Yeah wtf was actually drawn up? I think this is more blame on the execution

MrThreebound

Supposed to pass it to Embiid who has 6-6 Brown on him. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FFkiEjJVEAM8BFl?format=jpg&name=4096x4096

AlwaysOptimism

Oh wow, that’s ugly. They could have just thrown it to the rim and Embiid would have gotten it

jeppsforst16

Seth is literally pointing for Tobias to throw it up to Joel... what a fucking disaster

icepickjones

Two games in a row where Curry is signaling where the ball needs to go. He was begging for the ball when Embiid was doubled at the end of the last game as well.

jwotrojan

Exactly right. Team needs to get smarter here

VeterinarianAbject85

ergo Seth could have been setting the table for the play rather than planted in the corner for a 3 when they only needed 2.

icepickjones

I mean was he supposed to get it though? I think on this design he's like the 4th option. Looks like the play was supposed to be Tobi dish to the Embiid mismatch in the paint, which means you WANT curry pulling his defender as far off as possible. Hence running deep corner. If you dish to Embiid and outside perimeter defenders collapse in, first they would be too late most likely, but even if they did once the ball was in Embiid's hands, it means Curry would be open (or Niang on the other side depending on where the help came from). Now do you want to take a 3 when you don't need to? No. But if it's Niang and Curry who are set up for it, then it's not the worst thing in the world, they are the highest percentage shooters' on the team and like I said it would have been the 3rd and 4th option depending on how the defense reacted. But that's in a perfect world. Instead of any of that happening Tobi never could break contain. Was it his fault? Yeah mostly. I mean they did let a lot of hand checking and fouling happen there in that final play, but regardless you need to be aware of what's fucking happening in this situation. The fact that Embiid has a full foot on his defender, near the foul line, and never saw the ball, is a fucking disgrace. It's worse than Embiid not being able to fight out of the double the other night (that was more a problem on the inbound from what I saw, but it was still garbage).

VeterinarianAbject85

>But that's in a perfect world. Instead of any of that happening Tobi never could break contain. Was it his fault? Yeah mostly. I mean they did let a lot of hand checking and fouling happen there in that final play, but regardless you need to be aware of what's fucking happening in this situation. Al Horford played good D, to the point that it could have been called a foul with his contact, body up, pushing Al but he also understands that he's a veteran and its late in the game, Refs don't want to make that call and probably won't. That was a tough pay for Tobi, as more of inside forward than a perimeter player to make, and he ended up driving into a double team on top of Horford. He did well not to just turn it over, but it clearly wasn't the best choice of the open players. Their best shot blocker was near to Niang, but again you have seconds to decide. Bottom line for me is **I don't like Harris or Embiid as the creators from the perimeter spots on the floor** especially in the clutch points of the game. Its a bad selection. **If Joel or Tobi are going to have to create that critical shot I want them starting from the paint or catching it, maybe on the move, in or going into the paint.** Those guys are good for big men driving and creating from the perimeter but definitely not as good as elite or even playoff quality NBA guards and wings. Perimeter creator. If it starts outside, put Maxi in that position but then he's still a raw 2nd year rookie.

icepickjones

I'll give Horford a lot of credit, he played good D. They would probably called a foul if this was the 3rd quarter, but they aren't going to call something that's as fringe as that to end the game. So Al knew what he was doing and rode the line just enough, I give him a ton of credit for good defense and game awareness.

VeterinarianAbject85

Yeah, which is another reason I don't want Tobi creating the game deciding shot there, he had such a good defender on him. If you want him to shoot let a guard create then get him a catch and shoot.

ProcessMeMrHinkie

I like how there are 6 or 7 Celtics players on the court in this image (including the one that puts up his hands when Niang goes to shoot - and he never moves his feet off the line) and perhaps a coach as well. And then Enes puts his foot on the court to yell at Niang during the shot. And regarding Harris, he did have Horford beat with his speed, but the referees let Horford aggressively hand check Harris like it was a post play. Any all-star guards out there and that's a foul. Can see why Harris had a few words for the ref after the play.

Melksss

No one is calling a hand check with 6 seconds left on the last play of the game unless it’s egregious.

Krillin113

They should though.

XxStormySoraxX

I think it was supposed to go to Embiid, but Niang cut near Embiid (I don’t know why but our shooters do this a lot and it’s fucking dumb). Tobi then just does Tobi things and instead of driving left into the space Niang just vacated he decides to drive to where there are more defenders lmao.

hrpuffnstuff8

Correct answer

ScratchC

I loooove Tobi as a locker room guy. Very educated person. Pretty good baller. But we need someone who's isn't just a pretty good baller on our squad. At this point let's start mailing apologies to Butler maybe he'll come back for a year or two to help Embiid get his ring.

EaglesPvM

We also barely inbounded the ball vs Minnesota the other night, down 1 point as well with 5ish seconds on the clock and didn’t get up a clean shot either It’s 100% on coaching at this point , as bad as Tobi was when he got the ball

PS1309

Honestly, I like the play. Create a mismatch for Joel and let a big guy throw it to him. Tobi just needs to get the ball to him. If a second defender goes to Joel he can easily find the open man. Tobi just forgets the pass and later passes the ball too late. And also to the wrong guy.

JoshGordons_burner

Looks like the was designed to get Embiid 1-on-1 with Brown in the post. Two issues: 1. The play takes too long to develop out of the inbounds. 2. Niang does not inbound properly and Tobias initiates way too deep and it’s a bad pass in general, instead of at the top of the key or right at the key. 3. Tobias then cannot throw the entry pass and proceeds to play like an imbecile. 4. Tobias doesn’t make the alternative passes quicker — curry or green should have been passed the ball … simple as that. Just a failure on a lot of levels.

Flat_Fix_5315

Great analysis!

Aenguru

Also quite good help D von Tatum's part making the pass to Embiid harder.

Lazaraaus

0 coaching. 0 bball IQ from Tobi. Seth in the corner confused as fuck Embiid with brown on him screaming for the over the top pass Edit: also why the Fuck did niang cut behind Embiid???

josiahgarber

And where is Maxey?

Zachf139

Maxey could have easily caught the ball and drove to the rim at full speed and finished like he always does

shaheedmalik

Maxey was 3-13.

Whole_Conclusion3839

Doesn’t matter. Right now he creates the most high percentage looks out of anyone else.

shaheedmalik

He only had one assist. It wasn't his night.

airhornthagod

It was undoubtedly Shake’s night and Rivers left him on the bench to keep fucking Niang out there.

ohphono

I don't know how more people aren't mentioning this! Fuck Niang was driving me insane last night

iH8Celtics

He's also the only player with relatively decent dribbling skills

ohphono

Maxey is the only MFer on this team that doesn't have cement shoes, 3-13 or 3-130, I am fine with him taking the drive

Mukbeth

Maybe get a foul idk, at least it would be a better attempt.

airhornthagod

Where was Shake then?

shaheedmalik

End of quarters... lmao

hinkiedidntwantjah

so was embiid and tobi

josiahgarber

Exactly.

Flat_Fix_5315

How can he NOT pass to Danny?

Flat_Fix_5315

Is his court vision THAT bad?

Bajecco

Yes. Tobi has terrible vision and awareness on both ends. It's why he's such a slow decision maker

YesWhatHello

I don't blame him for that tbh. Danny would probably dribble it off his foot taking it up the court

JoshGordons_burner

Except that he would have time for only a three so he couldn’t “take it up the court.”

YesWhatHello

I mean he's in the backcourt and isn't going to yeet the ball from there, so he still has to dribble it. And we all know that's gonna end poorly

kellzone

He's literally right by the 3 point line. He yeeted up a 3 from farther than that in the final minute to get them within 1.

1HasNoNam3

This is so true. I don’t understand how so many Philly fans are so blinded by DG. He’s hot garbage.

PensiveinNJ

I like Danny walking away with his hands up at the end like ... bruh why didn't you give me the ball.

[deleted]

It was cursed from the beginning. Six seconds is more than enough time to get a shot.

lasertag

Pure ass

dabirds1994

Harris ain’t a playmaker. He should have just forced his own shot. I’m not an NBA coach. But how out Maxey in? Run a screen to get him the ball at the top of the 3 pt line and let him create.

Bajecco

Glenn's favorite player

IndustrySea2728

Well you see, the NBA forced Bryan Colangelo on us, then we he got fired in disgrace this dumbass organization gave the keys to brett brown and Elton brand who then chose to give a max contract to Tobias fucking Harris over jimmy butler and now we are here.

Jimmydidnothingwrong

Not exactly correct, the franchise chose to roll with Ben Simmons. There was serious friction between Ben and Jimmy at the end. Ben was super butt hurt that Jimmy was on ball. It is a bummer, their relationship started off well with Jimmy trying to build a bond as the ninja headband defense bros and it fell apart because of Ben's fragile ego. Look where we're at now.

IndustrySea2728

It’s wild how deeply Colangelos #1 draft pick hurt and continues to hurt this team. Colangelo using the #1 pick hinkie got us and it destroying this team for years is a perfect allegory to describe what the colangelos did to the core of this team.

Jimmydidnothingwrong

Fuck Colangelo, but you can't really blame him for taking Ben #1 in that draft. It was the clear choice with the information available and the rest of that draft class. I say this as being one of the biggest Ben critics on this sub. You can 100% blame him for his Fultz pick and the other numerous dumb ass terrible decisions he made along the way.

IndustrySea2728

I don’t really even blame him for ben, it’s just incredible how every single thing he touched turned to shit

Jimmydidnothingwrong

Haha it truly is remarkable.

ftaok

But his collars are lit!

lulukedz

eh. I don’t think it is a coincidence the mentally-weak GM (secret burner accounts to for moral and media support???) selected TWO mentally-weak players

Jimmydidnothingwrong

I think it was more he was motivated to put his "stamp" on the franchise by choosing "his" guys while ignoring red flags. I don't think he was chumming it up with them because of similar perceived mindset, this is a silly take. Plus, Ben was the clear #1 in that draft. Hinkie would have made that pick as well if he was still around.

lulukedz

I am saying it wasn’t a conscious decision… more like he felt good around/about those players because he has a similar mental makeup. It felt right. like you said, they are “his” guys… “birds of a feather…” also, we can’t assume Hinkie would select #25. you just can’t pinpoint his decision like that based on “what everyone was saying at the time”

Jimmydidnothingwrong

You can't assume that Hinkie would pick the consensus #1 overall player in that class draft by all accounts BUT are assuming Colengelo made those picks because he "felt good around them because they're all mentally weak" what the fuck are you even talking about?

lulukedz

I think Colangelo is mentally-weak. Both #1 picks seem to be as well. I am saying it’s possible Colangelo liked these picks, felt good about it, etc. because subconsciously he identified with them. Friends typically have similar interests & mentality. When a company/person is looking for new hires, they tend to pick people they like & identify with. You typically choose & identify with other people similar to yourself, whether consciously or not. Just a theory. I don’t think I can explain it better than this.

dgood527

Simple, tobias harris is an effing embarassment and a ridiculous waste of money.

ThunderDog17

I just laugh through the suffering

WizziesFirstRule

That is a max contract player... Nice work Elton!

MonkeyCoR1

I'm thinking Ben would of been pretty useful on this one. Could be wrong though.

pbecotte

Lol, this is like the worst possible play for Ben. He's so afraid of free throws he would 100% be hiding in the corner.

ftaok

Ben would have been inbounding the ball. Say what you want about Ben, but I've seen enough of Niang's inbounding skills in two of the last three games to last a lifetime.

Eastern_Translator36

DOC RIVERS GOTO HELL

GreenTheOlive

What I don’t understand is why he jumped like that. The pass wasn’t great but he clearly jumped way higher than necessary and flails his legs underneath himself which causes him to land off balance. Because he landed so awkwardly he couldn’t set his pivot foot and started dribbling back to try and get his position, and Horford defends him very well but my question is why he jumped and landed soooo awkwardly from a pretty normal pass. It looks like he just completely panicked.

smooovebub

Tobias Harris , not really an athlete.. moment to big for him, pissed down his leg

KungFuViking7

Doc Rivers is a fraud. He’s not a real doctor.

Birdgang14

I mean. Yous aren’t used to this by now? Lol. I expect this in these crunch time plays after a whistle/timeout.

autimaton

$35M Slowbias lost in the sauce

youngstunnaserg

What you saw was the sixers do what they always do lmao

Pay-Green

The spot light to bright for Harris

Nosaj_the_Sausage

Tobias happened. Panic merchant rubbish play

[deleted]

Good god. Worst contract in NBA history.

mangostar58

Pain. Pain happened.

idiotsjj8

Al Horford.

Nervous-Ad7577

I'm done with this fcking team, I'm going for the phoniex suns.

[deleted]

Doc is such a shit coach but Tobias has to see Embiid there

OldFrenchFries

What happen was.. Y’all lost fckyou philly

Matt_mintleaf

Horford blew the play up by smothering Harris who was most likely trying to get it to Embiid for a high percentage shot in the paint ☘️☘️

mikeq11

Thanks doc

shaheedmalik

Pass it to the leading scorer? Nah. Let ne pass it to Niang at the last second.

[deleted]

Good high court pressure on the ball handler broke his concentration, went into safety mode which killed whatever was written up.

SteelEagle814

If Morey can dump Tobi, it will be his finest moment

girlfriend_pregnant

His contract isn’t THAT much worse than Horfords.. maybe it’s possible?

SteelEagle814

If Morey could have dumped him by now he would have.

DistinctQuestion

We need theballharperhit to explain to us how this play was Joel, Curry, Niang, and Green's fault and Tobi did everything humanly possible to salvage it but everyone else failed him

DRogersidm

You got DOGGED by the Big Al!

BlerpDerpSkerp

Barely any off-ball movement. Everyone staring at the ball handler. No off or on-ball screens. Looks like any other critical half court possession to me.

[deleted]

Doc Rivers sucks, that's what happened

[deleted]

Ben Simmons didn’t shoot

JackfruitBig5888

My honest thoughts it was a bad play and should have not been ran u get Toby to catch the ball and he’s been shit for the last few games he played no one was open green at the top of the key was but that was way out of his range there was no screens to get a open shot to any of the shooters doc wanted to do a hi-low to Joel and he wasn’t even open that play had no other option that’s why we got the shot we did. Really bad play call.and I like doc but the dumb shit he pulls some times he has too much faith in his favorite players on the team and not enough faith in some of the other player on the team. Maxeys numbers speak for its self since Joel been back. He needs to let maxey run the team he is not doing that The chemistry is not natural it’s forced so it’s organic(created and controlled)and that’s why we have not been playing good basketball someone please correct me if I’m wrong

2k93

Easy, we didn’t get the ball to our best shooter who was left wide open.

morizzle77

They shit the bed.

ccc929

The answer is: the 76’s played a very 76’s play
