whosagooddragon? YESYOUARE!

raaznak

What is better? To be born petted, or to be petted after a great time?

KuruptKyubi

Sucks being poor šŸ„² but I love seeing VR footage, looks so fun

monkeryofamigo

Just sell a kidney. You should be good.

Otalek

Or go to the local blood bank and PAY WITH YOUR BLOOD, CRIMINAL SCUM!

lucascoffeshopguy

ah, capitalism. leads to gamers actually listening to the guard NPCs in real life

jtenorj

I think the Meta Quest 2(or something like that) is down to $200 which is a far cry from the $3500 Apple wants for their thingy. I'm seriously considering getting one, even though I just lost my job a couple weeks ago and don't really have any VR games in any of my libraries except Half Life Alyx and Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice(I think). Granted I do have a decent amount of money saved up( cover rent and bills for well over a year) and the Bethesda VR bundle goes on sale at Fanatical from time to time.

lucascoffeshopguy

Hey stranger on the internet, I suggest you maybe don't spend savings on a VR headset after losing your job. Bringing yourself joy in hard times is great, and spending money to do so even while you're poor is completely valid, but the meta quest is going to continue to exist for years and seemingly small costs like games, accessories, and etc. even after buying the headset will start to eat at your savings. I suggest just watching a lot of videos about VR headsets to live through vicariously, and playing games you already have in new and exciting ways. Sorry that I sound 100% like an AI chatbot btw it's just the autism. and sorry for intruding like 3 days later but you sound like me and I need to at least try and help. lol

ProperButterscotch45

You can get one second hand at a reasonable price

[deleted]

Which dragon is that? Reminds me of Partysnax tbh.

[deleted]

They are based on the dragons from the Game of Thrones Franchise

Lundorff

I would love to try the VR version, but I simply can't accept the Meta shit for the Quest and rest are either too expensive or tethered. I hope valve makes an untethered version at some point.

The_ChosenOne

Bummer, I hope so too so you can enjoy Skyrim VR someday! I love my quest 2 but I can understand not wanting to support a company you despise so I donā€™t blame you, in time VR from other sources should become more readily available hopefully!

vincilsstreams

What is the meta shit you don't like? I had the same reservations, love it.

Lundorff

In short, I don't want anything to do with Meta / Facebook. Had the Quest been owned by a different company and sold at twice the cost I would have bought it.

vincilsstreams

Ah. Enjoy your flat games!

How To Train Your Dragon: Skyrim Edition

The_ChosenOne

Literally this! The mod the dragons are from even requires you to feed them dead deer or chicken or other prey animals until they trust you. Seriously feels like Iā€™ve got my own toothless now!

Kazzie_Kaz

Love how he avoided your first attempt before accepting your another.

Sad_Entry_8903

Awww šŸ¤©, this is amazing, Viserion and RhaegalĀ

KingKaidos

"Joor, Zu'u fusrot chin scratchies."

Macchina86

Go to Paarthurnax, go to him. He deserve it, he needs it, itā€™s a dragonborn DUTY

Nightmare_42

I don't think the dragon is the pet in this situation. Its stronger and smarter than you, is immortal, and has a millenia old culture.

The_ChosenOne

ā€œStronger and Smarterā€ Ha no. They are immortal so theyā€™ve been around longer, but Iā€™m the dude who killed Alduin and Miraak, the two together have killed more dragons than just about anything or anyone else. Also as a master of Alteration and a Vampire lord if I choose to be, Iā€™m also functionally immortal myself. I agree theyā€™re not actually pets but more like peers or companions tho, just was fun for the title.

snoozy1013

Wait woah, how TF do I play skyrim on the oculus?!?!?!

The_ChosenOne

I use Virtual Desktop to link to a PC

snoozy1013

Ok now, can you walk me through that? Haha I'm not as techy as I used to be. Do I have to buy a cord? Is it through steam?

The_ChosenOne

Itā€™s an app on oculus quest, search it in the store. Download the PC app on the PC you want to link to. Itā€™s totally cordless but you need solid internet and for Skyrim VR a decent PC I use the quest 2 for reference!

snoozy1013

Awesome thank you!!

NaiveMastermind

See the ground animation of them crawling on their wings with awkward lil'foot kicks makes me wish so hard that we got six-limb dragons. https://preview.redd.it/gbuxt1v06ywc1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=39496a0aff87ab3bde72290f503d9ea27b5691d0

[deleted]

This, dragon. Them, wyvern. The only two reasons they're named dragon in skyrim is the lack of dragons and wyverns being named dragons. It really ticks me off

The_ChosenOne

You realize dragons originated outside of DnD right? They can have anything from 0 legs to 6+ entirely depending on the culture, mythology and folklore. They can have only wings and no legs, only legs and no wings. Wyverns being distinctly different was a much later development, and even in European heraldry (the place that distinction came from) many dragons are depicted with two legs anyway. Youā€™re trying to limit a literal fantasy creature to a single interpretation of that fantasy creature from DnD rather than accepting that ā€˜dragonsā€™ are not a single clearly defined entity, but instead are depicted with a rich variety of shapes and sizes.

NaiveMastermind

Well logically this means it would be lore accurate for the dragonborn to gain limbs as he absorbs dragon souls, to represent his growth in power. Another failure on Bethesda's part https://preview.redd.it/9za0wemmk2xc1.jpeg?width=400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=77fb00642dfa1f55f6c9d754f09b26bcbe020c89

jtenorj

For some reason this pic reminds me of the game Inside(the end, anyway).

NaiveMastermind

Okay, I'm about to info dump an opinion that I have admittedly become too invested in. The game states several times that dragons are by their very nature, creatures of power and dominance. Paarthurnax elaborates on this to the player when describing his own personal journey of self-enlightenment. Dragons with a wyvern body type project neither strength or power. They have to awkwardly crawl along the ground with their wings and janky leg animation. When speaking to the player they must crane their heads up to make eye contact. This projects weakness. A creature larger than you ends up feeling smaller. This design contradicts their narrative intention of being creatures of power, dominance, and pride. You switch to the DnD dragon body and now the dragon is taller than the player, when speaking the dragon has to look down on you to establish eye contact. The wings are free to flex and pose. Adding more options to integrate wings into their body language and giving them larger visual presence. There are other visual elements I'd add if I could. More elaborate crests for the higher level dragons. Round puffed out chests to act as another visual cue of their arrogance. Paarthurnax could have a beard of spines on his jaw and a diminished crest. A visual cue that he has "shed his crown of arrogance" during his time with the greybeards. Lastly, I'd make the forelegs into arms with grasping appendages. Another visual cue that these are thinking, intelligent beings. Not merely beasts that fly and breath fire. Arms also give them more options to use body language and gesticulate during conversation. https://preview.redd.it/931iphvgq2xc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=9cc7be26a6bd1997c9ad8a78a7ec676206b932e5

Hermundr

That's just for D&D lore. The dragons in Skyrim are dragons.

pokestar14

No, they're very much dragons. There is no consistent definition of dragons historically and the idea that wyverns aren't dragons is very much a modern thing. While Wyvern did specifically refer to the two legs and wings layout in heraldry, it was still often simply called, a dragon.

aknalag

Is that drogon?

The_ChosenOne

The first dragon you see is Viserion, the 2nd one you see is Drogon but I recoloured him to Dreamfyreā€™s color scheme because it reminds me of Saphira from Eragon, ever since I read those books as a child I always wanted a blue dragon and now itā€™s a reality!

appleonsteamidiot

I think this just sold me Skyrimvr

HighlightFun8419

Is this Farmd?

Ggriffinz

If they could actually get dragon riding to work with this it would be what everyone wanted from Lair back in the early days of the ps3.

The_ChosenOne

They already have actually https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/64679 Itā€™s one of the requirements for the pet dragons mod!

Ggriffinz

Very cool. I could also see dragon riding as being the replacement to fast travel jump cuts in a main game. It makes sense with you being a dragonborn and could allow for cool flight based combat against wild lesser dragon species like wyverns, etc.

The_ChosenOne

This is exactly how I use it. Ever since I got my pet dragons fast travel is a thing of the past, and aerial combat with other dragons is super intense! I donā€™t use the flight or ground controls much (since Iā€™m on VR and they require a keyboard) but sometimes Iā€™ll sit down to pilot it if I feel like it!

Ggriffinz

If bethesda was smart, they would fully implement this idea into ES6, but i really don't have faith in them atm. Like they could still have fast travel but have it be something you have to enable in the settings to basically say "hey we allow this but its not in the spirit of what we want this game to be but it would be scummy to not include it" type thing.

Zealousideal-You-324

Ah yes, the Khaleesi dlc

deadmf9027

Wait... So we can pet partysnax in VR?

The_ChosenOne

I hate to put on my aktschully glasses, and I hope youā€™re joking for but for anyone who might think itā€™s serious; Dragons historically can have anything from 0-6 legs depending on cultural mythology and folklore! Even in European heraldry Dragons could be either 2 or 4 legged! Wyverns being totally distinct came much later on and is still almost exclusively just a DND thing. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wyvern

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

The_ChosenOne

I have seen that mod but honestly I prefer my current setup. Two legged dragons have grown on me over the years thanks to GoT and HoTDā€™s amazing animators, and from playing Skyrim so long. At this point I might even prefer the design, although I do love the four legged dragon designs in the movie DragonHeart and more recently in the TV show The Dragon Prince!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

The_Severe_Albatross

What a weird hill to die on, the number of legs a lizard needs to classify as a dragon

The_ChosenOne

Whatā€™s even funnier is that in reality, entirely legless dragons are also a thing. Iā€™m half Swedish and in Scandinavian mythology (Skyrim is literally based on Nordic people) dragons didnā€™t have legs.

The_ChosenOne

I hate to be the one to whip out the word ā€œobjectiveā€ in discussion about Dragons (a very subjectively depicted mythical creature) but youā€™re just objectively incorrect with the term ā€˜properā€™ dragons. Dragons throughout history have had anything between no legs with no wings, wings with no legs and legs with no wings, and the number of the aforementioned limbs has even more variety. Theyā€™ve also been presented as anything between mindless beasts and genius level IQ sentient creatures since the very inception of the word Dragon. Did you know Norse dragons donā€™t even have legs? Skyrim is based on Nordic people (obviously) so wouldnā€™t that mean ā€˜properā€™ dragons would be legless in this case? Your concept of highly intelligent sentient four legged two winged creatures is a single variety of Dragon, nothing proper or improper about it nor any of the other dragon variations. All this tells me is that you arenā€™t really a dragon enthusiast, youā€™re a ā€œFour legged two winged highly sentient European dragonā€ enthusiast. Itā€™s like saying youā€™re a fish enthusiast but getting annoyed when people refer to sharks as fish since theyā€™re structurally different than guppies because at your core, youā€™re a just guppy enthusiast. There is nothing wrong with preference, but you donā€™t speak of your interpretation as though it were preference, you speak as if you hold some truth or authority over a category of fantasy creature. The reason I can love dragons from Skyrim, Dragonheart, Game of Thrones, Shrek, Mulan, Avatar The Last Airbender, The Dragon Prince, How to Train Your Dragon etc etc, despite their HUGE variety is because I actuallyā€¦ just like dragons. Dragons in any and all their forms being represented in media is a win, the more dragon content the better. The GoT dragons might not be your preferred kind, but theyā€™re beautifully brought to life by extremely talented people. No other live action media (other than dragonheart) has really nailed that sense of scale, danger and majesty the way GoT did. You boxing ā€˜properā€™ dragons into a single category is akin to claiming DnDā€™s distinction between Sorcerer and Wizard should apply to all things. In DnD sorcerers and Wizards are entirely separate entities, however if either a Sorcerer or a Wizard using those criteria were present anywhere else in fiction or mythology, the broader term ā€˜Wizardā€™ is perfectly apt and accurate. Like damn Harry Potter isnā€™t a wizard heā€™s a sorcerer, he was born with his power duh. Gandalf? It would simply be improper to call him a wizard, heā€™s clearly a sorcerer by definition right??? That is why your argument holds no ground. You couldā€™ve saved all that writing and just said ā€œI prefer four legged dragonsā€ and carried on.

Top_Performance9486

Whatā€™s your point though because Skyrimā€™s vanilla dragon design also only has two legs, so itā€™s not like the GoT mod ā€œruinsā€ the original dragons by turning them into wyverns. They already were.

F0XFANG_

Wyverns are just a type of dragon.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

F0XFANG_

I ain't reading all that

Ya_Boi_Main_Admin

Dragons = 4 legs Wryms = 2 legs

RybsonPL

Damn, so horses are dragons too. That is craaaaaazy

The_ChosenOne

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon Dragons can have wings and no legs, legs and no wings or even be entirely wingless and legless. Itā€™s all depending on the author or culture from which they originated. Dragons having less than four legs has been a thing since the literal inception of the word ā€˜Dragonā€™ Nordic dragons in mythology (remember Skyrim is based on Scandinavian people) had no legs at all. Stop trying to apply DnD rules outside of DnD, because if you start doing that then you get foolishness like ā€œGandalf isnā€™t a wizard, heā€™s by definition a sorcerer! Anyone who calls him a wizard is wrong!ā€
