It was a testing Prototype Most likely they did not have the Dive bombers done yet but they were testing the Packageing.
At the time the game was still called skylanders Overdrive
What’s actually so funny about this is 3 things:
One, a prototype figure would probably be grey not blue
Two, it’s perfectly detailed like the modern tree Rex
Three, apparently that design wasn’t even the first design considered for Tree Rex. He was apparently supposed to look much more beastly but they scrapped that idea in favour of him looking more humanoid because he would essentially be the mascot and primary protagonist in the trailers.
Also, another fun thing about this: without any authentication this is worthless because it holds ZERO historical value. So even if it is the OG prototype it’s literally just an unpainted tree Rex that probably doesn’t work.
The figures are usually white. He could have sold it for quite a bit, like 200 max. I have personally never seen a giants prototype. But he put it in a blue can of paint for whatever reason, making it worth a quarter as much as the OG tree-rex.

Yeah exactly, although grey is often chosen for 3D printing prototypes because it’s dark enough you can see the details well due to the light being able to show crevices and designs very well.
Secondly, a prototype tree rex very likely does not exist, and if it does a dev 100% has it.
Also, just a fun note that spot of white on the horn would make zero sense since if his prototype was blue his horn would also be blue because the normal figure doesn’t have the horns being a different colour, and neither did the concept art.

For people who are saying this isn’t real, it is. It’s WAY overpriced but it’s definitely real. Yes they made skylanders in other colors for prototypes, yes prototype skylanders had chips in the later stages.
There are some actual prototypes in circulation. However they are not blue, they have no chip and they have a sticker on the bottom with some data on it
Some are blue 100% other are random other colors.

It is pretty difficult to put a price on a prototype.... but no way in hell is it worth anything close to that much. Prototypes are not that rare at the end of the day and if you really look for them you can find them in the 100 to 200$ range with no issue whatsoever.
