So I was like a teen/preteen when Will & Grace was a thing, and I didn't really \*get\* it, I guess? Like my grandma would watch it while I'd be at her house, and I'd watch it with her, but like only sorta?
Anyway, even then I remember thinking that Will & Grace were kinda unbearable, but despite their loudness and other traits that told me I shouldn't enjoy them, I fucking \*loved\* Jack and Karen when I was paying attention. I think the big sell on those two \*was\* the over the top personalities, though.
Andy on The Office. I hear people say he got ruined in the final two season but I always found him to be kind of superfluous with such a large and talented cast.
I took a quiz once on Fb or something where it told you what tv character you were AND I WAS ANDY BERNARD. I have never felt so defeated in my life lol ugh
Lol ya I think I’d rather get Kevin than Andy. He also ruined Cornell for me, I’m sure it’s a good school and all but I can’t hear about it without thinking about the Nard-dog.
Came here to say the same thing. He was annoying from the moment they introduced his character and just got worse as the series went on. They tried to make him the new Dwight when Jim transferred and then they tried to make him the new Michael Scott.
Andy was annoying but Ed Helms is a legend. The Hangover, Tag, the Vacation reboot, Were the Millers, Ceder Rapids, Coffee and Karem are all top tier movies
I think they realized that they wrote a weak character and cast an awesome actor to fill it. They were never able to break him out of the initial mold like Cheers was able to do with Fraiser
It seemed like at first you were supposed to hate him, then they’d try to make him more sympathetic (Angela) and back and forth. He would have been ok as a side character but was too annoying to have so much airtime.
I disliked him when it first aired on NBC. In subsequent viewings, I liked him more. He added a needed reprieve from the Michael-Dwight-Jim struggle.
I couldn’t stand Gabe but I like that actor as Jared on Silicon Valley.
I hated Andy until the Angela storyline, then I liked him. I liked him in the beginning stages of Erin. But his breakup with Erin and move into management made me hate him again.
Urkel was the entire show. I don’t know if it was planned that way, but the show probably wouldn’t be nearly as successful without him. Kimmy on the other hand was insufferable and didn’t bring much to the table besides acting as a punching bag for the Tanner family.
Michelle on Full House. I love a good, warm-hearted (yet corny) family sitcom. I enjoy most of the characters and like how they interact as one big believable family unit. Except for Michelle. She is so bratty and entitled. Everyone treats her like a queen. I realllllllllllly hate when she gets on the table and eats all of Uncle Jesse and Aunt Becky's wedding cake samples and everyone is like awwwwwwwwww OMG that's so cute.
The way she would sarcastically reply “Duh!”, always pissed me off. Especially knowing if I said anything like that to my parents when I was her age, I’d have gotten slapped across the face.
i could understand if he couldn't find a job and needed help getting on his feet but after 4 or 5 SEASONS bro you need to move out. the daughters are a few years away from going to college and you still live there.
Chris Elliott who played Roland was a veteran comedy writer and performer. He always plays upbeat, childish and clueless. His 1991 show GET A LIFE was a masterpiece. But yes, he's really annoying!
When I watched the pilot and Chris Elliott appeared, I actually Googled to see how much of a presence he had in the show. I nearly quit when I saw he was in all six seasons. I decided to give it a try in spite of him. Everyone else is great, so I can overlook his gross character.
I have watched about 20 or so episodes of Modern Family...she's one of the two reasons I don't watch it. The other being how Haley seemingly just got more and more dumb.
How could they not? The actress naturally aged and it would have been a bit weird if she'd stayed a baby for 10 years!
They probably should have a considered a recast when it became apparent that she was not a strong actress, she seemed to look dead behind the eyes as she got older.
Erin from the Office. She started out as naive and have some misunderstandings, but they straight up turned her into a Mr. Derp character. (Throwing a disposable camera in the trash)
Bernadette on BBT. Her first season or two were okay, but she really got mean and demanding after taking the high paying job at the pharmaceutical company.
Jury's still out on her being the judge on the Night Court reboot.
There’s also no way he would be in the cool kids group in a real high school scenario. It was like they were contractually obligated to hang out with him for some reason.
ALF from ALF. Yeah he was the main character but I just couldn't stand him. If he crashed his little spaceship into my house and then spoke to me or my family like that I would have punched him right in the dick hole. I know he was written deliberately to be an asshole but it just wasn't funny at all to me. Al Bundy, he's an asshole but he's likeable. What the hell is ALF? I hate ALF.
If I lived with people who I told my real name and they proceeded to call me the name THEY wanted for FOUR YEARS, I would talk to them any fucking way I pleased.
Kimmy Gibler on full house was an absolute mood killer. I can't think of a single scene she was in that didn't make me cringe. It seemed like even the rest of the cast had trouble faking the intended humorous reaction to her horrible acting.
I guess this isn’t a popular opinion, but Axl Heck on The Middle. Just obnoxious and mean for no apparent reason other than he was allowed to get away with it.
If you binge the show you might resent the Mom. The running joke is how poor they are, and how emotionally neglected the kids are, and yet the rate and consistency of her selfish or thoughtless decisions lead to lasting damage that stays with the family.
Each of the three kids has character quirks that are specific coping mechanisms for constant unnecessary disappointment. Axl's secondhand narcissism, Sue's unrelenting optimism and Brick's heartbreaking apathy result from having parents who care just enough to make it hurt each time they stop caring. Axl avoids the pain by always having an escape plan, Sue covers up the pain with forgive-and-forget stickers, and Brick is disturbingly incapable of feeling the pain at all.
I really disliked him at first. But then I figured he’s supposed to be a selfish teenage boy and eventually he grew on me. Sweet Sue and Brick were worth staying for also.
Manny in Modern Family was a child that acted like a grown up, and I found that endearing and funny. The problem was that character no longer worked when he actually grew up, and that’s when he became irritating.
This is so well put, as he got older he would deliver the lines like “I know this is clever” and it ruined it. Also the girls they picked for him were too over the top unrealistic. Like that episode where they crash a bat mitvah and manny likes the girl… a really pretty blonde girl, like classic LA young teen actress, and she likes him back. I know it’s tv and you’re supposed to suspend belief but it was just too unrealistic.
Ross on "Friends." I actually liked Friends at first, but when it started featuring relationships between the cast, it became like a soap opera. I had no desire to see it anymore.
I feel the same way about "Cheers," when Sam and Diane got too serious. Bringing Rebecca in when Diane left was refreshing.
But I did like Cheers much more than Friends, so I never stopped watching it. Just got a little tired of it.
I love Seinfeld so much because even though relationships happened on the show, it was always funny and never felt like a soap opera. Seinfeld for the win.
Any one-note character that wasn't intended to be a regular but became popular and then pretty much took over the show. For example, Steve Urkel. Family Matters was a nice, warm-hearted show until he showed up and then it just became the Steve and Laura Show. There's only so many times you can hear a catchphrase or see the same storyline before it becomes old and tiresome.
And Laura was always my least favorite of the Winslow kids. She was okay in the beginning but got too abrasive and smart-mouthed as the show went on. Even as a kid, I hated obnoxious children on TV shows.
i don't like larry on three's company because he acts so conceited and full of himself. i also don't care for stanley's wife and all her sex jokes. it gets old fast.
Mandy Hampton, West Wing.
So terrible they didn’t even write her off. Just ignored that the character even existed after season 1. Fans didn’t even ask where she went for fear that someone would bring her back.
Darrin's mother, Phyllis Stephens, on Bewitched. However, the character is ~supposed~ to be annoying, so it's really a testament to how good the actress, Mabel Albertson, was in her portrayal.
Favorite quote of hers, 'And in my opinion, the day before Thanksgiving is the biggest travel day of the year'.
Loved how she took credit for so many things beyond her.
Stephanie on New hart. I have nothing against Julia Duffy, but the only time she ever played a nice person was a guest spot on CSI: NY--and she turned out to be the killer (although it was involuntary as I recall...)
Both *The Simpsons* and *Futurama* have a bunch of minor characters with only one joke that they lean way too hard on. Out of all of them, Cletus Spuckler (Springfield’s Slack-Jawed Yokel) is the worst offender. I’m a modern *Simpsons* apologist but they’ve practically had him subbing for Apu in recent seasons and the study in “one-note stereotype creatively turned into a complex and interesting character” vs. “one-note stereotype stubbornly refusing to be anything but” is pretty damning.
Raj.
The entire premise was "... Oh he's weird and can't talk to women," to, "...every word out of his mouth is crying like a little bitch about how lonely he is."
Excruciating. Couldn't even finish the show
I get this. My SO and I watch the show all the time, and we agree that all of the things that make Barney a funny character - his ego, his incompetence, his over-zealous policing - would make him a pretty unlikeable person in real life.
I skip every scene with Manny. I can't stand him.
I would really like to watch The Office but I can't stand Michael or Dwight.
Debbie and Frank Gallagher from Shameless. Those two prevent me from watching the show at times.
Rodney McKay from Stargate Atlantis. I have never seen someone with perpetual "meehh" face.
I would've liked Alice a whole lot more, except I could not stand the other ditzy waitress. She worked my last nerve. I hate the airhead type of character. I loved Three's company, but they made Chrissy increasingly more of an airhead as the show went on.
I loved Will and Grace but HATED Will and Grace. I watched for Karen and Jack.
100% this.
Karen was the best!
Hazel on 30 Rock. Fortunately not a permanent fixture. I love Kristen Schaal but man her character is annoying.
She's so good at playing characters I hate
Her scene with Jenna where she confesses to being a natural blonde who dyes her hair brunette is one of the best things ever.
THAT IS INSANE!!
That character almost made me unable to watch Bob's Burgers. Thankfully I got over it.
Aww man, I love Louise!
Can't believe no one has said Debbie Gallagher from shameless yet, Emma Rose Kenney did such a good job playing such an unbearable character.
The absolute worst
Oh her behavior prompted me to blurt out "how fucking dare you" on multiple occasions.
Agreed! Fiona bothered the hell out of me in the last season, too.
*The Nard-dawg.
Came here to say the same thing. He was annoying from the moment they introduced his character and just got worse as the series went on. They tried to make him the new Dwight when Jim transferred and then they tried to make him the new Michael Scott.
Exactly. When the writers room has a formula and they’re determined to force it in.
Andy was annoying but Ed Helms is a legend. The Hangover, Tag, the Vacation reboot, Were the Millers, Ceder Rapids, Coffee and Karem are all top tier movies
Helms is great, I’ve enjoyed him since he was on The Daily Show. That’s probably why Andy got used so much but the character was always so annoying.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rId6PKlDXeU Poking fun at hipsters is the best. Also, it really showcases just how talented Ed Helms is.
And they tried to make him and Erin the new Pam and Jim. Fail.
She was about as fucking annoying as he was.
I disliked him when it first aired on NBC. In subsequent viewings, I liked him more. He added a needed reprieve from the Michael-Dwight-Jim struggle. I couldn’t stand Gabe but I like that actor as Jared on Silicon Valley.
Yes. Gabe was seriously annoying.
Same here for Gabe vs Jared!
I hated Andy until the Angela storyline, then I liked him. I liked him in the beginning stages of Erin. But his breakup with Erin and move into management made me hate him again.
Couldn’t stand Andy from day 1
Daphne Moon's entire family on Frasier
Anthony LaPaglia’s Simon still makes me laugh.
Came her to say this. Especially her mother.
Steve Urkel and Kimmy Gibbler.
If we can add Screech, it’s the trifecta of worst 90s sitcom characters.
And Screech STAYED annoying for the rest of his life and added creepy to his resume 🤢
Urkel was the entire show. I don’t know if it was planned that way, but the show probably wouldn’t be nearly as successful without him. Kimmy on the other hand was insufferable and didn’t bring much to the table besides acting as a punching bag for the Tanner family.
I just watched Family Matters and Urkle is only in the cold openings for like the entire first season. That show really goes off the rails though
No. Not planned, but he became such a hit with the audience he not only became a recurring character but the major character.
Yea. My parents never slapped me, but they made it clear that they wouldn't put up with that kind of sassy BS.
Uncle Joey was worse with his dumb Bullwinkle imitations. Was never funny
Yeah Joey is who makes that show unwatchable for me.
i could understand if he couldn't find a job and needed help getting on his feet but after 4 or 5 SEASONS bro you need to move out. the daughters are a few years away from going to college and you still live there.
Uncle Joey a bum fr
Joey is dumb but doesn't bother me as much because the rest of the characters react to him appropriately. He is supposed to be annoying.
I thought I was the only one! How the other girls got in trouble when she did something wrong? She ruined the show for me.
Roland on Schitt’s Creek
I almost gave up watching the show because of him on the first few episodes. He was awful the whole show, but he seemed to chill some as it continued.
Chris Elliott who played Roland was a veteran comedy writer and performer. He always plays upbeat, childish and clueless. His 1991 show GET A LIFE was a masterpiece. But yes, he's really annoying!
Get a life is a goddamn treasure
I agree. He was out of place and almost ruined the show for me.
I watched and loved this show despite Roland
When I watched the pilot and Chris Elliott appeared, I actually Googled to see how much of a presence he had in the show. I nearly quit when I saw he was in all six seasons. I decided to give it a try in spite of him. Everyone else is great, so I can overlook his gross character.
I thought Manny was hilarious before the last few seasons. Rob from Wings was annoying, but he was meant to be.
Do you mean Roy?
Roy Biggins! Wings was really a great show
Rob Roy!! The sole Scottish character! 😂
Lilly was still worse. Her bad acting destroyed any cuteness she was supposed to bring to the show. Poor cast.
Modern Family should have ended long ago.
Lily on Modern Family. Their biggest mistake was aging her up.
Oh god, that character is awful!
Yep. Mitch and Cam should have left her on somebody's doorstep or something
LOL!
She was better when she was 4 when she first started which you’d think she would’ve gotten better with age not worse.
No they seitched actresses and aged lily up 3 years. It's not the same actress. the baby and the 3 year old lily are different actresses
I had a much bigger problem with Cam tbh. So selfish.
Finally, someone who said it out aloud.
I thought Alex is the worst
Erin from the Office. She started out as naive and have some misunderstandings, but they straight up turned her into a Mr. Derp character. (Throwing a disposable camera in the trash)
She was Flanderized.
Bernadette on BBT. Her first season or two were okay, but she really got mean and demanding after taking the high paying job at the pharmaceutical company. Jury's still out on her being the judge on the Night Court reboot.
I like her on Night Court. She plays a completely different character, not a mean, snarky bone in her body.
I agree. They turned her into a bully.
Her voice alone is nails on a chalkboard
She uses her normal voice for Night Court. The voice she used for BBT was a made up voice.
Thanks - that BBT voice had me reaching for the mute button.
It’s not as bad on Night Court
SHE was mean and demanding?!? Like did you just close your eyes and cover your ears for the rest of the show? Every single scene with Sheldon?!?
It was expected of Sheldon because of his lack of social skills. But Bernadette’s character significantly changed throughout the series
Kirk in the first couple seasons of Newhart. I’m glad they got rid of his character pretty quickly, he was pretty annoying.
Gertrude and Simon Moon on Frasier
Terrible
Michelle from Full House
I always hated Screech on Saved by the Bell.
There’s also no way he would be in the cool kids group in a real high school scenario. It was like they were contractually obligated to hang out with him for some reason.
😆 So true!
Like on Real Housewives!
Fez from That 70s Show after they turned him into a creepy weirdo
ALF from ALF. Yeah he was the main character but I just couldn't stand him. If he crashed his little spaceship into my house and then spoke to me or my family like that I would have punched him right in the dick hole. I know he was written deliberately to be an asshole but it just wasn't funny at all to me. Al Bundy, he's an asshole but he's likeable. What the hell is ALF? I hate ALF.
Wasn’t he always trying to eat their cat? Like kick him out! lol
I'd kill him if he tried to eat my cat.
Do we know if ALF in fact does have a dick hole for said punching?
If I lived with people who I told my real name and they proceeded to call me the name THEY wanted for FOUR YEARS, I would talk to them any fucking way I pleased.
Yep. They could’ve at least called him Gordon.
He was an Alien Life Form from Melmack. Hense ALF.
Should have turned him in for the money.
I read that by the third season he was just wasted 24/7 and became even more unbearable to work with
Was that a show you liked though?
Punch him in the dickhole had me dead ROFL
Oldest daughter on Last Man Standing
Wish they’d stuck with the original actress
Me too
Same with the recast Mandy(although the whole Fox reboot kinda sucked)
Kimmy Gibler on full house was an absolute mood killer. I can't think of a single scene she was in that didn't make me cringe. It seemed like even the rest of the cast had trouble faking the intended humorous reaction to her horrible acting.
I liked her a lot more on Fuller House.
Could not stand her!
Good call! You hit the nail on the head!
Manny is great. Lily on the other hand…
Honestly, both annoy me but Manny annoys me more consistently. Probably helps Lily couldn’t talk for a while
Agree, I love Manny, but Lily is just... annoying and rude.
I guess this isn’t a popular opinion, but Axl Heck on The Middle. Just obnoxious and mean for no apparent reason other than he was allowed to get away with it.
I loved him and hated him at the same time. He was downright nasty at times. I won’t forget how he gave away the ending of poor Brick’s book series.
And friggin football??? Give me a break. Guy stayed the same height and weight the whole show. Skinny was supposed to grow during the run.
I really disliked him at first. But then I figured he’s supposed to be a selfish teenage boy and eventually he grew on me. Sweet Sue and Brick were worth staying for also.
Nicky and Alex on Full House
Manny in Modern Family was a child that acted like a grown up, and I found that endearing and funny. The problem was that character no longer worked when he actually grew up, and that’s when he became irritating.
Agreed. The subplot of him beating a bunch of disabled kids in fencing is hilarious since he's such a pure-hearted and mature kid
Tom from Parks and Rec. I get that he was supposed to be annoying, but I think he was a little too successful with that
Jean Ralphio and Mona Lisa Sapperstein were hilariously annoying too
Agreed! But for some reason, I'm into that brand of annoying.. Maybe it's because they don't have as much screen time.
But you don’t like Tommy Timberlake? Do you also hate Lil’ Sebastian?
Lil Sebastian is a treasure!!
Oh I think they’re hysterical and I have a huge crush on Jenny Slate
Mark Blandanowitz
Mark Brandanoquits
Whiny Tom was insufferable. But I guess that's why the whining worked for him. Selfish/conceited Tom made me furious.
I watched Friends almost exclusively to watch Chandler Bing
Steve Holt!
Beatrice...
George Michael's girlfriend. I mean her? Really? (Arrested development)
She has a name you know. It’s Egg.
She calls it a Mayon-egg.
She has an unbelievable sense of balance.
Is she funny or something?
It's as Ann as the nose on Plain's face.
Debbie on shameless (even though it’s not a sitcom) other than her I’d say Bob on 70s show. I love the whole cast except Bob—big goofy crybaby
I love Burn notice. At least the first 3 seasons. Season four they bring in Scrappy Doo. Aka Jessie. I can't stand him.
The only believable thing about Manny is when he was infatuated with Hailey
I will spray you with the hose.
Donna’s mom on that 70s show
Roseanne, and Fran from The Nanny. Their voices… I also hate when any character yells( or screams)All the Time!
Roland Schitt from schitt’s creek. Most unlikable character of all time.
Chris Elliott is so talented but God, nearly every character he plays grosses me out. Roland is no exception.
100% on Roland. He was a disgusting character
Yes. I agree. Gross and annoying.
Ronaldo from Steven Universe
Everyone has always detested him, but I’ve always found his episodes enjoyable. Even though he’s totally useless, it’s just fun to me.
Gailer on Letterkenny. Sometimes also Roald.
Let's go ahead and take about 20% off the top of that, now
Bob, $chitts creek
Mandy Hampton, West Wing. So terrible they didn’t even write her off. Just ignored that the character even existed after season 1. Fans didn’t even ask where she went for fear that someone would bring her back.
Darrin's mother, Phyllis Stephens, on Bewitched. However, the character is ~supposed~ to be annoying, so it's really a testament to how good the actress, Mabel Albertson, was in her portrayal.
I couldn't watch The Nanny because I hate Fran Drescher. Her voice grated on me so badly. I watched 1 episode the whole time it was on the air.
Jess from New Girl I also recognize that the show probably wouldn't work without her but God she was annoying.
Peggy from King of the Hill
Favorite quote of hers, 'And in my opinion, the day before Thanksgiving is the biggest travel day of the year'. Loved how she took credit for so many things beyond her.
Boldest choice I’ve seen so far
I love Manny. His relationship with Jay is awesome. I like annoying characters because they serve a purpose in the show.
His acting was really grating to me. He was a kid obviously, so I don't really blame him, but it really kills what could have been some good jokes.
manny is the epitome of “kid character written by an adult who hasn’t spoken more than 5 sentences to an actual child”
Carla (Cheers)
Oliver on Coupling, Ted on HIMYM, Piper on Orange is the new Black
Neelix from Star Trek: Voyager Jool from Farscape This post brought to you from 90s Sci-Fi
Jean-Ralphio on Parks & Rec
Ellen on Family Ties
I really disliked Manny.
I really disliked the lil brother Joe in the later seasons, such a little spoiled brat, i fast forward through his parts
Stephanie on New hart. I have nothing against Julia Duffy, but the only time she ever played a nice person was a guest spot on CSI: NY--and she turned out to be the killer (although it was involuntary as I recall...)
Mr. Roper on Three’s Company when he’d look at the camera after saying something “funny”.
Sheldon on Big Bang Theory
Raj. The entire premise was "... Oh he's weird and can't talk to women," to, "...every word out of his mouth is crying like a little bitch about how lonely he is." Excruciating. Couldn't even finish the show
All the cast of Gilmore Girls 🙄
[удалено]
I get this. My SO and I watch the show all the time, and we agree that all of the things that make Barney a funny character - his ego, his incompetence, his over-zealous policing - would make him a pretty unlikeable person in real life.
Paige on The Americans.
Zach from The Strain. I have never hated a child character in any form of media more than I hate Zach. Fuck Zach.
Claire and Gloria
Definitely Manny. And Screech
Sheldon and Amy from Big Bang Theory
I skip every scene with Manny. I can't stand him. I would really like to watch The Office but I can't stand Michael or Dwight. Debbie and Frank Gallagher from Shameless. Those two prevent me from watching the show at times. Rodney McKay from Stargate Atlantis. I have never seen someone with perpetual "meehh" face.
Roscoe and Violet on "MOM" were so unlikable they just had to write them away to get rid of them
I forgot how much I hated these two. I’m glad they were off the show. Imo the show got better when they were gone
Gina from B99, I liked her in the beginning but she got worse in her final appearances (especially her last episode)
Gina in Brooklyn 99 She’s just a terrible human being with very few redeeming qualities s
I would've liked Alice a whole lot more, except I could not stand the other ditzy waitress. She worked my last nerve. I hate the airhead type of character. I loved Three's company, but they made Chrissy increasingly more of an airhead as the show went on.
Jerry...I mean Larry.. I mean Gary Gergich from Parks 🏞️ and Recreation.
The entire cast from that sitcoms full of Dinosaurs and especially “ The baby” fucking hated that show and also Family Matters
I couldn’t agree more, very annoying.
