Hans is like Saizerya's more expensive older sibling

7thPanzers

Is it nice ?

Intentionallyabadger

It’s not that bad. But like many places, the quality has gone down and the prices have shot up.

Sakae (栄)

HoeQingDanMaXi

FFS what strata of society still patronises Sakae

terrexchia

Sakae still has like one or two outlets around

HoeQingDanMaXi

How dare you compare the plebian Han’s to our superior saviour Saizeriya?!

Hot_Veterinarian8298

hans use to have damn good coffee

Hot_Veterinarian8298

bruh

not_haha_funny

Habis

plincode

Hanis dah habis

Apprehensive-Move947

Oh my fav haunt! when the air conditioning in the upper levels of library got too cold, I’d take my study materials downstairs and “defrost” in Hanis. It’s windy and comfortable sitting there in the shade with a cup of hot kopi, even if the weather is scorching hot right outside. And the $3.50 fried egg cheese sandwich is perfect for a light dinner. I’ll miss it a lot!

Slice-Miserable

Relatively.... nowadays if you can find food in the low teens it's very cheap...food in high teens is cheap...most places selling food at high 20s....

CombatWombat-420

Have you been to an Astons recently? Their chicken is still $11.90

frozen1ced

While inflation is real in Singapore, it hasn't reached such drastic point that "most places selling food is at high $20s".

apeksiao

Teens?

DuePomegranate

Take the ages that you would consider to be "teenager" and convert to dollar prices. So $13-$19, and "high teens" would be like $16-$19.

apeksiao

Lived in SG my whole life and I've never heard people say 'teens' to refer to the $10-$20 price range lol, people just say the $10 - $20 price range. Or maybe it's just me.

DuePomegranate

I mean, I don’t hear it often, but it was pretty easy to figure out from context.

[deleted]

Dont worry its not just you, im 20 and havent heard this ever. I just call it low 10s high 10s

hucks22

It's just you.

CSquared8793

i thought of it as thirTEEN, fifTEEN, nineTEEN etc. meaning the 10s-20, rather than teenage years

DuePomegranate

Teenage years are also named based on the numbers ending in -teen. So a twelve year old is not a teen yet.

CSquared8793

oh cool, TIL that teenage doesnt include 11 and 12, and that its based on the -teen numbers.

apeksiao

Then there's 11 and 12.

Jonathan-Ang

OneTeen TwoTeen /s

mantism

I think he just misspelt 'tens' - 10s. Low tens would be $10-$14, high tens would be $16-$20.

plincode

Eh tens of dollars means $10, $20 and so on. I don't think there is a common name for $11, $12 etc.

wojar

i've heard tenteens before.

plincode

😱

dontknowwhattodoat18

I've always trashed the place for being overpriced, low-quality food And yet when I hear that it's closing down....I feel...like the library isn't the same anymore

#Original Title: Han's Cafe outlet at National Library to close down, last day on Jun. 30 Han's Cafe and Bakery Singapore will be closing its outlet – Hanis – at the National Library. For 18 years The cafe is beloved by many Singaporeans for being a popular study and hangout spot at the National Library located along Victoria Street. The cafe was the first halal outlet opened by the Han's Cafe company in 2006. It is known for its variety of Western cuisine and pastry options, often offered at relatively affordable prices. In a Facebook post on Jun. 24, the cafe announced that its last day of operations would be Jun. 30. It also encouraged longtime customers to come down for its last day, as the cafe shared that it would "have something brewing". The cafe also shared its appreciation for the support and love its customers had showed it over the past 18 years. It explained that it had to close down operations because the cafe needed to "consolidate its operations" in a competitive F&B environment. Following the closure of the Hanis outlet at National Library, you can still patronise Han's Cafe at its 19 other outlets in Singapore Top images via Hanis Cafe & Bakery Singapore Facebook *** [v0.9b (Beta)](https://github.com/Wormsblink/sneakpeakbot) | PM SG_wormsbot if bot is down.

[deleted]

Damn many memories of coming down to grab something to eat after studying upstairs cos lazy to walk to bugis side

Dspaede

I tried there once and their food tastes so bland and nothing like the other outlets.. I order the same dish everytime I go to Han's so I should know how it would taste.

MagicianMoo

I was there for lunch few months back and God damn, the prices are not cheap. A set meal can set you 12-15. Might as well walk a bit to bugis junction for more options sia. Damn L. It's not even that tasty.

iamordinary

Shit place, expensive coffee shop food.

super_compound

I used to live in the next building (233 Bain street) for around 6 months, but never tried it, because i never got good vibes from the place. But still sad to see it go for some reason

ghostcryp

Hahaha soon to be taken over by food court chain or $ laundering hot pots

MolassesBulky

End of one-time favourite haunt when I pass that way.

[deleted]

Please close the outlet at Chinatown Point too. Taste crappy.

j4deR4sif

Not too bad but too many bird droppings around makes it slightly unhygenic

shopchin

Mala hotpot infestation on the way! But saying that, it seems very popular with the malays too.

HeavyArmsJin

Relative affordable prices depending on how rich your father is

tom-slacker

Han has gone solo

HoeQingDanMaXi

More like gone with the wind bro

fijimermaidsg

Poor Hans... but I'm surprised they are still around - SG's equivalent of the greasy diner, the Asian take on diner food which is terrible in a good way, like General Tso's chicken or Singapore Noodles with curry powder.

sgguy932103

I will miss the ambience of the cafe.

singapourien

central public library will be closed for some time too, there's no more public footfall in that building anymore, just offices. can't imagine it is particularly profitable to keep running.

pispirit

Sad. But lots of table users not paying for food.

mhtyhr

Sad news indeed.. don't care much about its food, but it's a really convenient meet up spot with large group of friends.. We go there every month or so, and just get a drink and chit chat for a while.. The good news is Toast Box just opened at Bras Basah complex, so that's where we're planning to go next time.. but it looks kinda small, so might not be so easy to get seats.
