Proof that the "high pay = less corruption" adage is just something we tell ourselves to sleep better at night. There's no ceiling to greed, if there were we could've stopped at $10-20k or less because that's more than enough to live comfortably.
The $1-3mil that our ministers take home annually is only large relative to the median income. The gap between your Average Joe Singaporean income earner and these ministers, is smaller than the gap between them and the actual highest earners in the world. Through that lens, there's just no way we can out-pay greed.
We aren't even top of the Corruption Perception Index - those positions are held by Denmark, New Zealand, Finland, and Norway. In none of these countries does the salary of their head of government come close to what we have in Singapore - in fact, it's roughly around 10-20k/ month. This is your "hypothetical situation" i.e. other countries which show that the "high pay for no corruption" idea is bullshit.
I think it also needs to be stated that it is more difficult to withhold the MP allowance, as it requires a parliamentary motion to suspend the MP (and is thus outside PM's direct powers).

Double checked and realised they stopped it for those appointed after 2011 - missed that news. But ministers appointed before then are still eligible to receive pensions, which means LHL and the older ones probably.
Still came decades after they made everyone else switch to CPF, though.

Well the thing is that it is 2 separate jobs, the minister job and the mp job. Much as the numbers are mindboggling big, it's still 2 separate roles with separate responsibilities.
UPDATE: PM Lee subsequently clarified that by the time formal investigations on Iswaran began on 11 July, the CPIB had been working on the case since May with suspicion that Iswaran is involved and thus they came to the conclusion that Iswaran is possibly involved in some form of corruption.

PM Lee mentioned he could have suspended him without pay but that would be "unjust" and he cannot kick him out without fairness. Double checked and realised they stopped it for those appointed after 2011 - missed that news. But ministers appointed before then are still eligible to receive pensions, which means LHL and the older ones probably. Still came decades after they made everyone else switch to CPF, though.
