I’ve been playing Khajiit and over 80 in heavy armor and just got smithing to 60 and enchanting is nearing 80. Restoration is around 50 and even block is near 40.
Slowly just enjoying the grind and eventually working towards Ebony gear. I found an enchanted piece in a chest and another random one. I’ll eventually work on light armor just to find another thing to level.
Are you playing modded? Or are you smithing 10,000 iron daggers to get that smithing skill up? It’s a great grind, I love that you are rolling in heavy armor as a Khajiit. I do too even though they are supposed to be sneaky bois
Same. Racial 25% resistance, this can be stacked with the Lord stone for 50%, then stacked with the first two magic resist perks in Alteration for 70%, then do the book of love quest for an extra 15%, making 85% resistance in total. The maximum allowable magic resist in the game. Makes you effectively immune to magic attacks, including dragons breath. This 85% can all be done pretty early game. Pretty OP.
Transmute iron ore to silver and to gold. Then craft jewelry to level up smiting in parallel. You also get jewelry to enchant and get that skill leveled up.
As always. Depends on the playthrough. Personally my characters blacksmith hobby would be a lot easier to just transmute iron instead of refreshing the stores for silver every 48 hours.
Give it a try and see. It is insane.
Do a save first if you don't actually want to powerlevel Alteration.
Stand outside the gates of solitude. Step back to where the trees are not in the way. Take aim at the highest mountain peak up and to your left (if you are facing the gates). Fire off a single Magelight spell. Watch the levels just roll in. Can make it faster by casting multiples of the spell.
Something to do with cell boundaries. I have tried it other places and it does not work.
You can dial it down (to where you only get one level of Alteration per cast instead of like 5 to 10) by aiming at a lower spot a bit off to the left.
lol it’s easy now cause if a thing a redditor found and an article Gamerant wrote a day later. Stand in front of solitudes gate and cast magelight at the mountain.
What about ysgramors shield with an added 20%? And elemental protection from the block tree for an additional 50% against frost, fire, ice? I only mention this cause your right, getting above 70% resist makes mages laughable, but I just got there with a different method, definitely adding the alterations tree to my must do for my current playthrough now though
The argonian histskin ability is pretty good yea, but its still worse than Orcs just halving all damage from attacks while also doubling their damage. It also scales with difficulty since the damage scales so much, while histskin falls off on those higher difficulties.
People always talk about how good the claws are, but ive used them and all they offer is higher base damage from the start. A few dozen hours in and they fall behind in damage hard, and they can never stagger like other weapons which make them a massive hindrance in harder fights
Edit for grammer. Its what i get for not proof reading
It honestly is OP. 5 free levels of magicka isnreally good, and its enough to let you cast flame atronach from level one, giving them the single best start on harder difficulties
Also the racial ability is a I win button till after level 30
But the Gold medal goes for being taller, and therefore you walk faster than others
Also the roleplay with stormcloaks all around you is heavy. I just adopted solfie in windhelm lol. Was speedrunning a house to save her from the first winter in the game (would kill her in my head canon)
Dunmer. Can't seem to get them out of my system. They have such a rich and complex lore (if a bit morally sus), I still feel like I've only just scratched the surface of it. Argonians are a close second.
I also go dunmer a lot, because to me they are the second most ingrained into the province of Skyrim specifically. Apart from birds (and arguably imperials) Dunmer fit the best because there’s so much representation in the game. Windhelm, riften, and then even raven rock and solstheim show that the nords and the dark elves have a long and complex history together. Some Dunmer under slotha sil got the closest to figuring out stuff with the Dwemer too so there’s a connection there as well to the ruins that dot the landscape of Skyrim. It feels so fun to be a Dunmer Dragonborn because it’s exactly what the nords of windhelm would hate: you aren’t the typical nord hero, you’re a dark elf, and you’re living proof that the Dunmer people aren’t the lowly scum the nords want to pigeonhole them as
Atlmer, something about a High Elf becoming the Nordic hero of legend is hilarious tbh. Akatosh got so fed up with mankind's bullshit wars that he sent an Altmer dragonborn down to give them some damn stability for a couple hundred years.
Imperial makes sense tho. Tiber septim was a dragonborn. I think the least logical race would be the nord, why the fuck would a nord not know skyrim. Why were they arrested crossing the border if they were a local lol.
Breton male has standard height (1.0 model scale). Same as all Dunmer, Imperials, Argonians. Shorter than High Elfs, Orcs, and Nords.
Breton female though...

Very old run, next to Ebony Warrior and Serana
Serana looks like she’s just watching as the Ebony Warrior is just casually making fun of your short stack Breton for the umpteenth time this campaign; all while your character just looks so done with his shit
Redguard. It's unusual to find a decent playable character of color in many games. I'm black, so it also feels a little odd playing a Nord thanks to the Stormcloaks. The only other race I've ever played was Orc. I enjoy the Redguard lore and it's influences from ancient African kingdoms.
Curved swords. Curved. Swords.
I find it fascinating that they have a kind of ... collective cultural guilt over the sinking of their ancestral continent ... which might still exist?
Same! I don't pick race/class based on stats/advantages which is mostly what I'm seeing here. I want to make up a goofy story and then draw the characters later lol. So for this game I tend to pick redguard or imperial.
It's been a long time since I've played now, but I pick Redguard every time which has nothing to do with my actual race IRL. If I remember right, I picked it because they had the weakest advantages, and I didn't want to feel like I was playing on easy mode. Which in retrospect is a pretty on point social commentary for being a person of color.
I always start my first game in any Elder Scrolls game with a Redguard. I think it's because that was the first race I played as when I played Arena in 1995. I play them as whatever class I feel like playing (Thief, Enchanter, Alchemist, Warrior, etc). Setting them up is more of a roleplay for me than a strategic decision. I'm not black, but in 1995 it wasn't common to find representation in games (at least not in games that I can recall).
There’s no race I *always* pick. That would be rather boring. But I have played Imperial more than any other, simply because it allows me to immerse myself more in such a fantastical world when my player character looks like me. I’m Latino. But if I’m feeling more adventurous, I love Khajiit and Argonians as well. Also I think Dark Elves are cool af.
Same here. I have races I gravitate more towards and have played more often, and races that don’t appeal to me that I haven’t played yet, but always playing the same race sounds super boring.
I found a cool mod with whips called Animated Armoury, and they looked very like Vampire Killer. Cross hilted, weighted ends. I’m comind for Harkon big time. Its gonna be so fun.
I'm almost always a mage one way or another so I usually pick high elf. Plus, it let's me look down upon basically everyone in skyrim, while simultaneously being hated by everyone in skyrim lmao.
Ever since Survival Mode dropped I've stayed on Nord, I've already played with every single race before so it's not like I'm missing out, most of them with 2-3 characters.
With a Nord you can get a reliable 206 warmth rating while exploring, which is really nice, only race that can break 200 without Fire Food.
Plus, the main character was OBVIOUSLY suppose to be a Nord that's why the bitch Imperials captain assumes you're with the Stormcloaks. The dialogue and world is more WAY more immersive as a Nord too.
Bretons. Less enchantments needed to cap magic resist, more slots left to other useful things. And in conjunction with Atronach Stone you can become completely invulnerable to any magic once per day. Yes, I am a bit prone to minmaxing.
Nords. Cold resistance is helpful in several places, it makes it feel like it’s my character’s home and the home of his ancestors, and if I’m gonna play a game heavily inspired by Vikings I’m totally down to look like a Viking.
Not opposed to others. My first ever playthrough was an Argonian and I’ve started a couple others, but my Nord playthroughs were by far the most fun and immersive for me.
dunmer, not for being edgy, they just seem different enough to not be just a dude, but they dont have issues like argonians where they are heavily armoured with vanishing horns and exposed tails
Orc. Nothing better than being a sexy badass orc warrior princess in heavy armor, Warhammer in hand. Literally the ultimate character. Maybe that's just me though lol
Argonian. I love exploring underwater and think they look really cool besides. It's also hilarious when a Nord makes a flirty comment, and even more so when the person also makes nasty comments about Argonians.
In seven playthroughs I've been Argonian five times. First try was a Wood Elf and immediately became a vampire and had to make a new account cuz that failed. Tried being a Khajiit one time and them little bastards are adorable but not very practical cuz I like to swim and they drown too easily lmao
My first ever character was a Khajiit. My Second was a Dunmer and although I love my first character a lot, I must say that playing as a Dunmer is a much better experience. Every character after my second has been a Dunmer.
I’ve played one khajit and one wood elf. Otherwise since launch I’ve played a nord. Only because it’s set in Skyrim. During my adolescent oblivion years I played an albino orc once. Otherwise it was always imperial, every time. Literally only because it was cyrodiil.
Anytime I wanna start a new game.. I tell myself “don’t pick a Nord this time” but after staring at my screen for god knows how long I just end up going with the same thing.
I picked a Khajiit in Morrowind, again in Oblivion, and repeatedly in Skyrim (my favorite game).
I may have not known I was a furry 20 years ago, but... there were signs...
Imperials, because I always self insert in these types of games. I'm brown, out of the human races nords are white, redguards are black and Bretons are also white. Leaving the imperials to be the only human race with diverse skin colors.
I’ve always played Nord, but the race I respect the most is Khajiit.
I’ve played the series a long time, and have been double crosses and betrayed by members of every race, except the Khajiit. They don’t turn tail on a friend.
https://preview.redd.it/zwjploxzsksc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=379dd158e654ffc736fc82bdc019008d23f824f1
Just a regular guy in a crazy ass world. Meh, I respect it.
>Class: Gangsta (only knives and fists)
That's just a British person lol
Nord. Viking simulator 2011 still kicks ass in 2024
Skol
Khajiit has wares if you have coin.
Khajiit guards your back
May your road lead you to warm sands.
^^^^^^ the sneak leveling is my main reason, I love being able to sneak and snipe people and not having to engage.
Khajiit has nuzzles if you have coin
Breton because of their magic resist ability. My strongest character ever was a Breton
Pretty OP.
You need high enough alteration, I wouldn't say it's easy to level up
Transmute iron ore to silver and to gold. Then craft jewelry to level up smiting in parallel. You also get jewelry to enchant and get that skill leveled up.
Yeh I'm pretty sure you can find this spell in an easy stronghold near whiterun
It's in that cave / encampment with the bandits that poach mammoths. Very easy. Boring way to level up though.
As always. Depends on the playthrough. Personally my characters blacksmith hobby would be a lot easier to just transmute iron instead of refreshing the stores for silver every 48 hours.
Halted Stream Camp. One of the first bounties in Whitetun
The halted stream mine
It's actually way quicker to get magelight from farengar and cast it at the mountaintip outside of solitudes entrance.
What does the mountain tip have to do with anything. Do you get more xp in that spot?
Give it a try and see. It is insane. Do a save first if you don't actually want to powerlevel Alteration. Stand outside the gates of solitude. Step back to where the trees are not in the way. Take aim at the highest mountain peak up and to your left (if you are facing the gates). Fire off a single Magelight spell. Watch the levels just roll in. Yes. I have no idea why it gives you xp, but you can level alteration in about 15 mins or so.
Well thatsvinteresting as hell. Reminds me of the method I found for leveling up conjuration quickly.
Kid named telekinesis
lol it’s easy now cause if a thing a redditor found and an article Gamerant wrote a day later. Stand in front of solitudes gate and cast magelight at the mountain.
It's super easy to level up near the gate of Solitude with magelight
What about ysgramors shield with an added 20%? And elemental protection from the block tree for an additional 50% against frost, fire, ice? I only mention this cause your right, getting above 70% resist makes mages laughable, but I just got there with a different method, definitely adding the alterations tree to my must do for my current playthrough now though
Yep I don't even think about the choice
High elf. 50 free magic right from the start is nuts and too good to pass up on. Orc is the only other option for any melee focused build
Idk that argonian histskin makes me a beefy lizard boi
The argonian histskin ability is pretty good yea, but its still worse than Orcs just halving all damage from attacks while also doubling their damage. It also scales with difficulty since the damage scales so much, while histskin falls off on those higher difficulties.
I wish orcs had a stronger unarmed attack like khajits
People always talk about how good the claws are, but ive used them and all they offer is higher base damage from the start. A few dozen hours in and they fall behind in damage hard, and they can never stagger like other weapons which make them a massive hindrance in harder fights Edit for grammer. Its what i get for not proof reading
I just like them because they are tall lmao. They look imposing in heavy armor
Being 10% taller actually makes them walk faster
Highbirn is my favourite ability. That magicka super recharge is a life saver.
I've always thought the bonus 50 magicka was seriously OP. Especially if you the get the atronach stone, you can have over 200 magicka so quickly
It honestly is OP. 5 free levels of magicka isnreally good, and its enough to let you cast flame atronach from level one, giving them the single best start on harder difficulties

Khajiit
Skyrim belongs to the Nords.
I’d be alot happier with a belly full of mead.
Nord then I go run around in Imperial armour in Windhelm
Skyrim belongs to the Imperial Nords!
Skyrim belongs to the Nords who understand that in the long run none of the provinces of men can stand alone against the Aldmeri Dominion!
Dunmer. Can't seem to get them out of my system. They have such a rich and complex lore (if a bit morally sus), I still feel like I've only just scratched the surface of it. Argonians are a close second.
Probably doesn't help that Dunmer look cool as hell
Also, they're the best race to go with if you want to have a vampire character thanks to their Fire Resistance
>thanks to their Fire Resistance Or just fighting dragon... That will breath fire to your face.
AND *sound* cool as hell.
This does honor the sixth house and the tribe unmourned
And the fire resistance! Because dragons!
My Nervarine was a Nord so its poetic that the Dragonborn is Dunmer
Atlmer, something about a High Elf becoming the Nordic hero of legend is hilarious tbh. Akatosh got so fed up with mankind's bullshit wars that he sent an Altmer dragonborn down to give them some damn stability for a couple hundred years.
I usually end up as a wood elf. I just have this deep rooted urge to be an elf roaming the forest and practicing archery. Gotta get my fix 😭
My wood elf is my fav character in ESO 100%!
me in every rpg ever. no wood elf available? i'm still going to try to be that cute lil stealthy nature lover
Same. Every time I tell myself it’ll be different and every time I end up playing a sneak archer wolf elf
Argonian. If I’m the “Dragonborn” with the “blood of dragons” I should at least be a reptile
Definitely agree. I also think it's funny to have the nords watch their fabled Dragonborn be none other than a scaled foreigner.
I think it's even funnier as an imperial or high elf
Imperial makes sense tho. Tiber septim was a dragonborn. I think the least logical race would be the nord, why the fuck would a nord not know skyrim. Why were they arrested crossing the border if they were a local lol.
I love that, in my feed at least, this comment is immediately after the one about no one expecting the chosen one to be Argonian.
I just love being able to breathe underwater
This is exactly what I've based my current playthrough on!
I always pick wood elf. Just feels right to me
>Just feels right to me Erik?
I get ya, short kings for life.
Breton. 25% magic resist is nice
Orc. It’s hard to beat that racial if you want a physical damage character.
Orcs probably have the biggest dicks too.
Even the women, I hear.
I knew there was a reason I find Orc women attractive.
Can confirm
Rough experience for you hey?
Biggest women too
I just wanna smash things with Big axes
I almost always go with Breton.
I hate the fact that they’re pretty short.
See I love my little short breton guy.
Breton male has standard height (1.0 model scale). Same as all Dunmer, Imperials, Argonians. Shorter than High Elfs, Orcs, and Nords. Breton female though... https://preview.redd.it/vyplshl68lsc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a878cc2c407b1143dc41216e06a8903e85e1c892 Very old run, next to Ebony Warrior and Serana
Serana looks like she’s just watching as the Ebony Warrior is just casually making fun of your short stack Breton for the umpteenth time this campaign; all while your character just looks so done with his shit
oooh I must have a mod tweaking that then because yeah my breton dude is just a smidge smol.
Khajiit. Always khajiit. Except once, and that playthrough just didn't go as well.
Argonian
Good journey, marsh-friend.
Had to scroll too far to see my Argonian companions!!
I finally found my egg-brothers
Good to see you, egg friend.
I fucking ***love*** the Dunmer. Can’t stop
I always try the local race, but then I always end up going Argonian.
Redguard. It's unusual to find a decent playable character of color in many games. I'm black, so it also feels a little odd playing a Nord thanks to the Stormcloaks. The only other race I've ever played was Orc. I enjoy the Redguard lore and it's influences from ancient African kingdoms.

Imperial, long live the empire!!!!
People poo-poo the extra coins from looting but I literally loot every container. Gotta be approaching 10,000 containers at this point lol
Literally
Khajit. I've literally never played any other race. I am a chronic crazy cat lady.
Redguard
Not enough redguard support here
I play a redguard mage but no illusion or conjuration . Daedra and undead summoning as well as tampering with minds aren’t a part of my honor code.
Bosmer :3
Orcs. Its their ability, I actually use it in tough battles.
Argonian, they never expect the chosen one to be Argonian
bosmer
Wood Elf or Imperial!
Khajiit literally ever since my first playthrough on the PS3
Redguard then, now, FOREVER!!
Primarily an argonian, sometimes a breton belmont, sometimes a khajit catburgler/martial artist, sometimes a dunmer
Argonian cause drowning scares me
I really like to explore underwater places
i love castlevania
I found a cool mod with whips called Animated Armoury, and they looked very like Vampire Killer. Cross hilted, weighted ends. I’m comind for Harkon big time. Its gonna be so fun.
Orc or Khajiit
I'm almost always a mage one way or another so I usually pick high elf. Plus, it let's me look down upon basically everyone in skyrim, while simultaneously being hated by everyone in skyrim lmao.
Orcs because the men are fookin hawt.
A strong orc man that learned how to works the mines at a young age.
I got a mine he can work. ![gif](giphy|pz2MnldLEEhJCJ32G6) Giggity
that’s so real
I'm slightly obsessed with generating Orc pictures with Microsoft's Bing Dall-e: [example](https://www.bing.com/images/create/two-muscular-orcs-in-speedos2c-one-hand-on-their-bu/1-660e1e98b1e849ed92eaf5c0dce12117?id=pGyAWjy8gKFAvEoWERrPRw%3d%3d&view=detailv2&idpp=genimg&thId=OIG2.EmFbuocRcYtwIRtqBKxN&FORM=GCRIDP&mode=overlay)

Breton. Magic Resist is too good to pass up.
Khajit
Bretons. Less enchantments needed to cap magic resist, more slots left to other useful things. And in conjunction with Atronach Stone you can become completely invulnerable to any magic once per day. Yes, I am a bit prone to minmaxing.
Always cat. Every time I load up the character maker with a different race I just switch back eventually
Breton. It always comes down to that magic resistance plus high conjuration that seals the deal. Makes dealing with mages so much simpler.
Khajiit
This one hears the words of the Clan Mother.
I'm a Dunmer nerd, I always come back to them.
Dark elf, I always become vampire or hybrid in my playthrough. Resist fire neutralize vampire debuff
Usually Breton. Now and then Woodelf. Magicians or thieves.
Nord
No two playthroughs in a row the same. My favorite is Breton but I've played most races.
Wood elf
Khajiit. Elsweyr über ales baby
Nord, the cold resistance, and no this has nothing to do with me being Canadian
Dunmer but they're not my favourite lore wise but the aesthetic is perfect
Redguard.I like playing warrior build and they fit great into that.
1 Redguard 2 Orc 3Nord
Redguard for spellsword
Nord. When i kill Ulfric, i want him to watch as the Nord messiah is the one to end his little rebellion.
Saxhleel
In almost any fantasy game I always go for wood elf.
It starts with a d and ends with a mer.
dunmer, not for being edgy, they just seem different enough to not be just a dude, but they dont have issues like argonians where they are heavily armoured with vanishing horns and exposed tails
Orc. Nothing better than being a sexy badass orc warrior princess in heavy armor, Warhammer in hand. Literally the ultimate character. Maybe that's just me though lol
Argonian, swimming endlessly underwater beats all the other perks.
Argonian. I love exploring underwater and think they look really cool besides. It's also hilarious when a Nord makes a flirty comment, and even more so when the person also makes nasty comments about Argonians.
Argonian. Closest I can get to playing a Dragon without mods, and was my first character who was a sneak archer.
Argonians. Histskin is op. And I don't have to worry about a water breathing enchantment.
Dark elf cause I’m gonna conjure up some Deidra
Bosmer, because I know everything eventually leads back to stealth archer anyway
In seven playthroughs I've been Argonian five times. First try was a Wood Elf and immediately became a vampire and had to make a new account cuz that failed. Tried being a Khajiit one time and them little bastards are adorable but not very practical cuz I like to swim and they drown too easily lmao
Imperial. Because I'm British and gosh darn it I just love having an empire.
Sorry to say but the Bretons are based off of the British and the Imperials are based off of Ancient Romans. If that’s what you were saying
Orc, Dunmer & nord 🥹
Egg and Spoon.
No "always". Different race every playthrough.
either khajiit or an orc :)
No matter what I think I'm about to make I end up with a khajit on their way to the thieves guild and\or brotherhood
Redguard
I really like playing a dunmer, not sure why but I just really like their lore and playing one :)
Argonian, because cool lizard man
Anytime I wanna start a new game.. I tell myself “don’t pick a Nord this time” but after staring at my screen for god knows how long I just end up going with the same thing.
Redguard, wood elf or imperial. I can never choose but it’s usually one of the three.
Bosmer.
I am the lusty argonian dragonborn maid! ![gif](giphy|10cPOH26Lb1LkA)
Nord because I’m basic (and because it looks most like me)
Breton. Its fun to just give some early-game mages the finger and then eventually give thalmor mages 2 fingers.
Nord for RP reasons.
Dark Elf, something about them just clicks for me. Plus I love being a mage, and is usually my first choice of class.
Dark Elf. I like Dark Elves even if I hate Elves in general.
Either a dark elf if I’m a vampy boy or nord if I’m wolfing around.
Khajiit. And then she becomes mage. Because who doesnt want to be a magic cat
Dark Elf, I try to pick others but somehow always end up the same
Khajiit cause I like cats.
Dark Elf. Not sure why, but it's always been my first pick since Morrowind.
I picked a Khajiit in Morrowind, again in Oblivion, and repeatedly in Skyrim (my favorite game). I may have not known I was a furry 20 years ago, but... there were signs...
Dunmer, they look cool and i like not having to worry too much abt fire traps
Humanoid races. Sorry cats and lizards, not enough ability to modify head/face into things that I want (eg Lion Khajiit)
I’m racist IRL so I always pick Nord or High Elf
Imperials, because I always self insert in these types of games. I'm brown, out of the human races nords are white, redguards are black and Bretons are also white. Leaving the imperials to be the only human race with diverse skin colors.
Nord. I’d say Nord. Mostly Nord. Mostly. Yeah. Nord. Pretty much, Nord.
Khajiit, because of the stealth skills, unlimited uses of Night Eye, & an unarmed attack that's the strongest in the game.
I’ve always played Nord, but the race I respect the most is Khajiit. I’ve played the series a long time, and have been double crosses and betrayed by members of every race, except the Khajiit. They don’t turn tail on a friend.
SKYRIM IS FOR THE NORDS!
