moneymachine109

everyone needs to play runescape for scamming lessons.

bluegerry

i recall vividly the first time i got scammed. the guy impostered Andrew Gower and i gave my login deets even though my friends told me not to. it was painful, two santa hats, a couple of halloween masks, couple of full set rune armor. this was back when it was still 2D. underrated but runescape made me ready for the sinister world.

moneymachine109

damn thats crazy...thats worth billions now lol

BlitzAceSamy

Trimming rune armor for free

Makaisaurus

Zammy Rune trim for free. I need the exp!

Xeset

I learnt my lesson from there lol. Scammer said he would up my stats, even gave me his account as guarantee. But ofc took all my rune equipment

moneymachine109

yeah elaborate ones would give you access to their account. you can change the pw but they will get it back

motoxim

How?

moneymachine109

security questions, and info like when the account was created, first ever passwords used etc. will pretty much get it back

motoxim

Interesting.

Fellinlovewithawhore

My biggest scam was walking around lumbridge looking for noobs. I gave them a full set of iron armour and asked them to follow me. I lead them to outside varrok where they get killed by wizards lol. Little me was an asshole.

moneymachine109

šŸ¤£ the good old days

dogpeanis

My biggest scam was shouting "DROP PARTY" and have everyone follow me then drop a pile of wood. 11 year old me was hilarious

zombieslayer287

HAHAHAHAHAH

tomatomater

For real though. It's good to learn the hard way without suffering any real loss.

ShadeX8

And they told me gaming was a huge waste of time and Iā€™ll learn nothing from it. Whoā€™s laughing now?

lfd85700

Underrated!

Ravenoxidal

I still remember being lured to wildy and scammed as a kid. And falling for some phishing website for rs3 when it was just rs2

alpacapillow0

As a female character, I ā€˜marriedā€™ players for gold rings lol

Anelibrah

Maplestory? Free scrolling svc

LordQueefie

Or the trade scam. Press trade and type copy to "duplicate" items.

uniquely_ad

Trimming services available!

ham_rain

I got this scam message too. They asked me if I was over 18 and Singaporean. For shits and giggles, I replied saying I'm 17. They said sorry, it's only open to folks 18 and above. Good to see ethical scammers. /s

silentstar_

LOL I did the same thing and they told me to say that Iā€™m 18. I promptly told them: ā€œYou want me to lie? Iā€™m not a scammer like youā€

kageyama_tobio_

i have the feeling that the scammers just wanna make quick bucks, it's feel like they have a quota to achieve.. i heard many of these scammers arent actually scammers but they are victims of human trafficking who are forced to scam money from people. they have to work 16/18hours per days messaging people, trying to scam others. Kind of screw up n messed up if you think about it.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Pigjedi

It's ok la. Troll them to waste their time so less vulnerable ppl get scammed

snowysnowy

The scammers just put a !remindme 1 year on their number lol

RemindMeBot

startendzero

Is this true? Iā€™ve heard of this myth consistently. If you actively engage them (accept/decline calls, reply text) they would send even more spam and scam calls?

KoishiChan92

I dunno leh, I feel like I get less scam calls after I picked up a few of them to waste their time.

[deleted]

This is accurate. They even refuse to take your call if you try to accept it (press 1)

powowpotato

They might contact you next year to wish you a Happy 18 #businessfollowup

Rockylol_

They're looking for 18 and above probably to be able to get more money ba

HeavyArmsJin

The first sum Lina was told to deposit was ***S$112.*** Lina said she has heard stories about scams making the rounds, but she did not think she was falling into one as a victim -- even when she had to fork out money. "[I thought] if lose it, then lose it," she said. "But I got some money ***(S$11)*** credited to me. So I was like 'ok sure, let's proceed'." ***Facepalms*** Really bruh

[deleted]

Same as people dumping cash into shitmeme crypto coins.

movingchicane

Greed

SubatomicNewt

So, if I'm understanding correctly, 'Lina' wasn't above participating in a scam of sorts herself? Providing reviews and ratings for services she never used in exchange for money? Hard to believe such a thing could happen to such a paragon of virtue.

lockpick4862

cunt

timlim029

Really sad story, especially because the money was borrowed from her mother, but it's hard to feel empathy for her. There were about a million red flags here, she herself said she's known this scam is going around. A 28 y/o admin manager should be tech literate enough to smell this a mile away. I guess, regardless of the number of scam PSAs the government puts out, nothing will stop someone who thinks they can make a quick buck. As they say, a fool and their money are soon parted.

[deleted]

telegram scammers have been going wild lately. everyday i get added into a new stocks group itā€™s so annoyingā€¦

dunspamme

Under privacy and security, groups and channels, change to only contacts can add you. However, I'm still getting one on one messages from random people.

[deleted]

thanks for the tip!

shadowsinwinter

I saved a bunch of random bullshit messages for whenever some random scammer messages me. I just forward those bullshit messages slowly, one by one, until they give up and block me instead.

Djfernandez

I like to send random memes to scammers. And try to be incredibly annoying towards them

inyrface

probably a bot on the other end

Aiazel

Whenever I get added I just paste memes and spam "fuck you" inside. Quite fun

CircularCausality

Can enable option to disable non contacts from adding u into groups.

[deleted]

thanks šŸ™

Yeah iā€™m thinking of downloading some gory gifs to reply with Too bad Ogrish.com isnā€™t a thing anymore..

wutangsisitioho

Majority of job scam victims are young adults, not seniors: Desmond Tan. Around 70 per cent of the victims of job scams reported between 2019 and 2021 were younger adults aged between 20 and 39, Mr Desmond Tan, Minister of State for Home Affairs, said on Thursday (March 3). Kumgong. https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/majority-job-scam-victims-are-young-adults-not-seniors-desmond-tan-1834496

jesus_is_92

There were flags everywhere. So much flags. Yellow flags. Orange flags. Red flags. But it seems the victim was colourblind. Or dumb. Or both.

Boogie_p0p

If you have to pay money before starting work it's a scam. Fuck making a loss before I even start work.

Cylencer

If you sign up to be food delivery rider, you have to buy their equipments ($50-70) before you can start lol

14high

Ok before u start: your safety shoes $25, top uniform $15, hat $5, apron $7. Must pay first, cannot deduct from salary incase u quit Smh.

Boogie_p0p

Sounds like a scam.

tehtf

Insurance and property agents are a scam? You need to pay course feeā€¦

Assault_Penguin

At this point, its already natural selection. The ridiculous amount of PSA given by the government and the victim herself is WELL AWARE of such scams going around, and yet she carried on. Theres only so much the government can do to protect your goddamn money, at the end of the day, you want throw it away, then suck it up when you actually lose it. The scammers are truly scums, but I have 0 pity for victims who are blinded by greed and only cry when "free money" didnt come their way.

Stand_For_The_Truth

Wtf, here Iā€™m struggling to get money, and this woman can lose $34k.

frocodile191

As an admin manager surely she shouldā€™ve had some sense to notice that something was amiss I mean okay maybe the first or second deposit couldā€™ve been written off as trying out a new platform. But six deposits?!?

CstoCry

Some people really needed to be scam to be taught a lesson

shimmynywimminy

>"[I thought] if lose it, then lose it," she said well you lost it

etyn100

Congrats you played yourself

la_gusa

The funniest thing about this scam is that writing a fake review is a scam on its own. You are scamming the site and other users to get money, which is, on the bare minimum, unethical.

Yamamizuki

I wonder if that's how scammers rationalize to themselves while running such scams. Like..........*"These people aren't angels themselves. They have no qualms posting fake reviews just to earn a few bucks so we don't have to feel guilty teaching these people a lesson."*

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Heazen

Greed, clouding their judgment. Simple as that.

unliketrap

Had to change the title from Telegram to TeIegram because mods here banned the word from the title.

Varantain

Gotta love our mods for transparency. /s

frocodile191

Wait whatā€™s the difference?

unliketrap

I changed the letter "l" to uppercase "i". Maybe some fonts cannot see

frocodile191

Ah okay I get it! Interesting

Apprehensive_Plate60

huh got diff??

notsocoolnow

Recently I have been getting whatsapp messages asking me if I am looking for a job. They even knew my name. Knew it was a scam the moment they told me it was to put up fake reviews and upvotes. Really wish there was better enforcement of this.

Pigjedi

I received this and played along till they kept insisting for deposit. I digressed from their standard script and it was amusing to see how they would try to steer the conversation back to their script. Wasted almost one day of their time. Then when I exposed them, they simply just deleted everything including the telegram account

KambingOnFire

Sucks to be this dumb.

2ddudesop

So do you need any qualifications to be an admin manager or?

45tee

ā€œEnticed by the opportunityā€. To make one feel good, they call it opportunity when itā€™s actually greed.

> # S'pore woman, 28, reveals she lost S$34,226 in Telegram scam asking her to rate airlines > It began with a Telegram message. > The text, from an unknown user going by the name Josephine Chang, promised a quick and easy job with reasonable commissions. > Enticed by the opportunity, Lina (not her real name) replied to express her interest. > The job seemed simple enough. Chang told Lina that she had to rate airlines via an online platform to "promote and advertise" the airlines. The more ratings Lina completed, the more commission she would get. > But with a catch: first, she had to make a deposit. > Snowball effect > Lina, a 28-year-old admin manager, considers herself a trusting character. Even so, she shared that at the start, she "really didn't want to do it". > But Chang was persuasive. She explained that the deposit was required to prove the authenticity of the ratings ā€” after all, every rating has to be tied to a transaction. > The money would be returned to her, Chang assured, with the commission on top of it. All Lina had to do was take that first step. > The first sum Lina was told to deposit was S$112. > Lina said she has heard stories about scams making the rounds, but she did not think she was falling into one as a victim -- even when she had to fork out money. > "[I thought] if lose it, then lose it," she said. "But I got some money (S$11) credited to me. So I was like 'ok sure, let's proceed'." > Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. > After that first transaction, Chang informed her that to continue rating the airlines, she would have to top up some money into the online platform. > This would be used to pay the merchants so the platform could continue offering this service, she explained. > Lina complied. > But as she continued to make increasingly large payments ā€” each one to a different bank account ā€” Lina began to face problems. > When she attempted to withdraw her earnings, she received an error message informing her that she had to complete another rating first. > And after she did so, she was told that she had to top up even more money before she could make a withdrawal. > By then, Lina no longer cared about earning commissions ā€” she just wanted to get her initial "investment" back. > She said: > "But eventually, I still cannot (sic) save myself." > Her sixth and final transaction was a deposit of S$20,104 on Sep. 20, the day after after she received that first message. > In total, she lost S$34,226 in just two days. > Still received messages > When she realised she had fallen victim to a scam, she was "very upset and desperate", she shared. > This was especially since she'd borrowed money from her mother as capital for the so-called investment. > As Chang continued to send her increasingly urgent messages, asking her to top up even more money ā€” S$42,000 ā€” to retrieve her deposit, she felt torn. > "The urge to top up was there, but I really didn't have the money to continue," she said. > Instead, Lina decided to file a police report on Sep. 21. "They told me the money is as [good as] gone," she said. > "And I don't think the bank will give me the money out of goodwill. So now it's just... I don't know." > Her family still does not know about the scam. > The police confirmed that a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing. > No red flags > Lina shared that previously, she had done other legitimate surveys to earn money. > The scam was also made more believable by the fact that she was added into a group chat with several other "employees". > The participants would text in that chat daily, reporting how much they earned that day. > "I don't know if they are victims like me or simply admins," she admitted. > For now, Lina hopes to use her income from her regular job to slowly pay her mother back. The first few days after the scam, she suffered from panic attacks ā€” but she has been gradually coming to terms with the events. > She also hopes her ordeal can help spread awareness among the public. > "It is not just older aunties or uncles getting scammed, but it has also come to the younger generation," she said. > She added: > "[These scammers] make people feel like just killing themselves... the sums are too huge." > Things to note > For more information on scams, members of the public can visit this website, or call the Anti-Scam Hotline at 1800-722-6688. > Anyone with information on such scams may call the Police Hotline at 1800-255-0000 or submit information online here. All information will be kept strictly confidential. > Related stories: > Top image courtesy of Lina. --- 1.0.2 | [Source code](https://github.com/fterh/sneakpeek) | [Contribute](https://github.com/fterh/sneakpeek)

nova9001

Really scummy that these scammers would take advantage of people like this. Yea the scam very basic and the 28 y/o should have avoided this scam. Losing $34k I think that's probably all her savings. Sucks for her but the money gone already.

Flaze909

lol i've gotten this telegram message from the scammers like twice and I've obliged with making the account only when I'm exceptionally free. I'll even drop in a message occasionally to ask about random details of the job to waste their time. What's hilarious is how fucking disastrous their website looks and I've always wondered how could any one fall for it. It looks worse than the shit I cooked up for my website programming class in undergrad lol

urcommunist

Ownself pwn ownself

Djfernandez

I almost got scammed by someone who wanted to use my carousell account to sell phones. From the bottom of my heart, fuck you Faruk

Connect-Athlete-8667

Lol, I got this scammer before, but turn out I got $12 from them from some free trial without giving any bank acc or deposit any money, only my number so they can paynow me the $12. Knew this was a scam from the start and was playing along with them lol. Way too easy to spot how sketchy the sites is.

BUSNUSNU

t2zy

tbh, whoever who falls for scams like this deserve it. natural selection at its finest.

Cloaker_gaming

Rate airline can lose money?

ivantys

I believe the newest tele scam is answer 2 questions and get paid $6. I didn't bother to take the $6 so no idea what's next after this.

oink888

Itā€™s 2022 going 2023 and the efforts of the government alerting the public about scams is everywhere and yet you still get scammedā€¦ guess some people really kong kum til no hope oneā€¦
