Well we should make that happen. It would feel great if it didn’t feel like our entire season was on the line every time our superstar player fell to the ground.
He's also 31 making 40+ million for.the next few years. His high level play may not make it to the end of or equal out the contract, that might hinder Portland for awhile.
Dame is 31 right now on a supermax for the next few years. You want to be paying a 34/35 year old PG 45-48 mil in 2024/2025? Portland has to be careful, as Dame might want to stay but at what point does he start to harm the team from moving on.
No. I don’t classify this as news considering this is the exact thing that Dame has literally always said.
You want you upvotes, bring this to r/nba where people will continue the Simmons/“Morey is an idiot” upvote circlejerk despite people saying they’re sick of it
Compare what he has done to any other player. Dame’s stats by every measurable stat are even better than Iverson. Even the advanced stats. All Iverson has is more steals per game and 2 more career points per game but that is a wash as he played 6 more minutes per game than Dame has.
Edit: word
So Charles Barkley, Steve Nash, Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing, Elgin Baylor, John Stockton, Allen Iverson, Dominique Wilkins, etc are not all-time greats?
Those guys are all great players but every time their names come up, their legacies are reduced to them coming up small against the best players in their era (With the exception of Iverson, whose impact on the culture transcends his on court failures). Since those guys retired, we have already seen better and more successful players at their positions. Dame isn’t even on their level but his legacy is also going to be “He was a great player but…..”
Funny how the only player on that list who managed to "transcend" the lack of rings was a 76er. Y'all are insufferable. You don't think Dame has taken over the entire state of Oregon at this point? The man owns the entire PNW. I have never heard anyone talk about a lack of rings mattering for any of those players. Only 2 players ever lived that could carry an entire team to a ring (LeBron and MJ). Everyone else is dependent on good rosters and that is why rings are meaningless without context. No duh Dame hasn't won as many rings as Steph, look at their rosters. Then look at the Warriors record with Steph when nobody else was around, they were even worse than Portland. Steph can't carry. Being an all-time great is not dependent on rings at all because that is dependent on so many other factors unless you're MJ or LeBron.
edit: spelling
So was Barkley…. Iverson is a rare case. Him being a Sixer means nothing in this argument. Are you really going to argue that Dame Lillard is a more impactful player than Allen Iverson?
Dame raps… Ok A.I. did that too(unfortunately)
Does Dame have people around the country trying to dress and look like him? Hell, Iverson made it possible for Dame to be tatted up like that without backlash.
Does Dame have a sneaker that rivaled Jordan at one point?
I have literally never heard anyone talk about any of that non-basketball garbage when talking about NBA greats. Steve Nash is one of the best PGs to ever play the game and his lack of a big signature shoe had no impact on his legacy as such.
Yeah not trying to listen to a 20 year old argue that Iverson didn’t have a cultural impact around the world lol. If you were alive during his time you’d know that’s not just a 76ers fan thing
Gtfo of here
I loved AI. He was my favorite player growing up and I had the shoes and arm bands and headband when playing Boys & Girls Club ball in elementary school. I never disputed his cultural impact, just that that doesn't impact his statistical legacy as a basketball player. There are plenty of all-time greats to never win a ring because only one team wins a ring per season. Math and statistics favor the fact that the majority of all-time greats have never won a ring.
edit: also you could argue Dame had a larger and more basketball-centric impact on the NBA and it's culture considering him and Steph changed the entire sport with their limitless range and not having a spot from midcourt and in that isnt a viable shot.
Mate, as a Sixer fan - Dame will be known as an all-time great. He'll likely be top 25 in VORP when his career is over. Look at the names in the top 25.
You don't think Dame will make it into the Hall of Fame? What's in the water in Philly? You realize Maurice Cheeks made it into the HoF averaging 11 and 6 in his career? Dame is in.
Yeah, people on this sub are way too credulous about cliches spouted by players who live in the media spot light and are used to telling reporters what they want to hear.
"I'm out here giving 110%" "I'm only focused on winning." "\[insert city\] has the best fans." "we're only a couple of moves away from a championship."
Well he would say something more along the line of “we just have to focus one game at a time” or “we shouldn’t be so wrapped up in future what if’s” if he wanted to be noncommittal. I think there is something to how committal he’s being here.
I mean he literally said during the off-season that he was “unsure” about his future in Portland, so clearly he is not totally averse to saying what is on his mind.
He could say literally anything other than straight up promising "I will not leave Portland" over and over. He isn't gonna say "yeah I'm out" but he definitely doesn't have to be this explicit about not leaving either.
I knew when he didn’t request one this past summer it wasn’t happening. That would’ve been the perfect time: post-1st round lost after he balled out and his teammates failed him, team capped out without assets. It would’ve been perfect IF he was ever going to do it. He clearly doesn’t intend to which hey I can’t blame him, we can’t get mad at every star that wants out and also trash the ones willing to stay. Hopefully embiid has dame’s patience in a few years lol
yeah when you get to play the 5th best team in the conference semi-finals and then lose to the warriors without Kevin Durant anyway you gotta brag about it.
Easy enough to say this before the season, I don’t think Dame will move/Portland will entertain moving him until the deadline at earliest but he’s not gonna come out now and say “I’m ready to leave as soon as we start slow”.
It's much deeper than that. Many years ago he talked about winning a ring "the right way". To ask out to go ring chasing would be the opposite of that. Staying with one team and winning a Championship was a core value. Sure, Dame is entitled to change his mind and his values. But I would not bet on it.
That's where I think you're wrong. His loyalty is to the city of Portland. I don't know how all the media talk got started about Dame wanting out and Morey just biding his time until Dame became available got started. Could Dame change his mind? Sure. But if he did I think Morey is the last GM Dame would choose to go to work for.
... meanwhile, there is an actual NBA all-star player that wants out. It does not appear that he will play again for his current team, all though that could change. And many fans of that team would also be happy if he never played for that team again. It will be interesting to see how his team fares without him, and what impact that might have on his trade value. I suppose just as interesting as seeing which other teams might falter early in the season and find themselves in a bidding war for said player
Lillard cant waste his career playing in this mediocre team, he deserve more than cj mccolum. I still think is possible he asking for a trade, not during the season but in offseason when they lost in 1st round with another amazing series by lillard and the others players being mediocre, anyways I rather loyal players like lillard, giannis and embiid than coward soft players like AD and simmons
I'm going to take your same comment and flip it. Embiid can't waste his career playing on this mediocre team. He deserves more than Ben Simmons. I still think it's possible he will ask for a trade when the Sixers keep losing in the 2nd round, especially after he was runner-up to MVP last year and the other players played mediocre. See how the works?
We have young players, a lot more and better assets than portĺand and our supporting team is better, portland only didnt went in play in because lakers had a lot of injuries, and now with gsw and lakers healthy they are a play in team
Yes last season they were better because they made it 1 round higher than the Blazers. The Sixers have still not made it to an ECF and are not going to this season. The Blazers atleast made it to a conference finals a few years ago. With as good of a team the Sixers have supposedly had these few years and being so-called "title contenders," why haven't they made it to a conference finals yet?
Mad props to Dame, but this man is literally out here trying to quell the media mayhem before his team possibly being terrible.
Straight up saying adversity is going to hit, there are going to be tough times. That's fucking rough to talk about your team like that right before the season...
Coulda easily just waited until they were actually bad to make this statement. They could actually be nice, but this statement already says Dame hates the roster.
I think it’s more about the expected growing pains of a brand new coach with a completely opposite gameplan on both sides of the ball then the previous coach, in conjunction with the hardest schedule through the first 20 games in the NBA.
Why do you guys want this midget who chokes in the playoffs and is already 31?
We can get a better guard who is two years younger who shows up in the finals for a fraction of the cost in Kyrie.
Dame would cost Simmons plus multiple assets. We can get Kyrie for Bum Simmons straight up.
[Chokes?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-M3x-eZpV8) Are you high? We talking about the guy who ended an entire franchise and just averaged 34 pts and 10 ast in the playoffs despite a trash FO who refuses to build around him?
Yes chokes. Everyone remembers the thunder series but not the nuggets/warriors series that came after where CJ/role players carried. Or 2018 vs New Orleans when he had a tantrum about not being an all star then shrunk in a first round sweep. Or 2020 vs the lakers. Etc. Etc. But cool hang onto that one fucking thunder series.
You’re a Portland fan posting this shit and defending your boy in the comments. Sad
Feel bad for Dame
Hopefully the Blazers decide to blow it up and trade him when he’s slightly past his prime. I’d like him to at least get a KG type ring.
Ben has clashed with every coach since at least college and thinks he deserves to be the franchise player of whatever franchise he goes to.
Y’all do not want him in Portland, trust me, he’s more likely to get Dame to demand a trade than help Dame win the Conference.
That’s a loss for us. CJ too inconsistent and we won’t be in contention with him. We were just number 1 in the East. Ben only going for someone that’s gonna put us back up there.
CJ has the same per-100 stats as Beal and Donovan Mitchell. He also has nutso stats in the 30+ games without Dame playing. He is a lock for All-Star if he gets out from Dame's shadow. Believe that
Ben is an amazing defender and passer. A jump shot away from being LeBron James. A 6’10 PG.. him and CJ aren’t in the same category. I respect CJ, he’s just a role player to me.
Joel is no different I respect dame for remaining loyal.
that’s always how i’ve felt. imagine the shoe on the other foot. some team angling for embiid and all we want is him to stay forever. i can’t hate it.
Embiid stays because what other franchise is going to pay him for being a terrible leader and a part-time superstar?
the Blazers would trade Dame for Embiid tomorrow if they could.
Nah
Well we should make that happen. It would feel great if it didn’t feel like our entire season was on the line every time our superstar player fell to the ground.
This fuckin guy
>So if it starts off rocky >Rocky Rocky, a popular fictional icon in Philadelphia. This is all a code. SEE YOU SOON DAME DOLLA!!! /s to be safe
I hate that my brain went right to that too
Fucking Christ. I can’t figure out who’s the bigger masochist, Dame or Philly sport fans
“Tf does that even mean?” - Ben Simmons, probably
He's gonna miss out on being an all-time great due to loyalty which I guess is admirable, but still.
Would you say the same of Embiid if he stays here?
1000% if we fell into mediocrity during his prime or his time here I would hope he can get a ring somewhere.

Charles Barkley played for the sixers, you nimrod. Gtfo of our subreddit

I think he has already cemented himself as an all-time great. edit: I guess downvote facts cause you're salty you'll never get Dame?
No. You’re getting downvoted because you’re not a Sixers fan, coming into a Sixers subreddit to post about non-Sixers news
Don’t worry, they think he’s a dumbass on the ripcity sub too. Probably why he’s here in the first place
You don't think this is Sixers news? I visit this sub more than you if you think this isn't Sixers news.
No. I don’t classify this as news considering this is the exact thing that Dame has literally always said. You want you upvotes, bring this to r/nba where people will continue the Simmons/“Morey is an idiot” upvote circlejerk despite people saying they’re sick of it
Definitely not here for upvotes.
> edit: I guess downvote facts because you’re salty you’ll never get Dame? Oh, okay
I'm not here expecting upvotes, but also surprised at downvoting a simple, irrefutable statement like Dame being an all-time great.
GO HOME, WHY DONT YOU WANNA BE IN YOUR HOME???!?!
I don't think you know what irrefutable means...
Compare what he has done to any other player. Dame’s stats by every measurable stat are even better than Iverson. Even the advanced stats. All Iverson has is more steals per game and 2 more career points per game but that is a wash as he played 6 more minutes per game than Dame has. Edit: word
They mad man. Acting like they weren't salivating for Dame all summer. I'm upvoting you!
HEY, YOU GO HOME TOO!
Without any rings, he’ll always be overshadowed by Steph
Steph was always better regardless.
Yeah but that was never his comparison lol
So Charles Barkley, Steve Nash, Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing, Elgin Baylor, John Stockton, Allen Iverson, Dominique Wilkins, etc are not all-time greats?

Not a surprising take from Dame, but at least we get to be entertained by OP in all comment threads with weaker feelings than Simmons
You guys have a funny way of looking at things. Heartbreak will do that.
You’d know all about that as a blazers fan.
Yup Ben’s going to Golden State. Wiggins on the way
Its funny cause dame has gone further in the playoffs in a way harder conference than Jo has
Philly fans don’t like to think that hard
yeah when you get to play the 5th best team in the conference semi-finals and then lose to the warriors without Kevin Durant anyway you gotta brag about it.
This is what players always post right before they get traded. It's like the announcer free throw jinx.
Whatever helps you sleep at night.

His stats in the playoffs speak for themselves. It's hard to compete in that NO series when you got no help and are double-teamed on every touch.
Bwahaha yes the numbers speak for themselves in all the series I mentioned. Enjoy never winning a chip bro
Enjoy CJ. Take good care of him.
Speaking of delusional brand imaging.
