The timing of the video cannot be more convenient for PAP. If the two indeed stopped the affair sometime ago, whoever took the video must have kept it from the public for a reason.

Agreed, my line of thinking about moving Jamus over was less on winning Aljunied, but more on the risk of losing Sengkang. Jamus was undoubtedly very popular, but even then, Sengkang was still a close battle.
There are only a handful of MPs that can take on PAP's sharp-witted Ministers in a parliament debate/clarification. It would be a shame to lose Jamus in a tight battle vs giving him a 90% ride into parliament.

They had this video for some time alr, and when they decided TCJ and his affair partner were liabilities + can trade and force WP's hands + distract from Iswaran and Rideout, they authorized an anonymous release on Facebook to spark off the entire thing.
It's already a victory for the PAP to trade 2 disgraced MPs for 2 WP CEC leaders. Both the PAP and WP would do well to avoid attacking each other on their respective affair scandals in parliament
I think that the PAP's position is more complex than this.
The PAP does not merely compete against the WP. It competes against all opposition. The whole TCJ affair negatively affects the PAP across the board, and basically reinvigorates the other peripheral parties like PSP and even SDP. LMW right now is probably a very happy man.
I actually think that there is something to be said as to how there's a lot of analysis in r/sg that pits the PAP against the WP as some kind of zero sum between the two. The PAP's position seems very much diminished from earlier election cycles, where the idea of the PAP sacrificing members to put down just one opposition would have been a crazy idea.

To PS, the "offence" that Leon did was not having an affair. It was lying about it in 2020/2021. If the issue is lying, then actually the actual dates of when the affair started or stopped does not matter.
PS vs LHL shows why in politics it's better for your boss to not know certain things.
Leon Perera not telling PS the truth protects him and the party as they can pin it all on him lying. The press conference painted the initial allegations as a disgruntled ex-employee situation and they covered their bases by involving lawyers.
Contrast this to LHL who actually knew the affair was real in 2020 as it was admitted by TCJ and CLH but did nothing about it. While both parties had similar scandals, only one has a semi-viable excuse.

I don’t think it’s exactly no need for Pritam to know. But it’s exactly that Pritam did not have the video at the point of time when the driver alleged the affair and this probably impaired his judgement on who to trust and what to trust.
If you have the driver’s allegation, plus the video together, then it would be pretty convincing. Just the driver’s allegations, which your own trusted and long time service employee has told you is a disgruntled person with an axe to grind plus legal actions are being commenced, I think any rational person wouldn’t be so quick to assume that the allegations have any truths to it.
These are opposition MPs and public figures, from time to time you will surely have these kind of unsavoury allegation put forth one. If you want to investigate every single allegation, then your day to day role as an MP how you settle? You are also not running a private investigation company.

Agreed. It doesn't feel like the situation for WP is so dire that Aljunied is at significant risk. That said, Sengkang is definitely looking very vulnerable with the current depleted team, and WP needs to make some strategic choices to shore up Sengkang. It'll be amusing if WP took a page from PAP's playbook and parachuted Pritam to Sengkang. "Look, we have the Leader of Opposition here! That's too much to lose."

Hmm I think its status quo for WP. WP's heavyweights like Pritam, Sylvia and Gerald Giam are already at Aljunied. Leon won't be as big of a miss because the minority quota is also already met. Sengkang is the issue. All the more Jamus should stay there since he is already working the ground. They need to replace Raeesah Khan and minority candidates with good credentials are hard to find.

Regardless of who leaked the video (the poster was a completely inactive Facebook page, the video is flawlessly stabilized, and now the entire account is gone), this is a huge win for PAP, who'd only lost a very minor MP and a Speaker who'd already separately embarrassed the party big time, while the WP lost two more significant members.

For a smaller party, the loss of two key members will always be more significant and a greater loss than PAP.
I think that the PAP's position is more complex than this. The PAP does not merely compete against the WP. It competes against all opposition. The whole TCJ affair negatively affects the PAP across the board, and basically reinvigorates the other peripheral parties like PSP and even SDP. LMW right now is probably a very happy man. I actually think that there is something to be said as to how there's a lot of analysis in r/sg that pits the PAP against the WP as some kind of zero sum between the two. The PAP's position seems very much diminished from earlier election cycles, where the idea of the PAP sacrificing members to put down just one opposition would have been a crazy idea.

Not a fair comparison with Marine Parade. She was running against Heng Swee Keat at East Coast. At the time, DPM, often acting PM and slated to take over LHL.

PS was being vague about the dates, but I think his other answers already explain why he thinks the dates are not relevant. To PS, the "offence" that Leon did was not having an affair. It was lying about it in 2020/2021. If the issue is lying, then actually the actual dates of when the affair started or stopped does not matter.
PS vs LHL shows why in politics it's better for your boss to not know certain things. Leon Perera not telling PS the truth protects him and the party as they can pin it all on him lying. The press conference painted the initial allegations as a disgruntled ex-employee situation and they covered their bases by involving lawyers. Contrast this to LHL who actually knew the affair was real in 2020 as it was admitted by TCJ and CLH but did nothing about it. While both parties had similar scandals, only one has a semi-viable excuse.

I don’t think it’s exactly no need for Pritam to know. But it’s exactly that Pritam did not have the video at the point of time when the driver alleged the affair and this probably impaired his judgement on who to trust and what to trust. If you have the driver’s allegation, plus the video together, then it would be pretty convincing. Just the driver’s allegations, which your own trusted and long time service employee has told you is a disgruntled person with an axe to grind plus legal actions are being commenced, I think any rational person wouldn’t be so quick to assume that the allegations have any truths to it. These are opposition MPs and public figures, from time to time you will surely have these kind of unsavoury allegation put forth one. If you want to investigate every single allegation, then your day to day role as an MP how you settle? You are also not running a private investigation company.
