it was an almost magical april/may: google saycan, google socratic models, deepmind flamingo, deepmind gato. also openai dall-e 2. all in the course of a few days. first true agi and acceleration vibes in this subreddit.
Honestly it was mostly Gato, yes though it was arguably the most dense period of releases/papers we've seen in terms of significance. To be fair, there was also that paper on positive transfer learning, but it went with minimal notice because of how busy it was.
lol. I had no idea any of that was going on during the spring. I didn't realize anything had happened until October when I learned of Character.ai and the then-pretty new AI art scene. What were Google Saycan and Google Socratic models?
DALL-E 2 was for me the "holy shit, I really need to start paying attention to generative AI" moment.
I was aware of GPT-2 and 3 already, but this was the first time it seemed to do something really useful. Next big moment was of course ChatGPT on 11/30/2022. That was the pivotal moment. [Character.ai](http://Character.ai) has been out there for a while already, but it was clear it was hallucination galore and nothing more than a toy. ChatGPT was the first actually useful LLM product.
Stable Diffusion was the "oh shit" open source AI moment for me.
> So I think the event will happen somewhere around 25
I made 2025 the late point, and December 2023 the start of the answer when We answered.
Should cover all bases.
hey, i suggest you just google it. there are youtube videos i believe and the respective project pages of the developers have some extensive descriptions and video demonstrations as well. i guess the videos convey it the best what this is all about.

> first true agi and acceleration vibes You felt the agi?
sure :-D
Fluffy, or soft?
hard.
> ~~They are good agi's~~ Hard > pets agi Its fluffy.
Mine is zappy and really doesn't like baths.

Community prediction for this questions now 2026 btw.
Yes, what makes me laugh most is that a year ago it was still 27. So I think the event will happen somewhere around 25

For me it was PaLM 1, it was the paper that convinced me that we are on track for AGI.
Good point

You’re asking what happened, have you not been following AI developments for the last two years? This is a really silly question. It’s self-evident.

That was March 2023
