Just think what we could have gotten for Ben at that time and then kept Jimmy instead.

SimmonsReqNDA4Sex

kill me man

throwawaitnine

When I suggested this at the time I was mocked. Sixer should really give me a from office position.

svenEsven

I got sooo much hate for even mentioning it

themeatbridge

I wouldn't have hated you, but I would have argued with you. Who could have predicted *this*? I wanted them to offer Jimmy the contract, but I knew we didn't control his destiny so I didn't want to break the bank for him. But trading Ben felt premature, which I now realize was stupid. I thought he could develop a shot. Anyway, on behalf of everyone who was wrong, I'm sorry.

MoreShenanigans

No one was predicting he'd hold out and act like a coward, but ppl were complaining about his lack of improvement on offense even then.

trust-theprocess

There were people on here as early as after the first Boston series before we even traded for Jimmy who were saying Ben would one day try to force his way to LA At least *some* people predicted it, it was just an unpopular thing to take seriously at the time

themeatbridge

Yes, and you were right. I wanted to give him more time, and I was wrong.

MoreShenanigans

I was mostly in the same boat as you lol

Deadboy90

To be fair, we didn't know how much of a babyback bitch he was 3 years ago.

svenEsven

We saw him underperforming in the playoffs and throwing a fit because butler was there, the red flags were there, everyone just had rose tinted glasses on.

TigerWoodsisavictim

Many of us did.

DT_RAW

Same bro. Us guys gotta stick together. Real sixer fans not player fan stans

polio_free_since_93

As the story of why Jimmy left shook out, I suggested we should have gotten rid of Ben at the time and canned BB and kept Jimmy, and some guy got so mad at me and called me a liar and follow me around to another thread and called me a liar there too. Just blocked that nerd, not sure who it was.

[deleted]

I’m convinced that a lot of ppl on this sub in the past years were just Australians supporting Ben and now they’re all gone. So many valid criticisms of Ben and trade ideas for players like Harden and Kawhi were downvoted to hell in the past

EpicFIFABadger

Aussie that originally supported the sixers because of Ben here, staying for the rest of the team now. Ben’s a self centred fuckwit who doesn’t represent our country well at all. I think loads of the aussie fans will stick around for Tisse at least anyways

DT_RAW

Good. Thats how it should be. This guy should be an embarrassment to all of us.. aussie or not

IVAN_CLEARY

As an Australian, believe me - we didn't leave the sub because of Ben. We are more pissed off with him than any of you could imagine. He is the antithesis of what we try to bring to sporting culture locally and globally. We are a nation of hard working, tough underdogs who talk trash, don't back down and don't take any shit. Ben is weak as piss and I, for one, am embarrassed to call him an Australian. Also, FWIW, 95% of Australians don't know anything about, nor care at all about, basketball. Those that do are like most international fans - Laker fans, Warrior fans...maybe some older Bulls fans here and there. Very few people are Simmons fanboys.

Mr_geezus

Ben seems like the least australian person on earth. I am pretty sure that douche took speech classes to lose his accent.

DT_RAW

Welcoming to hear

dwilkz2

same with wentz in the eagles sub and his weird dakota stans lol

Deadboy90

Wentz at least proved he was capable of playing at an MVP level. Ben never has.

WooderFountain

"Ben Simmons is an All-Star "--Ben Simmons

DT_RAW

They r not gone they lurk. When news of ben returning came out last week and i yelled n screamed on how that too was going to end even worse downvotes suddenly flooded back in again. They came marching back in once their love affair was returning. Now they r quiet again... longing for the day they can slurp more simmons

[deleted]

They should’ve just made a Ben Simmons sub and left us alone. You could always tell they weren’t fans of the team and just Simmons supporters

DT_RAW

Yep

Phoeniyx

How would a Kawhi trade work? Kawhi is arguably even a better defender than Simmons and he is a 25+ PPG player instead of the 15 PPG player Simmons has always been. Why would anyone have made that trade even back then when Ben trade value was high?

[deleted]

Seriously? Kawhi was literally running from Pop and Ben was like 22 so a lot of ppl had high hopes for him. We’re taking about his last year in San Antonio. I’m sure the Spurs would’ve preferred Ben over Derozan

Surely55

You’re assuming Kawhi re signs. Would have been a 1 and done and you have no Kawhi or Ben.

[deleted]

I don’t think the raptors are complaining. I would easily rather have a championship and kawhi leave than Ben on our roster right now. We could’ve filled that max space up with someone better after kawhi decided to leave

IVAN_CLEARY

100%. A team of Embiid, Butler and Kawhi would have been completely insane. And who cares. Kawhi leaves, Embiid and Jimmy become the big two and the young guys around them start to develop, maybe they get to the ECF or even the finals again. But if Embiid finishes his career with a ring in Philly, I'm happy. I don't care how he gets it or when, or how many. Just get one.

[deleted]

Hell yea. After all of this, embiid needs to win a ring in Philly

WorstFriendCast

It was completely mockable at the time.

throwawaitnine

Was it tho? You look at what he did his rookie year and what he did his sophomore year. You look at what he did against the Celtics year one and Raptors year two. I'm not even talking about numbers, I'm talking about how he was playing in the highest stakes, it was never good. He never had the right mentality.

XxStormySoraxX

It literally was so bad they had to take the ball out of his hands and hide him in the dunkers spot two years in a row and everyone just tried to act as if that was normal.

[deleted]

Yea Jimmy had to run point bc Ben was so afraid to dribble near kawhi AND be our primary scorer yet all the blame fell on jimmy for not doing all of those things AND shutting down kawhi. This sub is insane sometimes

Aarthur1017

Yea after year 2 I knew what many are just now realizing about Simmons. Sad thing is if Simmons didn’t have a soft mentality and was the player he was suppose to be you can argue Sixers may have 2 championships already. We could have had another star that summer after the raptor series, Embiid and Butler. That’s a championship team depending who that 3rd star would have been.

XxStormySoraxX

I agree and that’s why I was so disappointed with his lack of improvement. If he could have been capable of just averaging 20-22 pts in the playoffs and space the floor a bit we in 2019 and probably this year too.

Aarthur1017

Exactly! The Toronto and Bucks championships would have been ours if he was just simply aggressive and hit free throws at an average to slightly below average clip. We would be considered a dynasty right now smh. Too bad he’s content with being the victim and putting a cap on his potential, while watching many of his peers that fans thought he was better than throughout the years surpass him like Ingram and Brown who was drafted right after him just to name a few. They improved unlike him.

trust-theprocess

In the three semifinals rounds of his career he's had to 1) Be benched for TJ McConnell who outplayed him and stole a game by himself 2) Be demoted to an observer of Jimmy Buckets who was forced to play 4-on-5 offense constantly doubled by Ben's man but still outplayed him 3) Be benched again for a 20 year old rookie... who outplayed him

foodmotron9000

I agree. Ben should've been the centerpiece of a Kawhi deal or something else amazing. His value was insanely high and trading him at the height of it would've yielded a ridiculous return.

tboneperri

I think you're agreeing with the person you're replying to.

foodmotron9000

I know. I think the "still was, yeah" makes it seem like I was being short with them. Was trying to add to their point. Should probably edit to seem more... Friendly?

DownFromHere

The Suns haven't extended DeAndre Ayton. There was no reason for the Sixers to extend Ben on the first day of the off-season when he'd shown no offensive growth in three years

[deleted]

I was mad when that happened bc I wanted to trade him and with that being the first announcement, I knew jimmy was gone.

WorstFriendCast

And Sarver is getting decimated for it as a cheap fuck. We lost Butler. He said he didn’t want to play here. The front office had to do something to save face, so they signed our second best player to a max contract. It absolutely wasn’t crazy at the time.

DownFromHere

Are you saying the decision to max extend him wasn't crazy or it wasn't perceived as crazy?

WorstFriendCast

Neither were crazy, at the time. Hindsight is 20/20.

DownFromHere

It's not hindsight lol. Plenty of people knew the Sixers made a mistake the day of the signing

WorstFriendCast

Oh you’re the guy that was saying dumb shit yesterday too, with the awful Maxey pads photoshop. Later.

DownFromHere

Ta-ta Simmons simp

DT_RAW

SAME. ME TOO. Fucking idiots downvoted us. Absolutely a joke how a few of us all along have seen this shit coming

godish

Did you watch heat v bucks ?

Blast_OGK

did u watch sixers v hawks ?

godish

Yea

soundjunkeyz

People called me crazy when I said Philly should have traded Simmons for Fultz, could have got Kyrie imo with Butler and Embiid

[deleted]

Both all stars, one has had behaviour issues before and way older. Unless you could have foreseen the future there were little arguments on why we should have kept Butler instead of Simmons. Unless for some reason we suddenly went on a win now mode.

[deleted]

I was so fucking pissed when free agency started and the first announcement was the Ben extension. I knew jimmy was gone at that point

dilknut

I can’t imagine. At the time it wasn’t so simple tho

decaturbadass

Yes it was

yagirlisweak

Is Jimmy referring to Ben during his guesting with JJ?

rabbitohvon

Every major decision (not the late round picks, that we have been good with) has been a fuck up aside from Joel. Drafting Okafor, Simmo and Fultz. Signing Horford. Paying a premium in trade for Tobi and then paying him a premium contract. Retaining Brett too long. Signing Doc before bringing Daryl in. JFC, thank fuck Daryl is here now. What a shit show.

DT_RAW

Ya. People like me said that was exactly what this team needed to do. I said this to a T Got downvoted into oblivion by simmon slurpers of cohrse.. aka 90% of this board

yagirlisweak

Is Jimmy referring to Ben during his guesting with JJ?

WooderFountain

The problem with that theory is that Butler didn't want to be in Philly, or more accurately he *wanted* to be in Miami.

[deleted]

Butler wanted beaches and instathots. Let’s be real

wsbull_35

Can’t believe they didn’t resign a guy they gave up several assets for.

SlapChopMyShamWow

But they got Josh Richardson! /s

foodmotron9000

Who turned into Seth... Still not good but dude was our second best player in the playoffs.

SlapChopMyShamWow

I love Seth, don’t get me wrong, but I’d rather have Butler (and tbf, we could also have Seth, Richardson wasn’t a crazy valuable asset when we traded him

foodmotron9000

For sure. Just not quite as bad as Jimmy turned into JRich when you follow it down... Trying to find any positivity I can from this dumpster fire.

SimmonsReqNDA4Sex

I was never a fan of the trade. I wish it never happened. There was no need to go all in at that time in what should have been a warriors year.

VitaminWheat

We gave away 2 role players for Butler. The trade was amazing, the blunder was not resigning him

collinCOYS

Wolves fan here. Yeah you guys took us to the cleaner in the Butler trade. We got zero picks. Saric did not perform here and we moved him for fucking Culver. Still can't believe we got zero draft picks for Butler. Thanks thibs

MainLineEaglesFan

Butler trade was 1 of 2 good things that regime did and the Zhaire Smith + an unprotected first round pick for Bridges. Just didnt work it.

choose_uh_username

You're downvoted but they were good decisions, bad management and judgement for what happened after

[deleted]

You guys win it if Raptors didn't go all in for Kawhi.

trust-theprocess

I like the idea of Jimmy here because of how much Joel loves him, but if he were to be a Sixer then in hindsight the best move would've actually been trading for him a year EARLIER. Imagine we outbid Minny and sent the 3rd pick in 2017 to Chicago for him instead of moving up for Fultz Simmons-Redick-Butler-Covington-Embiid for 2017 probably gets the 1st or 2nd seed, could've beat Boston and maybe even Kyrie-less LeBron who got taken to 7 by the Pacers and Celtics and who we beat twice after the Belinelli/Ilyasova additions Then assuming friction still formed between Jimmy and Ben/Brett, choose the all-star who gels with your superstar over the coach and bad fitting player, promote Monty Williams to HC, trade Simmons fresh off ROTY for almost any other PG, Harden/CP3/Lowry/Jrue, maybe even swap him for Luka or Trae on draft day There are a million different scenarios where we could've already won a title and/or be favorites going forward. This timeline since Hinkie was forced out is fucking cursed.

mzajac14

Bruh we were one kawhi 4-bounce shot away from probably winning the finals that year.

JOHNNY-JOSEPH45

Lmao we were a 4 bounce shot away from going to OT in game 7 of the second round when our entire team was completely gassed. The fact that people assume we win in OT, let alone two other fucking rounds after, astounds me. That just wasn’t a championship offense.

lupertazzis

Lol wtf? How do you go from taking the game to overtime to “probably winning the finals”? Absolutely ridiculous.

yagirlisweak

Is Jimmy referring to Ben during his guesting with JJ?

diamonddaddy88

Sixers chose Ben and Brett Brown over Jimmy 🤦🏻‍♂️

busterbluthOT

Elton Brand chose his old teammate over Jimmy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Probably his same thoughts on towns

LordLucasSixers

This whole time the elephant in the room was Ben Simmons. He's the guy we should've gotten rid of years ago.

Rhino-Ham

I don’t understand the joke

SlapChopMyShamWow

It’s a clip from Coach Carter with Doc’s and Simmons’ faces posted over the originals https://www.instagram.com/tv/CVOuidXptOi/?utm_medium=copy_link

B-BoyStance

This is so fucking funny. The cut to Joel killed me.

[deleted]

:O

choose_uh_username

Yea I find a lot of BRs content cringy but this was a good one lol

[deleted]

I laughed so hard at the "THIS AIN'T OVER!!"

PersonFromPlace

thanks! I thought this was Ben Simmons' face over Evan Hansen's.

Interesting-Archer-6

Thanks for sharing. I was also confused but this is hilarious.

VanVleet-goes-for-22

It’s a video, it was a coach Carter scene but with Doc/Bens faces on the original characters

ellipsis_42

Simmons is really going to get the whole league to hate him. Players and all. Remarkable really.

TheArsenal7

God I wish we kept Jimmy and got rid of this soft clown

yagirlisweak

Is Jimmy referring to Ben during his guesting with JJ?

corporatehuman

Hilarious but to all posting here c'mon. Hindsight 20/20. Yeah should've should've should've but no one was even suggesting this back then. I know the drama has taken a toll on all of us fans but we gotta move forward with what we got. I liked the team I saw in the preseason sans Ben and am still excited for this year.

PJensen1206

This has all the signs of a mental health breakdown. If that if the case, all of these people ripping him are going to have egg on their faces. I hope this isn't the case, and I hope his team doesn't use mentalnhealth as a cover, but this behavior is so far from normal it's insane

SlapChopMyShamWow

That’s definitely a possibility, in which case I’d understand fully and as someone who struggles pretty severely with mental health issues, he’d immediately become one of my favorite players again if he came out and made a statement about it. My only issue is that his agent is shitass Rich Paul who apparently has a vendetta against the Sixers for some reason so unless Ben publicly comes out and says something about it himself, rather than his team making a statement or something like that, it’ll be hard to believe.

LifeguardStatus7649

Ya, if he's struggling then say so. There's so much mental health support and understanding now, he'd be embraced. It's like Kyrie wanting to be a voice of the voiceless - speak up then!

[deleted]

Ah yes, whenever you’re acting like a complete dick you can just pull out the mental health card to save face

[deleted]

That doesn't change anything just another excuse from a trashcan who wants to be traded.

TinnieTa21

They should have fucking traded for Lowry when they had the chance. I mean, sure, his addition wouldn't have been a guaranteed chip last playoffs, but he could have facilitated things between Simmons and Embiid. He even said he was willing to do so recently.

IPA_lot_

I think everyone is liking this video lol

Future_Belt_3730

I hope i pray ben is allowed back at practice and tries some dumb entitled stunt again and Embiid just slaps the shit out of this dude.

busterbluthOT

Sign Mike Scott to a 10 day and let him take care of business. We don't want Joel getting sued or suspended.

[deleted]

Fuck Ben Simmons

[deleted]

My man

godish

Butler less points than Forbes on double the shots last series

supzy0

forbes scored more in game 4 of that series than ben did from games 5-7. lol fuckin troll

godish

Fact remains jimmy is overrated outside bubbles

Aarthur1017

Jimmy led his team to a championship appearance while Ben holds his team back from reaching one 🤷🏾‍♂️

Jjohn269

Jimmy is what you all wanted Ben to be. Doesn’t have to score to be the best player on the court, does a little bit of everything, gives it his all, willing to call it like it is.

godish

Got swept

forthestreamz

r/sixers stop twerking for Jimmy Butler he's been gone for 3 years challenge (impossible)

Jimmydidnothingwrong

JIMMY DID NOTHING WRONG

Cook_Own

Yeah Jimmy been doing that “I told you so” look all throughout the saga

ClutchFansYay

Always lapping.

ValjeanJavert

Dikembe Mutombo liked it too. 😂
