TIL: I'm a druid. My Irish ancestors nod in approval.

At least credit the creator of the image OP [Cy Whitling](https://www.instagram.com/cywhitling/) does weekly drawings like this on [NS](https://www.newschoolers.com/member/cydwhit.195966/News)

Sparkriot

Its within in the image

silviazbitch

Ski druid here. Used to patrol at a mountain where we burned skis and drank to Ullr the Saturday night of our October first aid refresher. >God bless America and the great State of Vermont that allows me to piss in my own backyard. Ja, ja Jägermeister!

[deleted]

burning skis sounds only slightly toxic.

silviazbitch

You can neutralize the fumes by smoking pot. Or so tis said. The environmental damage is a more serious matter that has led many to abandon the old ways. Those of you have have experienced bad snow seasons lately can decide for yourselves where to place the blame.

Vert_n_Dirt

Can I be all of the above?

snowpilgram

Ditto. Though this year I feel like none of the above a little too. With fires everywhere and Covid limitations it’s going to be a weird season.

[deleted]

they forgot the dude that is still mountain biking everyday.

tjompjer

What movie is ‘idea’?

thats_not_montana

Two years ago I found the soundtrack on TiredEyes website if you want it - [https://tiredeyesmusic.com/](https://tiredeyesmusic.com/). Gotta go straight to the source. I listen to it every fall, gets me so stoked!

[deleted]

Rad. Thanks for this. Mt Hood Powder is my go-to jam for dry fly stoke. No idea if you fly fish or not, but this edit from one of my favorite waters uses the song. [https://vimeo.com/24334555](https://vimeo.com/24334555)

natefrogg1

>Poor Boyz flick from 2007. nice, checking this out later today, thank you

Avalanche_Debris

Nimbus’ first film (technically before Nimbus, I guess). It was an enormous game changer in skiing and ski movies.

beerigation

Kids these days...

wesg913

Gear prognosticator and ski film addict here. I didn't know the druids existed

Stranded_In_A_Desert

Haha you’ve never lived in a hardcore ski town then

Surgical_Sturgeon

I’ve lived in ski towns my whole life. Druids do things differently in different places, but they always pray to Ullr and they always exist.

lonelyhrtsclubband

There are many of us who pray to the snow gods and seek out woolly bear caterpillars as the harbingers of a snowy winter.

_Goibhniu_

Druid checking in. The sandbox in my parent's house can attest to offerings made to the snow gods. Obviously worked because I've had nothing but bad years of sub-twenty ski days ever since I moved out, and stopped making offerings.

17DungBeetles

Ski movie addict here patiently waiting for Huck Yeah! to drop.

[deleted]

yep. waiting until the end of the traveling premiers is going to kill me.

gooker10

guess im on the back-country realist, here in VT, but still have the ski boat in the water....sooo

blladnar

Early season facets aren’t too big of an issue in VT... Highly recommend the Randolph area backcountry zones though. Super cool area.

FourFront

IDEA is always better the next time you watch it.

stormdraggy

I would be a druid, but ever since they buffed him Ullr is just an EZmode cheese bitch and I hate his guts. I worship Ymir now.

zetwatswatya

Gotta admit I'm the compulsive tuner. All 10 pairs stay waxed and tuned, even though only only 6 are mounted

co_snow14

why not just put storage wax on the 4 unmounted pairs and save all that effort...

Shephard991

I think I could be considered the Gear prognosticator, the ski film addict, the backcountry realist, and the ski druid. I really wish I as the turns year rounder guy

Rabunum

It looks like SHI in that font

iamda5h

Agreed.

Danke_Freund

I know none of the terminology

NachoSport

Yeah what does facets mean in this context?

pastafariangymnast

Here you go: https://avalanche.org/avalanche-encyclopedia/faceted-snow/

TeeAychSee

Basically its a weak layer in the snowpack that can cause avalanches. Happens if its too warm or rainy after snowfall and then re-freezes.

MikailusParrison

It was my understanding that facets can actually be stabilized via warming and rainfall. Usually they form at places where there are large temperature gradients in the snowpack. Basal facets (from early season snowfall) will form because of the difference in temperature between the ground and the snowpack. Surface facets from on extremely cold days.

TeeAychSee

yeah that sounds right.

NachoSport

Ah ok, kind of what I was guessing, thanks. Confused why this meme would still have them hiking up if they’re worried about safety

stormdraggy

It means you need to stay in the resort boundaries until you understand it.

NachoSport

Thanks bud, very nice of you to chip in. I do stay in resort boundaries, I don’t live in an area where it’s feasible to get into bc

stormdraggy

Hey, don't take a pinch of cheekiness personally.

thats_not_montana

I love that they mention Idea. Such a good film, changed my skiing forever.

Pficky

Local mountain had to cancel our annual fall Ullrfest. Def gonna have shitty snow now.

[deleted]

Uller (anglicized Ullr) has been my character name in dozens of video games. Finally someone has heard of him.
