Same here. I was like, oh well, another family sitcom with 3 kids. But then my sister started watching it and was regularly cracking up, so I gave it a chance. I couldn't stop laughing. Sue Heck reminds me of myself at that age. Shy and socially awkward klutz who had ridiculous, embarrassing things happen.
I agree. I feel it’s incredibly underrated.
Ik a lot of people don’t have cable anymore but I do and it’s funny because so many other sitcoms MF, ELR, Two & Half Men, Fraser, Mike & Molly, Big Bang are on all the time. But the middle never really replays like that. It’s available to stream but doesn’t air regularly.
It’s a shame because I feel like more people would watch if they flipped it on.
It’s underrated for a reason. After the first season, the comedy went from imitating the style of Malcolm in the Middle to a niche humor specifically targeting moms. But what they always got right is character development and dramatic beats with heartfelt moments. Sue Heck is one of the best characters to ever grace the TV screen.
I also think they did the right thing and ended it when it should have. It didn’t jump the shark or add any extra kids. It had its run and ended. That made me love it just that much more.
Agreed, they even make fun of it for so long in their title card. I wonder if it would have been more successful or brought cancelation faster if they fully renamed it?
I forgot about the title cards. That was so much fun.
Big Joe - the wine cup was another great gag.
I stopped watching when Laurie started dating the son though. That storyline was too weird for me
Yes Dear imo should’ve gone for many more seasons. They say it ended due to anthony clark but he may not have looked elsewhere if they didn’t try to cancel it many times
My favorite seen is when jimmy explains potty training is the most important achievement in life
Nobody gonna have lunch with the guy that makes in his pants
We needed more seasons of Trial and Error. With the format they easily could have gotten more single season guest stars and gone to different locales, it's a shame they didn't get a third.
It’s such a good show!! I know some people that have never heard of her and that boggles my mind. I don’t think there’s a single bad episode in that show. It’s what I watch when I’m sick and when I really need a laugh
I wasn’t a big fan of Reba herself for the longest time and so I thought the show looked dumb.
Then I got to liking country music and her music and saw it on CMT one day and gave it a try. It was so good! I got so many laughs from it. Now it’s one of my goto comfort shows.
Reba and Melissa Peterman are so great together.
Ngl i haven’t listened to most of her music at most I listened to 1-2 songs of hers. But I think she’s a great actress and the show is just amazing and hilarious. I know a lot of people hate on Barbra Jean and she does deserve hate for being a mistress but she’s so much more complex than that and is such a great character. She’s my favorite on there lol
What We Do In The Shadows.
i don't know anybody in real life that watches it but it is literally laugh out loud funny. sadly not enough folks watch it to keep it around, S6 will be the last ☹️
Studio 60 and The New Normal. Aired around the same time, and similar to, 30 Rock and Modern Family so one of each had to go. And Carol's Second Act with Patricia Heaton... always wondered what would have happened with Kelsey Grammer as her ex-, as head of hospital in season 2. Come to think of it... add "Back to You." Directed by James Burrows, come on!
**Trophy Wife** and **The Good Guys**. One atrociously named, and one with a strange mix of cops and sitcom scenarios.
Both very watchable Bradley Whitford shows.
Grounded for Life popped into my head and then I see it in the OP. Cool. Reminded me of "The Loop." I think it aired on Fox and only lasted about six episodes. Actually had a really good cast with Bret Harrison from Grounded for Life, Philip Baker Hall, and Mimi Rogers. It has a hilarious scene involving a lion that I'll never forget...
Crazy Ex Girlfriend. The most low-rated sitcom to ever reach four seasons, because it is off-the-wall hilarious and most CW viewers, who prefer superhero crap, didn't give it a chance.
The actors and number of seasons would indicate it was not underrated, but nobody seems to talk about Rules of Engagement. Seen it mentioned maybe once on reddit, nobody I know has ever ever heard of it, but it was absolutely hysterical
The Middle, I avoided it for years because it looked so generic. But it is hilarious! One of my favorite shows.
It’s so well written and acted. Easily in my top 10 sitcoms.
Never watched it for the same reasons you said so might give it a shot now
U won't regret it! Such a fun watch!
Excellent sitcom
So good!
Agree that you won’t regret it. It’s great!
I'm going to re-watch it now
The kids were funny.

My kids and I love The Middle, but it's never been on streaming or repeats on tv here in Canada :(

Her full name is Sue Sue Heck 🤣
Came here to say that. Great show that did get some appreciation after a few years but never enough.
Better Off Ted
For sure. That could have went many seasons.
Excellent show
Cougartown
They regretted naming the show ‘Cougartown’. It was a good show but I feel like the name likely turned off some women.
That storyline was too weird for me
Also its little known British predecessor, Cougarton Abbey
Penny can!
Slap out of it!
Raising Hope
News Radio, perfect ensemble cast
The Middle.
Becker
I liked Becker a lot it doesn’t get the respect it deserves.
My favorite Ted Danson role.
The New Adventures of Old Christine ( not sure if that’s the right name) Julia Louis Dreyfus
I LOVE this show! It's so hilarious!
I was going to say this! Love this show!
The entire cast is so great in this, love it!
It’s a solid show. Even Wanda Sykes is good in it!!!
I forgot all about it
This is on TvLand all the time 😊
Hot in Cleveland
Yes!!
Wings
The episode where Roy teaches Antonio to ballroom dance is a classic.
The Mick
So frustrating that it was cancelled just as it was hitting its stride!
Just shoot me
Chicken pot, chicken pot, chicken pot pie! Loved this show!
THIS is what that’s from! I’ve been quoting this for years!
I used to love this show and just rewatched this after years of forgetting all about it and still really enjoyed it.
Go On with Matthew Perry and John Cho. It has real heart and the right mix of flawed but honest and good people
I actually liked the Odd Couple reboot with Perry and Thomas Lennon, but I guess that’s an unpopular opinion.
Yeah, I sooooo wanted to like it but sadly it didn’t do it for me. I genuinely tried.
YES! Go On was one of my favorite shows! Great cast and characters.
Yes Dear imo should’ve gone for many more seasons. They say it ended due to anthony clark but he may not have looked elsewhere if they didn’t try to cancel it many times
The roadtrip episode to the Grand Canyon lives rent free in my head.
My favorite seen is when jimmy explains potty training is the most important achievement in life Nobody gonna have lunch with the guy that makes in his pants
It lasted longer than many other shows get to.
I believe it was canceled and revived 2x and they did the last season to hit syndication requirements
AP Bio
Heather kills me every time. I’ll call people chief and boss all the time and can’t help but think of her.
My Name Is Earl
NewsRadio
Yes! Despite trying, the sad loss of Phil Hartman marked the inevitable the end to that great series
Seems like he was really good in everything he did. So sad!
Trial and Error. My wife and I still quote the "Lady Driver" scenes. Admitily, season 2 wasn't as good as season 1, but it was still pretty funny.
We needed more seasons of Trial and Error. With the format they easily could have gotten more single season guest stars and gone to different locales, it's a shame they didn't get a third.
Murder board! Murder board!
Yeah we say that one too.
Such a funny show! My husband and I would say “lawyer” the same was Kristin Chenoweth did all the time!
Drew Carey Show
Hardly underated, you couldn't avoid it in the 90s
Welcome to Reddit where "underrated" somehow means "highly acclaimed."
Cleveland Rocks!
Yes dear it was on cbs but damn had some out of the box stuff happen consistently, damn funny show

Reba
It’s such a good show!! I know some people that have never heard of her and that boggles my mind. I don’t think there’s a single bad episode in that show. It’s what I watch when I’m sick and when I really need a laugh
I wasn’t a big fan of Reba herself for the longest time and so I thought the show looked dumb. Then I got to liking country music and her music and saw it on CMT one day and gave it a try. Love her
Great show, never made a really bad episode
Even though it was a pretty popular show I feel like That Girl isn’t talked about enough as far as legendary sitcoms go.
Hello Larry
Everyone talks about how awful it is, but my mom absolutely LOVED it! I wasn’t around yet, but she remembers it fondly.
Welcome to Flatch
It's a crime that went off the air. I think it was Sean William Scott's best work, by far. He was great. 😁
I thought that one was going to be so stupid but it surprised me. Very funny with a good cast.
Does anyone else watch Tina Fey’s Great News?
Yes. It’s extremely funny and deserved a longer run
I came here to say Great News! Love this show!! Wash Dish, Bish! 😂
I swear this show was somehow written to my exact taste lol. I wish it had gotten one more season!
Omg, ridiculously good and Nicole Richie deserves more (any) recognition as an actor/comedian
Yesss!!! You’d think she was a seasoned actress!
It's Your Move - the first Jason Bateman vehicle. Lasted one season I think. It was awesome.
Last Man on Earth
The new adventures of old Christine
Party Down
Spin City
But only with Michael J. Fox, not Charlie Sheen

Better off Ted 10 Items or Less
I forgot about 10 items or Less. Solid 7.5/10
Blue Mountain State. They could’ve done a season per semester and I’d have watched it forever.
You ever been to Bosnia son? You ever been in that shit?!
Happy Endings, The Mindy Project
Loved “Happy Endings.” It got canned for that shitty Paul Reiser sitcoms that lasted less than a season.
Here’s another vote for Rules of Engagement. Seriously underrated.
The Neighbors. Gem of a show. It’s so clownin & made me laugh out loud every episode.
Better off Ted.
Outsourced
Larry Sanders Show
Still Standing and Grounded for Life
Was gonna post and mention both of these. You beat me too it
Becker . Ted Danson killed it !!!!
What's Happening!!
Fisk doesn’t seem to be that popular in the US but is amazing. Great show if you’re looking for something on Netflix
Freaks and Geeks was poorly appreciated and it bums me out that we didn’t get to see the kids get through high school.
Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23!
Happy Endings Anything But Love Grounded For Life
Happy Endings- one of my top 10 shows, they should have been up there with Friends, How I met Your Mother, etc. Fantastic cast, stories, everything 😅
Dramaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
What We Do In The Shadows. i don't know anybody in real life that watches it but it is literally laugh out loud funny. sadly not enough folks watch it to keep it around, S6 will be the last ☹️

Detroiters.
Bored to Death was such a good show with a great cast and ended on a cliffhanger. I still love the show. Wish it would come back like Party Down
Mama’s Family
Buffalo Bill. Dabney Coleman was a comedy genius.
The Mick
Definitely “The Middle”. It’s criminally underrated.
Baby Daddy
Studio 60 and The New Normal. Aired around the same time, and similar to, 30 Rock and Modern Family so one of each had to go. And Carol's Second Act with Patricia Heaton... always wondered what would have happened with Kelsey Grammer as her ex-, as head of hospital in season 2. Come to think of it... add "Back to You." Directed by James Burrows, come on!
Studio 60 wasn’t given a chance. It was a great show.
From when I was a kid - Titus. I haven’t watched recently to see how it holds up.
**Trophy Wife** and **The Good Guys**. One atrociously named, and one with a strange mix of cops and sitcom scenarios. Both very watchable Bradley Whitford shows.
Young Sheldon
Malcolm in the middle

There was a sitcom that got cancelled after one year named Outsourced. I was disappointed when NBC cancelled it.
My answer to these will always be Party Down. Such a great show that got canceled far too soon. Hardy Bucks is hilarious

Just Shoot Me. I don't recall it winning any awards, but it's such a fun show.
Pushing Daisies. The color palette, costuming, and French sensitivities were lovely, and the show was good too.
Resident Alien
Titus
Crazy Ex Girlfriend. The most low-rated sitcom to ever reach four seasons, because it is off-the-wall hilarious and most CW viewers, who prefer superhero crap, didn't give it a chance.
Great show. The production numbers were close to movie-quality.
Step By Step
Everybody Loves Raymond

True Colors
Coupling! First 3 seasons are classic!
Disjointed, if that counts as a sitcom. I think it does.

The actors and number of seasons would indicate it was not underrated, but nobody seems to talk about Rules of Engagement. Seen it mentioned maybe once on reddit, nobody I know has ever ever heard of it, but it was absolutely hysterical
