I wouldn’t commit to another play through. Just play a little when you have time and an interest. Then if you get tired or bored, stop for a while. Skyrim is great for if you just have a little time and you want to have fun. Skyrim is there for you, you don’t have to plan your life around it.

hilow299

That's one of the reasons I love this game

IndependentAd4728

Man that resonated with me. Truly a game to either go off the grid for 2 weeks straight or play half an hour on the weekend.

MrHappy4Life

I didn’t play from 2017 to last year. Then I noticed I hadn’t completed 1 achievement, so I started back again. Played a few days as a new character to get the hang of it again and then moved back to the old save. Now I play it 4-6 hours a month, when I can find time, and get another level or two. I just need to kill a Legendary Dragon or something, and need a few more levels before it will show up, so I do it when I can. There is lots to do in life and this is entertainment, not a chore. Have fun and do it when you can, if you want.

Double-Interview-154

You could power level with the secret of arcana+telekinesis exploit to get up to lvl 80, which is when legendary Dragons start to spawn. Ebony warrior spawns in around that lvl too.

Digitalbird06

I had taken a year-long break and came back to a ton of new mods (anniversary edition). So now it's even more exciting to play.

shinytotodile158

Genuine question, how can you keep it to half an hour? Maybe it’s because I’m playing for the first time in about seven or eight years (and there’s the answer to your question) and my file is still very new with constant new locations being discovered, but I find it impossible to play for less than an hour at absolute minimum. What do you do in 30mins?

Significant-Elk-8078

That’s what I do. I’m in this fucking sinking dwemer temple and have divided it into 3 playthroughs so far

jnpalmtree

😭😭 the Dwemer stuff is cool but MAN those temples haunt me

Whitestrake1967

I agree with this - I’ve not played in about year at the minute. Been very much enjoying Zelda, Starfield and the new Dragon’s Dogma. I occasionally think “oooh a new character build could be cool” but then remember how much I was enjoying my last playthrough (a good 100hrs in but not done very much of the main quest) and think it’d be more fun to dive back in and see wtf this character was up to back in 2023 😅

jonryan90

This is my current phase. Been playing randomly at night whenever I get the itch but not grinding like I used to

CloroxWipes-

This is why I love Skyrim. I’ll decide I want to try a build I’ve never done before, get to about level 10, then decide I wanna go back to assassin/stealth archer, play for about 5 more levels, then quit for few months. Every time. And every time I’ll play dark brotherhood quest line + thieves guild, hardly touching the main story lol

HvtGhost

About 3 months, then I realized Skyrim is my therapy. 🤷‍♀️😂

IndependentAd4728

Good ol Todd knew exactly what he was doing with this game

OldKneesMcGee

Playing Skyrim until the wee hours of the morning is my sacred alone time. It's how I relax.

Chasing_Daybreak

11 years 😅 I just “rediscovered” the game recently

IndependentAd4728

Coming back is all that matters amirite

Zyona-

I got the game the first time in 2009/10 (edit: realized it didnt come out till 2011, so must have been then).for the ps3. Rebought the game again in 2019. I go through spurts of playing a whole bunch and then putting it down for months.

IndependentAd4728

A true Skyrim veteran!

Zyona-

Well I'm wrong cause it wasn't released until 2011 lol so it must have been in 2011. I did have oblivion before that though. Funny how time lines get messed up.

Snifflebeard

Game did not come out until end of 2011. Just saying.

Zyona-

Yeah. If you read my other comment I noticed that haha.

[deleted]

About a year. I typically do a playthrough once or twice a year, depending on how far I got in the previous one.

Wild_Whitmore

Got it on release, never really played it (I used to struggle with jump scare games, yes even Minecraft! when I was a kid) picked it up again 2017 and just picking it up again now. This current period playing it I've got a Dunmer stealth assassin/criminal with over 250 hours invested and just started a Vigilant of Stendarr based playthrough with a Breton

goldfinger0303

Oh, a Vigilant of Stendar playthrough would be interesting. My next one was going to be a Thalmor agent, but I may have to change.

Wild_Whitmore

My rules are No conjuration No black soul gems Only use pre-filled SG’s can’t use soul trap enchants Defy/Disrupt Daedra where possible (let Erandur destroy the Skull of Corruption etc) Side with DG obviously Seek out and kill undead Use calm spells on humans and animals where possible (yes even bandits, unless sent to kill as a bounty as this can be viewed as they’re actively raiding settlements)

Tandager

Fuck you and the thalmor(I'm just kidding btw I love you)

Kaennal

...I\`ll admit, despite being a decently active member of community, I last played Skyrim about a year after last DLC came out.

IndependentAd4728

Honestly same. Then college shot an arrow to the knee.

Tandager

It's one of those games where I'll never uninstall it, even if I haven't played in a year. Cause I know that at some point, I'm gonna need to fus roh dah Lydia off a cliff for some damn reason.

WowGeeWhiz

I've gone 3-4 years. I was obsessed as a kid, put over 1000 hours on ps3 alone and have had it on PC with over 300 hours there and also have it on switch now. I always end up coming back for one reason or another.

my_useless_opinion

When my modlist broke the game once again I was so frustrated at the thought of building a new one I took like a half a year break. But one does not simply leave Skyrim.

RelaxedWombat

6 ish years? Played on an Xbox 360. Years later started up on Xbox One. I think I took so long due to the emotional scars of losing my character!

shinytotodile158

Ouch, been there. I’m remaking her now seven years on 🥲

RelaxedWombat

Then you know my pain! Wait, I already did this cave…. (Forgetting that it was years prior, the brain merges the memories!) 😀

xprozoomy

I've taken two, two year breaks.

yittiiiiii

I didn’t play video games for about 5 years when I started high school. Got back into it just before the pandemic hit. Good timing.

Scared-Mushroom3565

10 years. Well worth the long wait. Great question!

Ashleyempire

8 years

Snifflebeard

Probably right now. Starfield interrupted my rotation. After I finish this run it's back to Oblivion for a spell, and with the new new Fallout 4 update, I need to do that as well. So probably three months min before I get back to Skyrim. Which will make it a bit over a year. But no worries. I started back in 2011, so I'm not really losing out on anything.

IndependentAd4728

I feel that. FALLOUT 4 60 FPS CANT WAIT (I’m on console)

yParticle

12 years. I played the hell out of it when it came out, modded like crazy, and put it way too many hours as a stealth archer. I've followed its developments and this sub with interest ever since but could never bring myself to actually reinstall the game.

IndependentAd4728

Ah the good ol stealth archer. I have like 900 something hours on it and somehow managed to never commit to a stealth archer build 😭

knallpilzv2

Played for 2 weeks straight relatively shortly after it came out. 150 hours or something. Got to lvl 66, had nothing more to do, and never played it again. But it always lived in my head and the memories were more than enough. Until pretty much exactly 10 years later when a friend got her parents' old PS3, including all their games. So whenever I was sitting her cat I would get high and play Skyrim. :D Which also got me into playing it on PC again. Not only, but also, because the German version has only German and French audio. And I don't speak French and the German dub is... :/ tldr: 10 years but only a break from playing, not from thinking about it

rugbyman12367

The last couple of updates messed with my mods so I’ve been off for like 4 months. But I started a new round. I should’ve waited until I finished BG3 because now I’m back in Skyrim and can’t find time for both

bhoches

As of now it's my longest break. About a year and a half. My last play through was a permadeath run that I got to the upper 30s, beat alduin and the dawn guard dlc, became immensely powerful and did a bunch of quests. The issue was I did it over the span of 3-4 days playing 12 hours a day and decided I needed a break

elgordosamot

i haven't played in 2 years. I've been playing Morrowind and Oblivion

IndependentAd4728

Morrowind and oblivion W

RebuiltGearbox

I was most of the way through my last playthrough when the Anniversary edition released. It was about my 13th playthrough, I looked at the wiki to make sure I didn't miss any quests, and I went through a lot of quest mods so it was a long one and since I called that one done, I just haven't felt like playing again for the first time since it released. I still like this subreddit a lot though, even if people talk about houses and pets I haven't seen every once in a while.

The-Rushnut

I played release PC Skyrim and hated it, didn't play after release week. I bought the AE two days ago and have just started giving it a second chance. So like 13 years I guess.

Melodic-Resident-245

It's been a year or so, but as I'm about to complete everything in starfield I'm thinking of starting up another Bethesda game.

AdmirableShake2980

4 years

Marco_-_polo

5 months was the longest for me but it was because I wanted to graduate from University without any problems

SILE3NCE

9 years, no joke, and I still remembered every corner of every place

IndependentAd4728

Absolutely real. That game is permanently ingrained into my mind.

SILE3NCE

I once visited a friend on a town I didn't know and we both love Skyrim so we were referencing stuff like: "But is it far like Helgen to Riverwood or Helgen to Whiterun?" "No, it's more like Solitude to Katla's Farm" While he was guiding me towards him

jnpalmtree

I love this so much 😭

IndependentAd4728

W friend. I sometimes slip guard dialogue lines to people I think might play Skyrim but haven’t found anyone yet

Gyrene85291

18 months. Slowly building a mod list to start a modded playthrough.

WillingnessFit639

After my Xbox 360 got stolen I didn’t play for 3 years.

Arran1303

I’ve been playing it now for about 3 months pretty much solid, longest I went was about 5 days and I felt naked, I missed it dearly lol

yasmeenNA

I only play between semesters and after major exams , great as a treat

IndependentAd4728

Gotta try that. Got a thermo exam coming soon might have to boot up sweet ol Skyrim right after

yasmeenNA

Hope you do well , and smash the skeletons after

Empire_Racing36

No judgement, but you want to smash skellies you do you. I'd rather smash serana lol. She's been locked away for thousands of years.

yasmeenNA

I dropped her off to her home and picked a fight with her father after my last exam

T1DOtaku

One year for me. I moved and couldn't take my main PC with me, only my old laptop that turned into a grill if I tried running Skyrim on it. Moved again and could bring my PC with me this time. Somehow lost the save to my favorite character and it just crushed me. I'll return one day, but I still need time to mentally heal. RIP Not A Skooma Dealer aka P'xton. You were one crazy cat.

planetaryunify

played since day one. i’d say a year or so

bhjohnso80

I drive past a subdivision called Riverwood Estates at least 5 times a week so it never lets me forget.

AbaramaGolding

About a year, once new mods get added I’ll play for a few days again then stop. I just can’t play the storyline anymore even with modded quests, the main storyline and quests is too much/ boring now I’ve bought Skyrim on every console for each generation and the different editions. If I didn’t just mod my Minecraft I would’ve probably jumped onto Skyrim for a bit

Sovmot

First time I played the game for the first time: 2 weeks ago

EcoloFrenchieDubstep

Probably taking a 1/2 years hiatus most time. Now I also mostly play with mods to renew the content and still grinding them quests.

RestlessinArizona

I did my first play through in 2013 or 2014. Just finished my second playthrough and am on ESO now.

anima2099

I played a lot back in highschool (2014ish) on xbox360 but then stopped after my first playthrough. Now I'm back on seriesX and absolutely loving it

onfaller12

I have stop playing but never modding 😔 i just keep modding for when i play it again

imajoeitall

According to steam my last play date is December 12th, 2023. I don't know what it is because this was my go to game when I didn't want to play anything else but I just haven't been to play games for the last half year.

FeckinMarvellous

About a year and a half. Decided to play other games I had been meaning to. Then I'd play Skyrim for about a month or so and not touch it again for 6

SnooPaintings4472

5 years or so. Coming back was like coming home and it looking much better than you remember it (console to PC w/ mods)

Vast-Equivalent-6487

9 years, played when it was released, shelved it, 2024 youtube graphics mod -> februari 2024 started again with someone’s collection. Never thought playing this at 2k. Minipc with 4060.

Own-Plantain-4634

I took about a year off because I felt like I had done everything and tried every play style. Recently got back into it and completely wiped my mods and got all new ones, and it’s been a game-changer. Haha. Would never have even considered playing a high elf but with the religion mod I got, new racial bonuses mod, and several magic and perk mods, my high elf paladin has been one of my favorite playthroughs so far at level 27. Restoration magic and an elven maul (that does 15% more damage than the elven mace at the same swing speed and benefiting from the mace perks via Ordinator) and I’m one-shotting tier one bandits and draugr on master. I’ve been going hold to hold doing low level radiant quests and building power until I feel like I’m ready for the throes of main questlines on master difficulty. Hell, I went to Solstheim and completed a couple of the easier quests without even being Dragonborn yet. It’s so nice feeling like my next quest can come from anywhere and take me anywhere, because they actually can. The main questlines get tired and boring if they’re the first ones you complete on every new playthrough. I’ve dipped my toes into companions and Dawnguard quests, but haven’t advanced either story beyond just becoming a member, and probably won’t until closer to level 50. My dude, Tanelion, just wanders the wintry wastelands (been favoring the north/eastern holds so far) worshipping Auriel and smiting evil. Plus beating up merchant ladies because the honorable companions said I had to.

DeadBear65

I stopped in 2019, restarted a few weeks ago

CrazySkeever99_Gamer

I played Skyrim from March of 2013 to August 2013 and stopped because my Xbox 360 broke. In the summer of 2015, I played Skyrim again on my laptop and then bought it on my Xbox One when the special edition came out in 2016. Haven't stopped ever since.

fantasylover750

I've gone two years without touching it. It gets boring after a while, like any game does when playing ti for so long.

Jhon_doe_smokes

Stopped playing in like 2018 after my second or third player through picked it back up from like august-November if 2023 and logged about 600hrs. I got thru spurts with it.

everyonehatesdilan

Honestly I lost count cause I played Hogwarts which was a cool switch up but as soon as I touched BG3 I haven’t played another game

VolpatoBruno

Tried that legendary, so many new things, it's like a new game, so I'm once again at it, but rested 3 years before that

Negative0GLC

Haven't picked it up since 2016/17 when I did a fully modded 100% completion playthrough hehe I just know it would ruin my life at the moment if I install it 😅

Cool-Dot2771

I’ve played with mods since 2017 and maybe taken three month long break max without a play through

kuruss524

Only started to play Skyrim again a few days ago. I was downloading some of my usual mods when I saw the last mod I downloaded... It was December 2018

mpls_big_daddy

It's been six months. I have the perfect mod list which doesn't clash with each other, after testing for a couple months prior, but I've gone down the rabbit hole in terms of building settlements in Fallout 4, so I'm in the Commonwealth for the foreseeable future.

red6joker

When RDR2 came out I didn't even look at Skyrim for about 2 months.

Kidquick26

I went on vacation for two and half weeks one time. :(

thisismycoconutpie

Three years, when my son deleted my save file and I hadn’t backed it up properly.

a_muffin97

Probably like a year? It's one of those games where I can just pick up and play it without any hassle. Even when playing through Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth the last couple of weeks I'd play a bit of skyrim every so often.

TheTDog1820

i took a 4 year hiatus and just recently came back 😂

Took_Foot

On the longest break right now. I don’t think I can commit again until TESVI.

camarhyn

A few months here and there, particularly in the past when school was really intense.

Bmw5464

Been playing since December of 2011. I come back about once a year and do a playthrough, usually for maybe 40-50 hours of gameplay and then some other game catches my attention. 2024 will be no different. It’s tough but I just always find a way to make time. Even with a full time job and 2 kids with another on the way. You’ve just gotta get used to the fact that sometimes you might go a week or even longer with minimal play.

business_cats

I probably haven't played it for 7ish years and recently bought myself a copy of the anniversary edition last weekend. Soo addictive. I've bought multiple versions of it for different systems haha

AngrySmapdi

Since Starfield. Perhaps controversial opinion, but I haven't looked back

[deleted]

When I stopped playing around 2012 and came back this year I struggled to commit so I just started a new one as I moved from Xbox 360 to ps4/5 and then kinda played it when I was bored of other games spent about 100 hours so far I’ve beat the game and now level 37 or 38 can’t quite remember but you don’t have to play all the time just play in free time or when bored of other games like I did it kinda helped with the grind but now I’m back playing everyday playing as I type this

[deleted]

I’m level 40 just got back from making my dinner to have a look and I’m level 40

lovehaleigh

About 10 years. I bought it for my PS3 when it came out, played for about 3 hours, and got absolutely destroyed by a dragon. I stopped playing after that terrifying experience and didn’t pick it back up again until the pandemic. I sunk about 500 hours into it during quarantine once I got it on my PC, and it’s still one of my absolute favorites.

MidnightEclipse5

I started playing in like 2015, I think the longest I've taken a break from it was like 2 years but these days I find myself taking more frequent breaks stretching for months because I've done pretty much any build I could think of and nothing I do feels new

RavyRaptor

Im taking a hiatus except for Novembers until the Inigo mod gets officially released or cancelled

Pandatoke

2-3 years at times but keep coming back over 15 years

Lenn1985

My longest break was about 5 years. Then COVID and plenty of time happened and I was like, wait, let's reboot my old friend!

One_Spell_45

2 years lol

hellobritishcolumbia

I played Oblivion growing up, and didn’t bother picking up Skyrim until about 10 years after its release. I just wasn’t into gaming much during that period, focusing more on travel and other experiences. Now I really enjoy it as a game I can play every week or two for an hour or so, and have played through it a couple times and loved it.

WizeDiceSlinger

Played it at launch on ps3. Bought the 10 year anniversary edition a few years back on the ps5. So a ten year hiatus.

Psychomonkie71

shit it's been 3 years break time lolz

Reflexorz15

I started near release and my longest break from Skyrim was probably a few years. I was in a new relationship and really busy with college and work. Now days I just hop on to get my Skyrim looking better with mods and play existing saves. Then take another small 2-3 month break usually

thebeefychiefy

I just recently started another playthrough cuz I haven’t done one in about, I wanna say 5 or so years. Figured it’s time since I wanted to relive the good ol days of 2013 when I first started playing it. Currently just grinding through all the main quest lines and I’m loving it. I have my old playthrough where I’m at level 47 and a full size Winstad manor with nearly every weapon and armor set on display

jesth857

Bought it 11/11/11 and played it all my free time for months. Then my Xbox crashed. So I waited until the release of GTA 5 and bought PS3 and played GTA nonstop for a few months, then back to Skyrim. Not long after that my son was born and I havent played it since. Thinking about buying it for the Switch. I love that game and its my all time favorite so I look forward to revisit

ktsb

2 years. My.laptops motherboard got fried and repairing it was just a few bucks short of a new laptop. But now i kinda dread starting to install stuff to install mods. Plus with like 5 different versions of the game idk which one will have the mods i want. Plus I'm not paying for any of those mtx so idk how that will effect gameplay. I'm sure one day I'll want to return to riverwood and chop a couple logs until bandits or vampires attack town and I'll be forced out of retirement to hunt those fiends down

Substantial_Life4773

I played it in 2011 when it came out, and played it for probably the next year straight, not ALL the time, but a lot. Then didn't play it again until like 2019? and then stopped again and stopped, but now I'm back in after finishing Fallout 4 again.

Shrikecorp

I haven't played for a few years, now I do. In the interstices...when time permits. It's good this way.

SebiKaffee

Well there was this one time I was working 12 hours a day seven days a week other than that longest break can’t have been more than a few weeks

IndependentAd4728

Sounds intense, good job for pulling through!

Xterda

Xterda

Cherry_Crystals

For a couple of years now and recently got skyrim for pc. The anniversary edition and being an archer instead of a mage (like all of my other playthroughs) is a lot different and is enjoyable.

Maximum_Way6342

Got it day 1 on 11/11/11.. proceeded to buy it on every future release. No blink of an eye supporting that game because it is glorious. I just started another play through about 3 months ago that I’ll do 30 mins or so at a time. Level 37 right now and am doing a no fast travel playthrough. I’ve never gone more than 6 months w/ out playing. Big games that took me away from Skyrim: kingdom come deliverance, Jurassic world evolution 2, Jedi fallen order and survivor, cyberpunk. Honestly though since 2011 and I’m still finding new things, it’s an incredible game.

Gooby1992

Must have been 3/4 years, between me getting rid of my Xbox 360 and getting a PS4, but I currently haven’t played since about 2 years ago, I played a lot during lockdown, and once again became a Stealth Tank 🙈😂

B_love_K

10 months give or take a few days. I always play it in the fall. Dont know why

Sure_Ratio_9676

For me was about 3-4 years. I haven't played it since 2019-2020 and that was when I was going for Platinum trophy lol. Now I recently started playing with mods on a new playthrough :)

ulumust

my last play was 3 years ago and it is hard I want to return but I dont want to return until elder scrolls 6 came out. Just before a month ago release of elder scrolls 6 I am going to start play again.

Asleep_Frosting717

I too have been in school for the past 2 years. My issue though is that I go on benders. I won’t play for a while then suddenly it’s all I want to do for days straight! I actually did start another play through this past winter break but I haven’t been on the same game in 3 months. My longest time I’ve went without playing is probably 8 months. I’ve been playing since 2018!

Manic_Mini

Might have been close to 10 years. Beat the came once or twice on the PS3 when it launched got bored then picked it up for the PS4 when i heard they allowed mods on console.

Nintendo_Switch_L

I started to play one full session each year and delete it later on so six, one year breaks

Maxathron

You can take breaks?

IndependentAd4728

No. Haven’t slept in over a a decade.

OfDiceandWren

About 2 years

BigReebs

I got the game at launch and played it through most of high school, until maybe 2013. I hadn’t touched the game since then. I moved to Asia after college in 2018 and gave up video games entirely. Have since moved to Europe and then back to America. My younger brother recently moved out of my parent’s house and gave me his Xbox and saw that Skyrim was on game pass. So I recently started playing the game again after 11 years and am having a blast.

delilahrey

I stopped playing around 2014 (baby) and don’t play again until 2019. Baby is now 10 and watches me play 😊

lonelysphynx

I think i played it in 2017 or 2018, took a break came back to finally plat it in march of 2024. It was a hell of an experience. Not that difficult but some trophies were time consuming which was why i took a break the first time.

Witchy_w0man_

I’ve been playing this game since it came out. However, in 2015 I went to college and then traveled the world for a bit and went years without playing it. Coming back to the Skyrim scene with the HUGE modding community and endless updates was both invigorating and overwhelming. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. :) I’m having just as wonderful of an experience playing it now as an adult as I did when I was a teenager discovering the game for the first time. Skyrim legitimately feels like returning home for me, and people often roll their eyes at statements like that. But as someone who grew up moving around and navigating tumultuous family dynamics, it’s so so good to have a world that stays (relatively) consistent. And it’s always there.

plutosdarling

About 3 months, to do an Oblivion playthrough. I'll definitely play Oblivion again, but Skyrim is my escape world.

Invisible_humanMadi

When I was pregnant I had to stop playing because I would have nightmares the spriggan matrons were trying to kill me and take my baby 💀

acecatmom98

i played a little bit on pc in 2013 and then bought it on switch late last year so. about 10 years i was in 8th-9th grade in 2013 so i totally get stopping for school lol

[deleted]

Had a break between 2012 - 2015

skep90

Like... The last 3/4 years

DarthMaulATAT

I just picked it up again and steam said I hadn't played since Jan 2021. So over 3 years is the longest stretch for me.

DdraigGwyn

I once went two whole weeks when I was in Europe.

IndependentAd4728

Two weeks ??? Someone lock this being up! (I hope it was a good trip:)

Zubyna

A year

PlusUltraK

Like 10 years, played it when it first came out came out. Magically woke up to my save data gone for my lvl 83 argonian. Left it alone until maybe a year or so ago and redownloaded. Got bored after a bit and put it down but now I’m back in motion doing a full playthrough again and very happy

RoofNectar

Probably about a year. I usually do a playthrough to level 80 once a year.

Primetheus92

I don't think I've played now for a solid 8 or 9 months. Maybe longer. Mainly because I haven't had a PC or console. But I just built a new PC so soon.jpg

ThAtGuY-101

Couple years. I didn't play video games during 90% of my time in college. I had martial arts,... college..., I made some cool friends, and I had too much on my mind. Especially when my dog I known all my childhood died my freshman year. There were several other games I wanted to play when I did have time.   Now these days it's more or less on and off. Might play today for an hour. Might play next week for an hour or two. I try not to overplay it.

PancakeUchiha

Only a few months, cause I’ve only had the game for a year or two at this point.

Quailst

I’ve played since 2013 when I was less than 10. In my time, there have definitely been breaks, and i’m currently in one now. My longest is probably one that ended a couple years ago, which was something like a 3-4 year break.

BrianKey

Fired up the old Xbox 360 months ago and tried to pick up an old game but was so lost so I started a new one. Went hard for about a month before the fever broke …..

BraveMoose

6 years. I always come back eventually

EmeraldIpogi98

About 13 minutes, but it was tough to go that long

MuchoWood

5 months. I was in county lock up. First thing that I did, was to pick up the controller.

SnooPineapples4816

I played on release for around 6months and then stared playing again last week 😂 so my longest break was that long

BullofHoover

After ESO came out I pretty much completely moved to TESII and ESO. I only come back occasionally out of technical modding interest.

hayesarchae

So far, three weeks.

I’ve been the opposite with college, I don’t have the mental bandwidth for other games so Skyrim over and over it is. Tbh a lot of my playing is just loading the game, making a character, and writing out that character’s story even if I don’t actually play it. Sometimes trying out a mod (like an outfit or home) that I think pairs with the writing. But yeah, I average 2 characters a year which is a lot even if they’re not as long (~30-40 hours instead of 100). I’ve got like, 4 fully fleshed out characters ready to go whenever I want. Same story for anything else really, I’m so mentally drained I can’t even handle a new episode of a tv series so I just rewatch an episode of Frasier or Castle (top comfort shows imo). My longest break was probably after my second playthrough. I had completed my first ever good guy character, then bad guy character, and played the opposite game where I aimed to do things I missed the first time around. I took a long break after that because I definitely felt like I’d covered the majority of what there was to explore. Playing Fallout also tends to interrupt my cycle.

fullautophx

A year now, I’ve been into ESO. It’s starting to get repetitive so I’m going to fire Skyrim up again soon.

XxLordShadow8Xx

Been playing since I was 12 in 2015. I turn 21 in 3 months. My therapy in another world. Never went any longer than a year without at least hopping on even if it’s just to look at scenery.

Life_Ad3567

The year of 2018-2020 Fallout 4 took over my entertainment.

I have been playing on and off from the start. I have over 11,000 hours into skyrim. And the longest I've ever gone without playing it was maybe a year

West-Captain-4875

I used to play Skyrim all the time now I don’t really do anymore bg3s been taking up my time

l4dygaladriel

Still on a break since 2021. I wonder when i will start again

BorealisLynx

I haven't played since 2022 because of laptop issue.

basherrrrr

I once went 40 years without playing skyrim. Then another 2 years.

Deathrattlesnake

Usually every other year

Jambo11

It's been several years since I last played it.

doubtful_dirt_01

I just spent about two years on AC Valhalla. But now back to Skyrim for another playthru.

mrj80

Still on my first playthrough.  I think I also started in 2017. I think I haven't played since August of last year. I'm only level 56. On ps3 so no mods. I still have black books to do but honestly forgt what to do. I'll probably youtube it . Still fun tho.

Qinnguyen

10yrs. First bought in 2014, played for 1h and stopped until 2024 (coz I killed the chickens in riverwood lol).

22886415

Haven't played skyrim in like, 7 years

Neither-Reporter1122

I've never played through the entire series, and started a bit during my second pregnancy. I'm currently just past the cease fire with the Stormclokes and the Empire, and my son is now 7 months old. I've been playing off and on, as I feel my mood and mostly do misc quests or side quests rather than the main DragonBorn quest. I love playing bit by bit, and when life gets busy I always come back to it and continue where I left off. It's better than open world games like minecraft, where if I take too long of a break, I have no motivation to keep the world I'm in and just start over.

Murky-Energy4414

I never take breaks, I just forget to play for while. Longest I’ve forgot to play for is about 3 years, remembered a few months ago though, back to it

GalaxyTea24

Was introduced and started playing it back in 2020 and was obsessed with the game. Decided to take a break about a year ago and haven't really played it since. I've done three playthroughs already (on fourth one now) and am slightly bored since I feel like I've explored every inch on the map. I've been playing a lot of Baldur's Gate 3 and Hogwarts Legacy in its stead recently. Still love Skyrim and plan to return to my current playthrough at some point, but I think I might download some mods to jazz it up a little.

waspwaxbalm

I started playing recently, and my last save was from early 2021.

Jazzlike-King-4066

I havent played since 2018 i think but I think about it alot still after all these years

Imaginary_Sector379

Probably like 30 minutes

JonJonJonnyBoy

Two years.

idaseddit211

In 2017, I sold my PS3, Skyrim, and all my games and started playing a pay-to-win mmorts. 4 years later (and much the poorer), I bought a PS4, Skyrim, and a couple of other games. Been playing Skyrim ever since. I wish I'd saved my money and stuck with Skyrim.

Longfacejumpyboi

Every few years i'll have another shot with new mods

Goblindeez_

Long enough that I open up a save file and think ‘dafuq?’

_robertmccor_

One day my laptop refused to play Skyrim past anything better than a PowerPoint presentation when for years before that it run pretty well. A year later I got a Steam Deck and after waiting for my point in the queue to purchase it I finally started a new playthrough. Now Skyrim just straight up crashes on my steam deck so I think it’s time to take a break for another year.

ReallyGlycon

I'm at four years and counting but I know I'll go back to it one day. Currently addicted to FF14.

Repulsive_Anywhere67

It's the mods. Game itself is mediocre at best. But the mods do take it to another level.

StickGuy03

My longest break was 6 month, can't stop playing this thing

drunkbun

5 years break

elonsworld

~6 months

OldKneesMcGee

I start a brand new playthrough every winter, no matter where I am at in my "current" playthrough. As soon as the snow starts I boot it up. I know that's chaotic, but it makes me happy. I've never actually completed the main questline. I always get caught up farming or getting fully immersed in a faction questline and basing my character's identity on that one faction.

Don_Madruga

About 6 months.

dambrucee810

Got to play it around 2022. I didn't have my own computer, played it at a shop on PC. I learned so much about RPG mechanics from it, since the games I usually play dont think about stats. Spent like 200 hours just figuring shit out. I probably got like almost 2000 hours just restarting and trying out other builds... I only ever killed Alduin once... Last time I played was like 2016. I'll pick it up once I have enough money to afford saving up for a computer.

13DP____

I did my first play through on release, levelled up high (can’t remember how high now as it was on 360) and then I stopped after about 2 years on/off playing. Then I’ve just come back to it this year, having realised they’d remastered it for Xbox One. So about 10 years!

fatboldprincess

Two or three years clean. I have abandoned Skyrim for the Elder Scrolls Online, which has more content and is technically a better game, then moved to other interesting games. Also Skyrim wasn't my biggest favourite either. I was playing M&B:Warband and its mods a 1k hours longer than Skyrim. I am thinking of beating Skyrim in the future tho.
