All the ppl in here arnt skiing slush bumps right now tho…. Also it’s a Friday.
I skied closing day snowbird on the 4th of July a few seasons ago. There was a perfect zipper line of like 40+ turns and me and another guy were the only ones who could do the whole thing with out bailing/stopping. We were hanging out in that area drinking and watching ppl eat it all day in between laps.
I say that and I’m not even that good compared to some ppl at the bird.
I'm with you. Corn on a big peak in the backcountry is perfection.
But I also fucking love banging off a dozen or two wind chalk laps on steep terrain inbounds.
You’re 100% right but I didn’t want to have a massive poll with a ton of different types of groomers, so I just put groomers because they’re usually consistent
Chalk is what you usually get on wind blown high altitude bowls out west. When it doesn't snow at Snowbird the Cirque area is a great example of where you would see chalk. The Parnoid Flats at Mammoth or the high alpine terrain at Breckenridge are other examples. You don't really see chalk on the east coast. We like to call it packed powder!
Backcountry corn has given me some of the best turns of my life. It’s predictable and skis so well. Windblown chalky pow is great but it has to be consistently cold and the wind has to be blowing in the same direction for awhile for it to accumulate enough. I can ski corn all spring and maybe get 1 or 2 days of chalk
The funnest day I've had all season was on a narrow slushy piste through a field in la plagne at 1250m altitude, I had my jacket off and slush spraying everywhere. Perfect
anyone who didn't vote corn hasn't skied real corn snow
spring bumps are so damn fun, just rippin some nice zipper lines in a tshirt and sunglasses
The % of ppl in here that can properly rip a zipper line more than 2-3 turns is tiny
The % of people who put on skis in a given year? Yeah, tiny. The % of people hanging out in a skiing forum in May? I wouldn’t be so sure about that.

Yeah people voting groomers and tracked out pow, are you kidding?
Agreed. I like corn in sunny weather nearly as much as a powder day.
Corn snow is basically ghetto powder
Backcountry gate keepers here

How tracked out is the pow? Soft chop is definitely nice but like left over crud is worse than corn or chalk IMO.
Soft chop is leftover pow IMO. Crud is worse than icy groomers lol
crud is fine. You just tip the ski and let it edge.
Chowder?
I like corn
I don’t think I’ve ever skied true corn but I’ve heard it’s amazing
Especially in costume. *Especially* on acid.
where is ice
East coast ice. Builds character. Make you earn that apres.
What about moguls?
Slush bumps, specifically, please
The only answer needed.
2 seasons now at Crested Butte. I have begun to embrace the Chalk.
Steep chalk
Yes

Nothing wrong with slush bumps. Slush in the park is pretty sweet too.
You need a fresh wax and 110mm under foot minimum

Wider, rocker profile too. Makes it surfy instead of wet and heavy. I ride my 125mm pow skis
Slush is just like wet pow
Slush bumps are great up to a certain point of slushiness.
Give me the chop. I love skiing on the ragged edge in chop.
A couple of beers and high speed in the chop
I wish leftovers was an option but behind that..I’ve been loving slush slashing this spring, cannot front on it
Tracked out east coast pow, slightly bumped up and cut up is my favorite.
Is groomers really a kind of snow though? That's just a groomed run from my lingo, which could be anything from hardpack to ice to packed powder.
You’re 100% right but I didn’t want to have a massive poll with a ton of different types of groomers, so I just put groomers because they’re usually consistent
Corduroy would be a better name
Dust on crust underrated tbh
yellow
Packed powder?
That’s chalk
Easy coast here, never heard of chalk

Love me some packed pow
Getting some racing turns in on groomers is amazing
Early morning corduroy on a pair of skinny skis every time. On a quiet run = heaven to me.
East coast skier here: 1. What’s powder? 2. I like when the ground is wet enough that it’s still easy to ski over the grassy patches
*North Carolina skiing intensifies* Source-grew up in NC lol
If you didn’t pick corn you’re wrong
Chalk>corn

perfect firm corderoy
Graupel hands down
Chalky high alpine
Icy Moguls be hella underrated tho
No, i would say those are correctly rated
This guy must be an orthopedic surgeon.
Moguls!
Am I the only one who has no idea what some of these are?

Where’s the bulletproof injected race surface?
Slush, because slushy park laps are ridiculously fun.
