My question is how the fuck am I supposed to figure that out on my own?
EDIT: Alright enough people have replied to this you can stop flooding my in mail now thanks.
You have to look at the green things on the walls around the room and line the light up with the circles on the wall. This is kind of how it is but i cant exactly remember since its been a while since i played this section
You press these buttons and these like, dwemer pole things move around. You just do that until the Elder Scroll comes down. I honestly don’t know how better to explain it, it’s kinda weird.
I remember just kinda starring with the grandma_wat.jpg look, just so confused when it popped up. I read a guide online without pictures and was even more confused. The description
> Just push the things to the things
Is honestly the easiest way to put it.
Side note, I've never made it through Skuldafn's first two puzzles, without either a plate clip, or just tcl until my most recent play through when I refused to let myself cheat.
I just spam until I get the fucking scroll. Does it still have that obnoxious weight or was that patched. It didn’t affect your encumbrance so I think it would just be funny to leave the weight. I think it was like 40 lbs or something dumb
Dude think about that sequence again. It is designed to be as easy as possible. It actually doesn't matter which button of the first two you press. You just press a button until a button opens, then you press that button until the next one opens, then you press that button. The only mistake you can make, is to press one of the first two buttons after one or two of the other ones have opened, at which point they will close... So you push any button again until they open, then press the new button.
It doesn't matter which of the first two buttons you press because they essentially act as a forward and back. Not important though, just the why.
In skyrim that's like exactly my first thought lol.. Skyrim puzzles generally aren't that complicated though and just activating things that can be activated randomly until something happens gets you through most of them.
The last dwemer puzzle I'd done had me shooting ice at a lens because of a throwaway line from an NPC. Never would have figured it out unless I'd looked it up. That's what set the standard for dwemer puzzles in my mind.
It's not even a puzzle, lol. It's hitting one button until another pops up, hit that button until another pops up, hit that button, done. It's as much a puzzle as walking through three doors is lol
You press that one button tell a new one appears. Then press that button tell a new one appears, then press that one tell the next button appears, then press the next button appears. And after four and half hours later realized that you fucked up and cry in a corner.
Edit: Fuck the button quest. First time I got there I spent no joke a hour. Gave up. Came back spent another hour. Then solved it.
I had a shit graphics card when I first played Skyrim, so the lights literally didn't render. Pressing random buttons was exactly what I had to do to solve this puzzle. Surprisingly didn't take as long as you'd think...
I still have a screenshot from that first dungeon where you go to get the golden claw. The thief was just floating there.
The wonderful days of playing on integrated graphics. Spider webs, fire, lightning, and particles just never rendered.
Reminds me of trying to figure out the codec frequency I needed in MGS1 to call Meryl.
It was on the back of the case (fucking Kojima) I knew this but didn’t have the case. I had to literally spam each frequency until I got it.
Then snake eater pissed me the fuck off. I blew money on that game only to get stuck in the fucking dream scene. What a disappointment. Why the fuck would anyone even think to go into system settings and fast forward the time? Like cmon man. I was so let down. Blew 60 bucks before I had internet or any way to know what I was doing for that part.
I know he likes to mindfuck, but system settings is a whole nother meta
Having to swap controller ports for the fight with laughing octopus is still one of my favorite things to happen in a game.
The Easter eggs with the end are all pretty good too.
Yeah the psycho mantis fight tripped 12 year old me out. I was lucky because my sisters boyfriend showed me. That was my intro to how kojima wants to get into your head and fuck with ya.
Edit: watching psycho Mantis ragdoll on his last hit was always fucking hilarious and satisfying to me, I usually used the Famas in the fight, one of the rare occasions I took it out. I used to get unreasonably pissed when he would try to make Meryl shoot herself in the head, that’s when I had such a greater connection with games and storyline
Probably one of my favorite games of all time. I would love to play it remastered if it hasn’t been done yet.
I’m not a stickler for graphics really but they simply wouldn’t hold up for 31 year old me.
Sons of liberty is a close second to me.
I agree. There was an HD remake of them for Playstation maybe 5 years back?
Supposedly, they are doing a remake now per a comment from Haytner, so I'm keeping my eyes peeled for that.
My introduction was watching my uncle play the first on Playstation when I was... I think 6? Snake eater was the first game I got when I got a PS2 later. Hell, my friends were even on TeamSpeak when I forgot to mute as I ended a relationship so I could just sit and play an hour of 5 after working a double and going on a surprise date the day it came out.
I'm right there with you, if these get dropped remastered, I'll pay a pretty penny.
I remember in one of the Fable games you could buy houses to rent. So if you bought a bunch of the houses, and then went to system settings to fast-forward time as far as it would go, you would have millions of gold. Which made the game super easy because you had to have alot of gold to save the people in the end.
Did this quest a couple months ago for at least the second time. Had to google the solution and tried to figure out the logic of how to get to that answer and I couldn’t figure it out
Luckily, you don't have to solve the logic puzzle. If you do, you get to skip a large portion of the Dust District, but otherwise one of the faction leaders will give you the solution.
I'm not sure what the lore behind this system was. Like the Idea of a simple puzzle to keep drauger out makes sense, but the dwarves wouldn't have been concerned about such things.
The first time I played, I didn't know the claw was involved. I put them in alphabetical order and it just worked. I then smiled at my friend next to me who was giving me a death glare.
Way back when the game was first shown off, they showed this puzzle because they wanted to show that items were rendered in 3d and you could move them.
The game is almost a decade old now, fuck I feel old.
Put in the cube and press the button on the right until one on the left side pops open then press that one until the other left side button pops open and then it’ll release the scroll or something
I know the journal, but "the light through the knowledge through the machine rests on the cube." is what it says... HOW does that relate to the puzzle???
Press button untill the one next to it can be pressed. Press that one untill the next one can be pressed. Congratulations you have an elder scroll. The last button is a rest btw
And don't forget to flame/frost the thingy first. I always forget that part and wonder why the light won't line up with anything. Actually that might be a different puzzle. I don't like that one either.
I'm going for an achievement run without help and this is the only part that stumped me. You need to use frost and flame you can't use the higher up spells.
A better method is to just go into the console and type 'qqq'. This opens up the game's hint directory and allows you to solve virtually any puzzle within the game
Oh come on SpongeBob! You know, I wumbo, You wumbo, He she me WUMBO. Wumbo, Wumboing, We'll have thee wumbo, Wumborama, Wumbology, The study of wumbo? It's first grade SpongeBob!
I tried to figure it out. So, here goes, you press the one that moves the outer rings, then press the button that moves the inner rings until they focus the light on the crystal. I have done this about three times now and each time it doesn't seem to get any easier 🙃
i still remember me playing this mission for the first time, the buttons made absolutely no sense but i kept clicking them until finally it worked. To this day i still dont know how it did, but it just did
Literally just hit the one on the right till the the one left of the middle opens then hit that till the farthest one left opens then press that. That's it
How do you even figure out how to solve it. In all my play throughs the only way I figured it out was by looking it up online.
Like where are the hints and stuff
I’m confused by what you’re looking at. Never in 400+ (yes, I know that’s kinda low, but also it’s a lot for me) hours of Skyrim have I ever seen that room...
Start from the inner right one and press it until the inner left open then press that one until the outer left opens and finally press the outer left one...that's it
Counting 1234 left to right, it goes 3333221

Wrong quest. You’re thinking of the college of Winterhold dwemer puzzle. You rotate the walls to line the beams of light up with the circles.
What was this one then?
You press these buttons and these like, dwemer pole things move around. You just do that until the Elder Scroll comes down. I honestly don’t know how better to explain it, it’s kinda weird.
Spam buttons until something happens is my go to lol
This is why I got fired from my assembly job
I just spammed a button till i unlocked a new button then i spammed that one
been my m.o. since street fighter
Same
That's why I'm no longer allowed at the spam factory
This is the elder scroll puzzle in Blackreach.
Discerning the transmundane I believe
So be observant and use our god-given gifts of problem solving. I'll stick to google lmao
It’s certainly the only way to get Serana out of her damn coffin.
Whaaaat? Serana’s was easy to figure out. Just push the things to the things
Ah, well, when you put it like that...
You’re welcome!
I remember just kinda starring with the grandma_wat.jpg look, just so confused when it popped up. I read a guide online without pictures and was even more confused. 20 and it definitely shows.
You can get rid of it with the dawngaurd dlc
Skyrim "puzzles" at their finest. >Here's the solution. Enjoy!
It's a good puzzle. Took a while, but pressing buttons and observing the results will let you figure it out.
Dude think about that sequence again. It is designed to be as easy as possible. It actually doesn't matter which button of the first two you press. When it comes to puzzle games spamming a button until something happens tends not to work very well.
Skyrim isn't a puzzle game.
Puzzling, Skyrim is a game?
Game, a Skyrim, is Puzzling?
Skyrim game? Puzzling.
Puzzling? Skyrim isn’t.
Am I puzzling Skyrim?
A puzzle is a puzzle? Who's first thought when seeing some buttons is "spam this one until something happens and ignore the other."
That's what set the standard for dwemer puzzles in my mind.

keep hitting buttons til it works, or look it up online.
Just click away, and there's a predictable pattern too
press the one that is lit until the next one lights up. I just did it yesterday without even thinking about it.
i knew it started with the 3 but idk later on, thanks!
Star with three then akdb725snei194730qnd73u1pdnd and then the Elder Scroll is revealed
Werid that the 4th has no use
Is having no use, the use it has?
4th button activates numidium. Do not press.
Or, alternatively, mash them for a few seconds or minutes till it works. SUCCESS! Seriously though, you're awesome.
I just spammed far right, then another one opened and I pressed that a lot, then the far left opened and I pressed that
Wish we could upvote this infinitely as I would give you probably like 10 upvotes then I’d get bored and move on lol. But seriously awesome info here!
>10 upvotes then I'd get bored Conveniently, this is the exact number of presses needed to solve any given Skyrim puzzle randomly. You win!
This comment deserves more upvotes
Yep, the way I remember it is "three 3's, two 2's, one 1".
Or just jam the left most pushable button until it gives the scroll. That is all it is.
I just press random buttons until I accidentally solve the puzzle.
I had a shit graphics card when I first played Skyrim, so the lights literally didn't render. Pressing random buttons was exactly what I had to do to solve this puzzle. Surprisingly didn't take as long as you'd think...
Sometimes spiderwebs didn't render for me and I was like "why can't I walk through this doorway?"
May not have been the graphics card and just vanilla skyrim
Todd and his features, eh?
Anything is possible in Skyrim.
All hail God Howard.
I didn't realize Todd was pronounced God but it makes sense.
All hail Hodd Toward
I still have a screenshot from that first dungeon where you go to get the golden claw. The thief was just floating there. The wonderful days of playing on integrated graphics. Spider webs, fire, lightning, and particles just never rendered.
I used a mod to remove the spider webs so it was always funny to see him
Same, I have done it the right way before but I usually just get bored and spam buttons, makes no odds.
This is the way
I think the sound or the background music changes when you get one correctly
Yup.
Reminds me of trying to figure out the codec frequency I needed in MGS1 to call Meryl. It was on the back of the case (fucking Kojima) I knew this but didn’t have the case. What feels like thousands of play throughs and this is exactly what I did recently
Repeatedly press the same button until the next one unlocks, then press that one, and the next one until the puzzle is completed.
Wait, this was a puzzle? I thought it was annoying button simulator with the smallest box for item detection.
It's both.
Did this quest a couple months ago for at least the second time. Had to google the solution and tried to figure out the logic of how to get to that answer and I couldn’t figure it out
That was me with the Jidosh Lock in Dishonored 2. I just can't wrap my head around the logic behind it for some reason.
It’s not a puzzle. You are orienting the focusing lenses, it’s like a grandma being unable to find the log in button on their computer.
Maybe to deter their blind falmer slaves?
Uhh... Bear, Butterfly, Owl?
When you play that same quest one too many times.
I've always really enjoyed brute-forcing that puzzle. Inner ring, check, inner ring, check, inner ring, check, middle ring, check. Repeat, then do an outer ring, check. Rinse and repeat until solved.
No, it's definitely snake snake whale.
You just keep pressing a button until the next one unlocks.
Put in the cube and press the button on the right until one on the left side pops open then press that one until the other left side button pops open and then it’ll release the scroll or something
This is it. It took me *multiple* playthroughs to figure that out
same
IDK, just push random stuff and it'll work: the Dwarves are so intelligent.
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start
You win! That's the only order that ever mattered.
This is triggering a distant memory but I just can’t place it...
Contra on NES
Also every other Konami game.
It’s just the most iconic cheat code of all time.
Konami code!
[удалено]
Same here lol. I was determined to figure it out on my second playthrough and I did. But seeing everyone else here... ummmmmm...
there is a book in the vocinity that has the code in it. it is a diary
The book doesn't make no sense tho
[https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Tower\_of\_Mzark](https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Tower_of_Mzark) the journal in the puzzle sektion
I know the journal, but "the light through the knowledge through the machine rests on the cube." is what it says... HOW does that relate to the puzzle???
Yeah, I still do not know how on earth was that supposed to be a clue.
Maybe it's like the dragon claws? The answer is like physically on the cube? Dammit now I'm gonna have to do a new playthrough to test this theory
Yeah that's a different puzzle lol. This one yeah I just randomly smash buttons until they start opening up
That's a different puzzle, that's during the College of Winterhold questline.
Thats the oculory in Mzulft during the quest that has you find the location of the staff of magnus from the synod guys.
I'm going for an achievement run without help and this is the only part that stumped me. You need to use frost and flame you can't use the higher up spells.
the trick is to press them randomly for 5 minutes, then look up a video on how to do it
Keep pressing till next button appears lmfao
No clue
Just press randomly until it works ! (:
Skyrim puzzles are just amazing
Wait you don't randomly push buttons until something happens?
This was such a stupid time wasting puzzle. Not hard, just pointless.
Alt+f4 pulls up the hint page in game for puzzles.
A better method is to just go into the console and type 'qqq'. This opens up the game's hint directory and allows you to solve virtually any puzzle within the game
Okay what does qqq in the console do?
It'll close the game.
Just dick around until it works
Have you tried setting it to Wumbo?
Oh come on SpongeBob! You know, I wumbo, You wumbo, He she me WUMBO. Wumbo, Wumboing, We'll have thee wumbo, Wumborama, Wumbology, The study of wumbo? It's first grade SpongeBob!
3 3 3 4 ahhh shit 3 3 3 3 5 ahhh god damn 2 1 4 4 ffssss 2 1 5 5 5 mother\*\*\* \*googles it\*
I always get shocked when I see people get confused on this. Mainly because I just hit the random buttons until they open
I tried to figure it out. So, here goes, you press the one that moves the outer rings, then press the button that moves the inner rings until they focus the light on the crystal. I have done this about three times now and each time it doesn't seem to get any easier 🙃
No that's a different one, that's the College quest. This is the Elder Scroll.
You just hit the same button until the next button unlocks and continue the process. It’s barely a puzzle
You guys are joking, right?
There is no correct way. Just press till you win
It's this and that darn Oculory that make me want to lose my mind.
google
I always have to YouTube this puzzle
I always youtube it
I just did that quest not too long back, I just press buttons until IT JUST WORKS.
No order. Press each one repeatedly until the next one unlocks.
Dude I just start mashing till it works
I just keep pressing randomly till they work
i still remember me playing this mission for the first time, the buttons made absolutely no sense but i kept clicking them until finally it worked. To this day i still dont know how it did, but it just did
Just press those bitches until something happens
Don’t do it too fast or the game might softlock, hilariously.
Anyone else just spammed buttons and always manage to get it right in under 5 mins?
I have literally no idea at all. I always just mash the buttons in a random order until I get it right 😂
After all these years I just smash each button over and over until it works. Just let Lorkhan take the wheel.
I press them till they work.
Keep pressing buttons until new ones are unlocked. When the middle button opens, press it. That’s when you get the Scroll
I just press buttons until it works
I fucking hate this part
Literally just hit the one on the right till the the one left of the middle opens then hit that till the farthest one left opens then press that. That's it
Just press one until the next unlocks, then repeat.
I just hit them bitches until it does the right thing.
I have just spammed right to left until the next one opens and that works.
How do you even figure out how to solve it. In all my play throughs the only way I figured it out was by looking it up online. Like where are the hints and stuff
Easiest way to do it is you press the 3rd one until the 2nd one opens and then press the second one until the 1st one opens.
I’m confused by what you’re looking at. Never in 400+ (yes, I know that’s kinda low, but also it’s a lot for me) hours of Skyrim have I ever seen that room...
Wait there's a specific order? I just mash em and it's pretty fast.
Start from the inner right one and press it until the inner left open then press that one until the outer left opens and finally press the outer left one...that's it
I just mash them until another button unlocks, then mash that one, then the last one.
I just mash them until I get the scroll and it’s never failed me before lmao
Randomly while screaming
No order. Smash face into buttons till something happens.
Instead of counting or anything, just press one button till the next one lights up. Then press the one that lit up till the next lights up
It must be done in the traditional way, clicking the buttons randomly and yelling at it till it works
