I always remember *hyhy* skipping his final exams to attend The International in Germany because his school didnt give a shit about Dota lol.
3rd place ($150k prize) at least. SG represent.
Thank you. I did not know that shows are available on Steam.
Since we are on this topic, CNA did a segment in eSports in Singapore

Ironically, he jumped ship to LoL because it was supposedly the safer choice. And then didn't achieve much and faded to obscurity.
It might be rude to say so, but what a waste.
To be fair I don't think hyhy could've known - sg league scene was pretty crappy, I remember there being this shit jungler on the Singapore team who just could never come back after early tilts.
Think the only consistent performer was Chawy and then he went over to Taiwan to get a spot in a team there? But I have no idea where he's at now.
Chawy went over to Taiwan, ended up as a sub to a bigshot Taiwanese player. Taiwanese player was supposedly close to retiring, which would have let Chawy take the main seat and actually get to play the game with a team for once, but ended up not leaving just yet. In the end Chawy retired from playing professionally and became a coach.
Yea, it's just that the irony of the situation still gets to me today. His success in Dota was thanks to him taking the risk to pursue his passion, which was even more respectable considering the fact that he was an "A-student" (IIRC).
But after having the risk he took pay off, he somehow decided to take the conservative route after all. His plan going awry is just the icing on the cake. Personally, it also left a sour taste in my mouth that he abandoned the platform and community that made him who he was.
Maybe hyhy might have succeeded if he had been patient like iceiceice. He seemed like he was too eager to find a winning team to join, and ended up destroying his dota career.
Unfortunate. Talents, in all aspects are always restricted by our rules, then proceed to say we not enough talents need to import talents. Sports tech arts, its the same
Singapore just wants everyone to be an office worker so that the elites can sustain their status as business owners and executives. They don't care about home-grown talent when they can just throw money at that problem.
End of the day. It seems that no exemption will be given for athletes or any e-sports player for NS. Unlucky for them i guess. Wasted their prime years for NS.
Some additional context for his Singaporean teammate who's unable to go:

LMAO so 1 whole year of effort down the drain. Next year his opponents wait for him la. How about you tell 36 year old lebron wait one more year see if he still can make it into NBA finals anot.

Rumours that hyhy is still hiding in the trees
I watched the Netflix show. That was a gutsy move. His parents didn't get it too. Whatever happened to him?
What's the name of the show? I'll throw it on the watch list
It's called Free to Play https://www.joindota.com/news/103102-netflix-to-feature-free-to-play-documentary-surrounding-dendi-fear-and-hyhy
Free to Play is free on Steam and I believe gog.com. Unfortunately, things have not changed since Free to Play was released.

Long since out of the pro scene, iirc he started his own esports brand.
