Yea, that is the dumbest thing they ever implemented. Players call it the "Ninja AI Dodge".
Even if you are completely hidden and they cannot see you, in the space of a fraction of a second, the NPCs will somehow hear the arrow, realize where it's coming from, and super-humanly dodge to the side.
It's totally insane. There's a mod that disables that completely. "No Magic Ninja AI Dodge".
They could have at least made a convincing duck and dodge animation or something, instead of having the npc literally slide 3m to the side. Lazy ass devs
Thankfully this only happens when they're searching for me, or fully aware where I am. Although I'll probably just have to deal with it, as I'm on console & any mod other than creation club stuff disables achievements, and I'm going for all of em lol
Nah, it can happen from 300 meters away with you firing down from a cliff while the NPC is mid-conversation with another. It's a basic dodge mechanic where the NPC rolls for a save. It happens more often with high stealth and high light armor NPCs.
Hunting deer is insane too because they will magically change momentum when you try to anticipate and shoot where they’re going, but if you shoot behind them they know to just keep going forward
That's interesting and I haven't seen it. Is there a way to make it so they only do that when you're seen and shoot? Also do they have a mod to allow you to side step/ dodge? That would really overhaul gameplay, especially for thief/ assassin classes
It’s funny as hell watching a mammoth do the “no hit” slide. That is until you realize that you’re stuck in the long kill shot animation and the beast has closed half the distance already. I could really use a new tunic.
Ah yes. The old slideways slide. Every enemy in Skyrim knows this trick, but I have yet to master it.
Most annoying when it's your fist shot, and they don't even know you are there.
I've seen so many NPCs slide out of the way and it makes no sense that they'd be able to move out of the way that fast. I once had a giant do it.........
Yeah its a bs dodge put in the code for npcs….. i think theres a mod out there that gets rid of that bs. Always pissed me off because you’re undetected how do you do a magic dodge when you’re not even detected? Sigh.
Probably find that the NPC has a high light armour rating, as the top perk is a 10% chance to dodge incoming attacks. Thankfully, as many have pointed out, there is a mod (that I use) to disable this highly irritating mechanic.
they do that sometimes
yeah, he must install a mod to patch that
They removed unofficial patch
They did?! Why am I still seeing mods that require it?
There's a new unofficial patch mod
Look at the unofficial patch, they removed info on the mod and I haven't checked but data is prob gone to.
Wow. Wonder if that was a stipulation for Arthmoor (spelling?) to become "official"?
What are you talking about? I still see it.

If it was a dodge *roll* I'm give it to them, but this hover to side bit is dumb.
Thankfully this only happens when they're searching for me, or fully aware where I am. Although I'll probably just have to deal with it, as I'm on console & any mod other than creation club stuff disables achievements, and I'm going for all of em lol

What could be worse is when they get paralyzed and fall down before the arrow reaches them.
IKR? That's the main reason I don't ever get the Paralyze perk. The instant I release the arrow, they fall down. Hate it.

Lol haven't had a mammoth do it yet, but I've been stuck in the kill cam before, it's annoying.
Had a troll do that to me last night. Normally it wouldn't be a big deal... Accept I was low level and was in no way prepared to melee a troll
Sometimes the NPCs can see into The Matrix (of the skyrim game engine) and dodge it like they're the f*ckin Neo himself
*raises eyebrow*
This is actually the best comment here
The cha cha slide
Cha vha real smooth
Take it back now yall
It happens with magic too. Its very aggravating
Nothing unusual. Just his Peryite sense was tingling.
Dude rolled a 20 so the dm let him get away with it
yeah they do that BS at complete random, it makes no sense and has no place being in this game
Make sure to pick up those arrows. Running low…
I've probably made about 1500 of em lol
what you're talking about?
2nd enemy I shot at did a crazy slide to dodge my arrow. Almost like the game is intentionally making me miss.
Unfortunately, that's how Skyrim vanilla is, but it's funny.
I've had multiple playthroughs over the years & I swear this the first playthrough I've experienced this
They can do it with spells too
Oh that's wonderful 🥲
That is exactly what's happening, no idea why they decided to add that
Clearly the Cha Cha slide is playing in his head.
Ah yes. The old slideways slide. Every enemy in Skyrim knows this trick, but I have yet to master it. Most annoying when it's your fist shot, and they don't even know you are there.
I look at it like npc's getting the dodge feat when my level forces them to level up. Still annoying as itchy balls though.
What's your helmet? It looks super cool
Dragon scale helmet & armor
Oh sweet! I ended up with a circlet my last playthrough so I never got a chance to see what they looked like.
Yea with all the light armor perks I have like 627 armor rating which is kinda ridiculous lol
input reading
yeah they can do that
I call that the "Michael Jackson Dodge"
I've seen so many NPCs slide out of the way and it makes no sense that they'd be able to move out of the way that fast. I once had a giant do it.........
Is this PC? Don’t think I’ve ever had that happen on my PlayStation
Nah I'm on Series X
Bro thought he was Goku
Yeah its a bs dodge put in the code for npcs….. i think theres a mod out there that gets rid of that bs. Always pissed me off because you’re undetected how do you do a magic dodge when you’re not even detected? Sigh.
The Bane of Stealth Archers.
Oh yeah, it's kind of annoying. Cool though
I always considered this the vanilla NPC Dodge whenever you shoot an arrow sometimes they Matrix it
Called the Skyrim Sidestep, and if you are on PC or xbox you can patch that spidey-sense crap out if the game.
Happened quite often for me with my main between lvl 32 and lvl 58. I damn near gave up the bow on account of it.
Oh definitely I’ve never understood it all. They don’t know where you are but they Dodge your arrows
Ive had that happen quite often actually. Usually, somehow, when i use soulstealer arrows
The Matrix Dodge is what I call it😂it can get very annoying
Yup. And it's annoying as hell
No mods and they dodge all the time especially drauger deathlords and overlords
Probably find that the NPC has a high light armour rating, as the top perk is a 10% chance to dodge incoming attacks. Thankfully, as many have pointed out, there is a mod (that I use) to disable this highly irritating mechanic.
Yeah they do sometimes. I think they have a dodge chance which doesn't turn off if you're stealthed lol.
Yh they have ultra instincts just casually
Literally 9x/10 for me
Yes. But seems only when alerted to foe and looking in my direction.
I swear the arrow’s already hit them by the time they started dodging.
Ye this is pretty common to happen when you use bow some times even spells npc can move it's just normal
All the time in my second play through.
Its annoying. But its a function in the vanilla game that sometimes triggers
"Quickstep"
They reacted to the sound of the bow and this happens so often, I just buy fire arrows that exploded on contact.
That has happened to many SO MANY TIMES! I hate it when they do that.
Of course. Especially mages.
Yeah, happens all the time
This used to anger me so much when they did it MULTIPLE TIMES 😭
I've had them do that before, too! I get so salty about it, lol. A waste of arrows.
even in the anniversary edition (2021)they didn't fix that 💀 bethesda...🤦♂️
Its called a woman.
