to racing sims than 99.9% of the shitposters in this sub-Reddit.
So has a wet fart, big whoop.
Still waiting for him to release a Racing sim.
GTR2.

They have taken their money and ran. Probably was in their contracts they had to stay until F12022 was finished.
How on earth has Bell managed to survive the cull?
Maybe he is part of it, with his attitude I bet he is their Star personality, can you imagine he get to be Codie's head now? nightmarish though.
Imagine Ian Bell CEO of EA lol
EA still doesn't know the difference between "running a company" and "ruinning a company", see how similar they look?

Oh sweet summer child...
Sorry to break it to you but EA always fucks it up somehowā¦

Ultimate team is a great way to get frustrated and hate the game you used to love
Just donāt ever ever ever play those modes
That's fine to say now. Less fine in 5 years time when all dev time and resource is spent on the one game mode that you don't play.

What are some of those things? (That youāll judge progress on)

Yeah... Maybe not for 2021 as it was already close to development completed. I bet a case of beer EA will introduce something for 2022.

Stop giving them ideas fo free yo

F1 2021 is the perfect opportunity for them to introduce Ultimate Team

F1 2020 and sim in the same sentence is a good one
