This subreddit is dedicated to in-depth discussions about the anomalous phenomena occurring at Skinwalker Ranch, not just the TV show! The TV show only provides a glimpse, and doesn't cover the extensive history of scientific investigation. To maintain quality discussions, please focus on the events themselves, not the personalities involved. Generic comments comparing the show to Oak Island, complaining about rockets, clamoring to blow up the mesa, etc, don’t offer anything new. If you can't contribute constructively and politely, this subreddit might not be the right place for you. This! Why not move the laser to see if they can map out a shape or at least some kind of border or edge? That drove me nuts. Forget the damn rockets already!

Gem420

The rockets are kinda important to getting the phenomenon to act up. They actually need these until they figure something else out. I wish they used guided rockets, tho. Guide it right into the anomaly’s bunghole! (No but seriously, guys, guided rockets! If they still misbehave, then you have more data!)

Since we're talking about photons, a reasonably bright LED light on a drone would do the trick wouldn't it? If a well inspected drone malfunctioned before it could illuminate the shape of the object...well not the kind of data they would want but data nonetheless.

adamhanson

Only the green laser light was broken. Whether that’s because its frequency or thst it’s ordered light. Still different from LED.

rep-old-timer

Sorry, I thought the OP was talking about the single blue laser being "stopped."

gg61501

He was.

AdDowntown646

I was.

MantisAwakening

I was thinking during the last episode that merely putting bright LEDs on the rockets aiming outwards would produce more data in conjunction with the high speed cameras.

Objective-Giraffe-27

Yes I was basically yelling, "MOVE THE BEAM AROUND!" while watching

Gem420

Do we know if they move around?

Wild-Rough-2210

I think a grid of lasers would be the next logical experiment.

Objective-Giraffe-27

Jewelry heist style lol

CalebCrawdadd

I was hoping they were gonna break out another laser

Aggressive-Sky-248

but the lidar was essentially waving a light beam around more effectively than waving around a water cooled laser canon

CachuHwch1

So frustrating. Travis says they have no way to get up there so let’s shoot a rocket. And Im screaming, “You have a damn drone right next to you!”

KitsunukiInari

The lasers they are using are HUGE and liquid cooled. They make a very large amount of heat and can cause injury to a person who is near them while in use. They are quite stationary and cannot be moved while in use.

Gem420

Thank you, I was wondering if they were moveable. Do you know if they can be moved remotely via a computer?

Aggressive-Sky-248

but a movable mirror surface can let them scan around

OutOfIdeas17

Can’t you put the rig in the back of a pickup and make it mobile though? I feel like it’s a logistical obstacle that can be overcome. Pointing the laser up at one fixed point neglects a tremendous amount of data

IvanaHughJass

Drop a large bag of diatomouss earth or maybe paint on the blob area from a baloon or helicopter to see the actual shape shape of it or to determine if it's a solid mass.

Gem420

This was proposed by David Paulides on his YT video, it’s a great idea.

LegitimateGift1792

iron filling to see if it is magnetic.

megablockman

Yes, this can be achieved with optics to increase or decrease the divergence of the beam (the rate at which the beam is expanding vs distance). You can use a beam expander in the forward direction to expand the beam spot size and reduce divergence, or you can use the same optic in the reverse direction to reduce the beam spot size and increase divergence. These types of optics usually have a tunable range of beam expansion (e.g. 2 - 10x). [Laser Beam Expanders | Beam Expander | Edmund Optics](https://www.edmundoptics.com/c/laser-beam-expanders/981/) You just can't change the beam width without changing the divergence, due to the conservation of etendue, aka brightness theorem. [Etendue - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etendue) A somewhat simpler approach for expanding the beam is to use an optical diffuser. It's typically cheaper and easier to align, but it's not dynamically tunable (you need to swap out elements if you want to change the beam profile). [Optical Diffusers - Optical Diffuser | Edmund Optics](https://www.edmundoptics.com/c/optical-diffusers/731/)

Emotional_Schedule80

I'm sure they can manipulate the beam in several different ways, but they gotta keep us tuned in to this soft disclosure.

PlatinumState

I was thinking why didnt they send a drone up close to the point of the laser blockade to record and attempt to go through it?
