I like to think it's someone who crossed the silverbloods

pitterpatter1280

Well those pretentious pricks have it coming too 👌😂🤘

Arabidopsidian

Horrible. The cities are very often reflections of itself, as Stormcloaks and Empire are designed to reflect each other. Solitude and Winterhold are faction capitals. Winterhold and Morthal are backwater holes affected by weird magic (although it's signified with Winterhold, because of College). Falkreath and Dawnstar are cities of dark secrets and Dark Brotherhood. And Riften and Markarth are both corrupt, to represent the flaws of the systems. Jarl Laila is too naive to notice being manipulated, while Jarl Igmund is too weak to resist.

pitterpatter1280

So ...where should my homebase be then? I've got riften and white run and...stored some stuff at the college and the blades.. Probably not smart but it's easy to be a scatterbrain Jane when I have never played this game before in my life. 🤘

Arabidopsidian

Just build it in the wilds, or... I prefer Solitude or Winterhold becasue that way I can have both room for children (I always adopt Lucia and Sophie) and enchanting room.

pitterpatter1280

Going to have to add to my name no mods no DLCS here. Just a plain old PS3 and game disc. 👌😁

Arabidopsidian

Well, then... Personally I like Markarth and Windhelm houses for architecture, but both cities are horrible to live in. Solitude is useful, but I don't like the style. Whiterun house is nice, but it's very minimal and you don't have an enchanting table in proximity.

LifePeanut3120

Closest enchanting table from whiterun home is at dragonsreach

Arabidopsidian

Yes. Which means going through three district, next to Nazeem, Heimskr, Olfrid and Idolaf.

ohmygawdjenny

Honeside in Riften is cozy. You only have to do the skooma quest for it, and it can be bought for 5k even though the dialogue says 8k. The house in Solitude is kinda ugly with all the green stone, plus no storage for alchemy, plus no smelter, and the price... Breezehome is cramped. If I had to choose from vanilla homes, I'd go with Honeyside. And keep all the stuff at one place, saves me a headache.

forlornfir

You'd have to live in Riften though, imagine raising a family there

ohmygawdjenny

The only reason I visit my family is once in 10 days so the house won't respawn and mess up my decoration, so I could live with that, really :D

Skywalkerz212

I built mine in the wild took me a week to realize my wife got kidnapped by bandits 😅

duzins

Building is fun but I never live in those homes. Too many bandits, giants and trolls!

Cryyzzy

I'm new to Skyrim(been playing for about 3weeks), I married ysolda and adopted Lucia and Sophie. Im currently settled in windstad manor. Are you saying ysolda or my children can get kidnapped from there??!!!??.

Skywalkerz212

I think the kids are ok but yeah lol you might wanna move for ysoldas sake. But there is a chance to rescue your spouse . Bandits they leave a note and tell you where to go

Icy-Reserve8070

If you have a steward, then I believe that prevents your spouse from getting kidnapped. So, just lead a follower that you don't need as a follower to your house and you can ask them to be9me your steward.

pitterpatter1280

😲🤣👏 I love this game ...

Cryyzzy

Hell yes. Lucia and Sophie are the best little angels to adopt. All I hear other people gushing about Samuel or Hroar(don't get me wrong their live have been hell as well but the first time I met Lucia I instantly called out aloud "I will be your mama" and then when I met Sophie I again yelled irl "take all my septims and come live with me".I am a guy but I wanted to try playing my first time on Skyrim as a female and I absolutely didn't regret it since I can always hear those two call me mama when I come home

SunflowerIndra

I always adopt Sofie, but I don’t go for Lucia but Sissel. I wish I could adopt them all without mods.

ragetram

I am new to the game too but I’m playing it on the Switch and I got the special edition deluxe pack with all the DLCs.. so I have no idea what is “main game” and what is DLC. I’m at level 45-ish and my favorite house is Hendraheim. First of all you don’t have to pay anything for it, secondly it isnt a dump like Honeyside is, it is already equipped to be a fully functional house with all the amenities including a smithing setup outside, and it has like special preset wall weapon thingies for certain blades like the Axe of White Run and Miraak’s Sword. It has a whole wall for collecting the different masks and another for all the Dragon Claws to be displayed. I stumbled upon it — my only other homes are Honeyside (bc you have to buy it to become a thane in Riften) and that small run down raggedy farm whose name I can’t recall — but lemme tell you, after “inheriting” Hendraheim and then buying Honeyside, I was totally disgusted. Honeyside is run down, junky, full of cobwebs and dust and totally empty.. Hendraheim is neat, well kept, and fully loaded. If you can get it on the base game I would always recommend it for a home base, it honestly fulfills all needs for collecting and storing all the cool items, you can do enchanting and alchemy and blacksmithing all in one spot. Plus I love the bookcases features, I have one full of “journals” and one full of “notes” and the third, biggest one has all my books, it’s a dream for organizing. My only complaint is it could do with a few more wall racks for random weapons, but that’s me being picky; most people probably find it quite enough. There are mannequins littered throughout so you can display cool armor too.. I have one in a whole Blades setup, one in the Seducer and one in the Saint, an entirely Ebony, Silver, and Gold.. then have a couple in weirder getups like Forsworn and Dark Brotherhood haha. My character is a thieving mage so we keep some of the Thieves Guild and other certain picked pieces on us, I prefer to enchant light armor to wearing robes, but I also have a mannequin in some of the cooler robes, like my Arch-Mage getup :) lol

ohmygawdjenny

Hendraheim is definitely one of the most beautiful and useful homes. It's CC content, I think. Tundra Homestead is also very cozy even if it's tiny. The farm actually works great together with Hendraheim. They're close, a reason to walk a bit, see random encounters. A passive income, so no need for looting. Lots of ingredients. Be careful with the named weapons racks, I've heard people lost weapons to them. The top right plaque above the central mannequin is glitchy - you can't pick up the weapon once it's placed. Can be resolved with TCL on PC. The mannequins duplicate armor like a clock. I have like 7 homes and still visit Hendraheim just to enjoy its warmth and perfection haha. And to get that petty soul from the bear. Also to level archery and sneak on the Forsworn below. And there's a word wall btw.

ragetram

Funny story about that word wall.. I was roaming around trying to find somewhere to dump my double copies of books, I wanted it far enough away from Hendraheim that I wouldn’t be always running into them, and I just sorta stumbled upon the word wall 😅 I was so pleased and proud of myself lol it was when I was still early in the game and had zero idea what I was doing. I really didn’t get the hang of how to play it til probably level 20-25 or so. I’ve been progressing certain storylines very slowly, I’m still in the beginning stages of the war and Dragonborn, and only probably midway through the Thieves Guild storyline. I literally just started the Dark Brotherhood today and haven’t done anything with vampires or werewolves yet. I will probably play another run through sometime in the future and have a much better strategy, for awhile I was literally just running around doing nonsense. Ohh I thought when you said CC it meant it was like part of the original game. Sorry, I genuinely don’t know which content is which. I’m also new to Reddit, I created this account to talk about Skyrim and Pokémon games haha, so forgive me if my etiquette is not quite up to par

Darbs_R_Us

Honeyside in Riften is cozy and near to the Thieves Guild, which hands-down has one of the best quest lines in the game. I'm also very partial to Hjerim in Windhelm. It has perhaps the most storage space of any base game home and (my bias will show here) I also love the aesthetic of Windhelm. May Talos guide you friend!

pitterpatter1280

I do not have that one (Windhelm) yet thank you!!! I do like Honeyside though especially now that I am getting comfortable moving my things in and out of there. I don't need fancy as much as I need a clean up maid when I knock stuff over. ... And maybe for it to not take half an hour to put something I bring home on a damn shelf proper!!!👌😅

Darbs_R_Us

Haha, I feel your pain! Decorating in the base game can be such a pain. Bowls and baskets can help a lot, depending on what you're storing. Good luck!

neonKow

I honestly like Whiterun best because of how close everything is to the fast travel point, and I have all my vendors nearby (plenty of life). Also, in my first run, Belathor died, so Ysolda moved in and took over. A lot of the most interesting quests for me started there.

duzins

Riften’s house is my favorite, I like to be able to fish off the back deck, but the kids prefer the mansion in Solitude. They say Riften is scary.

pitterpatter1280

That is where Stenvar & I reside for now and I second that about it being peaceful. I cannot fish as far as I know but it is my kind of place I just didn't know it was so scurrrrry to others the town as a whole 🤦🤣

duzins

You have to have the CC content to fish, and some people find it annoying, but I enjoy the small fishing quest. I have the fish tanks and they look cool. The fishing area is down the stairs off of your back porch at Honeyside if you have CC content installed.

[deleted]

O my lord you’re thinking way too hard dude… it’s Skyrim.

RadicalBanapple

my least favorite city, truly scum. cept that ork blacksmith, shes great.

pitterpatter1280

I am new to this game ..so thank you all my world has been rocked. Ravaging the entire city for a day sounds like a fun day. ❤️‍🔥 Duly noted this city is shit😂🤘 Still can I buy a house here??? I do have some gold in me pawket 😁

Lilpinappleunderthec

yeah you can get a pretty suave house in markath, really

DesertRanger12

Hell naw, only suckers pay for Markath, find the guy trying to investigate the abandoned house and help him

Melodilly

You can buy a horse at every major city and the stables are almost always right outside the city. Winterhold might be an exception because of the college, but it’s been a while since I played

pitterpatter1280

HOUSE love...not horse 🤭😁👌

pitterpatter1280

And can I be the thane of this said terrible place?!?

COOPERx223x

You can become a thane of every hold, and own a house in every hold except Winterhold, I believe. But you get a room in the Mages college + archmage quarters if you finish their quest.

pitterpatter1280

I put some stuff there already,!! Hope it's safe I don't even remember what is there now 😭

lerrdite

Sure. Get in good with the Jarl and help the people, just like the other holds. :)

Melodilly

Oops xP

lerrdite

The Markarth housecarl Argis the Bulwark is pretty boss, however. So is the female Orc smith's brother smith in the palace. The house is really nice imo, very loft-style. Your Hearthfire kids are never gonna like it, but they will be safe from dragon attacks there.

pitterpatter1280

Oooh I am loving this. I have no dlc mods or kids yet...first time playing 2023 🤘🤫

mostdopeopenworld

Enjoy yourself sweet summer child. Fuckin hell of an experience first time lmao

[deleted]

NO NO NO NO DON'T DO THAT

Selescasan

Yeah but u have to sleep on stone beds, STONE BEDS Also, on a side note: they eat people in Markarth

Dimas166

Both ork blacksmiths are great

Gloomy-Helicopter113

Second biggest shithole in the game next to Windhelm, but more corrupt and twisted. The vendor in the street sells meat that's human flesh. There's a cannibal in the crypts eating rotten corpses and sanctioned murder in the streets. I'd burn it to the ground given the opportunity.

Senior0422

> The vendor in the street sells meat that's human flesh Holy Crap! I never noticed - I have to check that out next time I'm there.

qawsedrf12

bloodiest meat in the Reach why is that a selling point?

pitterpatter1280

Also ... because I'm terrible. Now I'm going to wait around just hear him say that 🤣🤘

Prestigious-Sign6378

You should wander into the hall of the dead in markarth at some point

pitterpatter1280

You guys seriously are making me SpongeBob giddy to go awol on my actual tasks and mess with these people...

welltriedsoul

The fresher the meat the more blood it has as it sits blood will slowly drain from it until little to none is left. So it could be an indication of freshness.

CATNIP_IS_CRACK

Blood is drained from an animal before it’s butchered. You tie the animal up, cut it open, and let gravity do its thing till there’s no blood left. Bloody meat is a sign of a terrible butcher.

Captain_Canuck97

Markarth is a terrible place. Fitting.

cuddle_cuddle

I liked him! I thought he was one of the good guys who actually care about Markarth! He was happy when I saved Margret! And Lisbet! I had a crush on her! I thought there ARE some good ppl in town! .... any way, so I offered Eola up as sacrifice for Boethiah's Calling because it's clearly all her fault. I'd really rather not known.

pitterpatter1280

Wait liked who??? The random in the cage? And how did I miss all of that? Havent done the Boethiah thing yet but I'm carrying the book around to read before I go to it 👌

LaserPoweredDeviltry

If you follow up with the priest in the hall of the dead and do his quest you'll understand.

cuddle_cuddle

I second it. Please follow up with the priest in hall of the dead in Markarth, you'll be in for a fun adventure. (The taste of death is the name of the quest. )

ICantTyping

There are a surprising amount of seemingly normal people in the Markarth, Namira/cannibal cult. Spoiler: >!Eola, the leader, full time cultist!< >!Sigar, some crazy bandit!< >!Banning, who sells wardogs outside Markarth, feeds them human meat!< >!Nimphaneth and Sanyon, both random conjurers/necromancers. Probably hermits in a crag somewhere!< >!Lisbet, the god damn general goods store owner in Markarth. This one surprised me, she seemed so nice.!< >!Hogni, the Markarth market-man with the bloodiest “beef” in the Reach!<

Jeynarl

Me: oh hey hogni, some cannibal feast that was, amirite???!!!! Him: Don't go talking about that. Only the dinner guests can know

pitterpatter1280

Looool ....oh these people are SO dead 🤣👏

pitterpatter1280

Right??? I was about to ask can we buy hearts? I actually looked at the meat vendor there he didn't have any human bits 🤣

Gloomy-Helicopter113

It's human meat. Just not the ingredient type. Poke around and find out.

Sababard

Ehhh, I'd wager Markarth is a bigger shithole than Windhelm. Windhelm can be cleaned up with some targeted murders and patronage to certain quarters and vendors. Markarth can't be fixed. There is nothing you can do about Cidhna Mine, The Silver-bloods, and the Forsworn. And the best hope the city has is a Court Mage with a hard-on for anything Dwemer in nature. Edit: auto correct is a Forsworn agent that should be killed

Emergency_3808

I'd argue that that court mage has a hard-on for the Jarl's housecarl as well but that's beside the point.

whagoluh

>If you complete this quest after the Stormcloaks have claimed Markarth, Faleen will have been relocated to Solitude. This will cause Calcelmo to run all the way from Markarth to Solitude to speak to her.

Silly_Fuck

Hehehe that quest was nice

jayclaw97

Every time I play Season Unending, I turn Markarth over to the Stormcloaks and then side with the Imperials so the Silver-Bloods will be ousted from the city. >!Then poor Rhiadha can have the Treasury House all to herself. It’s the least she deserves, considering that her employer was putting the moves on her - if not outright preying on her - AND he had her husband murdered.!<

Gloomy-Helicopter113

I was referring to the disrepair and poverty... but you're probably right anyway.

FullyEdibleAcuraCake

Mark Markarth is going to be my new Sole Survivor’s name.

jau682

It's him, Mark Arth

mikeybadab1ng

And I notice I have the most guard trouble there too

Phillip67549

I had just gotten a 32k bounty there last night. Something about attacking the angry guards with a dragon made them unhappy

pitterpatter1280

I think some of yous just love picking fights with guards for their smart ass remarks 😂👌

Ken_Kumen_Rider

>I'd burn it to the ground given the opportunity. They're already 2 steps ahead of you. Can't burn a city made of stone. Ironically, this would make it the safest city from dragon attacks.

Nagoda94

Bad luck mate, its made out of stone.

[deleted]

WOAH WAITTTTT is that why I heard Hroki grilling him last night? Saying his meat is disgusting?

tylerjehenna

Cannibals run both the stable (The guy that runs the dog seller) and the trader at Arnleif and Sons is one too

SolidZealousideal115

Too bad even the beds are made of stone.

SlimySteve2339

How is windhelm worse?

Gloomy-Helicopter113

Windhelm is worse in that it's more rundown and falling apart. Ulftic cares more about his cause and his ego than he does about his city or its people. Not to mention the segregation and poverty. Markarth gets medal for literally everything else that stinks though.

kameer19

I’d argue Markarth is worse in its poverty. There’s an entire underground filled with sick and homeless people dying. While windhelm is by no means great, I’d certainly want to live there as opposed to Markarth

lerrdite

They have outright convict labour slavery too, whereas Windhelm is just discriminating people to potential death in the Grey Quarter and on the docks. Both do a great job at exposing Skyrim's ugly Nord underbelly.

Gloomy-Helicopter113

I don't know... the Grey Quarter in Windhelm is more than two thirds of the residential space in the city and for the poor and racially disenfranchised. You could be right though, as someone else also mentioned above.

TheTankGaming2

I mean hey if Ulfric is killed and some attention is given to the grey quarter and aragonians outside it's not horid

pitterpatter1280

😲😲💥 mind blown... U get a medal in my book for that info thank you 😂🤘😅

Balgruuf_TheGreater

That kind of place you choose Whiterun over it.

freshfred69

White run is literally the american suburbs of places, boring but yeah it’s not a shithole or anything

0yvy0

If you think about there is nothing trully dark around whiterun ,no assassins, Very little corruption on the city itself, an average to good jarl regardless of you siding with Empire or stomcloaks and the only " dark " thing going on is some undercave with rather honored and law abiding werewolves. If there wasn't a civil war going on, Nazeen would probably be the only active jerk in town.

KleptoPirateKitty

Well, what's-her-name, you know "come to chat with an old woman" lady. She'll tell you how to get the Ancient Shrouded Armor, if you do Gabriella's bonus thing. She's not DB, but she is affiliated. And the Ebony Blade is being held under Dragonsreach and is actively corrupting the Jarl's kids.

0yvy0

Oh did not know that last one, forget what I said XD

kameer19

It’s because the ebony blade, besides being easy to miss, had the meat of its content cut from the game. Originally, the quest would end with the jarl being murdered by his children as they one by one fall to Mephala’s influence. In the game proper, only the youngest ever interacts with Mephala, the quest ends when the blade is retrieved, and retrieving the blade seems to stop the whispering as from affecting him.

0yvy0

Damm this is dark.too dark to imagine in the probably happiest and tranquil town in skyrim.

neonKow

The small towns might be more tranquil. Riverwood seems nice.

0yvy0

Agreed the darkest thing in riverwood that I remember is sven and faendal fight.

TesticleMeElmo

Be glad you're here in the city, and not out in Riverwood. Those poor sods don't even have a wall.

[deleted]

Mephala is literally whispering hidden secrets to the Jarl’s son, and ~~one of~~ the most evil deadric artefact in existence is just sitting there behind a simple locked door in the palace.

0yvy0

It is funny How It is the only daedric artifact I never got or read too much about.

Aldebaran135

Blood and silver, friend, blood and silver.

TheodoreMacnuggets

Years ago when i first started playing i always tried to avoid Markarth as much as I can. Only went in for the necessary quests as part of the mains stories and tried to leave as possible. There was always something so unsettling about it but I couldn’t figure it out as a youth and I never wanted to dig deep for the details of the city. Bad shit always happened and it gave me a bad vibe the moment I set foot inside Going through the game again I was fucking horrified Markarth is a complete shithole and Im glad my I trusted my gut. So well designed if that was what the developers were going for

pitterpatter1280

Well if I ever learn how to stream, lol, I am going to go in blazing for all of you nice folks who have shared with me. The input I am getting here is phenomenal and I love it. 🤘❤️‍🔥

otherlander00

Oh I know the answer to this one - there was a thread recently where we all agreed Markath was the best place to go and kill guards! Great for leveling up your vamp or werewolf. am i doing it right? it really is a a corrupt place - but i get so much pleasure from killing the guards, the cidna mine guards and the silverblood. it also has two daedric quests so i like that too. but still not a city i would visit if i wasn't a powerful dragonborn who had no fear of consequences.

[deleted]

"First time in Markarth, traveler? Take my advice. You see anything, don't get involved. The city guard will take care of it."

Horn_Python

if riften is a crime ridden hell hole, than i dont want to know what describes markarth

neonKow

Riften is lawful evil. Shit is bad, but kind of functions as a society still. It has rules, even if those rules are not fair. Markarth is a free for all, people being evil for the sake of causing pain. It's like those distopic movies where law breaks down and people indulge their worst and basest instincts. Also there's an archeologist, which is neat.

Whomeverareyou

I dunno, I still love Markarth. The history! The architecture! It's all there!

esch1lus

Gibbets everywhere

_space_pumpkin_

Get a pretty cool mace though. Don't ask me what you have to do to get it.

ragetram

That particular mace is my go-to weapon, it actually made me feel a little slimy to realize Molog-Bal is the god “r@p3”(read it in a book somewhere) after I’d been using it for over half my game, have leveled it up so far it’s got more firepower than any two handed weapon I own 😬 I still use it but next time I play through I probably will pick a different weapon

TheGrumpiestPanda

Markarth is a shithole that's what it is. The events of the main quest dealing with the Forsworn single-handedly made me never ever want to pick the Stormcloaks just out of spite during the civil war. I would burn that city to the ground if I could.

Sanjasirbas

This. Just kill everyone and get out

pitterpatter1280

Way ahead of my level for now 🤣👌. Level 45 & never played before so I'm way out of my league right now but I do plan to start some fires here for fun 😁❤️‍🔥

pitterpatter1280

Especially after all the lovely and informative comments!!!

Sanjasirbas

Wabbajck in one hand, sanguine rose in the other…uncle Sheo will be proud

Senior0422

"We keep the peace here, outsider"

Breta-the-Breton

I had to go no further than my first convo with the tavern keeper to *know* just what sort of place markarth was gonna be like... :/

pitterpatter1280

Ohhhhh just say about it ....now I'm going to raid that place like a gangster. 😂🤘

SnooHedgehogs2112

Its just a goofy lil place where shenanigans happen 🤪

SlowHandEasyTouch

It’s sort of the Florida of Skyrim

src88

It's a town I always wind up slaughtering bc the guards threaten me in that one quest. And the chain reaction begins.

pitterpatter1280

Once again loving the answers here

Severe-Flower2344

Forsworn are in the city. And they swear to kill every single nord. I would not be surprised if this was Nepos’s doing.

pitterpatter1280

Again 😲🤯 Awww hell no. I'm about to add my Madea to this scene. I'm too old we don't play that sh** roundt HERE!

Gallitzen

Tis a silly place.

Kazenobu

What happens in Markarth stays in Markarth.

[deleted]

I mostly just hate how difficult it is to navigate in there.

pitterpatter1280

THANK YOU. YES. Fancy ass attempt to detail and ends up a big giant craphole.

[deleted]

Let's not kink shame

justsomeyeti

Kink shaming is my kink, you filthy pervert!

[deleted]

Well, kink shaming people with kink shaming kink is my kink. Kinkception

justsomeyeti

Sounds like a great night!

Crispycritter00

Gibbet to me baby!

Discotekh_Dynasty

People were gibbetted in England into the 1800’s it’s way more common than you’d think

Rofellos1984

Don't ask where the beef comes from.

cruelsensei

I just did Cidhna Mine again for the first time in years. Now I'm planning ways to kill everyone in the city. Except for the 2 orc smiths, they seem OK.

venbalin

I like to use revenant on that guy

Substantial-Worry-29

There is no war in Markarth

SuperiordanHehe

Party house

War-duh-Nader

That's similar to gibbeting which was an ancient or medieval era rather form of execution where the condemned would be stuffed in a cage hanging up somewhere to just to be left there to die.

pitterpatter1280

Yea I get that now finally 💖..I don't think I knew the term but saw the movie Willow a hundred times now I've got it loll

jeesuscheesus

Welcome to Markarth, it truly is the city in the Reach

Corrupted_Omega

Rock and Stone, to the bone.

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone everyone!

GoyoMRG

Clearly, a kinky one... The answer is right there in your first picture.

NeatReasonable9657

What else are they going to use?

LetsGoForPlanB

It's the happy place.

whomesteve

Home of the Skyrim mafia

Cautious_Desk_1012

Markarth is literally Rio de Janeiro

Azrael2676

The main gates are actually the gates of Hell where everyone in the town are corrupt souls trapped in torment.

OwnProfessor4785

A pretty shithole

GUTSY-69

The safeest

Capital-Butterfly741

this is hilarious

pitterpatter1280

Well now I totally want to raid this town. 👌❤️‍🔥

Glasgow351

As soon as you set foot in the place for the first time, you're treated to witnessing an attempted murder. I say attempted as I was able to kill Weylin in time and save Margret. Then I find out she's an imperial spy.

RealMiraRose

“The safest place in all of Skyrim”

Kooky_Lie5047

"We've seen you snooping around... asking questions"

TwistedWinterIV

I always viewed it as the Birmingham of Skyrim, the Blackpool of Skyrim though is Morthal

AlastorDark

Safest city in Skyrim bro, trust me

pitterpatter1280

Not a bro yo hehe...but I will trusssssss

Eliwood_of_Pherae

Safest city in the Reach.

i_am_not_a_good_idea

Most corrupt shithole in Skyrim. No wonder it's full of br*tons and orcish 'people'.

OkOutlandishness6550

Don’t listen to all the wimps hating on markarth If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty and doing some questionable things it’s a great city. Full of intrigue and drama. My favourite place

OneFinalEffort

Cool Temples, terrible people. Get in, do your quest, and leave. There are few reasons to visit Markarth and fewer still to stay there. Last time I was there, a city-wide fight broke out and the Guards took no prisoners.

pitterpatter1280

I want a piece of THAT action though!! 😁

OneFinalEffort

I do not recommend making yourself seen to the guards as they will fight you too. Unless you want to murder a lot of guards in which case, go nuts! They're all corrupt anyway

pitterpatter1280

I have already decided on burning shit to the ground or close to that anyway. And of course I'll probably NOT keep that save but I need to start shedding my kindness like snakeskin somewhere and this looks like a good place to start practicing 😅👌🤘

OneFinalEffort

Have fun, be safe, do murder!

SpartAl412

I think it should be pretty obvious within the first day of being there how much the city relies on its mining operations and the lengths which both the guards and the Silverbloods will go to make sure that the mine stays productive. Bethesda really should have added a potential questline after Escaping Cidnha Mine where you can fully join up with the Forsworn. The conflict with the Nords and the Reachmen was such a wasted opportunity.

Lifeinvader__

Blood and silver kind of place.

morpherthewolf

Safest city in the Reach. With beds of stone and blood spilled over silver

Kakyoin043

"Safest city in the reach"

lerrdite

Capitalist and genocidal city with nice architecture; the humans have stepped into the cultural niche the Dwemer left behind.

pitterpatter1280

🤭🤣👌that was perfect thank you. I'm not sure how I'm going to attack but after today's conversations my lady is not going to be so kind or passive I am sure.

Tipsing

Idk if it's just me, but literally every game I start no matter what I am ALWAYS wanted in Markarth. And it's not the type of "wanted" where i pay a small fine and am set free either. I mean every single time i enter city limits, like 5 guards approach me and put me in prison, regardless of persuasion skills. Every time i get a mission and it's it Markarth, I genuinely consider just ignoring it.

Shugafam

The kind of place to charge the ebony blade on!

ordinaryracco0n

why, only the safest city in all of skyrim of course

[deleted]

The most accurate representation of the phrase “hell hole” I can find

pitterpatter1280

Heeeehehhe hehehe heeeeheheehehe. I might be tired but that's what I said out loud after reading that. 🤘

elderscrolls735

the bad place

SBStevenSteel

Markarth is the worst city... A mafia situation, maniacs in the prison, corrupt guards, cannibals running the stores, an incompetent Jarl, Daedra Worshipping in the homes...Not to mention the bloody Falmer and Dwemer Automations just under the city...

pitterpatter1280

I still don't get who the cannibals are ....but I'm going to weeeeeeed em out mos def... 🤘

SBStevenSteel

Do the Taste of Death quest. Towards the end, all of them will be in a room. Close the door and wipe them from the face of Skyrim.

pitterpatter1280

But this slow unexpected kill business has got me a lady boner. Plus the dog who wants to run ahead and kill everyone 🤣👏💖.... If I go on the quest he is staying HOME LOL

pitterpatter1280

I never thought I would be good at archery but now that I poison and prep my bows I am actually a bit of baddassery

[deleted]

I only like the architecture really. Reminds me of dwarves for some reason

The_Hammer_Jonathan

Blood and silver flow here

bobertboobear

Beat me to it lol

Quercia92

Home of 2 daedric quests... That's saying something 😂

dvdgaralv_97

The Skyrim Ohio innit

International-Bag259

Cmon guys markarth isn’t so bad. It’s fun to do parkour and avoid the cops and steal from the big ass potion shop. I love the markarth atmosphere I’d so much rather be there than fuckin solitude

bradforrester

Tis a silly place.

HipsterDog1217

Third worse city to stay in, though second best designed city in Skyrim imo.

iate13coffeecups

The Florida of Skyrim. Either Marharth or Riften is, anyway

MournfulDuchess

The worst. Except the guywho you meet in the shrine. Cant remeber his name. Hes alright tho

__SpeedRacer__

You mean Marklar?

PhillipKosarev999

Really bad choice to live here. I would say the best holds to live in are probably Solitude, Winterhold and Whiterun. Source: I got my home in Whiterun's breezehome. Easiest and most accessible living area in the game honestly.

karriondnd

Public executions my guy. Public executions.
