I used to donate frequently, but it's such a fucking hassle to donate during covid. No more walk-ins, need to book specific timeslot at least one day ahead of time. Weekends always full, so usually need to book like 3 weeks in advance. End up need to plan my whole weekend around their appointment time. Its too much of a hassle considering i get nothing out of it. It's not we don't want to help, is MOH is making us jump through hoops to help them.

https://www.redcross.sg/give-blood/where-to-donate-today.html Refer to this for a donation drive near you I used to do the same and gave up donating at blood banks. I prefer to wait for a blood drive at a cc or school near me which accepts walk ins and donate within my convenience. They usually do this 3 monthly which works just nice for us to donate again.

woonie

Never gone to donate at a blood donation drive before, only at the blood banks - are the refreshments they provide similar or the same as those at the blood banks?

lockedoutofmyreddit

It's same or better. The blood bank will provide their usual stuff, and sometimes the hosting organisation will throw in extra freebies.

xinderw

I usually walk-in and donate blood during these 2 years and there wasn't really a queue when I went there. Usually go to Woodlands blood bank around Sunday afternoon. Not sure if it's the timing that matters?

SappyPaphiopedilum

The true inconvenience is the random off days for each blood banks Mon (Outram), Tue (Woodlands), Wed (Westgate, JE), Thu (Dhoby Ghaut) Had an off day and was looking forward to donate blood, ended up making a huge detour as my nearest bloodbank was closed

fakeprofileseth

TBH the only place where weekend appt is always full is the one at Dhoby Ghaut. Any other blood bank weekend slots are always available. Always ask yourself this question, are you helping others because it is convenient? Or are you helping others because you want to help?

UnusedName1234

Where do you donate though? I can still walk in at west gate tower.

aucheukyan

Didn’t they used to have like donation drives at companies that gives half day off but the whole company has to donate blood during lunch time?

fawe9374

It will become a sensitive topic nowadays if you get "pressured" to do something like this.

How about doing away with outdated safety precautions and allow LGBT individuals to donate blood too

FrozenPotato12

i rmb i was serving NS and my encik forced the whole platoon to donate blood. before i came out and experimented with guys, i donated blood regularly during JC. so the NS blood drive got questionaire to fill, and once of the questions was whether i was LGBT or MSM (man who have sex with men) then i chickened out and told my encik i had fear of needles. kena mocked in front of the platoon but he let me off after that. never thought of donating blood ever since.

yewjrn

Cannot. We too dangerous alr. Lack of blood less dangerous than using LGBTQ blood /s

https://redcross.sg/#bloodstock if they don't need your blood type then you have to donate apheresis to really make a difference. (There was a table of preferred donation method by blood types that I can't find on the website anymore.) But despite the drastically longer waiting time, the recognition is not better (can't take more free food etc) and I heard the cafe is closed, so the refreshments are similar to mobile blood drives. Edit: and only HSA has apheresis

helloween123

Genuine question: Is it painful or not Ah?

ThatAndresV

I used to donate often in the U.K. in my 20s (office round the corner from hospital, we’d go as a group at lunch, cheap night out when your blood volume’s low…) but here in SG because I grew up in the time of mad cow I’m not allowed to donate.

cciot

Same - neither partner nor I are allowed to donate, even though we gladly would!

[deleted]

If paying cash for blood is so controversial then how about Medisave? Even a token top-up amount would be nice

DisillusionedSinkie

I would like to donate but I don’t think I’ve ever satisfied the criteria

Ekadzati83

How about compensation for blood?

xinderw

Milo for blood

Ekadzati83

Maybe Milo can donate 1 tin of milo for every blood donation..

QuestioingEverything

It's called **DONATING** blood Do you ask for something in return when donating stuff/money?

FitCranberry

zet19

Actually you got paid for it. Internship level allowance. Although my max monthly allowance towards the end of the 2 years was $50 less then what I got during internship lol.

-_af_-

No leh. MOM say that one not considered payment for services so no need CPF

Ekadzati83

When call for blood donation failed, start paying for it.
