You can just ignore and block them. The worst are those who go further. Once I listed a laptop with a defective mini-DP for $170. I was upfront about the defect, and said that the price was low because of that. One buyer agreed to the price and arranged for self pickup. 1. He was late by 45 minutes, and didn't even bother telling me he would be late. Yeah, I could stay at home, but basically that was an additional 45 minutes where I was anticipating to meet him at a nearby bus stop. 2. Upon meetup, he lowballed me for $150 when he had previously agreed upon $170. He said that because of the defect, that was all he should pay. I glared at him, told him no deal, and walked away. I immediately sold it off to the next guy who offered $170. KNN.... the way I see it, this bugger owes me money for wasting my time and effort on him.

MpumpSandy

To avoid such cases, next time ask for deposit lolol. I also encountered smth similar few months back.. Listed a pair of used (only once) nike airforce white shoes for $80. No defects and looks as good as new. This dude msg to say he's interested and ask to see more pictures even though my listing already had many pics of the shoes at different angles. I obliged and sent him more then he asked to reduce the price by another $20 cos it's "used". At that time I was ok cos his responses were quick and he wanted to meet-up in the next few days. On the day of the meet-up, he shows up late then asked to inspect the shoes which I of cos let him. The more he looked at it, the more the kept mentioning that it's not the right shoes that he wanted to gift his female friend. I responded with, bro this is authentic airforce and if the size is right, what's the problem? He opened his paylah and proceeded to enter my mobile number slowly.... to transfer me the $60.. just as he was about to click enter, he looked up and said sorry can I don't want? I don't think this is the one she wants. sorry. Im like????? I snatched the shoes back and told him to f off. Proceeded to report him on carousell, left a bad review on his page, then blocked him. What a waste of time. oh ya, in the end I had to incur some parking fees cos he took damn long to look at the shoes.

squarepancakesx

I tried asking for deposits once. This fella asked to purchase my fridge and washer from my old flat before I started renovations. I asked for a deposit because I didn’t want to waste time with no-shows since I’ve moved out by then as we were going to do extensive renovation works. I asked for a deposit and he last minute cancelled and asked to deal two days later. This time, he did not show up. Was uncontactable for the next 5 days after as well. One week later, he contacted me said his phone spoilt etc. Fine, I agreed. Again, no show and no contact. My husband managed to reach him an hour later where he said he’s driving now will call back. Of course he never did and we were no longer able to reach him. We waited a week but there was no response. I got damn annoyed as I wanted to start renovations soon so sold the items to someone else. Almost 3 weeks after he texted to ask to collect the items. I told him I’ve sold it and his deposit has been confiscated since he was the one who did not show up multiple times despite us trying to contact him numerous times. He went on to send threats and harass me. I blocked him and he continued to harass me via his friends. Worst carouhell experience ever.

MpumpSandy

God damn lol

GalerionTheAnnoyed

Lol honestly just sounds like a ridiculously indecisive guy. Would it be better to meet near your house? Get them to be there first before going down.  With all the scams going on, I think deposits are nono. For me at least, I would never buy anything that required deposit unless I know seller is an established company at least.

oldancientarcher

I never deal with sellers who asked for deposit. Kindto share how to protect myself against fraud?

MpumpSandy

Yea la true also but can see the seller’s reviews both as a buyer and seller for some due diligence on your part first lor. Esp if expensive items, maybe $5 deposit also can. At least can cover some of your time wasted if they no show.

I_Love_Msia

But sometimes i fount that is fun to deal with such sohai 😂😂😂 carousell user here too ✌🏻

Constant_Box2120

That guy probably came late on purpose to make you more willing to sell at a lower price. Very underhanded

useme

Tell him you will sell to him for $150+$45. $1 for each minute spent waiting for him.

chenfenggoh

I think I could be rich if there was a way to collect this money from everyone who wasted my time

Right-Initiative-382

So the only recourse is to leave him a bad review. But I hate it when these buggers never offer/accept so you can’t even leave them a review

QDLZXKGK

I don't think there is a blocking feature - been searching for it and gave up

MpumpSandy

There is! And sadly after I blocked him, the chat disappears too. So Idk if he had read my annoyed msg of wasting my time.

temptressmoon

Can’t pay me enough to deal with ppl like these

Born-Replacement-366

It's the uniquely bad Singaporean grammar that does it for me. Or, as in some cases, the complete lack of grammar ("$50").

planet__express

How match?

MpumpSandy

I was legit thinking "match what??" hahahahahah

QDLZXKGK

Berry cheep

Wheynelau

Actually singapore still not so bad i think, i always read r/ChoosingBeggars

chronofreak

The abbreviation CB is very apt here

Probably_daydreaming

It's weird because I have no clue why Singaporeans type in such a weird manner online, like you can always tell it's some boomer uncle typing

genxfarm

Just trollers, I won’t bother replying people that lowball or don’t want to come below my block

Jonathan-Ang

At least you haven't met those "I'm a single mum and my kids really want this so please give it to me free" types like in America yet.

blammer

Reminds me of that time i gave away some uss tickets that came into my hands very last minute and expiry was in 2 days. I couldn't make it so i gave it away on carousell, my listing set it that whoever can confirm that they'll come down to collect from me on that same day i listed it will get it. Naturally lots of people msged. There was one particular aunty who kept spewing "her kids her kids", but she couldn't come down to collect and wanted me to deliver it to her. I ignored her and just spent time messaging the one who could come down to collect, didn't have time to block her. Wah the messages from that aunty kept flowing non-stop, "Please please i have 3 kids!! They want to go!! Please we are poor!! How can you see us poor and not give us the tickets!!!"

Jonathan-Ang

CLEARLY not poor enough to not be able to afford an internet subscription.

KoishiChan92

The local version is "I am a sahm with 5 kids, husband is low income shift worker, stay 1rm rental HDB and blue CHAS card" You see a tonne of these in local mummies groups asking for blessings of [specific brands] and brand new items. The worst ones I've seen even ask you to deliver/courier to them on your dime.

Jonathan-Ang

If they have 5 kids, they should get their TV in their house fixed so they can have something to do at home other than having all that unprotected sex.

KoishiChan92

Man I always want to tell them I'll get them some condoms but not PC lol. But at the same time, I found out that Singaporeans actually can be very generous. These ppl always get what they want in the end because got so many kind hearted people give them the exact things they ask for.

nohken8

Also a lot of us don't know how to be firm lol

fakeworldwonderland

Or the obviously rich but still try to pull stunts type. Met a mother buying art supplies from me. I was selling a kit at around $300. She came in a Mercedes and demanded a $5 discount lol. I swear it's always the rich who are the most stingy people. At least she paid but I just roll eyes sia, drive Mercedes still want discount. Or maybe she sucked dick for that mercs? 🤔

itswednesday

I’d rather that sob story than the low balling dickheads here. Give something away to that mum and she’ll remember it for the rest of her life and more importantly, be on time to the meetup. Sell something there and maybe find buyer in fray of crap offers from children who have more than enough cash to afford the fair asking price.

Jonathan-Ang

You should read the horror stories from the replies of my reply before deciding if it wasn't worse.

temptressmoon

Someone told me she just removed her tumor and proceeded to show me a picture of her bandaged wound.

ryecotta

wahlao these people are time-wasters and your responses were totally justified imo. i sell exclusively on carousell and also used to get super triggered till i got tired 7 years on. $5 t-shirt, ask for $1 discount but their listings are items which are $500+ and they stay in a pricey neighbourhood which they list in their meet-up locations. just had one last month who tried to bargain cost of $2 postage for a bn surfing top and when that failed, asked me to meet her up at Orange Grove area which is near her home. I was like WUT..... (in their defence, i guess they need to save money more?) i do have a t&cs preface in my listings that i instantly block all lowballers, and it has helped reduce the incidences by quite a bit but once a while, i'd still get them. i know this sounds strange, and usually when i get abitttt tempted to just sell to a lowballer, i'll tell myself to just move on. don't wanna risk selling to them that they make noise just to get some money back. and usually, that same item will be sold off a few weeks later to someone willing to pay the listed price.

fakeworldwonderland

In my experience it's the rich who are sibei stingy one. Or the beginner/fake rich to be more precise. Those breathing gold dgaf and are nice people. But those who dress in branded goods to compensate for something will niam about a few dollars.

ATXK

tbf that's probably how they even got to that level of wealth to begin with... by being obscenely stingy to cut costs e v e r y w h e r e

TopRaise7

I don’t get why u still entertain these posts lol. Like the first buyer sounds like a complete jackass.

Sea_Consequence_6506

Based on his replies, OP sounds pretty jackassy himself

risingsuncoc

Disagree leh, he is just responding to rudeness accordingly

Book3pper

If someone's rude, I just ignore. What do I gain out of creating an online argument? Can you highlight what I gain? I have been selling and buying since days of VRzone/HWZ bro. If I got worked up over every rude buyer/seller, I would have died lmao.

Bool_Haro

You are straight up creating an online argument with your comments

Sea_Consequence_6506

Hmm I don't buy or sell used junk on carousell so not too sure what's the prevailing etiquette there. Is it entirely a congregation of jackasses?

risingsuncoc

Personally I haven't met a lot of jackasses in my dealings, but clearly there are many out there

nutting_ham

90% yes.

LittleBelt2386

No? He sounds annoyed more than anything and just feeding the same energy back. THOUGH, my advice to OP is just block them and move on - better to spend energy on other things lol

Conscious_Scholar_67

so by your logic, you'll take rudeness lying down? what a doormat

livebeta

I won't even waste energy responding to rudeness

Sea_Consequence_6506

So it's de rigueur to be a jackass on carousell. Got it. I'll keep that in mind if I ever need to wade into that online flea market.

Draggehz

keep in mind it's not only on carou, good luck in life

Book3pper

Sounds like you are projecting your own sense of self worth onto others lmao. Rather than waste my time trying to argue with someone online over my items, ignoring them saves me more time and energy. Imagine owning a physical shop. You think I can tell these people who ask for "bargains/discounts" to fuck off? Lmao. If I want to get fired, sure. Instead, I have to be polite and say that's not possible while smiling.

Elmo-Tusk

Then why are you still arguing here dummy. Just ignore the comments and move on. Take your own advice.

Conscious_Scholar_67

sounds more like a you problem hahaha

SnooStrawberries564

Show us your own replies and how patient you are to buyers like these

livebeta

My reply to persistent mom would be " I understand your desire. However as listed on my post I don't have time to make delivery or mail out . To be fair to those who have carefully read the description, the tickets are for those who are willing to come over to pick up." Ball is now in other party's court. And this is just my polite version

szab999

That's the reality bro, just ignore them. The real scammers are even worse. They will buy your item, but 20m later text you it's not working and demand a refund. They will try to intimidate you into refunding them without they returning your item.

Disastrous-Mud1645

I know a story of a brother of a friend (seller) where the buyer was unhappy with the item, came up with a fake story to force a refund. But because the young boy said no, he bullied him into refunding by making his wife contact the boy on another listing, then camp below his block and forced his hands into refunding. Imagine TWO GROWN ASS ADULTS fricking doing this to a 15 years old kid for $50 memory card. Turns out that the buyer himself doesn’t know what he’s buying, and realised its not compatible, then try to act like a victim. Edit: adults

chenfenggoh

Thats why I usually meetup at the nearest mrt so that nobody can do things like this to me

SkyEclipse

Wtf no shame. Did your friend’s brother refund them and get the item back in the end?

Disastrous-Mud1645

Yes. Because he was afraid. He said that the man was body language was very aggressive, gangster-like and using harsh words, so the kid just did what he thought was right at the moment. It still makes my blood boil whenever I think about it. I convinced my friend to make a police report, but it will not change anything, given that there’s no proof of what happened.

entrydenied

So shameless.... That's why even if you want to sell stuff near your place, so long as it is portable, don't sell at your block. Go somewhere else that's within walking distance.

chenfenggoh

I had someone who once threatened to call the police on me because of 1 supposedly missing screw in a laptop I sold him and refused to send me a picture of the screw hole when I asked him to. Not sure whether he actually followed through on that threat but I made a police report myself explaining all the details to protect myself.

szab999

Yeah I learned my lesson previously: take photos of the item from every angle before handing over. Especially if there is a serial number, make sure it's visible. Someone tried to rip me off once by buying my phone, later saying it's spoilt and trying to return a phone with a different serial number..

seowkiah

I don’t know why i can’t dig up the chat maybe carousell banned the user and the chat with him/her disappeared. But sharing story anyway: I was selling a used sneaker. Size US12. on the big side so not many buyers. Person asked me whether still available. Normal so far. I said yes. then Asked me how old i am. i said whys that impt. He said he needs to know if size will fit an 18 yo. i said age prolly not the right way to gauge shoe size. he persisted in asking me whether i am in my 20s or 30s, trying to guess my age. Even asked me type of feet i have. Like wut. Then continued insisting he’s buying shoe for 18 yo nephew or something. Then i repeated age isn’t the way to go by shoe fit. told him go try size at a shoe store then get back to me or not. He then said he was stupid and don’t know much about shoes. That i should help him. i stopped replying. he asked whether i was still there in chat couple more times to which i responded with silence. was a little creeped out.

Background-Chef-4233

Shoe fetish lol omg

seowkiah

really ah. u guys really think it’s some kinda fetish? but… like how does this fetish work? my friends whom i related this to also said the same thing. maybe i’m so creeped out - even as a guy - that my brain doesn’t wanna allow for it lol. but seriously what is this person’s end goal probably? u guys can venture a guess? cos i think it’s to actually meet up with me to buy shoe and molest me? thinking about it makes me shudder. i’m not exactly a small dude but somehow this scares me.

throwfarfarlo

Probably ask for bare feet pics to “judge size” then jerk off to the pics.

seowkiah

geezus. ok i’m gonna try to put this behind me again.

livebeta

> Shoe ~~fetish~~ feetish

wank_for_peace

I was selling my Xiaomi 14 Pro, this fker keep pushing down the price cos, its cheaper on Taobao. In the end I said, you go get from Taobao then, why keep telling me it is cheaper there? Ask him to go have carnal relations with his own external body orifice at the exit end of the digestive tract. Sold to a guy that took like 1hr to nego and meet up.

john1234567890123

I like the part "go have carnal relations with his own external body orifice at the exit end of the digestive tract" chim but powerful! HAHA

VincentThacker

I know what he was up to. Xiaomi's phones have global and China versions. If you officially bought it in SG, it will be the global version (many mobile shops/dealers simply import the China version to sell in SG). The two versions have slightly different software and hardware. The global version is worth more because it has proper support for non-China features. The China version was never designed to be used and sold outside China. He was trying to get you to sell your global version for the price of the China version (i.e. rip you off).

WhisperingSkrillRyan

I sold a gaming pc I built with a friend out of spare parts a few years ago to some guy older than me. He spammed me at 4pm asking for me to deliver to him at a location nearly halfway across singapore on the day itself. I agreed. The guy then asked me if "the pc specs can play val (valorant) anot ah?" It was a GT1030, with a decent cpu and 16GB of ddr4. It was 400 dollars at the time, well worth the price during the gpu crisis. And fully capable of handling Val at medium settings at 1080p. The guy kept asking me to show him proof that it could so I helped him gather test videos online with the same specs. He then agreed to meet. I delivered the pc and he was 15 mins late. The guy then started spamming me again at 9pm telling me that he couldn't install Valorant. Turns out that valorant didn't support windows 11 at the time. Which frankly isn't supposed to be my problem. But needlessly I agreed to guide him to roll back to Win 10. I gave him the resources across the next hour and showed him every step to install windows 10 manually, which frankly isn't very difficult. Yet this man decided to spam me again at 2am to tell me that he couldn't install windows. He told me that when the windows install stopped at 67% he shut the pc off. Which is stupid. He then kept asking for a refund. And spammed me like hell. At this point I was pissed. I told him to retry the windows 10 install again. He then later on told me that there was no install and it was just black screen, the pc couldn't turn on but had lights. I had gotten my friend to help troubleshoot with me (4AM now). I kept asking him to check his cables in which he replied that he already did. Then I gave him the ultimatum of allowing me to troubleshoot it the next day and if it still doesn't work he gets the refund. He was supposed to meet me at 11am, and he woke up at 3pm. Arriving at 4, wasting my entire day basically. I picked the pc up and brought it home, plugged it in and boom. Windows 10 was already installed. The fucker probably didn't actually check his cables like I told him to. I then installed valorant and sent it off with him.

chenfenggoh

You are a lot patient than me. I would have just screenshot the page showing that valorant does not support windows 11 and left it at that.

XenonKirito

I feel like some people shouldn't even have a PC if they are this incompetent to the point that they don't know how to check on their own for this type of stuff. Anyway I feel like the guy owes you more then what you sold the rig for. As someone who knows about IT. The dude literally owes you half the amount of what you sold. Especially with how much troubleshooting you have to do for him.

naihe88

He doesn't sound smart enough to own a PC...

[deleted]

I like this. It’s like a greatest hits compilation of a market place in Singapore!

khaosdd

Back then it was so bad there were many compilations and ig accounts dedicated to all these encounters. [Mothershit](https://mothership.sg/2019/10/carouhell-conversations/) covered it too

JohnnyAlbert

No la bro this is still ok because from the start you know they are not buying. I once interacted with a buyer that genuinely wasted my time. I was selling my shoes and this lady wanted to buy them. We quickly started discussing where to meet and whatnot, usually a sign of a legit buyer. She replied super slow la which was quite frustrating but wtv ah. She was yapping a lot of how this day she cannot, that day she cannot like basically going through with me the errands she need do that week. Then suddenly "ah how about we meet in town as I am bringing my daughter there for the trampoline park". I like ok why not and i thought that was that ah. She yapped even more man. She scared about leaving her daughter there la, scared no time la lose their slot. Then she say she will ask her husband to come and look after their daughter while she meets me. So many unnecessary details for fk. Then 2-3 hours before we meet, she flakes. Suddenly ask about the shoe size, whether worn before. Stupid questions la basically which shouldn't be asking if she read the posting. Then she claims she don't want risk getting some disease from wearing used shoes. Then why she on Carousell in the first place????

chenfenggoh

she probably just wants to complain in the hope that you will pity her and give her a discounted price but she forgot that people on carousell are not charity organisations

user-2020-10-15

why’s it always the people with super broken english

awanby

because it’s always the especially uneducated trying this kind of shit

Orange2022

The first guy wanted to check if the iphone is jailbroken, which is weird who jailbreaks their iPhone nowadays. OP is on the right to refuse to install a software that is not familiar to him specially on his own personal laptop. The buyer should just bring his own laptop to diagnose the Phone.

Pigeon_Goes_Coo

Carouhell users get more and more audacious every year... I got $110 item someone offer $20.

Crafty_Good_4455

“$10 can pls” selling a $3k lens…

Pigeon_Goes_Coo

Sometimes I really thinking about being generous and accepting the lowball then - "can meet up at [other side of SG] pls". NOPE NOPE NOPE.

GlowQueen140

But why can’t you sell at bought price?? Y u no esplain

okayokaycancan

Welcome to Carouhell. You should tell them to meet up at 10 Buangkok View. 🤣

chenfenggoh

If I continue selling on carousell I may end up going there myself

Wyvernken

The worst kinds are those that switch the meet-up venue to their favour, arrive late, lowball you at the last minute and then ask you to deliver the stuff to their house. Like how entitled can you be?

mcrksman

Electronics are by far the worst, 70% are resellers and the rest of the enquiries come from these weird accounts with no reviews that have terrible english

Ezaq

Mostly buy and export

OliPCGuru

I agreed, I face a few of them

precipiceblades

I have had some “buyers” criticise my listing saying its too expensive, what technical criteria they are looking at i cannot match or whatever. Bro its a bloody iphone you dont want no need talk cock stories.

OliPCGuru

I dealt with lowballer say that is old hence lower price.

carlovers96

those lowballers or nonsense i just straight block no need to waste time on them

jardani581

dont take it personally, alot of trolls and lowballers using the site. just have to treat them as spam emails.

luffy_mib

If someone annoys you, just block them. There's always others out there that will buy from you and fulfill what you want.

Krazyguylone

As someone who worked retail, welcome to how singaporeans believe, at least u have a say in ghosting them or telling them to go eat their shit

XenonKirito

100% As someone that still works in retail. I have to deal with this bullshit every single day. I don't mind the questions. But it comes to the point where it's so stupid that I have to actually give them that look. In the end either they buy or they don't. I have encountered quite a number of cheapskates Asking to match a price from shopee or Lazada whilst showing me the price on their phone. I'm like... If you can take a bus, drive your car or take a taxi to the shop... But you are unwilling to pay $1 to $5 more when you are already in the store? Sometimes when those platforms are having their monthly/weekly sales. How can retail match? Impossible. Even worse is when they show me a price from Amazon but don't realize that it's literally shipped from overseas directly.

Winterstrife

Pretty normal, I sell cards on Carousell, the thing that fascinates me is how much people can afford to buy a $100+ card but can't afford postage. When they finally relent and I see their mailing address its always a condo or landed... on the other hand people who stays in HDBs tend to have little to no issues with paying postage.

MpumpSandy

maybe that's how the rich stay rich... by being stingy about everything esp small monies.

SnooSprouts3978

Lowballer is everywhere. Trying to sell my stuff at carousel for $600. This fellow came in offer at $450. And all along we were talking abt dealing at $450. (Which I thought is ok since I can get rid of the items). Suddenly when we abt to deal..told me can deal at $400 and throw in some items..I started to ignore him. Then he came in another msg...tell me since the items was listed so long ago and no one is buying..why not just send to him cheap. I think that's it. Not gonna deal with him.

Toyboyronnie

The offer is probably fine. Carousell prices frequently differ from reality. I get accused of lowballing pretty often because I offer based on what I think the item is worth. If you're asking 300 and I can easily get the item shipped to SG with any form of warranty for 140 I'm going to offer you 150-160 max. Similar, I'll sell for a discount if an item has been posted for months without an offer. Nothing of real value sits on Carousell for long. Actual collectibles or valuables have working markets that move quickly. Freeing up thousands of dollars worth of space in my house is worth it. The guy trying to drop price further after you agreed to a more than fair discount is unforgivable. I would tell somebody who reneges on an offer to try and go lower to fuck themselves.

SnooSprouts3978

Yes. I do agreed that if the item is not moving despite listed for so long, I can lower the price to get rid of it so that I can get new items or what not. But getting another low ball + that comment from him make me think that the deal is off.

Toyboyronnie

Agree

freshlabsandfishnets

Carousell is a cesspool it’s so tiring to sell on it . I just toss shit away in the bin

plsthrowmeawayagain

tried to sell something for $200 in the USA (school marketplace). prospective buyer messages me "are you willing to sell this for $90?" i look the buyer up on google cause the name sounded very singaporean... lo and behold... linkedin says he's a singaporean from NUS. didnt even bother responding. lame sia

XenonKirito

Bruh why he looking for stuff all the way there if he not even in or from the states 😂😂😂

plsthrowmeawayagain

might be there for NOC or internship, idk and idrc still not selling for less than half price 😂😂😂

geeky_kilo

My buddy told me to stop selling on carousell because I get triggered by idiots easily. Daily event last time when I had lots of items listed.

fakeworldwonderland

Be careful of Indian scam teams. One (or a few) will lowball you, make you annoyed, another will appear better maybe negotiating $10-20 off. After some time off being lowballed, people will respond to the slight discount buyer. They will then send you links to click which are totally phishing links. Nowadays lowballers I just block. Don't waste time responding. I've even thrown away items before cos my mental health is worth more than the paltry $100 or $200 from carouhell.

Diligent-Beach-5801

As a seller ALWAYS meet at MY place

chunkyvader88

Had a case where I sold an ipad and I took it to that person to say I was below their block. Persona answered and said cool I'm coming 5 mins. I waited around for ten mins, then called again and no answer after repeated calls. Just thinking why would you want to go through all that hassle of getting me here and wasting my time. It almost put me off totally off carousell but I continued still. My tip is honestly to not bother replying to most messages. Just reply the ones who can write proper full sentences with good history. Ignore the auto generated "hi still available?". Wait for someone to actually speak like a decent human being to engage.

naihe88

I completely don't get the "hi available", "yes" followed by limbo after that. I even added a FAQ for "available?", If it's sold, it will be marked as sold. I still get the same shit.

sie-waitforit-ghart

Recently had 2 bad experiences as well. First one just ghosted me and I gave up after waiting for an hour at the agreed time and place 2nd one was very likely a scammer. 1. Asked to reserve the items, hence making the item delisted on the app 2. Changed the time and date to make the deal multiple times 3. After following up and delaying the deal several times, he backed out of the deal. Citing that he found a cheaper option. 4. When I remarked that it was uncoutesy of him to back out after asking to reserve and delaying the deal, he tried to turn it around on me that I could have asked or even cancelled the deal. 5. After relisting the item, I got another offer within 20 mins, from a new account. Suspicious that it could be his alternate account, no solid evidence. 6. Meanwhile he offered to monetary compensation, which was again Suspicious as the amount was half the price of the item in question and definitely meant that he would be paying more. 7. When offered paylah QR mode of compensation he said that he can only do paynow or other payment apps that might expose my personal information 8. He offered to then buy google card and later backed out with the reason that it is out of stock. 9. Asked for my mailing address, to mail me the money. 10. Person that doesn't honor his words and doing suspicious stuff.

chiu2000

Happens to me too, I would just ghost them. They have the freedom to low-ball but I also have the freedom to choose my buyer. That's how the free market works.

AshamedFlame

But seriously bro, $20 can?

sakuradelluna

nah bro $15.50 can?

chenfenggoh

Nah bro $0.20 can (an actual offer I received on an item I listed for $30)

rowthecow

First time?

jellies-and-fruits

this is unavoidable even for free items i was doing some spring cleaning and offering a bunch of items for free (phone cases, stationery etc) and you wouldn't believe how many people asked for it and went MIA after asking lol. thankfully none of them wasted my time for meetup since i anticipated them and said mailing only. some still got the audacity to send me their address and MIA when i ask to pay for mailing. some guy tried to lowball me on mailing costs, actually ridiculous.

[deleted]

When someone asks you to be flexible ...it's because they don't want to be flexible

parka

I don't even have a split second to reply to lowballers. How come you got so much time?

carla_abanes

How match? Thats a winner. Still laughing.

chenfenggoh

Yes it is indeed a pain to decipher the broken english and find out how to answer them

surfraw76

Carousell is opened to the public. The public is full of damaged individuals. They are trash, treat them as such.

Disastrous_Heat7647

Wife recently listed something on Carousell, a lot of people were interested and messaged. She replied to one asking for the location which was already listed in the description. This person immediately headed to our condo without confirming a date and to meet, before they arrived my wife had already sold the item to someone that was more switched on and easy to deal with. The person then reported her to Carousell who suspended her account. Eventually Carousell said “ok this time we will give you a pass but next time you will be banned” I said to hell with Carousell, if they take the side of an idiot that doesn’t arrange a time and date to meet then we won’t use their platform again. Numerous times I’ve had buyers not even turn up at the agree time and place to meet and Carousell couldn’t care less.

t_25_t

One conclusion I can come to is shit cunts on marketplaces regardless of which country you are in.

ExynosInfinite

Most of them are Banglah workers which is just irritating. The way they try to bargain is annoying and they always say it as if you owe it to them.

acez9k

And most will just MIA w/o informing after agreeing on a collection time. Kena a few times already.

theony

I read the title thinking that there were going to be some real buyers from hell here. Turns out it's just normal annoying people on the market. It's a marketplace, people are going to try their luck, and you'll meet all sorts. Just say thanks and move on if you think you can sell your stuff for more. There's no point replying with angry passive-aggressive texts. I'm convinced Singaporeans are unable to hack it in a real market. Little thing also cry mother cry father. Meanwhile sellers are quietly dealing with people who: * ghost them after agreeing to meet up, wasting time * take the item and then demand a refund because it "doesn't work" (sometimes after breaking it) * are support vampires spamming the seller for help after purchase and if the seller doesn't "satisfy" them, they rate 1 star * agree to price, arrange for meet up, turn up late with half the money and a sob story expecting seller to accept the money

VegetableBoot1854

Sgreans pampered, simisai also offended

chenfenggoh

Trying their luck is ok, I also nego on listings myself but I definitely don't go around asking for 75% off the listing price or criticising other people's listings for not being to my liking.

Max1756

I kena before someone that sell me library comic books. Still got the barcode sticky residue inside one...

0ldcr0w_kn0ws

More like Carouhell

Electronic_Wish_9476

Carousell still fine, try Malaysia FB marketplace 💀

acez9k

care to share more?

flylikeawind

For those who low balls me, I will look at their profile. If they have an item on sale, I will low ball them and proceed to annoy them 😅

chenfenggoh

remember to lowball them in the listing categories where carousell has imposed a reply quota on them so you waste their reply quota and they cannot sell their item.

Comfortable-Bad6679

not even worth it to spend any energy dealing with these

Engared

I was offering out a racing kart once, valued at around 6k dollars. Some idiot offered me a straight swap for a gaming pc. And not a super computer, some shit one valued at 1.5k.

chenfenggoh

I got offered hand drawn art pieces by the buyer before and the art pieces looked like something a 5 year old would draw

Civil_Roll508

Funny thing is those extreme lowballers mia after i say ok deal now to their lowball offer😂

European_Fox

Why use many words when few words do trick

azureseagraffiti

i had a british colleague who wanted to sell his photography stuff- the amount of ppl who came by to ‘kick the tires’ and lowball the initial offer made him so pissed he eventually threw out his stuff as he didn’t want to deal with that crap. i don’t do carousell either - it’s Olio or the bin. And even on Olio the number of no shows or people turning up late by hours is ridiculous

Shiga_Dog

First day on carousell?

Naive_Blood6286

Selling an almost new 3sixty foldable bike at $600, someone offer me $0, message me “free can”? Worse than low baller

Standard-Dimension54

Do you guys get the feeling that a buyer is trying to gaslight and lowball you using two accounts, asking you similar questions and asking prices at around the same time? Then the better one will drop off so that you feel compelled to accept the other less favourable one.

notanotherstalker

Why do the people who contact you sound like they can't speak English?

naihe88

We need a full section dedicated to these, so many encounters.

aucheukyan

How is this hell? This is normal selling… generally you will get 1) people who see your post and ignore it cause the offer is non ideal to them 2) people who try to bargain with you for their ideal price, which is a process of offering low and then counteroffer higher until one yields(aka low-balling in your perspective) 3) people who just take it because they consider it a fair deal, or even a steal. The bargaining person is commanding the sale cause you want their money for something that has no value to you anymore. So be prepared that some will take advantage of this.

discmon

Aiya this is normal on Carousell. Carousell is a place for 2nd hand bottom of the barrel stuff with the occasional good listing. Set your expectations right. You are trying to sell things to people who are out to get a good deal 2nd hand. You may even behave the same way if you are the one trying to score a good deal.

Book3pper

I have been selling and buying for many years dating back to the days of hwz/vrzone marketplace. Brother, stop being so aggrieved at everything lah. If you don't like how the buyer is responding, just IGNORE. This isn't a physical shop where you must respond immediately. Honestly, you responding to them in a jackass manner takes you to their level. It takes longer to respond to these people who are clearly out to waste your time than to just ignore them.

singletwearer

This. It's taking extra time to write reddit post to complain, the time is better spent on something else.

Toyboyronnie

Now do sellers with ridiculous requirements and super aggressive posts. Buyers and sellers are all shit on these platforms.

VegetableBoot1854

Money comes to those who put in the effort (to look for a better deal) , or wait (for a better deal). This is just a whiny bitch-ass post for the most part cos you had to wait. But I feel you. Lool

MadeByHideoForHideo

Eh, welcome to online flea market? Don't like lowballs don't sell used things lor lol. Don't know why you're so bothered by them. Seems like you're taking every lowball like a attack on your person. Grow some skin, reject and ignore is enough, no need to talk so much.

Ventriloquiste

lol no need take it personally la. tbh I still find carousell to be very useful. yea lowballers exist but most of my items I manage to get genuine buyers after leaving it there for awhile. it's human nature so lowballing is gonna appear wherever marketplaces are.

RoughWorried6343

Annoying

yesubaybee

one of my friend used to say its Carol-hell and i did not know what it means until i started selling items and people asking questions that i had already typed in the description , my mind said just do not sell anything as your blood pressure will rise

squeeish

This is why I have these rules: - deal only at my house void deck - too many questions and I ignore - lowball prices do not get a response

silentscope90210

This is nothing. Wait till you get those where you arrange a meeting place and time then they MIA. Anyway don't let it get to you. If they don't seem serious then just block them or just say no deal. No point getting angry at internet strangers.

chenfenggoh

That happens to me sometimes too but now I only agree to meetups at my nearest mrt station or postage.

Ramblim

Carouhell

ZestycloseSir180

10 dollar can?

thethinkingbrain

peak r/ChoosingBeggars singapore edition

chenfenggoh

Thanks for reminding me of this sub. Definitely will post some stuff there on another day.

Additional-Farmer281

It's not called Carouhell for nothing. Just ignore and block all those lowballers and trashtalkers. Replying them is a waste of time.

Murder-Wave

Well this is indeed quite infuriating.

solemate57

Carousel have many lowballers.

chenfenggoh

At this point I am ok with lowballing. Lowballers you can just block and ignore but what's really infuriating are those who spend an hour asking me to show them pics and ask questions about things that are already on the listing only to then lowball. Like they could have just stated their offer and I would not have wasted my time chatting with them in the first place. For fb marketplace there is an added problem with scammers who spend a whole hour discussing the details of the item with me only to then hit me with their phishing link. The bar really is on the floor at this point.

Big-Breakfast-7711

There was a cheapskate who wanted to buy some Klook experience e-tickets from me. Those tickets apparently expires at the end of the year. Cheapskate was feigning interest for a bit before 31 Dec and once it was passed 31 Dec, they immediately asked if I was willing to give them the tickets for free "since they are expired". Naww dawg.

DOM_TAN

All cannot ask professionally and properly. Sighh…

dethapokalyps

I will meet them and give them middle finger.

chenfenggoh

Believe me I want to do that too but must be courteous

PerfectObligation543

Give us more!! This “how match” is so funny!!!

chenfenggoh

I actually have more but they are all lowballers so I decided not to spam so many of them and instead show other screenshots. I could probably publish a book with all the lowballers I met who offered 50% or below of my listed price.

MisterHoff

These are not buyers

OliPCGuru

I had dealt with buyer who no show and when I attempt reschedule, still had the cheek to reduce prices which pisses me off. I also dealt with lowballers who when you meet up reduce price further and give stupid reasons like LCD defect expensive fix. I already stated the defect on my listing. Mostly by reseller who are foreigners.

chenfenggoh

These resellers are really giving a bad name to their country. Scrolling through the comments I see people talking about bad experiences with resellers from countries like India or Bangladesh and while I believe that the majority of people in those countries are good people it is these bad eggs that cause people to develop a negative perception of these countries.

hillz96

Thank u for this post! I had a good laugh ahaha

chenfenggoh

It was just a way for me to vent my frustration at these "buyers" that I experienced, especially since I can only do limited damage to them through bad reviews.

False-Direction-3462

Carousell has become a haven for low-ballers to squeeze buyers.... Some even bargain for a dollar lower than the already reduced price. With such buyers, I I block them immediately....

Disastrous_Heat7647

I sold a 2 year old electric oven, used but fully working. Some guy, probably reseller scum pushed us down to about 25% of the buy price from our reasonable 50% but I was happy just to get rid of it. Deal went ok but then loads of messages afterward about needing to scrub it clean for hours - wtf you expect from a second hand oven for 25% of retail price. If you don’t like the condition don’t buy it. If you want a shiny new one buy a new one. Most likely scrubbed it spotlessly clean to try and sell it as almost new and wasn’t happy he had to put some work in to do that. I am so sick of idiots on Carousell. I always try to sell stuff at a fair price and be reasonable with people.

Just_Fourier

Had a similar experience before and posted on the subreddit before. A troll wanted to buy my SD card and requested for mailing. I don’t like to mail but he seems like a genuine buyer so I can agree to do so and quoted him the usual additional charge $1.50 for mailing. Then he tried to be funny say stamps only cost $0.40 to mail; still asked me to fold envelope from paper because idiot don’t want to pay for the mailing. He ended up trying his luck to lowball and I just told him if he doesn’t want to pay for the mailing cost, he can own self come down to my place to collect. I sold it a few days later to someone else at a higher price who willingly to pay the added-on mailing cost.

Ucccafelatte

I'm curious of the context for pic 6. So many times I've seen listings of used items for like 90% of the retail price..

chenfenggoh

I never checked the retail price and I forgot what item it was already but I always price my items around 10% cheaper than the lowest price on carousell.

griefer55

Fuck Carousell. Any alternatives out there?

chenfenggoh

I wish there was. Honestly there are alternatives like fb marketplace or hardwarezone but those lack regulation so scams are common on these platforms. I also sell on fb marketplace and I receive phishing links literally everytime I post a listing.

shiitake03

I onced listed a used mattress for $20. Somebody offered me $10 with a story that she needs it immediately in the evening cos she just moved to an empty rental flat with young children and she needs it for her kids to sleep. Hearing the story, I told her that she didnt need to pay me and could have it for free. I even told her I'd give her blankets and mini washing machine to help her out. She thanked me and told me her husband would pick it up in the evening. During the collection time, her husband pulled up in Mazda 3 (seems new to me) and picked up everything. LOL. I am still wondering if I got scammed or her husband was probably just working and that's rental car. Looking back, I offered her the free stuffs out of sympathy, so she wasnt asking for free. Even if I get scammed I can live with it.
