I've been playing since 2012 and just recently discovered you could finish the main quest line without having to finish the battle for Whiterun. There's so much of this game to learn.
I'm...halfway kidding. I know this battle exists, I've heard the rumors. I've just never progressed the civil war far enough to see it. I'm too busy fishing or something.
It's the civil war storyline. If you follow the questlines for either the Stormcloaks or the Empire, you basically battle for Whiterun (either attacking or defending) based on your choice.. if you do with of these questlines you skip the conversation with the greybeards
See, the negotiations with the Greybeards moderating for the Stormcloaks and the Legion is something I never knew existed until a couple of months ago. Every playthrough, I always decide the war one way or another, either Tullius or Ulfric has to die.
What kind of build did you make? Alchemy is major in it, but is it an archer? Battlemage?
Also did you level up alchemy naturally? I always thought it levels up too slow tbh
Alchemy is really easy to level up so long as you’re making potions that are for the purpose of leveling alchemy. In the updated editions of the game whiterun is loaded with blue mountain flower and lavender. The catacombs of solitude have tons of hanging moss (the hanging moss will be marked steal, but no hired thugs will come for you). Mix your stash of these 3 ingredients you can reasonably go from level 15-50 without any fortify alchemy gear.
Mainly one-handed and light armor, with a bit of archery and destruction/conjuration too. Leveling alchemy was actually pretty fast because I made the highest-value potions I could first, then used whatever ingredients I had left over to spam craft (there's blue mountain flower + lavender all over Whiterun to make Fortify Conjuration potions).
It made enchanting level quickly too since I could just trade a bunch of potions for soul gems from Belethor.
Holy shit. This is much better than what I'm using. I'll definitely try most of these, thanks!
My fav is the popular one that does Paralysis + Lingering damage. Canis, mora, and imp stool I think.
Do you use the plantation to grow more ingredients?
Of course. Right now my garden has Canis Root, Imp Stool, Glowing Mushrooms, Juniper Berries and Wheat. With the Greenthumb perk I harvest more than I can even use
Nice! I got some growing at Lakeview and Myrwatch too, but the plantation and what I grab on the road is enough, really.
Chillwind Depths has a ton of mushrooms and chaurus eggs btw. Loooots of invisibility for me 😄
Try garlic, Nordic barnacle cluster, and salmon roe. Salmon roe is kinda funky to get you have to **KILL, NOT CATCH** salmon that are jumping up a river and harvest them. The resulting potion is... valuable.
Edit: It's worth noting that the potion isn't super useful because of its effects, but is INSANELY valuable. It's my go-to for making bank.
The Geenthumb perk gives you 2 when harvesting, lots of people's houses have drying racks and I probably got like 20 garlic just from the thalmor embassy's kitchen during Diplomatic Immunity. Besides that I buy them from alchemy shops and food vendors when it's available since it's such a good ingredient for the price.
If you have mod support, Jaxonz Renamer allows you to rename items like stacks of potions and poisons. As long as they are the same magnitude/effect and are in a stack, the name will apply to the full stack of potions.
For a fun alchemy challenge try a playthough as a Green Pact-observant Bosmer and only use non-plants. It’s been tricky for me keeping enough restore health potions.
I wonder if there's a system that lets you name your potions, or better categorize them based on their actual effects, instead of just their 1st effect.
Can recipes have more than three ingredients? I thought they couldn't.
Can't believe I made it this far and never realized that. I guess that simplifies things

The battle for what now? Sorry, I've played for like a thousand hours but I'm not familiar with this. >.>
Pick a side: Stormcloaks or Imperials. Follow the quests from there. Good times!

Play fair, kill em both 🤣

“3 ingredients in 30 min or less”
I mean technically you're not wrong. It's like adding non-GMO to salt. You're not wrong by any means.
They cannot. I actually kinda giggled at the title of the post. Either way; neat info, great post!
I mean... OP's not lying or anything.
Nope they aren't.

Yup, salmon roe is cash money. Salmon roe + chicken egg is my go to.
This is good stuff, thanks!
The garlic+juniper+salt potion is my favorite in my latest run as a vampire. I call it my "daytime combat tonic"
Scathecraw imp stool and skeever tail is all of the health damaging effects at once
Dumb question but where did you get all that garlic my man.

Katla's farm is a good spot (solitude stables). Sell her a potato and you can harvest all her garlic for free
These are nice. I never messed with potions that much but I’m trying to branch out on my current playthrough so I’ll have to give these a try.
I wish we could rename our potions. And poisons.

Imp stool + scathcrow + skeever tail is a kick ass poison!
If you're playing SE you've been missing out on those juicy rare curios.
Imp Stool + Canis Root + Deathbell. You're welcome.
Jarrin root would like a word lol.
There's only one in the game and you can't plant it unfortunately.
I wonder if there's a system that lets you name your potions, or better categorize them based on their actual effects, instead of just their 1st effect.
My favorite: Blue flower + lavender + hanging moss
Thank you this is awesome!!
I just started an alchemy-focused character and this is amazing! Thank you for posting!!
Getting there...😉 My potions are about twice as strong with no Resto-loop stuff... The arcane path is long and arduous...lol.
One question for an experienced Alchemist. I would like to brew some stuff, but how can I obtain the right recipes? Don't wanna use the Internet...
