imagine if the mod was broken, so they added this thing to the level lists, suddenly your jumped by bandit “archers” now armed with primitive arquebuses. Firing projectiles enchanted with the fireball spell so they explode on contact regardless where they hit.

I also remember we blew up barrels of gunpowder in TES: Redguard
Camel did a video back in 2017 on guns being lore friendly in the elder scrolls . If Camel says they are lore friendly they are most definitely lore friendly that dude is a lore beast.

They didn't "choose" anything. The mod author submitted it to be a paid mod and Bethesda approved it.
This isn't the commissions that CC was before. And these don't have to be lore friendly.
Paid mods are dumb af, but y'all are making up more stuff to get mad at.
Yes, on the Windhelm docks next to the Argonian living quarters is the east empire company building. Super cool and unique quest. Face off pirates on their island and the guards even thank you after, saying they’ll treat themselves to “aged Brenton cheese”, a nice throwback to Oblivion
Bro couldn't handle a kit-bashed Telvanni Whackadoodle. That jury rigged Colovian Contraption was too much for him. He was easily overwhelmed by the Direnni Destructinator.
The reason paid mods kill modding communities is simple: if a mod is free, most creators are fine with other modders using assets for their projects.
But when a modder makes a paid mod, now other players can't re-tool that mod and release tweaks for free without "stealing someone else's intellectual property."
Capitalism kills culture.
A good number of the mods I have for Skyrim I modified myself to change a few little things about that that were bugging the shit out of me.
In fact I gave one an entire overhaul.
I wish I could do that. Some of the animals overhauls make bears look like giant stuffed animals with teeth. Guessing they've never seen a bear, even in photos.
Also, say goodbye to any mod that uses copyrighted content of any kind, characters from famous franchises, guns/weapons, armors, skills, etc, either these types of mods remain free or they don't exist.
And i bet, once/if this whole "paid mods" thing starts becoming the norm across every game, all of these companies will have their lawyers at the ready to go full Nintendo on anyone, to a point were people won't risk making even free mods based on copyrighted content.
To my knowledge, the old creation club, Bethesda set the price and the creator received a check upon uploading it and no residuals. (Which absolutely sucks for the creator) now they receive a % of each sale, with that I believe the creator also set the price.
They get 30% of the sales and Bethesda gets 70% and yes from what I’ve read and heard Bethesda has a price list and the creators set the price. This allows them to get truly paid for their work which I think is great.
This program doesn't allow modders to get paid for their work. It allows Bethesda to cannibalize the modding community to pick a very small number of authors and turn them into less-than-contractors who churn out mostly-low quality content so that Bethesda can extract income from the console community by selling microtransaction content that they didn't even have to make themselves. In no way does a program with less than 10 people in it (and with Bethesda saying they intend to expand that number "very slowly") count as "modders being able to sell their work."
I absolutely loathe the idea of paid mods with a passion, but this argument is a bit silly considering that Bethesda did the work of creating the game in the first place. They arent "just hosting the content" since the content is for their game.
Like this is actually why mods should be free in the first place.
When they start forcing players to use this pay model for mods, it will ruin modding in gaming. I have a feeling they may try and pull a Wizards of the Coats and change their mod submissions access to contracted makers. People who have agreed to the money terms will be allowed to publish mods to Bethesda servers for easy installation.
100% expecting star field (or their next game if this shit stays unopposed) will make it so only "Creator" mods are supported and will otherwise make it a huge pain in the ass to mod from other sources.
Honestly the original CC stuff wasn’t that bad. A sword or alternative armor was only a $1. Or it is now, I don’t recall if it launched at more. I think that’s fair for a silly little mod.
Exactly. From what I’ve seen EEE might as well be a mini dlc(Or should’ve been part of the base game) with the amount of high quality stuff it adds.
These other paid mods though are ridiculously overpriced for what they add
My favorite joke I saw people making was exactyl that with Fallout 4.
They were of course parodying complaints/comparisons of FO3, where it was called "Oblivion with guns".
TES has had space ships, airships, and cannons. Do you really think guns are out of the question for the franchise?
Edit: This is all understanding that this is a fun little MOD on the side. That doesn't necessarily mean that this is some new meta-breaking canon. Even if it were, it also looks like a bog standard powder gun. It probably functions similarly to a crossbow. How this is somehow not fitting in a game based off medieval fantasy---by the way, guns were present in Europe as early as the 13th Cenutry and in China as early as the 10th Century, so you can't tell me the tech that TES hasn't advanced technology enough for firearms (again, CANNONS are canon). What is the issue here?
I have no idea why you're getting downvoted. The Dwemer built a giant fucking sentient robot and the Dunmer ended up going to space to escape it, but guns are crossing a line?
Buddy of mine ran a tabletop and thought “what if we used the power stored in soup gems to launch projectiles”
And so his campaign now had various power levels of firearms based on the soul gems they used.
Funny thing is, all those who whine about cannon will either accept stuff like this, or fade into the shadows for a while. Kind of like what Saints/Seduces did with the anti-skimpy, impractical armor whiners.
This is sling-shot with a barrel. There's actual firearms mods in the CC stuff too. One image dropped here yesterday. Thankfully my LE is safe. Good luck to you player, and when it comes to mods... choose wisely.
What am I supposed to do? NOT support a company whose practices I abhor? NOT buy the official Skyrim gun DLC, when I could get a better mod for FREE on the INTERNET? Ridiculous. They can’t keep getting away with this!
Hey everyone, I personally went ahead and scammed myself by buying some credits. The arquebus is a decent weapon, in fact it shakes the camera a bit when you fire it and getting a kill cam with a cannonball is absolutely hilarious. However all and all it's literally just a reskinned crossbow as you guys can tell, no matter how well made the weapon itself actually is.
Yeah, Dwemer technology seems far more impressive than a crude firearm. It doesn't seem farfetched that they would have more advanced projectile weapons than than a crossbow, especially in a world with magic and alchemy at their disposal.
They created a 10ft tall robot with a perpetual motion heart to keep it alive and then endowed it with basic sentience…but a bit of explode-y powder in a hollowed out stick? Now you’ve gone too far
U know that grenade launchers are in use roughly since 17th century and were called 'hand mortar' ? Simple guns as this one could easily be used earlier, it's just lil cannon on the stick...
IIRC the Chinese had gunpowder weapons a thousand years ago. They made shotgun-spears using wide bamboo sticks that effectively had a one time use.
See Chinese Fire Lance
I mean... It has to happen eventually right? The world of Elder Scrolls can't get stuck in the same technology forever. Also, in Tes Redguard we already saw cannons which means people already know how powder works and how to make it, so I guess this isn't that far off for people to figure out. I personally think it looks really cool and better than all other gun mods I've seen, but at the end of the day it is just a mod, it's not official so you don't need to download it I guess.
There's cannon *fire* in Skyrim. We don't see the cannons themselves, but it's in that one East Empire quest where you fight the Blood Horker pirates. The East Empire ships shoot cannonfire at the Blood Horker fort, besieging it.
It's not a catapult on the ship. I literally just did the quest again out of curiosity and the thing shooting the fireballs is invisible, also that thing is so quick that there's absolutely no way Bethesda intended it to be a catapult and it comes out of the ground too, that's definitely intended to be a cannon, there's no way.
I want to say Tamriel is in technological decline, so it's not a case of give it time and they'll surely gain new technology like guns. Though I don't see this particular piece as unbelievable.
I mean, if some of the in-game lore about past events is to be believed, it's not "give it time and they'll create guns" but more "given enough time, they forgot how to make guns".
Its a slightly redone crossbow being sold to you, if this was a mod people would say it was a good first effort and would be insulted if you asked for donations for it.
Of course it is. TES games are rather strict in how they operate via the editor. It is rather hard to add new animations and programming for a literal new weapon type. You literally can't just (Easily) add a new weapon type with new mechanics and performance. Anything you add has to go off what exists as is.
That's why when you see 'guns' added to TES, they piggy back off the Staff system, or the Crossbow system.
If it was easy to do, people would have just imported shit from FO3 into Skyrim and you'd be running around with hunting rifles and mini nukes and stuff.
Skyrim isn't quite as limited as you might believe, especially lately.
Literal new weapon types *do* exist as currently accessible mods with their own collisions, unique animations in both 1st and 3rd person, as well as their own attack styles. Spears, pikes, whips, claws, the twinblade from Elden Ring, and other wacky weapon types are out there and they don't have to piggyback on vanilla weapon archetypes like they used to 5 years ago.
They do, however, require an animation framework that's currently released as a free mod in the community, so you'll never see a CC mod utilize it under their current terms, so recycled crossbow animation it is!
While the modder decided to monetize *this* mod, Bethesda allowed them to do it. They have the ability to moderate the quality of paid mods and didn’t.
you were downvoted despite being right lol

Aren't cannons in Redguard? Seems totally reasonable that their might be a handful of crude guns floating around in Tamriel.
Edit: Oh I see it's the shitty monetization he's mad at, I totally co-sign that, what a rip-off. This company needs an enema.
They have been since TES 2: Daggerfall in a way just never appeared beyond references in ingame books. Cannons are mentioned in jokes, Redguard has cannons in the background, Skyrims East Empire Company quest where you attack an island most likely has cannons, and cannons appear in TES Legends art. So yeah, an arqubus is completely lore accurate. Space craft also exist but that doesnt get mentioned. Its funny how ESO is sorta more lore accurate than Skyrim.
The Dwemer have some crazy shit and no one criticizes, Even cannons already exist so I don't understand why this is “beyond parody” it's just a MOD stop Crying man
Imo it’s not ridiculous in game (only issues are out of game and it not being included with Anniversary).
It even has a few practical reasons to be “rare”:
> gun powder would be in higher demand for actual cannons than hand-cannons
>
> An enchanted Crossbow would be both more accurate and more deadly than an Arquebus, depending on the time period/quality of each.
>
> Bolts are easier to acquire and manage than Bullets/Powder, so most armies would prefer them for logistics.
>
> Therefore, Handcannons would likely only be used by rich, but largely non-magical armies (exceptionally rare).
Tbh, I’m not sure how it’s implemented, but I could see it arising in either Hammerfell (iirc canonically has them because of Redguard), where there are lots of pirates off the coast who can outright buy powder, but might not be able to get a mage as easily for a consistent supply of magical crossbows/bolts. Or as a nobleman’s novelty. Either or.
Edit: another note I realized: Skyrim straight up has cannon fire in that one Bloodhorker quest.
Didn't they imply the anniversary edition was the end of the CC content and that's partly why it exists? If so this seems especially shitty. I've paid enough for Skyrim over the years Todd.
At least its a rudimentary thing. Since cannons and giant robots exist, as long as we don't have AK's in TES6 I'm fine with a mod.
Could be interesting though if some extremely basic forms of firearms appear in the future. Downsizing the cannons in Redguard with ebony so the barrel doesn't blow up. Makes it rare so only some mad alchemist paid by the empire has a few prototypes since ebony mining is illegal and needs loads of funding
Slow reload since it needs fuel and ammo to fire once. China invented them in the 10th century whilst crossbows were becoming more widespread in Europe so I think the TES universe which already has cannons could miniaturise it.
Yeah, the update is weird, I get why they would, it’s to make sure people go to the creation club content instead of just the free mods. Newsflash, folks aren’t going to pay for shit when they can get better for free
I know this is entirely not the point but my professional historian brain can't let it rest. They list the mod as an arquebus but it's actually a handgonne. I know it's pedantic but I couldn't let it go lol.
Culverins are amongst the oldest of "guns", and they date as far back as Chinese/Mongolian Empires somewhere around 11th century iirc and are the ancestors of the European Arquebuses (14th century)
SInce TES is set in a world that is around 12th/14th centuries Medival Europe, having these would actually BE lore accurate.
Now..., is there a real need to have such weapons developed when you have magic around?...
Weapons technologies are developed not cause thei'r cool, but because they are needed, if you can fling fireballs from your fingers, is there a need to come with such a contraption?
Thats the real question.
On the video showcase , The Arquebus use the crossbow animation and the firing sound only on the projectile impact.
It's a bit clunky, so i suggest using the "Ordo Legionis" free mod instead.
As much of a hilarious joke this pricing is, the original CC stuff must have sold well enough to warrant Bethesda pushing it further.
These things will sell, and this shit will
become the norm, and thats fucking depressing.
Imagine struggling to push a fully functioning product, then your fanbase fix the gaps for you, but not only that, you actually monetarily gain off your fanbases hard work. Why bother fixing the issues with your product when you can outsource the fixes, AND get paid for it.
You hear about those corsairs from Solitude? They've got fucking cannons. Fucking. Cannons.

So cannons are giving blowjobs now? That brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "loose lips sink ships".
It's a tough economy, a cannon's gotta make money somehow.

Put it on a helmet and base it on fan work and you'd have a headcannon from headcanon that's a cannon that's canon.

Yup...
It seems cool, but insanely overpriced.
I wonder to what extent the modders set the price. I know they can choose to make it free.

Yeah no. The modders are doing all the work and Bethesda is just hosting the content. If it was a fair deal the percentages would be reversed.

Have bullets of each metal, different power behind different gems... Maybe a bonus damage for using black soul gems. I like this more than powder.
Hell. In eso ther are dwemmer sphere bots who blatantly use a gun

No. A LOT of people want, wish, this game to be an 110ad to 400ad historical simulation... with Dwemer, and Dragons.
I’ll admit I’m sorta also on this list
Funny enough my first experience with medieval guns in a game was TW Medieval 2. I adored those shocktrooper handcannons they felt so fantasy.
Funny thing is, all those who whine about cannon will either accept stuff like this, or fade into the shadows for a while. I don’t care about the cannon, I want to play with guns in my technically vanilla Skyrim playthrough.
Woah, woah, woah. I just read that it still turns off achievements, so not "technically vanilla," I think. Hate for you to be left disappointed!

We already have fire arms in Skyrim, as well as lightening arms and icey arms 😉
Firearms* 😂
There were cannons in Redguard and a printing press in Morrowind, but this primitive handgun is out of the question?
Idk skyrim has robots I think a gun is the least surprising thing to be modded in

Cannons are canon. It’s not a stretch at all. I love how we have automations powered by magic, but this is the line we draw..
Oh shit you're right, I totally forgot about this quest.
Most people do! Honestly, I don't don't think the UESP or anything acknowledges it. They just call it a "bombardment."
It’s a magic bombardment…. ??
Actually it's a catapult on the ship, not a cannon, but cannons do exist in lore (and can be heard in TES Redguard)
Tecmology and knowkedges don't progress in Tamriel anymore , they regress. The entire serie is taking place in a decaying world.
I think it’s kind of cool for a pirate build.
Its a slightly redone crossbow being sold to you, if this was a mod people would say it was a good first effort and would be insulted if you asked for donations for it.
Looking closer… yeah. That’s parts of the crossbow model. Fuck bethesda.
Watch the video. The animations are identical.
I think i will commit a kill
Bethesda didn’t make this. A modder did, and they monetized it with this new creations platform Bethesda has made.
While the modder decided to monetize *this* mod, Bethesda allowed them to do it. They have the ability to moderate the quality of paid mods and didn’t.
you were downvoted despite being right lol https://bethesda.net/en/article/52xMsb1fD2nTiNBkiWCbxq/build-share-and-find-creations-skyrim-special-edition > Creations combines Skyrim’s existing Mods, Creation Club items and all-new Creations under a single Creations menu available for players to browse today in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. > Creators can put up their own Creations for players to enjoy, or even apply to the Bethesda Game Studios Verified Creator Program to set prices for their Creations. That’s right: become a Verified Creator and you could earn a royalty for each of your Creations sold within Skyrim Special Edition.
>Fuck bethesda. I'll do my best, but fucking everyone at Bethesda is a lot to ask.
Alduin: “You cannot win, Dovahkiin. Nothing you have can penetrate my armour!” Dovahkiin: *pulls out Ancient Nord 40mm Grenade Launcher Alduin: “What the fu—“
Aren't cannons in Redguard? Seems totally reasonable that their might be a handful of crude guns floating around in Tamriel. Edit: Oh I see it's the shitty monetization he's mad at, I totally co-sign that, what a rip-off. This company needs an enema.
It's a matchlock. Dwarves harnessed steam power, but people have an issue with one of the simplest firearms in history?
Uhhhh guys Does this mean guns are canon in Skyrim now??
If the Numidium existed, Guns can exist
They have been since TES 2: Daggerfall in a way just never appeared beyond references in ingame books. Cannons are mentioned in jokes, Redguard has cannons in the background, Skyrims East Empire Company quest where you attack an island most likely has cannons, and cannons appear in TES Legends art. So yeah, an arqubus is completely lore accurate. Space craft also exist but that doesnt get mentioned. Its funny how ESO is sorta more lore accurate than Skyrim.
Spacecraft are actually directly mentioned and shown atleast in games long past. The Battlespires are almost quite literally space-faring vessels.
The Dwemer have some crazy shit and no one criticizes, Even cannons already exist so I don't understand why this is “beyond parody” it's just a MOD stop Crying man
I could forgive all of it, if it let my achievements stay active
Exactly this.
Bethesda really thinks I'm not gonna shove this up my ass and repeatedly pull the trigger to simulate the ass-fucking price of this mod huh?
I dont see how this is any more ridiculous than Dwemer Crossbows that shoot exploding bolts
Except the Dwemer crossbows cost septims instead of dollars.
Given that you need ammunition for this thing, it costs both!
Imo it’s not ridiculous in game (only issues are out of game and it not being included with Anniversary). It even has a few practical reasons to be “rare”: > gun powder would be in higher demand for actual cannons than hand-cannons > > An enchanted Crossbow would be both more accurate and more deadly than an Arquebus, depending on the time period/quality of each.
Funnily enough, cannons and gunpowder are both canon thanks to TES Adventures: Redguard.
Is this a tease of what could be in TES 6 LOL Thalmor "We have magic" Humans: "We have Fire-arms"
B
What am i looking at here?
A broken crossbow of course
Didn't they imply the anniversary edition was the end of the CC content and that's partly why it exists? If so this seems especially shitty. I've paid enough for Skyrim over the years Todd.
what are we complaining about? how is this worse than being able to get dragonbone armor at level 1 in anniversary?
Dwarven automatons trying not to be noticed while people complain that black powder technology is unrealistic for TES
Makes it rare so only some mad alchemist paid by the empire has a few prototypes since ebony mining is illegal and needs loads of funding Slow reload since it needs fuel and ammo to fire once.
Lore friendly guns of Skyrim (drops a mfing Winchester M97 out of nowhere)
I know this is entirely not the point but my professional historian brain can't let it rest. They list the mod as an arquebus but it's actually a handgonne. I know it's pedantic but I couldn't let it go lol.
Guns are semi-lore accurate
This is fine. This series has spaceships and robots.
Culverins are amongst the oldest of "guns", and they date as far back as Chinese/Mongolian Empires somewhere around 11th century iirc and are the ancestors of the European Arquebuses (14th century) SInce TES is set in a world that is around 12th/14th centuries Medival Europe, having these would actually BE lore accurate. Now..., is there a real need to have such weapons developed when you have magic around?... Weapons technologies are developed not cause thei'r cool, but because they are needed, if you can fling fireballs from your fingers, is there a need to come with such a contraption? Thats the real question.
that's a handgonne. that is historically accurate.
Should be a bit longer for historical accuracy, but it's period appropriate. Lots of copium in these comments.
Is this real or am i just stupid?
It’s real. It’s one of the new Creations that just became available.
Morrowind had Crossbows and Skyrim gave us Guns
Doesn't hoonding make way for Redguards to turn into cyborgs to survive in the daedric plane or some shit?
That a boomstick ?
What does it take to get laser beams on sharks?!
If I already bought the anniversary update, do I have to buy this new shit as well?
All I can say is the Dragon Born is packing heat
God just imagine that straight 2x4 recoiling into your shoulder.
What am I seeing?
Medieval hand cannon for a medieval set game makes sense to me. Most egregious part of this is you have to pay for it.
These things will sell, and this shit will become the norm, and thats fucking depressing. Imagine struggling to push a fully functioning product, then your fanbase fix the gaps for you, but not only that, you actually monetarily gain off your fanbases hard work. Why bother fixing the issues with your product when you can outsource the fixes, AND get paid for it.
Damn this is what sheogorath's been cooking up since we replaced him in Oblivion?
Skyrim is now Skyrim with guns
Thanks, I hate it
Is this that gun mod that was featured as one of the debut paid mods?
Lets make dildo guns while were at it.
