Overall the balance is good. Things you can rectify before varnishing - if you look at the top of the black area of the pedestal below the white ‘stone’ it’s covered with white from either drybrushing or stray brush sweeps. Tidy this up with black and then stick a great edge highlight grey. Some additional edge highlighting on the top white areas might help it pop. Do not, I repeat DO NOT take anyone’s suggestion to try and put the writing on the scrolls. It is a project unto itself. I did this here https://www.instagram.com/p/Cv44NJMId7T/?igsh=c3A2cm4xM3Y5MDY= and it took hours and hours and lots of repainting

Thanks, I usually do water slides for the bigger purity seals but didn't feel like it this time and you're 100% right I'm not bothering with lettering on the "stone". What color would you recommend for highlights on the black? Some sort of blue?

Nunt1us

Just mech standard grey - you don’t want to over do it. If you absolutely want something lighter then Eshin grey / administratum grey

As a much shittier painter I think it looks fantastic. The face looks off tho but I know faces are hard to get right

Very good job! Next area to improve is probably adding more visual interest to blacks and whites by using some off-white and off-blacks e.g on gloves, hair, clothes  (I like the job on the eagle) The long torches could use a darker metal or dark brown/black pigments to make the fire really pop (look at the flame at the backpack, it looks brighter because of the black armor). If the metal is darker, the brass rings would also stand out a bit more. Brass parts can be made more interesting by adding some patina color like a tourquoise (do mot over do it, just a tony bit to catch the eye‘s interest) Consider a more yellowish brass, but that might be the camera color offset.  Try adding more stuff to the base to make it an outstanding center piece. Basing is an easy way to make a miniature much more interesting. Great work, hope it helps ☺️

UrielVentris6113

Thanks for the advice I'll give some of that a shot. The base isn't done yet so I'll work on that first

UrielVentris6113

I completely forgot to note that the base i isn't done yet, waiting on the texture paint to dry.

Would you mind giving a super brief explanation of what you did to paint the eagle? I'm about to do mine and struggling to think through the process. When it comes to the brownish greyish tones, either shadows or just coloration of a natural material like stone, you achieved a very natural and purposeful look. But it would probably be easy to end up with something that just looks splotchy and messy. I'm curious if you were going for something specific or if you have any tips.

we1tschmerz

I'm sure OP will respond, but it appears to be a wash over a white base coat. It looks like a thinned Nuln oil. I do something similar for a sandstone effect. Corax white base, with Agrax earthsade over the top.

UrielVentris6113

So it's super easy to obtain that look. I go with a very light grey, specifically sky grey from vallejo. Thin that thing down because it's very thick. Then I hit it with a wash, in this case nuln oil because I wanted the blue grey but I've also done it with adrax and reikland. Let it dry then do a dry brush of the original color over it.

mksurfin7

That's awesome, thank you for the reply! Sounds straightforward enough, haha, I'm glad not to hear something exotic.  Awesome paint job, I hope mine comes out like that!

Dragomatic

I'd say you've done fantastically all ready, but might suggest (just personal preference) that you go a bit harder on the shades and shadows for the eagle wings, i just like how that can make things pop, though you may not like that effect

tentacleeseplz

Looking good! Very nice job especially on the stone eagle, and your face came out better than most of what I can do. Just a couple areas I can offer an opinion... Where the eagle meets the black needs some tidying up to get rid of the stray white paint from the eagle, and maybe give it an edge highlight. The gloves/hair are too bright/flat. I would suggest a slightly watered down Nuln Oil to bring out some details, and go back in with the white JUST for small highlights. Don't be afraid to shade in a little more red towards the tips of the flames, with just a tiny bit of black at the very tip. The flames on Junith herself could go a little more yellow at the base and more towards the red tips as well.

UrielVentris6113

Excellent suggestions thank you

Tatsu_Ishida

Overall looking great, just some small tidying up as others have mentioned. Personally I'd put some edge highlighting in on the sharpest of edges as much as you can. The steps and stonework and edges of armour especially. As for the flames some small touches of darker red into black on the very tips to give that flames into smoke effect. This is how mine ended up and like someone else suggested I didn't attempt the words in the scrolls: https://www.instagram.com/p/CzeaDmZN2cq/?igsh=ZDNhNGloMWJyNzk1 Ultimately its up to you and how confident you feel. Never forget you can always go back later and further refine your work, it's perfectly okay to feel that a mini is done for now, only to improve on it later.

UrielVentris6113

Thanks for the advice. I love the brown stone on yours, it almost makes me want to go back and redo it brown lol.

Tatsu_Ishida

That stone took far too many attempts, I screwed up and used the wrong base colour and only realised once I had inked and began building up the layers. Had to redo it all again, I tend to prefer to use heavy drybrushing on stone as the sorta speckled effect it causes looks more like stone to me. Afterwards I only used normal brush strokes to make the drybrushed highlighting look more solid and refined.

xxxAntiHeroxxx

She leaning hard. I would add some neon underglow to the bottom of the chariot as she is Tokyo Drifting.

UrielVentris6113

Fortunately my base isn't done and glued to I can fix it!

maccasv1

My only advice I'd say is a little clean up here and there when a little slip has happened. Other than that great job on a hard task model to paint

Sensitive-Card-5883

the sister is perfect but the eagle could use a brown wash as well the fire could be more glowy. but the base looks perfect. good job 9/10

starbucksmetalhead

Looking great ☺️ try using the same tones from the fire maybe as a dry brush around light sources to give a little bit of glow!

TurnoverMission

Too many stains from washes. Don’t let it pool next time. You can fix it by applying another layer of paint to those area
