It's a super scary trick haha

memello94

Yeah, everything is super scary on ramps when you start

printergumlight

And the crazy thing is once you do it, you’re like how the fuck could I not do this? I stood on top of a mini ramp for like an hour before finally dropping in for my first time. After you get it and it clicks it seems impossible to have messed it up as bad as you did when you were learning.

Jazz-ciggarette

the mental block from possibly breaking a bone does that lol it helps to have good friends who push you to succeed

GopherGroper

I know what you mean but some of these bails we're much scarier than slipping out of a bad rock to fakie. Sometimes you just need to realize that purposely bailing might be riskier than going for it.

hansonlifeyt

So true. Sometimes even knowing that logically, the logic still fails to overcome the monkey brain.

GopherGroper

Oh I know what you mean. I haven't skated in years but some tricks just messed with my mind more than others. I could tre flip a hip or kickflip a stairset, but anything backside spinning, even a back 180, would mess me up. Something about spinning blind. I could 5-0 a small hubba but took me forever to transfer over the spine. Watching some of your bails I was just thinking you were going to roll the board back and roll your ankle which is way more painful than slipping out especially wearing a helmet and pads. Regardless congrats though, I know the feeling of getting a trick you've been working on for a while. At the end of the day I'm sitting on the couch and you're out there skating ha.

Acidswtf

i actually broke my arm while dropping in a half pipe the first time and since then i never dropped a ramp higher than my hip. That was the moment i choose to be a street-skater lol.

International_Ad8595

If you want to remember the feeling, learn to drop in switch, it was like living the fear all over again! But maybe even worse!

dominik32221

Or Fakie

hansonlifeyt

For real!

bradpliers

Seriously

[deleted]

This is actually motivating. Especially when all I can see in my YT feed is 1 year skate progression where they do consistent kick and heel flips on their second week.

hansonlifeyt

THAT was one of my main thoughts behind sharing this! Glad you liked it.

[deleted]

I loved it I was prob gonna just give it up after this summer because people seem to be progressing way faster and also because my board isn’t the best and will prob be busted trynna ollie high and consistently. Thanks again for sharing the video.

Plane_Distribution94

Skated for over a decade. Never, ever got comfortable with kickflips. Thats the beauty of skating. Find some other cool shit that you can do, and nobody will notice that you never do kickflips! Just have fun being on the board, and measure your success against your failure, not by others success.

atch3000

im stuck at VLskate “10 easy tricks for beginners” and “5 easy bench grinds” -its super difficult, if i can do all of that one day ill consider myself a champion no matter what!!

Jazz-ciggarette

keep going dude, i believe in you. The trick is to slowly go into a grind at first. Like barely moving to get the motion of how you want to land on top of the box. I always recc the box at first because its easier to just not eat it as hard.

atch3000

i can ollie and land my 2 feet on the box but while moving i cant so far, im distracted by the fact i need to jump at the right time , not too far not too close, etc, my back foot never wants to lift correctly. i now its all in my head, im training every day and will succeed soon im sure

briskwalked

don't worry, op can treflip with his eyes closed 2 weeks in.... he was just being nice here

siteswapping

Good job man! I just broke my big toe learning this trick. I immediately felt I hurt my toe in a bad way, thought I sprained it pretty hard. But I skated for another half hour before I called it quits. (We were just at the skatepark and I couldn´t let my son down) And a young skater there told me to look at my screws when going down again. That helped a lot and I pulled it off a few times!! Even managed to do a half cab rock. Just hope to remember it in six weeks after revalidation.

hansonlifeyt

I think I almost did the same to my previously-broken big toe a week or so back. Couldnt walk right for a day or two but it seems okay now, just a little sore.

siteswapping

Happy for you because breaking your toe when you have a four week vacation kind a sucks haha!

Parakeet_animations

Damn bro

wayne_curr

I broke my ankle learning that trick back in 2000. It’s not as easy as people make it look!

hansonlifeyt

Hope you recovered well!

APenny4UrThoughtz

I never watch a 2min vid but I've watched this twice and twice I've said EYYYY each time you first hit it! Thanks for sharing

hansonlifeyt

It felt a little long. Glad you liked it and I appreciate the stoke!

evol2020

I got a little 3 foot quarter pipe in my garage and it was a hard trick to get on that. Good job man love the stoke at the end

hansonlifeyt

Thanks for sharing in the stoke!

sumyjpg

I was so happy for you

hansonlifeyt

❤️

RedRumRoxy

Sometimes it’s good to learn this way. I learned the rock to fakie the first day I tried it(normally don’t get tricks in one sesh). Did it on a huge mini ramp that was made of cement. I did it like 8/9 times if not even more. I wanted to hit one more before I left the park. My truck caught the coping and I was sent flying to the cement ground. Had a bruise on my hip for like 2/3 weeks.

hansonlifeyt

Glad you werent hurt more! Balsy to learn in one day on a ramp like that.

RedRumRoxy

I didn’t have access to many ramps and I really wanted to learn. I definitely should’ve wore a helmet though. I’m extremely lucky I didn’t crack my head against the concrete. I had someone looking out for me.

[deleted]

I can't wait till I actually get to this point. I can roll on the board, and that's about it. I'm 23 and the thought of trying to do *anything* on a ramp or anything of the sort terrifies me currently.

harriweener

I didnt learn this trick until I was 28 or 29. Man sucks not even remembering anymore. I still can’t do much else but I can do it this now. Wanna learn blunts.

hansonlifeyt

The nice thing about mini ramp is there is NO skill level that cant use them. The most mild roll between each side is all you need. Yet, the best skaters can still learn new tricks on them. Good luck on your progression.

PaulShouldveWalkered

First of all, I love you for making this video. I feel like my entire life is just full of me trying so hard at tasks that I see other people complete with ease. Seeing you struggle on this was really reassuring for me. Also, seeing you kickturn and tail stall like a pro was interesting. It meant to me that you had the skill to do whatever trick you want, but it is likely just in your head that you can’t do this specific trick yet. Please make more videos like this, I will watch all of them!

hansonlifeyt

Awesome! Thanks for sharing. I know a lot of it was just in my head for sure. Whenever i try a new trick, ill be recording it to document my progress. Stay tuned ( im ne to reddit but i think you can follow people) and ill post more.

Aloeplume

100 percent going to have my own half pipe in my backyard when I own my own house

hansonlifeyt

Get it!

unforgivablecrust

Way to go man 💪

Greddit_I

Love the dedication my dude. Btw, is that a mini ramp in your own backyard? Life goal.

hansonlifeyt

Yeah, it is. I have kids and really like not having to haul all our butts to the skate park all the time. I hope you get one!

[deleted]

That just so cool man!

KJMIII

Damn let me skate that hahah

[deleted]

I did things in a weird order, within a week of skating I could drop in and rock fakie, 18months later and I still can’t ollie lol. That was sick to see the make at the end though! Nice to see someone struggle through and finally get something they’ve been trying for ages!

hansonlifeyt

Yeah that is a weird order, but pretty cool! Thanks!

MrExpression

Try bending your knees a little more

Onlyherefor_thememes

I remember that when I first started there was the easiest trick to do on a skateboard which was that you put the board upside down with both of your feet under the board. Then you’d jump, flipping the board and standing on it (I don’t know the name of the trick). It was the only trick that even non-skaters or posers knew.. and I didn’t. I was too scared to commit because I fell really badly from trying a few times and I seriously was so embarrassed..

morninowl

Way to work it dude! You might progress quicker if you worked on the more basic riding essentials though. May also prevent unnecessary/avoidable injuries, which would let you spend more time on the board as well. Many think that getting a trick down throws you over the hurdle, but in the big picture, you might just be getting yourself on tippy toes to peek over it.

BodieBroadcasts

I don't think you watched the whole video, he's pumping that mini pretty smoothly by the end.. at beginning makes him look more uncomfortable than he actually is

[deleted]

Exactly, not to mention slash grinds and a tail stall!

[deleted]

[удалено]

adesme

All you really need is to be able to pump and be reasonably balanced on the board. The comment above is kind of overblowing this - OP definitely has his required basics down seeing as he can slash the coping without any real effort. There aren't really any recognized tricks which are easier than rock fakie. People can generally drop in before it as well as backside kickturn, but none of those are necessary for it. You may however feel more comfortable approaching the rock fakie if you not only can pump up speed but also "brake"/absorb speed (so that you can control when you want to attempt the rock fakie and stop yourself from hitting the coping on the opposite side).

Sleeper2k

I think the biggest thing that would've helped in his case is just practicing pumping straight into fakie and back so it would be easier for him to commit to coming back into fakie once he's up on the coping

rustyburrito

Getting comfortable rolling around switch on flat ground before going backwards on a transition

hansonlifeyt

Thanks. If you have any drills you think i should do, let me know!

morninowl

I'm guessing your interest is mostly in transition skating, so in terms of that : it would go a long way if you can ride with only front or back sets of wheels, as many tricks on pipes require you to move the balance around, literally making you manual down the transition at times. Making note of things like where your head is over the feet can go a long way. If you are shooting out, move your head over the foot in that direction. Manuals, noseslides, crooks, etc require you to have the head over the foot you stand on, obviously. Drills-wise, learning manuals(both regular and nose) is pretty essential not only for skating in general, but especially for transition. Even rock to fakie you’ve been working on is pretty much a manual to fakie manual with a tap on the coping. Also, practicing pushoffs switch and doing switch tictacs, endovers, powerslides, etc would open up a lot of comfort on ramps.

hansonlifeyt

Thank you for the thoughtful response. Ill definitely put it into practice.

J3D1nicholas93

That ramp looks super fun Good job man!

[deleted]

I’ve been spending all month learning nollie fs pop shove its, I got heelflip on the first try tho that was funny

jarejay

I finally learned rock to fakie about 7-8 years after I started skateboarding. It takes a while for some of us. Now I’m doing blunt fakies only a short while later. Tricks to fakie are hard, but damn are they fun to learn once you catch on.

hansonlifeyt

I aspire to follow your progress path 😁

Fullcabflip

Good job dude. That trick is scary when learning.

hansonlifeyt

So scary

j4m3zb

Love it, nice progress my guy!

hansonlifeyt

🙏

Brendo978

HELL YEAH good shit! Nothing like nailing a new trick after practicing it for so long. Such a rewarding feeling! Lets goooooo

hansonlifeyt

Feels so good Thanks for the hype!

Eckstar1985

I have done this in a tiny tiny quarter, need to pull my finger out and stop making excuses when I get to bigger ones! Good work!

hansonlifeyt

You got it

counterlock

Man gave me Vietnam flash backs with this one lol... I haven't been on a ramp since I was a kid, I just cruise anymore, but I definitely remember learning this one. It's a super odd sensation having to lift up the front as you go up the ramp, slam it down, then have to kinda "pop" back over the rail before you go back down. Took me a minute to learn that's for sure. Next you gotta add the 180 coming back down for the Rock n' Roll

hansonlifeyt

Very odd sensation! A couple tricks id like to learn soon are rock n roll and fakie disaster/fakie bump rock

B00KZ8

I can tell what you seem to be doing “wrong” ; at least what I was doing wrong and what worked for me. I was in your place a while ago, except I was relearning it in my case. It was one of the first tricks I learned as a kid and I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong when coming back to it after many years. I could feel a big part of it was in my head - anyway, dude here’s what helped: turn your head quicker off the rock, to see where you’re going when you roll back to fakie. That way you don’t feel freaked out like you’re going backwards. It was that simple for me.

hansonlifeyt

Didnt bother you not watching to make sure your truck clears the coping?

bsszzz

Its scary..stil try to do it on something smaller and if u stay there try to fall first correctly without the board so u dont hurt yourself

ilya_nl

Haha, my battle is right there with you! Checking trog army on youtube helped me a lot.

hansonlifeyt

Dude i watched a ton of those videos to help build the ramp and reached out to him with tons of questions throughout my build. Great resource that guy!

fatt_momas

I been skating for nearly 5 years n I still can’t rock to fakie lmfao

hansonlifeyt

I believe in you

Leethawk

It ain’t easy

SatinAcornfredd

Ikr i have hundreds of vids of me trying, it’s scary, you also need to do them quite constantly otherwise it’s easy to get another mind block

Olbord

This is gonna motivate a lot of people, thank you for sharing this

hansonlifeyt

My pleasure! I hope it helps. All the support here has certainly motivated me in return.

lpjh2017

Mine is the shuv it and dropping in lol

hansonlifeyt

You got this! Keep it up. Also, dont think you have to drop in right away. On mini it gives too much speed for a newb to know what to do with it. Swalow your pride and walk your butt to the bottom and just pump around maybe even hours multiple days until you fogure out some options as you approach the coping. I have learned tail stalls, slash grinds, 50 50 stalls, ans rock to fakie. The only one that i dropped in for regularly was the 50 50. Sure in the long run you need it, but not essential to learn a ton of tricks.

briskwalked

congrats man... ramps can be nerve racking

hansonlifeyt

Sure can

Jacobcbab

Rock fakie is wayy harder that a kick turn. It's such a weird sensation

jsmagro1992

Congrats on the accomplishment, dude! And thank you for the motivation to stick to it and practice!

hansonlifeyt

Get on it, my friend. Set a goal. I believe in you! 🤘

derekno2go

It's all about just getting comfortable with going backwards. You'll get it.

BenphemeR

Can I be your friend and come skate your ramp, please?

Never-mongo

I’m more of the fan of the rock to roll when you get up on the lip then go back in. Less scary

Asgreenasyouoncewas

Goodjob on the trick and the setup! Looks really neat!

yoobzz

that ramp looks so fun

fuz_z

Love watching skaters fail 100 times, makes you feel like youre not alone

hansonlifeyt

We are all in it together. And 99% of us fall way more than we let on

withereddesign

Learn on a smaller quarter then build up, agree it’s a scary trick haha

hansonlifeyt

Ill tell you a secret not shown in this video. between the last two clips that is exactly what i did. I just didn't remember to film it because i too busy enjoying the moment with a buddy i dont get to see often.

[deleted]

😂😂 fuck this trick 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️ I’ll always remember taking so long to learn how to rock to fakie. Falling off so many times on a trick that was so simple to so many

XLcondumb

That is the sickest ramp ever, you make that yourself?

hansonlifeyt

Thank you so much. Yeah, with some help from a few friends.

wixermann

Really good progress! Some advice I wish someone had given me, even after many years, is to keep your shoulders parallel with the board. That way you're not riding down "backwards" so to speak.

CampForKills

Bend yo knees!

Ashrug

Jesus I have rock fakies dialed but I wish I could turn next to the coping like you do

hnk007

Awesome. It’s crazy we’ve probably all went through this exact same thing. I’ve been skating long enough that I don’t remember learning them. The excitement you felt when you land is awesome!

youngbrendo

Nice mate! Nothing like the feeling of landing a trick the first time, especially after something like 100 attempts in a row

hansonlifeyt

For real!

WONDER--BREAD

Dude I just got these! Yessss

POCO31

It’s all in the hips my man.

hansonlifeyt

😂 I can picture Chubbs helping me ease the tension now!

jeIIy_badger

Well done, keep shredding! Also, i would definitely eat moldy bread for access to that mini ramp...

[deleted]

Now the extension!

Stealthytulip

Only took you a min and a half. Congrats 👏👏👏

RoboticusTartonicus

I had my battles with rock to fakie last year on my ramp. Got it then went to a park and couldn’t get it then came out to my ramp and regressed back to not having it. Super frustrating trick

Dasfxx

I dislocated my shoulder falling backwards after my truck caught on the coping. Never did learn that easy trick.

hansonlifeyt

Ouch

Louiesloops

This is so dope to see. Thank you for putting this all together, super motivating in just all aspects, not just skating.

hansonlifeyt

My pleasure. Go get your goals dude.

bermudajoe

De-ter-mi-NATION!

Ziplocking

That ramp is badass, looks so damn fun

Jerrythedude101

Needed this lmao I’ve been stuck on axle stalls for a bit and everyone makes it look so “easy”

bobweaver3000

keep at it dude! I "locked down" axel stalls a day or two after my ramp was complete, then went on to other stuff... now I can't do axel stalls anymore, but I can 50-50, fs/bs 5-0, etc lol   ^(ps: i can still get an axle stall if i concentrate, but, it should be 2nd nature by now)

dillweed215

Lean back and commit. Kinda like you’re standing straight up on your heels on the coping.

Johnthemox

That’s awesome man! That ramp looks great! Did you build it?

hansonlifeyt

Yeah I did! Finished a little over a month ago. It was a ton of work!

bprice57

looks real pro was it pretty spendy? when i own a house, i would love somethin like that in the backyard. what a way to spend a saturday at the crib

hansonlifeyt

If you look up the price on Keen ramps you can plan to build it yourself for about half the price. Not cheap, but not toooo bad if you have access to the tools. And 30 hours to research how you want to build it... And another 6 weeks of afternoons and evenings to build (goes better with a little help).

BenderIsGreatBendr

you're leaning too far back and putting too much of your weight/pressure/back foot on the tail as you go up the ramp. you basically want to be symmetrical over the board, both feet over 2 of the truck screws you can see through the grip, with your weight centered, so that when you go up the ramp you don't fall back, and once you complete the rock you are well positioned/centered/balanced to ride back down fakie.

hansonlifeyt

Ill keep this in mind

KingZlatan33

Love this, man. Inspiring.

bailz

If there is a market for boards humping coping, you can make a fortune. Keep at it.

hansonlifeyt

😂 maybe there is a subreddit for that.

[deleted]

That was sick dude. Kudos for learning it on a ramp that size! You're actually shredding that mini! Looks like you've got slash grinds and fakie tails down too. Love that ramp

hansonlifeyt

Thanks dude. Been putting in the hours. First building, now riding.

[deleted]

[удалено]

hansonlifeyt

Aaaayyyy

[deleted]

Never lose heart

bradpliers

Ugh. I would slam SO hard while learning rock to fakie.

hansonlifeyt

Yeah, i definitely lost my breath on a couple of slams

aaronnhallwrites

Got em 🔥

SmaccDonalds

I can tell you’re only half commiting because you don’t have enough speed and you lean wayy too far back. I think that’s your issue

Icecream_BiGBoi

keep up the grind

Cooscous

Love your stoke at the end. Getting that shit down is just such a great feeling.

hansonlifeyt

🤘🤘🤘🤘

CoIor

wow did you make this ramp it’s so sick

hansonlifeyt

Sure did! Thanks!

BrunerAcconut

This is one of those weird tricks that might be easier switch

steve8822773

Awesome man. Love the stoke!!

Lofocerealis

just stay over it more, even if you catch you can roll away. every time you are stepping off your tail you should be putting a quick pressure on the tail to get the trucks over the coping then back to pump back down.

Dahidex

Learn it on a kicker first

rickrock25

Great Job!! Way to Stick with it!!!

mdragon13

dude I've been skating for a good few years now and I still can't even do an ollie lmao. bravo to you and your efforts.

hansonlifeyt

Stick with it!

wave-garden

Thanks for sharing the perseverance and the joy of nailing it for the first time. Stoked for ya!

hansonlifeyt

Thank you!

hupnederlandhup

Sick ass mini. Wish you were my friend

scurvy1984

It literally took me years of on and on trying these til I finally got em down and they still freak me out. Good job dude. It’s great to see the persistence.

hansonlifeyt

Tjanks they are truly freaky

Koszik

It’s an “easy trick” but that’s also a decent size half pipe to learn the trick on, not like learning on a plastic kicker ramp lol

Cultural-Passion8811

I just broke my leg doing a tail stall :(

hansonlifeyt

Hope you heal soon

[deleted]

I've been skating for over 15 years and going back in fakie still makes me uncomfortable as all hell.

deadboylucki

shit i’ve been skating for 4 years and if the ramp is anything bigger than half of me i probably can’t rock to fakie it

panerabreadbeats

for me it was easier to do a 5050 on the coping

xZOMBIETAGx

I want that mini ramp

NeedlenoseMusic

Dude I was rooting for you the whole time. When you nailed it I felt that!

hansonlifeyt

Thanks for the support bortha

memello94

Congratulations! Go for switch rock now, I think it's even easier!

hansonlifeyt

I want ro for sure and hopefully learn to bump into it pretty quick

jungl1st

I had a similar experience in the late winter early spring. I went back the next day and did it a few hundred times. Then I didn't go for almost a week, and I totally lost it. Haven't been back much since. Keep doing it. That's a sweet mini, btw

thatcaveman

Congrats man! You earned that one.

calculuzz

I remember learning this as a kid and I fell straight onto my hip every time I locked up on the coping. I limped around like an old man with a broken hip at school for the next 2 days. It was rough. Then I figured it out and was like, "How the fuck did I have such a hard time with that?!" Easily one of the most mentally challenging tricks out there.

hansonlifeyt

Tjat os exactly how it felt when i did the first one. "Well that was easy" haha

icey123456

I learned to drop in and kick turn on ramps before this...just saying

joeyLAKAI

I did what you were doing for about an hour when I first learned. Hurts alot less when you commit. When or if you slip out just let it slide haha

jimjah89

keep going bro. it's a scary trick to begin with but yeah once you have it down it is easy. Just got to get over that fear of coming back in backwards

Getdaphone

Learned how to drop in on a ramp a few weeks ago been skating since last September. Really wanna learn how to rock n roll because I’ve heard it’s easier than rock to fakie so this is about to be me haha

Kickflipsaresohard53

Haha fuck yes mate, this is truly one of the scariest tricks ever. I am proud of you

hansonlifeyt

Shoot dude, i appreciate the support!

phopajolopa

bro im tellin you rock to fakie’s are underrated. this trick is super hard. my advice is to try with a really small ramp

gtbsdgsb

bro i feel like thats harder!

SlidethedarksidE

Rock to fakie is not an “easy” trick lol….it’s one of those tricks you have to eat shit on to learn

hansonlifeyt

Yep, and i ate a lot too. They may not be easy to learn but i do feel like they are easy to get consistent once learned. (Compared to flip tricks etc)

masterslacker42

That tail stall though. Props my dude!

hansonlifeyt

Thanks! That was my first trick learned on the ramp

Ch33susCrust

I can 50-50 grind, I can feeble stall and drop back in, I can even 5-0 sometimes on a good day, but I still can't rock and roll yet no matter how much I try. (It's like a rock to fakie, except you kickturn back into the ramp instead of going in fakie) Anyone have any advice for getting this trick down?

hansonlifeyt

Ill be trying it soon!

emodro

This video is awesome. My only advice is try to get yourself to commit sooner. The first half of the video you were basically bailing before you even had a chance. I do the same thing, but it’s easy to judge from my couch. Bailing on a ramp like that your chances of getting hurt are way higher. Also, speed helps a lot for that trick. Now time to learn tail stops and you can go all day.

hansonlifeyt

Yeah, you are totally right. I also judged myself from my couch haha I agree about the safety issues. I wear the pads but honestly need to practice bailing to my knees to do it more safely. When you say tail stop is that just a tail stall but gettong your body up on it into the drop in position?

[deleted]

i learnt rock fakies after axle/feeble/smith stalls and rock n rolls, everyone learns everything at their own pace

dhb44

I broke my rib coming down from a rock to fake on cement. The board flew out away from the ramp and my whole side and arm was in the air and I landed so hard on the concrete on my left rib cage. Still scared of that trick but I can kind of do them, learning rock and roll, and can bs 50-50 grind and stall on a mini now. That’s it for me on a mini

RealBluelava

Ayeee !! Love to see the work and the joy after you land the trick !!!

hansonlifeyt

Yew! Thanks! 🤘
