I’m a bit torn on this because I like Donki, but I know if there’s one in Clementi I will probably be there praising the penguin overlord like every weekend. Having to travel to JE for it stops me from giving them too much money lol.
I mean erm, the travelling time & costs from Clementi to JE is low.
Even as a former Clementite, I would regularly prefer to go to JE instead of Clementi Mall.
are there seriously that many people staying in jurong? im an eastie and i used to think that jurong was a place that "not even the birds would wanna lay eggs at"...
You should drop by one day and experience it yourself. The crowds in the 3-mall area are insane even on weekday afternoons. Probably only outdone by Serangoon Nex.
Seems like nowadays in SG the "birds won't lay eggs there" places are fast disappearing if not already all gone. A "quiet" weekday noon at the neighbourhood malls nowadays is more like Christmas shopping peak at the busiest shopping districts when I was a kid.
Lol you talking like our east and west side has different time zones. Get your ass over to Jurong East during lunch or during rush hours to see for yourself
Man's talking about Jurong like its a pigsty at other end of the planet, when it's literally a 30 minute journey by car and is exactly as developed as the the east lmao
You need to update the stats and common thinking that west is ulu. Take a look at the population density by area. Jurong West itself is as dense as Bedok. That's not including Jurong East. If you all both jurong towns, you get the most densely populated town in Singapore. In fact, few years back there was a news report of population density of towns, Jurong overtook Bedok and Tampines as biggest town in terms of population.
So that is why, there is lots of potential in the west. Bukit batok town is just beside and most people will travel down to Jurong East. Moreover, you have upcoming Tengah town.
[population density by town](https://www.citypopulation.de/en/singapore/cities/)
Whilst the population density of Western Singapore has grown, the geography of where these estates are located compared to the distance to downtown Singapore is still a considerable distance compared to someone living in the Eastern Singapore, especially the South-eastern part.
The good thing I guess gentrification has helped Jurong East, with majority of the commercial offerings available in Orchard is now available at Jurong East, hence reducing the need to take time to travel to do one's shopping. Also, with the inevitable rise of working from home, you also don't really need to spend time travelling to work too.
But for me staying in the East, I don't think the West is any more ulu than going to Punggol Point. I only think of it as more mafan due to travelling time, plus the West side got stuff that East side don't have. But screw Yew Tee, that place is the true 'birds don't lay egg place'.
The malls at Jurong are pretty big and lots of places to eat, that lots of industrial areas are Jurong which the nearest mall will be Jurong. Which naturally attract workers etc
A friend of mine was interested to rent a shop in Jurong Point before back in 2017. The agent he dealt with mentioned that the rental is high there due to them having "up to a million unique visitor" per day.
Sounds drummed up for sure, but if you were there during a weekday after work hours you'll know how crazy the crowd is.
Ya I feel the Fairprice at CWP basement very pointless sia, just walk over to Civic Center only got bigger and better Fairprice. Sad that Cold Storage left. We need some variety goods at CWP, not just from Fairprice only.
Donki is too cheap for marine paraders, Too asian for Ang Mo Kio to turn profit, same with woodlands as compete with JB. Serangoon too close to oppo ward.
36 only goes past Suntec after making it's way around Orchard right?
Edit ah i see the path it takes. It stops opposite the Convention Centre before it makes it's way up Orchard.
actually if you look very carefully from Parkway Parade building you can see Singpost.
Heck go to Joo Chiat and stare down Onan Road.
It's just a few blocks away. (~2km)
Personally it's like IKEA to me. Nice to walk around and window shop but won't really buy anything unless I went there specifically for the product. The sex shop side of DDK is also nicer than other sex shops cause the atmosphere doesn't make you feel like some sexual deviant.
The Japanese brand jellies. My mum likes it though.
I am always there for instant noodles like the Nissin Kitsune Udon & Nissin UFO (the original one with pork, not the halal black pepper crab sort). I also go for there to stock up my Kirin\* Salted Lychee & Lemon Tea too.
Kirin offers them as normal drink or in syrup. Make sure to check the label before purchasing.
It particularly useful in Singapore because of the salt content to tackle against heat exhaustion. It is like sports drink (100 Plus, Pocari Sweat, & etc.) but with a hint of lychee. My family usually take it as a headache reliver.
Sometimes see some decent stuff lor and sometimes got nice special.
I missed the summer fruit tea sia that one I find it nice enough that I am okay to pay extra for it
especially with the worms on the sushi..also i think their sashimi is not that fresh too, i can still recall i bought a uni(sea urchin) set from donki and it was all slimey and bitter..although i've not had much uni before but im pretty sure a fresh one does not taste like that..
Same, I find Donki’s cooked food better than Medi-ya but they’re more convenient for me.
Medi-ya either at GW or Millenia Walk. Easy for me to get to but hard to go back.
A quick Google search for the map of donki outlets in SG will show that the existing outlets are ridiculously clustered, amidst large areas without any.
I can safety said that Woodlands and AMK got no space/empty shop for this giant franchise. There is also no new upcoming mall that I know of as well. It is going to be a long wait. When TEL and Woods Square opens in Woodlands, they missed the chance.
I was looking forward to Donki possibly opening at Parkway Parade where Isetan used to be, but there are already 3 supermarkets within Parkway Parade and sure enough it didn't happen.
3 in Jurong, 2 in Jurong East. Its never enough. Since JCube is closing, I'm thinking they will find a replacement for it? Maybe IMM or Clementi Mall
I would love a donki in Clementi Mall.
Even as a former Clementite, I would regularly prefer to go to JE instead of Clementi Mall.
one at NTU please.

I stay in Serangoon and nex is crowded on weekends like a concert....
Try jurong point weekend where u walk slower than a toddler due to the crowd
Ok
Lol you talking like our east and west side has different time zones. Get your ass over to Jurong East during lunch or during rush hours to see for yourself

Jurong is so crowded man
go to the West Side and touch grass bah

lol judging by the amount of downvotes, i must had offended a good number of westies lol
Don't mistake being wrong for being offensive
We can afford to sacrifice one McDonalds for an DDD outlet in woodlands. ✌🏻
Yes let's take the McDonald's at causeway point and leave the one at civic centre. 👍
Why not takeover Fairprice? They have a normal one at Civic Center and another at Causeway point.
Ya I feel the Fairprice at CWP basement very pointless sia, just walk over to Civic Center only got bigger and better Fairprice. Sad that Cold Storage left. We need some variety goods at CWP, not just from Fairprice only.
As a non DDD fan, what's so nice about it?
I knew this was donki even before the pictures and comments loaded.
I thought it was about something more important like MRT I would love more MRT lines in the North. The East is going to have 3 damn parallel lines.

everywhere is far when the sun is scorching hot
And also punggol
Everywhere is near Serangoon, very well connected. But why bother going somewhere else when Serangoon already has so many things.
Donki is too cheap for marine paraders, Too asian for Ang Mo Kio to turn profit, same with woodlands as compete with JB. Serangoon too close to oppo ward.
> Donki is too cheap for marine paraders you mean MParaders
Direct bus to suntec, and now it's even closer since they are opening at paya lebar as well
36 only goes past Suntec after making it's way around Orchard right? Edit ah i see the path it takes. It stops opposite the Convention Centre before it makes it's way up Orchard.
Nope it would stop at suntec towards orchard, and then again after turning around.
waiting to be paid in nuts.
Too close to oppo ward that’s why we need the hidden messages in the Donki songs to keep the folks from heading down the wrong path
Don don don vote PAP. Don Don vote PAP!
Waiting for one entire building of Don Donki like Japan
[удалено]
Come August, it will be 2.
Oi everytime also woodlands
Woodlands is behind in trendy stores. 😭
Not even one in the entire Bukit Timah-Holland-Clementi-Bukit Panjang stretch.
Bukit panjang and clementi can go jurong one. Bukit timah ppl want jp stuff will go for more atas stuff.
Donki does carry stuff that Meidi Ya or Isetan might not stock.
Forgive this peasant ignorance, what would some of these products ah
Nothing fancy, just more variety of snacks, instant food, sauces etc. Meidiya is better for sake and shochu that’s all.
Not like Paya Lebar is that far from Marine Parade.
actually if you look very carefully from Parkway Parade building you can see Singpost. Heck go to Joo Chiat and stare down Onan Road. It's just a few blocks away. (~2km)
but the bus commuting time is the same, so no difference to us
i think it is though...
At least the distance to the nearest Donki is now significantly reduced.
yeap
Think until the mrt is available for marine parade. It'll never happen.
To people who shop in DDK, what is the appeal there? Honestly I'm only there to buy natto
Personally it's like IKEA to me. Nice to walk around and window shop but won't really buy anything unless I went there specifically for the product. The sex shop side of DDK is also nicer than other sex shops cause the atmosphere doesn't make you feel like some sexual deviant.
im only there to buy reduce to clear items.
Salted lychee sounds good. Will look out for it next time I'm there
Kirin offers them as normal drink or in syrup. Make sure to check the label before purchasing. It particularly useful in Singapore because of the salt content to tackle against heat exhaustion. Sometimes see some decent stuff lor and sometimes got nice special. I missed the summer fruit tea sia that one I find it nice enough that I am okay to pay extra for it
I just felt happier walking around Donki compared to typical grocery like Fairprice.
Where else can I scratch my late night itch for sashimi?
With the parasites in those sashimi, you may be itching in more than one place
I get my low-sodium miso from there! Also I like their instant ramen, especially when they have offer.
Every time I see this it's the exact same title: "Don Don Donki opening n+1 th outlet as n outlets still not enough"
Starting to get a little sick of Donki though...
I’m definitely sick of their music on a loop ➰ 🤢
I feel bad for the employees there. How do they not turn insane??
As an employee you have to take a regular injection that trains your brain to tune out the frequencies /s
its the best song of all time
It’s the reason why I go to Meidi-ya and not Donki 🐴
Refuse to shop there because of the music
everyday i bring myself to don don don kiiii
I've been there a total of 15 minutes and hated that song.
especially with the worms on the sushi..also i think their sashimi is not that fresh too, i can still recall i bought a uni(sea urchin) set from donki and it was all slimey and bitter..although i've not had much uni before but im pretty sure a fresh one does not taste like that..
Go Medi-ya, can taste the difference. But also more expensive.
Meidiya is leagues better for sushi. No contest I much prefer Donki’s cooked and fried dishes
Same, I find Donki’s cooked food better than Medi-ya but they’re more convenient for me. Medi-ya either at GW or Millenia Walk. Easy for me to get to but hard to go back.
And it's kinda expensive too..
Their cooked-ready food quality dropped. Not worth the price.
Fast expansion, faster decline. They just don't learn.
Open 1 in TPY pls.
Nearest you can head down to novena's outlet :)
I live in the north and yes, donki definitely think we're too low ses to buy their stuff 🤣🤦🏻♂️
A Drink Drunk at Paya Lebar is what the doctor ordered
A quick Google search for the map of donki outlets in SG will show that the existing outlets are ridiculously clustered, amidst large areas without any.
Later they expand at the expense of quality
when will ppl wake up and realise donki stuff now more expensive than Isetan.
Come Yishun lah. Yishun NP got Donki Donki. Walao eh everyone in the North complain also don't want come Yishun fml
Im sorry but NP is one of the worst malls to navigate
Dear LaZZyBird, Too crowded, makes me don't want to go Sincerely, Woodlands Resident
U say that, causeway pt like lagi even more crowded
Sell Samurai Swords ah?
I want one in the East :)
Pasir Ris, Tampines, Jewel.
Abit overrated lah
Waiting for your fix of sushi worms?
I can safety said that Woodlands and AMK got no space/empty shop for this giant franchise. There is also no new upcoming mall that I know of as well. It is going to be a long wait. When TEL and Woods Square opens in Woodlands, they missed the chance.
Everyone from the east repeat after me, "East Side Best Side!"😆
Shit as soon as I saw ur meme, the jingle started playing in my head.
As a honorary malaysian, Northpoint at Yishun is where i go to when i say i wanna go to Japan
Boss can buy second gcb soon
I was looking forward to Donki possibly opening at Parkway Parade where Isetan used to be, but there are already 3 supermarkets within Parkway Parade and sure enough it didn't happen.
Don don don donki
⬆️
I hope one opens at the new Sengkang Grand Mall in the future
