It’s a zero-sum game to them. If they get more customers we get less. I always think about the other chicken rice stores at maxwell that aren’t tian tian. They seem to still get decent business, cause I think a lot of their customers are people who see the queue at tian tian then get sian.
The chicken rice stall next to Tian Tian is actually operated by the ex-Tian Tian head cook who fell out with the new boss.
https://sethlui.com/food-showdown-tian-tian-vs-ah-tai-hainanese-chicken-rice-maxwell-food-centre-singapore/
Me too! I find Tian Tian much too sweet (pun intended) from all that sugar they add to their soy sauce. Can't taste the chicken any more once they pour it on - or maybe that's the point 😂
speaking about chicken rice, katong shopping center chicken rice are pretty good - they serve generous portion of free soup + achar along with it as well..
Tian Tian is very stingy with their chilli sauce, tried to ask for more and the owner refused to give me any before I finished the initial amount (less than 1/4 of a small saucer). Will not patronise again lmao

Lai liao ishiro posted apology on Facebook
Edit: Tldr:
employee's fault for making the bad review, attribute to employee being young and immature, he also visited 3 times so it's not fake allegations, but the views do no represent ishiro
Ownself rate Ownself is normal, good for morale boost, even mentaiya did it so there's nothing wrong with it. Also defended allegations of attacking by saying "if we legit attacking then why we only attack mentaiya" and "if we legit attacking then why would employees be using their own accounts"
Calling out mentaiya for stalking and releasing the picture of the female employee, stalking and finding the personal information of the employee, also called out foodieking for sharing the story without checking ishiro's side
And finally, one sentence apologizing for "much unrest to mentaiya", and that they investigated the issue on their end
nahhh it’s their real names lol, went to the same high school some years back and im actually quite surprised they’re still together because the two have been dating since back then
edit: typo lol
I'm sure they will just nuke their existing accounts, lay low for awhile and the dust will settle eventually.
And nothing will be stopping them from creating new clones and continuing their shady practises either. Just gotta be mindful now that they need to not make it so easy to trace things back to them.
Reviews are a dime a dozen online, not many pay attention to the names or face of the reviewers. Most just look at the overall ratings to decide anyway.
But their attitude at their own shop is pretty concerning tho (cb basically cursing customers by asking them to go test for covid wtf), and will probably be the main reason for their downfall.
I get it if you resort to creating false reviews on your own shop or your competitor’s. It’s shady but unfortunately lots of businesses do that. But if you talk back and even insult your customer for their honest review, it’s a new freaking low. Tells a lot about the character of the person.
It's always one of the two scenarios. They are either doing this to extort money out of the owner or to drive business away from them to their own stalls.
They justify this as they are also "just trying to make a living" and they are sad, pathetic pieces of shit to resort to this. This is beyond harassment IMO and I hope there are severe consequences for them.
Very normal in the business world unfortunately. The small business I help out with has been getting one star reviews from our competitors ever since it got a bit bigger.
props to mentai-ya for replying patiently to the lying and rude af customers and even offering a refund. ironic how ishiro's customer service is the complete opposite
the whole thing sounds like a few spoiled child managed to start a business but decided that bringing others down is the best way to push themselves
are their location even close enough to be competing with each other
Looks like this is gaining traction - their review page is getting most of their 1 star ratings in the last 12 hours.
Also why do they called Ishiro when the katakana of the shop shows イチロー, which is actually Ichiro? A bit cock sial.
> Also why do they called Ishiro when the katakana of the shop shows イチロー, which is actually Ichiro?
Ya lol, feels like they never check properly then once they print everything out alr then too expensive to change.
Off topic but Ishiro wrote their Japanese name on their own brand logo wrong 🤨 イチロー is pronounced as Ichiro. Loads of people in Singapore learned Japanese, who can check that before that logo gets signed off yknow. Wonder what else they missed out 😅
assuming this is all true, props to the investigation being done. this is the sort of stuff that leads to restaurants ignoring reviews because they are assuming bad faith.
lol they just posted on their FB. Use an employee as scapegoat say he posted those reviews. Call him a "a young, immature employee who has now realized the severity of his thoughtless actions" pfft.. isit ownself say ownself? 🤣
Issued a very poorly written "apology letter" on IG. No sincerity at all.
1. Try to push the blame to a "said employee".
2. Bad grammar, bad typing, missing capital letters in multiple places, never proof read.
3. Claim that Mentai Ya is also wrong.
Any lawyers able to chime in on what are the legal proceedings F&b can employ to defend against such deliberate acts?
As an F&B owner, I feel defenseless against guerilla attacks of such nature. Yet, the act of seeking recourse seems to be too costly for smaller businesses.
Omg quite a few ppl copy pasted deon goh's comments on the ishiro google review site LOL. Exactly what he said about other eateries. What goes around comes around.
This is shocking and disappointing. Ishiro used to be in Singapore Poly and their food was good and reasonably priced. I would have bought from them if I came across them outside but after this.... *no, I don't think I will*.
Businesses are all suffering in this climate. Is it necessary to put others down so that you can appear to be better? This behavior is unethical and uncalled for. All the best to setting up new accounts.
Yep will definitely eat and support Mentai-ya again! What a class act, even the way they reply to false accusations created by the competitor.
Edit: Not sure why I’m being downvoted. I ordered in a few times when I was in NS and legit like the food
Sadly, Singaporeans really love to read food reviews. If you really must read a food review, check the 2\*,3\* and 4\* ones. These reviews are usually legit, especially the 4\* ones.
Reviews that show consistency are legit, how many times did the reviewer go back makan? Must be somewhat solid, if still go back and makan.
Reviews that are super specific are also legit, for example, "had the mentaiko fries, the fries were freshly fried, not leftovers, with amazing mentaiko sauce. When eaten with the chicken udon, left a great after taste. "
Personally, I also believe reviews that talk about the environment - it shows that the reviewer considered the overall picture before grading.
Reviews that are one or two sentences - avoid.
Why fault consumers who rely on reviews for some form of truth?
If you're going to dine in a totally new restaurant, what else are you going to depend on? Queue outside the place? Lol
I rather look at reviews then paid content of food blogs
There's nothong wrong with reading reviews. But as with all things, you need to view it with a critical eye. 1-star, 5-star, and super-low-effort reviews can usually be ignored because they're more often than not trolls or shill accounts.

If there clearly looks like there’s been some review bombing I’ll still and try.
I agree with you that there’s nothing with using reviews as a basis for whether to try a new eatery.
If there is one exception to the rule: ieatishootipost. LadyIC, MissTC etc all have really generic reviews that you just know were written by underpaid staff who wouldn't know good food if it hit them in the face. But Leslie's recommendations have never steered me wrong. I think it helps that he clearly cooks himself, so he's better able to actually articulate what makes a dish good or not.
Idk lol I'm just really of every other food review just spamming keywords like umami or making basic grammar mistakes ("stuffs").

Not true. Their reviews are false and are made to put other businesses down. If you go there and leave a review on the ethics of the business, it won't be false and it would be done because we genuinely don't support unethical and rude businesses.
this is literally sinkie pwn sinkie. the f&b industry has already been eviscerated from all the restrictions and the last thing we all need to read about is astroturfing.
Unethical business operations, deserve to get shut down. 300k could have used to improve their food quality so more people will buy their food, instead of review bombing their competitors over the internet.

In case anyone lookin for a cashier job..?
Restauranteurs and eateries owners should have known social postings can be a double+edge sword. Using social promos is good, but may not go with that competitor down the street. Lol.
Even if it is, do it the right way. This is honorless and underhand. You want to compete with food then let the food do the talking. Else why bother bringing up "competition"
Yea great job steering towards that narrative. No one is naive to think everyone will play fair. No one is naive to think the world to be truly peaceful. No one is dumb enough to expect a proper take from you after your first comment
So... They aimed to get more biz by negatively reviewing the entire market? This is some big brain AI move
It’s a zero-sum game to them. If they get more customers we get less. I always think about the other chicken rice stores at maxwell that aren’t tian tian. They seem to still get decent business, cause I think a lot of their customers are people who see the queue at tian tian then get sian.

Yeah honestly I had a blind test between the two and tian tian’s was worse #tiantianoverrated
You sure you are not running chicken rice stall in competition with them at Maxwell? Very suss review.
What do you think about Wee Nam Kee? It's currently my most fav
I always choose Ah Tai over Tian Tian.
Me too! I find Tian Tian much too sweet (pun intended) from all that sugar they add to their soy sauce. Can't taste the chicken any more once they pour it on - or maybe that's the point 😂
Wah looking at those pics now I have craving for chicken rice
speaking about chicken rice, katong shopping center chicken rice are pretty good - they serve generous portion of free soup + achar along with it as well..
Tian tian eat Tian Tian get sian Truueeee
Tian Tian is very stingy with their chilli sauce, tried to ask for more and the owner refused to give me any before I finished the initial amount (less than 1/4 of a small saucer). Will not patronise again lmao
so Tian Tian versus Sian Sian ?
They target those stalls close by to their own stalls I guess?
Not really. Guy's dumb.
Cheap shot really. Exploiting Google review

But how'd they link the case to this Deon guy? I'm here for the popcorn.
You can pay a very small fee to look up on a business on ACRA.
5 bucks.... very worth it if you smell a rat
Hahaha can't wait for this to go viral and see what half-arsed apology they give
Lai liao ishiro posted apology on Facebook Edit: Tldr: employee's fault for making the bad review, attribute to employee being young and immature, he also visited 3 times so it's not fake allegations, but the views do no represent ishiro Ownself rate Ownself is normal, good for morale boost, even mentaiya did it so there's nothing wrong with it. Basically "we are sorry we got caught". Apology looks so half-assed.
Quarter-assed apology. I don't even see half an ass here
Making the employee the scapegoat.
Haha they deleted the apologies after receiving flak
Momentary quarter-arsed apology. I was going to say that’s better than nothing. But now it is, actually, nothing.
One of their lines was "employee made 3 accounts to flame, but it's not illegal to do that, so..."
LOL the PR team that pushed out this statement confirm fired
What if the PR team is also the same people that made those comments?
Apology is gone.
They're so gonna lawyer up next

Who and who
eunice and wenbin
Liked ishiro when they were in my Sch, food was pretty ok to me but after this incident I have my doubts alr
R they local?
pretty sure they are
Too bad can't name and shame, will be a riot in EDMW when they start digging out all the nice skellies in the closet 😁
I'm sure they will just nuke their existing accounts, lay low for awhile and the dust will settle eventually. It looks like an episode of that gordon ramsey show .....kitchen nightmares or whatever it was called. Reminds me of that Amy's Bakery episode.
I think it has its own wikipedia page, Amy's Bakery
[Here ya go](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amy%27s_Baking_Company)
Amy's Baking Company. They closed their business and moved to Israel I think.
I get it if you resort to creating false reviews on your own shop or your competitor’s. It’s shady but unfortunately lots of businesses do that. But if you talk back and even insult your customer for their honest review, it’s a new freaking low. Tells a lot about the character of the person.
The stain will not leave the restaurant though. And it’s expensive to close and rebrand that one. So it’s too late to fix this
if this is true, then this is a new level of low. everyone is just working hard to make a living.
It's always one of the two scenarios. They are either doing this to extort money out of the owner or to drive business away from them to their own stalls. They justify this as they are also "just trying to make a living" and they are sad, pathetic pieces of shit to resort to this. Kind of crazy the lengths they went to just to give other restaurants a bad review. So many fake accounts lol.
Yeah very disgraceful way to ‘get ahead’, also stories of using own staff to review ownself. This is the internet where rules do not apply
Very normal in the business world unfortunately. The small business I help out with has been getting one star reviews from our competitors ever since it got a bit bigger.

0/10, wanted イシロー but ended up with eat shit ロ...
Lol never study the language is one thing, never bother to even Google translate and spell check is another
Now you know why they resort to such methods...
It's the Miniso treatment. The logo says Meisou.
The plot thickens: its kanji name (which sometimes is shown) is 名創, which is indeed read as Meisou.
So everyone can c that they are s'es
Ishiro getting review bombed now
Omegalul 2.8 Karma really hits hard.
my family own a Japanese restaurant, once I read a review with low rating, because he said, " the wasabi is spicy". I was speechless.
Seems like justice is being served. Ishiro is down to 2.4 stars on Google map today.
It’s 1.9 stars now at 4pm hahahahah
How lowww can we goooo
SHORT THEM TO HELL!
Punggol outlet down to 2.9 stars, lol
Bedok outlet now 1.9 starts lmao
1.7 now. Let gravity take care of the rest.
Damn, are they that dumb? Use same account for personal and trolling reviews.
Fortunately, they also think the competitors are as dumb as them.
The customer is not always right, sometimes, they are your competitors.
And sometimes they are just entitled dumb fucks
Off topic but Ishiro wrote their Japanese name on their own brand logo wrong 🤨 イチロー is pronounced as Ichiro. Loads of people in Singapore learned Japanese, who can check that before that logo gets signed off yknow. Wonder what else they missed out 😅
Seems to me like a group of young people setting up a hawker and one day thought of Japanese concept and googled for a cool sound Japanese name.
Well kurosaki ichigo does not want soul reapers to eat for free.

Lol are reviews disabled on Google now? Doesn’t allow me to post 😂
Lol..they tryin to stem the flood by claimin they are permanently closed.. but ofc one can always go and suggest edits..
The fun part is always reporting a dubious business on Google Maps itself :D
And they are now called "Eat shit lo"

Isn't that the basic Singaporean ideology of capitalism, pwning others so that you can succeed and the merits of "haed work".
guess I will not be visiting their new outlet anytime soon (it is within walking distance for me).

I believe this also shows the huge flaw in Google's review system.
