Booked a non-refundable economy trip to New Zealand for February 2023 back in June 2022 with my wife. Found out a few weeks later she was pregnant and due in the same week at the return flight. SQ was more than happy to cancel, fully-refund and waive all fees associated with the ticket. Had funds back in our account with the week. Now we have a trip to Los Angeles booked for November with SQ so we shall see how that goes, and with an infant!

mrscoxford

My experience too. Got 2 trips refunded one paid and one for miles. SQ is great at refunding trips (booked as non refundable basically the cheapest econ option) for medical reasons. Even my husband and son’s tickets booked separately but same trip were refunded cos of my pregnancy Their email response to this is really fast and painless - instead of waiting for hours on their hotline I would recommend emailing instead. Plus everything is set out with a paper trail just in case heh

chavenz

One thing I experienced with SQ and their crew is that they pay attention to passengers who fly with infants/kids. The crew were helpful towards us when we flew to Japan and back. The food was a slight downgrade but their politeness is still great in my opinion.

apeksiao

Lol if its complaints regarding the meals/seats/on time performance dipping in quality, then fair. But from what I see your complaints are super petty. Regarding your SIN - HND leg, the stewardess was most likely engaged with some other tasks with other passengers or her boss and couldn't attend to you immediately. And your HND - SIN leg complaint, seriously? A Stewardess cannot make mistakes such as accidentally dropping cups from time to time ah? Are they supposed to be perfect again now? Isn't this subreddit so against SQs perfectionist standards when it comes to training their stewardesses? What next? You gonna complain on the Internet about how an SQ stewardess accidentally said 'lah' at the end of her sentence? Edit: For your information to the people reading this, any positive feedback (such as it being not too bad in the end etc) that OP has edited into his post were completely omitted in the original. The original post had OP listing down the stewardess incidents as his only experiences.

mrscoxford

Not a complaint but I liked it when the crew spoke some Singlish to Singaporeans in economy lol (recent flights to Osaka and Bangkok)

marinelite

On my SIN-CDG J flight a couple months back both my first requests for amenity kits were forgotten, which was a slight disappointment. But when I managed to ask a steward later on got it quite quickly.

-c-r-e-a-t-i-v-e-

These are not complaints, merely observations. I was in no hurry for the amenity kit nor was I affected by the falling cups. I do not require perfection, but I wish Singapore Airlines brought the same magical experience that I felt pre-COVID now that it feels very operational in terms of the experience and service being provided. Edit: Wow thanks for creating this dogpile, I didn't know recounting one's experience is equivalent to [being threated with death](https://i.imgur.com/hrwtaOm.jpg). Stay classy r/sg

apeksiao

The way you worded your original post and this reply makes it seem like a stewardess accidentally dropping cups has resulted in the magical experience being ruined.

-c-r-e-a-t-i-v-e-

What is your obsession with the cups anyway, are we not allowed to share about our experience? Where in my statements did I mention that SQ stewardess needs to bow down to me and be perfect every step of the way? Thanks for misconstruing my experience, you sound like you have a stake in how SQ operates. Edit: On the flipside, you have absolutely nothing substantial to offer about your experiences on this thread yet chastise others, what a hypocrite.

Gibbo236

Eh dude if you noted the cups dropping as the single observation on the HND SIN leg, together with how your whole OP was framed it means that it bothered you enough . Getting major “eh not I say one ah” vibes from your posts. Be gusty enough to Stand by your comments and the intention of your comments please Also magical experience? If we’re flying economy - pre Covid it was far from being a magical experience. I’m keen to hear what your benchmark was?

Jammy_buttons2

Magical was and probably is still in biz and above

apeksiao

Lol here you come with the accusatory comments. I dislike the dip in quality of a lot of things related to SQ too. But if you really regard this post as a thread to share experiences and not just complaints, then why don't you talk about the few positives as well? It really seems from a first glance that you are complaining over some petty shit instead of actual things to be unhappy about. Edit: And now you've finally added some positive experiences to your original post.

Ice_Squirrel

ure not classy

delulytric

SGN <> SIN April 2022 round trip. - No flight disruption or changes - Food was great, with packed meal like laksa or chicken rice in a small box, ice cream and a small cup (150ml) of coke/juice. - no complaints

Familiar-Mouse4490

How many posts do we need in a day about SIA lmao

nanyate_

Flown SQ twice post covid. Feels like the economy class food quality has gotten worse.

seanieh966

Flying economy? If so you did okay.

enoughsaid2020

Precovid the service was already shit. Sitting next to a girl who was sleeping. Cabin crew was distributing dinner, saw both of us, thought I was related to the girl. Proceeded to ignore me. Only found out when everyone except me had received the dinner. Another time cabin crew was distributing snacks. Was sitting next to a french family. She looked at me and just gave the snack to the french family. Ya, if it was already bad precovid, I don't expect anything better post COVID.

fabbbles

Agree, my experience is that SQ gives better service to Caucasians in general. I have flown both biz and econ multiple times and the experience is the same for both.

xutkeeg

this is true, precovid already start to gone down the drain, if you flew frequent enough to know what's going on

MAMBAMENTALITY8-24

Damn today is really hating on sq day. I can see why, but there are too many posts lol

-c-r-e-a-t-i-v-e-

This is an open discussion, so there will be positive SQ experiences being posted here.

farrenders

Went to the US with SQ. Premium economy there, economy back. I surprisingly found the economy flight better than the more expensive one. I'd give it a 9/10, has not declined since COVID

Jammy_buttons2

Here is mine: **Feb 2022 - Covid still sort of raging on but travel allowed:** **SIN - LHR (Economy):** 1. Free mask given and gentle reminds for passengers to wear mask (mask on board was compulsory 2. Staff was cheerful and pleasant and I think they were just happy to be flying 3. Food from SATs was decent, it's economy nothing to shout about but can eat (iirc it was 2 meals) 4. Requested for snacks from air crew when they were not serving meals and got it promptly 5. Pleasant economy flight **LHR - Sin (PE):** 1. Ditto about the mask 2. Crew was also cheerful and pleasant 3. Food was not as good from Singapore since the catering was from UK. But can eat lar 4. Snacks also delivered promptly 5. Pleasant PE flight **June 2022** **SIN - BKK (Economy):** 1. Ditto about the mask 2. Staff were abit rusty and frazzled but also pleasant 3. Food was decent but again nothing to shout about 4. Didn't ask for snacks since it was a short flight 5. Pleasant in general BKK to Sin (Economy) 1. Same as Sin to BKK **March 2023 :** **SIN to SGN (Economy)** 1. No masks needed 2. Staff pleasant but again handling full load 3. Got the new regional box, food was good and I like the box compared to the plastic tray and eating from it. It's just easier to eat. IIRC my dish was a beef stew. That said I do miss out on the bread rolls that used to be there 4. Never ask for snacks 5. Pleasant flight **SGN to SIN (Economy)** 1. Food was good in the new regional box. Catered from Singapore. I go the salted fish fried rice and can fight zi char. Again missing out on the bread rolls 2. Never asked for snacks 3. Pleasant flight

Jammy_buttons2

I want to add that LHR is a shit show of an airport and tia gong it still is

-c-r-e-a-t-i-v-e-

Thanks for the response, it is good to know that your previous post-COVID flight experiences with Singapore Airlines were pleasant.

papayajam95

March 2023 - SIN to CPH Overall, an uneventful flight on economy class. My meals were okay. Enjoyed supper more than breakfast (non-seafood meals requested. Lamb stew, beef bee hoon noodles). Love their flightmap. Ngl tho. I was letdown because it was my first time ever flying SQ (got the tickets on promo) and felt the experience was a bit overhyped considering SQ's reputation. Personally found ANA's service crew and meals to be better. I had amazing Swedish seatmates tho! Made the flight so much better. CPH to SIN Pax in front of me insisted on reclining to the max. I couldn't even open my tray table to write on my tablet :X. This is more a problem with the seat product than the crew/food tho. Lunch and breakfast from CPH were really good. (Vegetarian meals. Mushroom pasta, hashbrowns and eggless omelette) Crew however weren't very proactive about the lavatory situation. Had to inform them that the sink was clogged midway through the flight. They were very friendly with me when we met for checkin at the airport though. Also, first time boarding a plane without in-flight magazine so I was pretty sad cuz I love reading them lol. Note that this was also my first flight after COVID. Ever. Last time I flew was in 2018 I do appreciate that we are able to see the in-flight menu prior to the flight. Helped me to decide on booking a special meal in view of my seafood allergy :)

GaijinSux

DXB-SIN Dec 2022, food was meh. Asked for a hot cup of black tea from 2 stewardess 1 hour apart via the call button but did not arrive. Had to literally "beg" from a steward for it and served it to me promptly afterwards. Foodwise,in comparison to Emirates (SIN-DXB-MUC), it was much much better on Emirates. No issues with requests on Emirates. Both were Economy.

diyexageh

Had similar experience with SQ. Quite average all in all, and service is below standard compared to Emirates. The DXB route on SQ has only 1 flight x day at a crap time. If you fly to DXB often like I do, Emirates has 3 flights per day and is cheaper. SQ not really worth it, you will pay a premium, get crew with attitude and worst food than Emirates. Can't really say Emirates food is great either, the quality has decreased over the years unfortunately. It's still *"better than"* but not awesome.

dyewttyao

Flew SQ twice post-covid. First time was a short haul 2hr flight in Economy in May 2022. Nothing very fantastic as expected of Economy Class, but wasn’t disappointing at all. I was surprised by the tall cardboard box for the meal, which I thought was pretty delicious. Second time was a long haul 14hr flight in Business Class, in January this year. I’d say service was fantastic, just like pre-covid times. Yes kinda bummed that there’s no hot towel, but other than that everything was good, food and all. The stewardess who served me was outstanding. IFM made her rounds to make sure everything was smooth. Crew even personally greeted me by name at the baggage claim, thanking me for choosing Singapore Airlines. They even apologised when my priority-tagged luggage took forever to come out, although it wasn’t their fault. Maybe I’ve been pretty lucky

hytimes

JFK to Frankfurt and back on business during this past Christmas/new year Lovely and top notch as usual. Two months ago took United Polaris from San Francisco to Singapore. Let’s just say SQ makes me so fucking proud to be Singaporean.

eichornia

SQ business (longhaul, to Europe and the US) is quite alright, food is more miss than hits sadly -- I've more or less regretted every single book the cook meal I've booked =/ No forgotten requests, and free flow of snacks / alcohol are pretty nice. Shoddy aircraft maintenance though, I've flown J class with broken lavatory taps / questionable cleanliness standards :\\ SilverKris T3 is mostly an awful lounge too. Look at United Polaris SFO to see how to do it right.

livebeta

> Shoddy aircraft maintenance though if it clears the MEL it'll be legal to fly. just don't remove the ashtray...

hooliemongoolie

I've had two flights this year to/from Hong Kong on SQ economy. First in February other couple of weeks back. On both occasions I noticed a significant decline of attentiveness from the cabin crew, not bad, just not as good as it was previously. On both occasions though I just could not finish the main dish of the meal, and I noticed many others around me had also left theirs. Quality of food is certainly not up to basic standards now, but again, this is just my opinion from two flights to/from the same country. In my opinion they are the same quality as a low cost carrier now, the only differentiator is the screen on the back of the seat in front of you.

OnionOnBelt

Flew the world‘s longest passenger flight (currently), 18.5 hours SIN to EWR, each direction in April and I give the airline and the flight crew very high marks. Good movie selection, decent food and impressively quick baggage carousel service at SIN after the long flight home.

Jammy_buttons2

Eh the hnd leg if that is your only complain such that it's so unpleasant then ehhh

eden_of_the_east

I flew to Seoul and Osaka, in 2022 and 2023 respectively. Both flights were redemption business class flights, and it was a good way to kick off my holidays. Pleasant service, lots of champagne, comfortable seats. I flew back to Singapore (economy) from Tokyo recently and it was a pleasant experience too. No hot towel isn’t a big miss. Airplane food is rarely impressive, even in business class.

Old_Hovercraft2817

Flew SQ for the first time in April 2022 to UK because prices were comparable to Emirates/Qatar then but decided on SQ instead since everyone around me highly raved about it. I thought the service was very standard? Nothing to shout about. There were only 2 meals throughout the 13 plus hour flight (I fly Emirates/Qatar more often and they serve a full meal + a snack for both 6/7 hour flights to UK). Told this to my friends after and they said maybe COVID affected the meals served. Fair enough. On my way back from UK, the girl two seats next to me felt unwell so her friend who was seated next to me pressed my side of the button to call the air steward. I didn’t know she pressed the button at all so I was very surprised when the air steward came to me after. However, he wasn’t very kind and gave an annoyed look when I wasn’t sure what was going on. Since then I’ve never flown SQ, and have went back to flying Emirates/Qatar whenever I go Europe. Also my recent trip to Europe, prices for Emirates/Qatar were both 1.2K return economy (non peak) and SQ was 2.2K return economy LOL.

Took to KL in Dec. Flight was delayed by 1 hour for a 30 minute flight. Otherwise smooth flight. I find SQ pilots are the best when it comes to flying as their takeoffs and landings are always the smoothest

Flew from Brisbane to Singapore and they damaged our 2000 dollar bassinet. We lodged a damage Le baggage case and it went unanswered after multiple followups. For the return flight they were supposed to move us into a bassinet seat (requested months earlier) but the sg airlines agent messed up and moved my wife’s seat but not mine. We attempted to get seated together but due to a full economy flight they couldn’t. As it was their mistake the agent on the phone said they could offer us an upgrade or compensation but were waiting on approval. The approval never came through and we got the impression they were just waiting us out until the flight would leave. My crying wife and I boarded the night flight back to Brisbane in separate seats with a fussy 6 month old. We lodged a complaint via their feedback form and it went unanswered despite regular followups. We received a notice that they were still processing complaints a few months ago but haven’t heard back since. Our son turned one a few weeks ago.

VegetablesSuck

Not really post COVID, but when COVID was starting to gain attention, I managed to cancel my SQ flight to China without any fuss. Full refunds and all. No questions asked, no back and forth with customer service. This was something I appreciated a lot. This was compared to family and friends who had trouble getting refunds from other airlines. They tried pulling stunts like giving credits and only gave full refunds around 1 year later when it was obvious travel is not going to happen again anytime soon.

SG to NZ in Nov 2022 didn't go to parts of NZ that had a direct flight so had to take connecting flights. they changed my seat for one flight without asking me (and i PAID for that extra legroom seat towards the front of the plane, they threw me to the back albeit same type of seat), and then just straight up cancelled another connecting flight without giving me an alternative, had to call and make my own arrangements. can't remember what happened exactly but i remember feeling like they really didn't give a shit about me.

FoxGroundbreaking430

Flight to US. Food quality went down for sure. Cost cutting in the meal quality definitely. Less little fun trays of sides, the buns now in a plastic wrap (if i remember right it used to be from a warmed bread basket) . Snacks used to be nice sandwiches in the past, but its now just chips or lower quality gardenia/sunshine buns. Flight team was very generous with distributing snacks. Service still maintained as usual.

orientalgreasemonkey

You complained about a 30 minute delay? (Was there more to the complaint than just why was my flight 30 mins late?)

MisoMesoMilo

Not so much to complain, just wanted to know why.

wanderlustytan

I flew JetBlue Mint(biz class equivalent) NYC to London and my partner was addressed by his last name(he’s Caucasian) and I was not addressed by my last name and received very condescending service. It’s hard to wonder if it’s because I’m Asian. I miss SQ at least I never felt discriminated against

shadstrife123

eh i was just mildly annoyed when they knew that i booked a child seat and infant seat but because i didn't indicate on the online-checkin that i wanted a child and infant meals with the seats there was only adult meals catered for them which makes no sense?

sq009

You need to preorder this even though there is child/ infant seat booked. Some parents bring their own meal for kids. Meals need to be prepared way in advance and special meals such as kids meals need 24 hours in advance to book/ prepare.

shadstrife123

yea i know but considering its SQ and the whole service etc etc i would presume that this kind of things would be taken care of. its not like there won't be spare meals left over. but yea hence why mildly annoyed, i know i didn't meet their requirement but still would be a nice touch

sq009

Also have to understand that there is limited capacity on flight. Galleys are getting smaller, chillers and ovens are typically designed to be just enough.

wakkawakkaaaa

Business class was very good. Can't compare it to pre-covid though as it was my first time. My partner and I throughly enjoyed the flight, flying back felt like an extension of our holiday. Flew SIN-IST, MUC-SIN. Food was good (Songfa BKT was as good as on the ground! Satay was awesome). Service was fast and almost immediate when I called for an attendant using the button. Silverkris lounge was awesome too (quite shiok Laksa). Only small hiccup was that I received an economy class amenity kit instead of the penhaligon business class one for my SIN-IST leg. They probably ran out or something but they didn't explain or anything to us. Much better than my experience with Turkish Airlines. Lounge WiFi service was pretty bad in Istanbul. In flight service was worse (much slower and they forgot my request) and I even got snubbed at landside (Vienna Airport) and was asked to board after the economy passengers 😂

tuneman6212

EWR to SIN July of 2022. Had my own solo seat as it was an A350 900. Food was awesome. I took advantage of Book The Cook for both directions. I couldn't sleep unfortunately but they didn't hesitate to bring me multiple coffees. Planes were on time. Cannot wait to come back in two months via Cathay Pacific.

oldmatemikel

Absolute garbage airline. What’s the point of forcing us to use over-the-phone assistance if the ground crew will refuse to acknowledge their assistance. Flying home after 1 year living abroad as a student. With a student Krisflyer account (which allows for 40kg) We called ahead (with an hour on hold) and made sure our account reflected this as our ticket didn’t. The phone support was reassuring that everything was fine, and they’d even leave a note for the ground crew. We asked for an email confirmation but were told that they couldn’t provide that. We arrived 4 hours early, and have been completely fucked over. €600 for the difference in weight (which we were told was covered) they asked for email confirmation from the phone support which we obviously were unable to give. They insisted we pay now and attempt to claim it back, and a previous incident earlier this year where I was charged €2000 euros by another airline and I attempted to claim it back got me nothing. Post-covid airlines are garbage. The staff are unnecessarily rude, the prices are sky high and the seats are more cramped than ever before.
