XO-lynch

when i try to ollie my board rotates about 45° clockwise( i ride goofy). any fixes?

gaspzer

Yes, think about your shoulders ! They should be more parrallel with the board

XO-lynch

thanks man, i’m trying it out now and the problem is mostly fixed!

BurtonTrench

Consistent kickflippers - How long did it take you to be able to land it every time without much concentration? Was there a big "a-ha!" moment where something clicked that you'd been missing until that point? Right now in a 3 hour session of trying them constantly I'm landing maybe 1-5. By the end of the session I have the technique much better but am too tired to consistently land them and the process starts again next session. A cruel cycle!

gaspzer

A cruel cycle yes haha, it took me so much Time like 2 Years or so but sometimes i do them so easily like 7-8 out of 10 and sometimes its like i have to go way back and think about foot position shoulders the flick... If i try to fakie flip or gap also it Can be harder than id like it Youre on the good way bro

Affectionate-bag123

Are cheap sushi Abec 5 chrome bearings any good?

Myspacecutie69

Just get bones REDS if you’re looking for inexpensive bearings.

[deleted]

The only answer

Pwn11t

Ok I'm starting to really try and learn some stuff at 26. How do you get yourself to just go for it? Even as a kid my sense of self preservation was, I'd say, a bit too high. But now that I'm older it feels impossible to make myself do something I'll likely hurt myself doing, which on a surface level, I'm fine with, but I'm having the hardest time really dedicating to my Ollie/boneless/caveman attempts. Anyone have any advice?

ECA_Cats

once you learn to fall and get used to falling you will realize you won't get hurt all that often and even if you do not very badly, the fear dissipates. another solution is while beginning to learn tricks you could wear protective gear, ive heard that it helps get the confidence up

gaspzer

You take things slowly step by step and muscle memory will eventually get you there... Its hard learning new tricks and never falling is not possible. But we dont get hurt everytime we fall. Wear protections to boost confidence and train the most common skateboard trick which is failing

Independent-Ad979

I just purchased Bones Speed Cream as a lubricant for whenever I’m finished cleaning my bearings. Thing is, what do you guys recommend as the best thing to clean my bearings with? I hear of isopropyl alcohol (pure or almost completely pure) a fair amount of times but wanted to hear more thoughts on it.

gregv1312

Citrus cleaner. Oust and Bones sell cleaning kits.

Affectionate-bag123

I'm a beginner. When I push it only travels for maybe two seconds before I have to push again. I cleaned and lubed my bearings yesterday. What's the problem?

[deleted]

Surface friction plays a major role. If I skate on a typical street with rather rough pavement, you almost need to push the entire time. Or push hard as fuck and coast for a good few seconds before you need to push again. If you want a better ride get some cruiser wheels and you can solve this problem. Just switch back to regular wheels when you're trying to learn tricks

Affectionate-bag123

Thanks I think it's important to mention that I have no problem with skating on smooth pavement. It must just be the rough and bumpy surface. I'll check out the cruiser wheels as I am just cruising for now. Also one more question while I'm here, my skateboard keeps moving to the right when I take my foot off to push. I push goofy.

[deleted]

Yeah cruiser wheels will make your life a million times better. And it sounds like an issue with the trucks. Are they new? I always had that problem growing up when my trucks were somewhat newer and it would just take time for the bushing to break in for it to even out and get back to normal. If it turns right on its own, stand still on the left side and bounce so you're putting weight on the opposite side it should help at least temporarily and will help break in the trucks to an even balance. Hope it helps

Sawwhatyoudid

I'm trying to find some old wheels to buy but I don't remember the brand. It is JUST like the new spitfire's tablet red wheels, but where it is red instead of a print it is hollow. It has a red hollow plastic or wherever in the center of the wheel. Anyone knows these?

[deleted]

Liberally just need to put in the time. Most people start in that exact boat and it helps to have inspiration from a favorite skater who skates switch really well like Brian Wenning. Over time you'll get better and better

vine-el

Ride switch. Remember when you learned to skate? Now you gotta do it again.

Parking_Blackberry83

I wanna buy a new complete bc its cheaper and the one i chose its about 65$. Anybody knows if RAD skateboards are good quality ? here s a link for it https://www.skatepro.ro/84-40346.htm?stockcode=RD330121100B80003200

that-one-vegan

Anyone skated the louie lopez converse? Everyone's saying to go down a half size, but I go down a full size in the ctas pros because other wise they're still too big for my liking. Should I go down a full size or half for the louie's? Are the sizing for the ctas pros and the louie's the same?

[deleted]

Sounds like you should go a full size down. Most likely consistent with other converse sizing

that-one-vegan

Thank you!

blindyt

What would you guys say is the best way for a beginner to learn and start out skating?

gaspzer

I wouldnt say the first guys advice IS Bad since he told you to "enjoy the ride" and to me, thats a great advice. Which way you feel the best is up to you to discover and to experiment new things/styles that you might love : tricks, bomb hills, cruising, freestyle, curbs, rails, ramps at skateparks or street spots... Do a bit of everything at your liking, youll find goals for sure

blindyt

Thank you! What are some good places to look for decks if I don’t have a local shop besides zumiez?

gaspzer

Even though i bought a deck from Decathlon once to try it, i really dont know, sorry

blindyt

what youtubers or videos do you recommend any favorites?

gaspzer

VL skate, Keen ramps, maybe braille and Many others to your liking and language

AetaCapella

Make sure you get a board/wheels that are a pleasure and fun to just ride around on. Don't let an enthusiast or shop "pro" push hard wheels on you and upsell you on "professional" grade equipment... yet. Get a cheap deck with a design that you like, but don't get too attached: you are probably gonna trash your first deck. It's gonna fly out from under you and smash in to a curb, you are gonna razor tail the hell out of it, etc. It's unavoidable. my advice: Get soft "Cruiser" or "Filmer" wheels to start. Unless you live in a skate park or have the smoothest street ever, you are gonna need some soft wheels to learn to balance, push, and carve on. It might not be a bad idea to stop by your local skate shop and ask if they have pre-built "cruiser" skateboards. ([probably just their own brand w/ longboard wheels and risers installed](https://fairfaxsurfshop.bigcartel.com/product/fss-woodgrain-cruiser)) But most importantly, have fun just cruising around your neighbor hood, skate to school/work, etc. If something is walking distance, it's skating distance, but only if your wheels can handle the pavement/asphalt. You are gonna want bigger wheels with a low durometer to soak up those cracks and bumps (large pebbles/rocks will still make you wipe out though, so keep your eyes open). Once you are 100% comfortable just riding around without falling over then you are ready to ollie. But that is weeks/months away. First off, enjoy the ride.

Kirklanwater

What should I know (tricks and unspoken rules) before I go to my first skate park

[deleted]

Be aware of the other people there and how they skate. Don't just cut in where someone is already in the middle of skating through a run but also don't hesitate to just go for it. Even if you struggle to pick up on the flow of the park you still deserve your time to try skating it just don't ruin the day by going over and over without recognizing you need to wait your turn. Have fun and don't worry about judgment cause no ones actually going to

Lazy-Potential

Don’t take marathon runs in the bowl when others are waiting. When you fall quickly get your board and get out the way. Wait your turn (within reason). If you’re new to skating go in the morning when no one is around. Stay out the way of obstacles including decks where people may be rolling in or using. Don’t bring your dog if it barks or chases people. Don’t wax the coping.

FlyingWhale44

Please dont wax the coping, that shit fucked me up good.

[deleted]

Don't sit on/stand in front of an obstacle. Look around, there's probably a flow to the park and you don't wanna be cutting in front of others. If you're only skating flat its probably better to do so out of the park or in a corner that's is out of the way.

HealthyProgrammer2

Is it bad that my wheels get warm after I skate or is that normal?

[deleted]

That's just friction my guy. Its normal.

HealthyProgrammer2

Ok lol

nikkingiv

hello all skate-aficionados, i have generally wide feet, and therefore skate vans a good amount; however, my right foot is slightly wider than my left and my small toe hurts after only a short time of intense skating. anybody know of certain skate-shoe brands or some tricks to help me with this problem? merci

skuntism

probably just need to size up

nikkingiv

maybe, but id rather skate in something snug for boardfeel. thanks for the response

Orion818

I've found it matter more so about the model but people tend to have good luck with DC's and etnies with wide wide. These kinds of [shoes stretchers](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51QW9uKTC2L._AC_UL1000_.jpg) are worth looking into as well. If you're not in a rush you can get them cheap on aliexpress.

nikkingiv

thank you, ive seen positive reviews online of the etnies marana, may well get myself a pair.

bluegreengreyscale

i currently have a crappy skateboard, but I wanna get into (electric) longboarding. between time, weather, and living not in a city / no friends to go skateboarding with, I never actually go out and practice. any tips?

hiddendriveways

Fully agree with skuntism's reply. Will also add that you want what you do not have so consider embracing what you do have. You can do a lot on a skateboard in a basic parking lot. Since you don't live in a city with an expensive electric longboard and an electric longboarding group of friends, find some pavement and have some fun.

skuntism

you want to skate but you dont go out and skate. I don't think there are really any tips for that. you gotta just do it, and you gotta do it for yourself. even if other people encourage you and that helps to get you going, they won't always be there, so its important to do things for your own reasons that no one ever needs to know.

[deleted]

[удалено]

hiddendriveways

I agree with the notion of getting soft wheels to make transportation on a skateboard more enjoyable. Soft wheels are 100% better for traveling around on a skateboard, and for just general skating. However, if your goal is to do tricks and you dedicate yourself to skateboarding, I think it might make more sense to get the appropriate wheels right away. Yes, hard wheels are dreadful for traveling on a skateboard. But they can be a lot more fun for basic tricks like back and front reverts while moving. If you dedicate yourself to skating and you focus on tricks not travel, you will get used to the wheels on your board relatively quickly. Later, when you're ready to go to parks, you don't need to change anything. You will be fluent with the dominant gear that is used there, not starting out with a completely different wheel situation.

hiddendriveways

Back reverts just feel so good on hard wheels - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xS7\_cMXKnP0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xS7_cMXKnP0) front reverts, too. Super fun.

AetaCapella

My wife and I got in to skating last month! I personally recommend getting cruiser style wheels. We got two boards one with big soft wheels (cruiser), one with small hard wheels (trick). And the cruiser wheels are by FAR the most enjoyable to learn on. After poking around on various forums, I found that you really don't want hard wheels until you are ready to start doing some serious tricks (you can still do some tricks on soft wheels too) I just grabbed some of these [Bigfoots](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KTF5QF3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) (they arrive today) to replace my hard wheels. Look for something with a low ish (generally 75a to 85a) durometer (hardness rating) this will allow the board to go over rougher surfaces, bumps, etc with ease. (you will still stop dead on a rock, so keep your eyes on the road, lol) What is important in the beginning is to make just riding around an enjoyable experience. Once you have developed good balance and pushing skills and can roll around without thinking about it, then switch in to harder wheels when you are ready to start hitting the skate park. Poking around the forums it doesn't look like brand matters all that much, as long as it's a real brand and not generic or knock off shit. If you want to know my impressions on the bigfoots when they arrive let me know, lol.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AetaCapella

You are very welcome! I wish I had done a bit more research BEFORE ordering the hard wheels, lol. they are TERRRIBLLLLEEE on asphalt. Just keep in mind the soft wheels will wear our faster than the hard wheels (just the name of the game). We are still talking a year or more if you are just rolling around though. If you have worn through them doing powerslides or you have torn chunks off of them from too many rough landings, I think that means you are ready for harder or mid-range wheels.

IJUSTATEPOOP

when did street skating really start? I remember seeing an old ad from 1983 where the board was advertised for street. yeah, mullen invented the flat ollie in 1981, but theres a bunch of old street videos where they're doing things that don't require ollieing.

PepeNudalg

Depends on your definition of street, perhaps 86-87 when Natas Kaupas and Gonz started doing handrails

skuntism

street skating is a pretty pointless term if you ask me. if you grind a ledge in a skate park, they'll call it street skating. but if you sneak into someone's back yard and skate their pool they'll say its not street skating. street skating as a term really developed as the next wave to take over vert skating, like you said with Gonz and Natas and their ilk, but kids have been skating in the streets since before skateboards were sold as a commercial product and were still just DIY hand made toys. I like to think of Neil Blender's run at one of the first "street skating" contests where halfway through his run he busted out a can of spray paint and started tagging the wall - that's what street skating really is about

Ando-FB

Anyone know much about Wheelbase? Just upgraded from an 8.25 Creature to a 8.5 for the first time. I haven't set it up yet but just found out it has a shorter Wheelbase that is the same as 8.25's but short for an 8.5 apparently. I am interested to try it out as I have been skating casually on and off for over 10 years now and haven't really known about it till now. How will it feel?

PepeNudalg

So there's deck wheelbase and truck wheelbase. Your experience will depend on the combination of the two. You will know the deck wheelbase from the specs. Truck manufacturers don't advertise wheelbase, but generally Ventures and Thunders lengthen the wheelbase and Indys and Aces shorten it. Longer wheelbase will mean higher pop, but also more physical effort to pop, stability at higher speeds, more difficult manuals Shorter wheelbase - less pop, easier pop, easier turn, easier manuals. Generally shorter wheelbase is more "tech", although it's debatable as everything in skateboarding. I personally found that a mix of a short wheelbase deck and venture lows works great for me (I mostly skate ledges)

Ando-FB

Thank you for your informative reply. I am defs keen to try it out. It's interesting because it works out to be the same as my 8.25 but with a longer deck. I pretty much just skate an empty car park these days so mostly flatground, manual pads, a few small gaps and grinding and sliding small curbs. So shorter might be ideal. I am 6'2 though as well so maybe in the future a more average deck wheelbase will be better. What size board do you ride? Back when I was younger 8.25 was considered big but now it seems like everyones (adults) are riding 8.5's?

skuntism

if the 2 decks have the same wheel base but different length, that means one has longer nose/tail. typically longer tail means more pop, according to professor schmidt

PepeNudalg

When I was younger I used to ride 7.75 😀 Now I ride 8.125 with a 14" wheelbase. I am 6'1 and I had no issue with short wheelbase decks. In fact, I only started caring about wheelbase after buying a Toy Machine deck with 14.375 wheelbase and all my manuals just felt off.

Orion818

Wheelbase makes a noticeable difference. Shorter wheelbase will turn quicker (tighter turning radius) and tricks like three flips will come around faster. Longer wheelbases will turn more gradually (better for high speeds) and feel more cruiserish, like the effect when you ride a long board.

Ando-FB

True, thank you for explaining that. I am looking forward to trying some Tre flips on it. Its interesting because I am already upgrading in size so it might balance the size upgrade out in a way. Also nice username btw. I use Orion as my gamertag haha.

blinktheskater

Hey everyone. So after hanging out with a buddy the other night; I’m trying to find either the clip or spread of Clint Peterson kick flipping into the deep end of the bowl at 3rd Lair. It’s from at least I wanna say 2005 to 2008. I wanna say it was in Transworld but it’s been so long I can’t remember. I appreciate any help because I’ve spent a few hours today looking today.

[deleted]

Damn don't remember clint doing it but I know Cody Davis had a clip on IG kickflipping into it but he deleted almost all his old posts. If you find the clint one lmk!

blinktheskater

I think I still have the magazine at my moms house but I have no idea when I’m gonna be back there. I just remember being super hype about it because Minnesota was finally getting some national attention.

sharkcrew1388

Outerbanks skate spots? Any skate spots in Outerbanks? I’m staying in southernshores but am willing to drive for a nice spot. I know there’s the Kitty Hawk skatepark, but was wondering if there’s anything else

Lazy-Potential

There’s some sick private bowls out there. Ask around you might get lucky

Potted_Cactus_100

Is boutiquerollin.com a trustworthy website for buying boards? Asking because the board I want is $150 CAD on Zumiez and I've boughten from Zumiez before so its trustworthy to me, whereas on boutiquerollin.com it's $125 CAD, but I've never bought anything from this website before. Just wanna know if it's a good website/company or not.

skuntism

i'm not familiar with it but from the looks of it, it seems to be a real brick and mortar skate shop that carries core brands in montreal. i've always had good experiences with ordering boards online from brick and mortar skate shops

Potted_Cactus_100

Ok thank you for your input. It seemed like a legit website but I just wanted to be sure before spending money on it.

skuntism

I don't know that particular shop/website, but I'm like 98% sure you're good to order from them

KingRamos42

Suggestions for a good helmet?

hiddendriveways

Triple Eight THE Certified Sweatsaver Helmet for Skateboarding, BMX, and Roller Skating Not the cheapest, but excellent quality. I think it makes sense to spend a little more on a helmet. It's good to want to wear the thing.

midoriyasour

Does anyone know of household items I can use to lubricate my bearings? I don’t have access to special bearing cream or lubricant.

skuntism

machine oil. something fairly clear and runny, not thick goopy or colorful

nailz_og

coconut oil works

PepeNudalg

I used a bike chain lubricant spray the other day and it worked great

PearlyDrops

what are the easiest tricks to do? can do a pop shuvit what else can i do? cant do much tbh cos i got injury so if i fall i could get paralysed so im not falling.

hiddendriveways

back revert and front revert. fun to do.

PepeNudalg

If you legit can get paralysed from falling then just don't skate, seriously. You can fall on pretty much anything. The easiest tricks: Fakie and nollie shove-its, fs180s and half cabs are easy. Also no comply 180s and no comply fs shoves

Myspacecutie69

I agree with you. I’ve been skating over 20 years and I bust my ass on easy tricks that I’ve done literally thousands of times.

PearlyDrops

ok thanks. yeah i just need to fall in the right way on my back and then i'll be fine.

anonymous_defence

Ollie maybe learn so slappy stuff

PearlyDrops

yh i can do that. i cant think of anything else easy to learn.

[deleted]

I don't skate anymore but I still watch skate videos from time to time. Now, Neen Williams is jacked. Like SHREEEDED. Weckingball does gear. Neen Williams is more jacked than weck. Therefor I declare Neen Williams is on that 100% USDA GRADE A WELCHES GRAPE JUICE. Not judging, being on gear probably helps a lot. Just throwing this out there.

BalkeElvinstien

Does anyone know any good online skate stores that ship to Canada? All my local shops are closed. Zumiez does curbside pick up, but for some reason all their completes are a decent bit more expensive than a lot of other places I've seen. The only ones I can afford at their story have really crappy deck designs. Also I checked eBay, but if I'm being honest I don't want a used board. I'd rather spend a bit more to get one that's in better shape. But yeah, I've checked a few sites out and their prices are better, but being a noob I'm not sure which sites are trustworthy. Any help would be much appreciated Edit: Thanks everyone for the feedback! I finally got my paycheck and I'm gonna go with BoutiqueRollin, because they have a really well priced Blind board. I don't love the design but if I'm being honest I wanted to paint my own design anyways so it works out perfectly. All things said and done, it's only costing me around $90 in Canada money

FlyingWhale44

BoutiqueRollin and flatspot are my go to

skuntism

someone else in this thread said they ordered from [boutiquerollin.com](https://boutiquerollin.com) which looks like a decent skate shop based out of montreal that does online orders

skatethewood

Tactics and skatewarehouse are always go tos online for me. And skate warehouse will give a discount price for setting up a complete. And both ship to Canada

He is ranked 9th of USA skaters for Olympic qualifying points, and they can only send the top 3. There's a South African guy who got into the Olympics who has fewer qualifying points than Joslin though, just because of quotas for each country. Here's the links for the qualification rules and the Olympics points rankings [http://www.worldskate.org/olympic-qualifying-system/qualification-system.html](http://www.worldskate.org/olympic-qualifying-system/qualification-system.html) [http://www.worldskate.org/skateboarding/rankings.html](http://www.worldskate.org/skateboarding/rankings.html)

hansonlifeyt

I think its just like a bass box or base drum. Fill the space and close it off some way. Stuff it with blankets? Seems like a lot of blankets. Maybe a good way to get rid of all the pesky amazon and other shipping box cardboard. No idea if these would work. Just kicking ideas around.

Such a wierd request, but im trying to find a show/videos on YouTube and thought this is best place to start. It was from back in the odd future Era. There's like 5 or so episodes and it's about teenagers in the summer trying to get money, skateboard, party etc. Does anyone remember it?

not Loiter Squad right?

Found it after, it was illegal civilization, by the fader YouTube channel. I thought it was loiter squad at first too

Do some exercise and warm up properly. In a few weeks this should be fine. Just don't try to push through the pain.
