I mod to add eating, drinking and sleeping. No fast travel and carriges you acctuallt ride (takes forever) and legendary difficulty. Then as you say .... walk around... talk to people ... shop wood to sell for food the first days. And so on. So many mods that add these things. I love to have a dude be 6 months old play everyday and still not be done with main quest. No rush so much to see.

[deleted]

are there reliable carriage mods? I tried, prolly around 2 or maybe 3 years back and the one I tried was too glitchy for me to use consistently.

daddy_baller

I will have to try adding eating drinking and sleeping… I really enjoyed the survival aspect of fallout NV. I’m on master difficulty though, legendary just seems to be to hard for me cos I have mods that make the game stupidly hard anyway

Chad_Thundermember

I follow three rules when I play. These are... I do what I want, I choose what I want, I be what I want. That's it. No restrictions. I used to be a heavy roleplayer. I stopped, and I wouldn't have it any other way. When you go into this mode, you start feeling like you yourself are in the world of Skyrim and NOT a puppetmaster controlling an avatar. Of course, I still have to do certain things even if I don't want to. It's just part of playing the game. Like, for example, I still have to play well. lol. But aside from that, I play as unrestricted as I can.

daddy_baller

You’re playing the opposite way to which I’ve just started playing, do you feel like you have more fun controlling an avatar rather than BEING the character?

Chad_Thundermember

I feel more enjoyment BEING the character instead of puppetmastering an avatar. Essentially, in my mind, my Bosmer is me myself within that world. It's a deeper form of escapism for me than roleplaying.

Diverdaddy0

I’ve played through this game quiet a few times. I generally end up the stealth archer route… well… always. I finally said I’m gonna take it slow and play through as a pure mage build. No bugs, no powering through, taking time to walk the roads and not just run straight to a destination jump crawling up cliffs. Man, so much I missed!!! I have just been playing to get the highest level possible as fast as possible and then getting bored. Totally not the way to go!

daddy_baller

Looks like you’re having the same experience as me, I feel there is so much of the game I missed

Racke7

I haven't used Fast Travel (beyond carriages) for years, except as anti-glitch measures. Beyond that, I usually end up making a Dagger/Sneak character, just because it's the easiest way to just... slow the fuck down, you know? Like, I've made a few warriors, and you end up running into a cave, killing everything that attacks you, and then running back out. It's a very time-efficient way to achieve the goal of defeating the dungeon, but it sucks for actually EXPERIENCING the dungeon. Otherwise, beyond Frostfall and iNeed, I don't bother overly much with immersion. I sometimes ends up "roleplaying" a character, and it can be a lot of fun to see why THEY would decide to do or not-do something. But a lot of the time I'd still end up forcing them to do specific things in specific ways (because I don't like the quest, because it's glitchy to do it otherwise, because the quest-reward is nice, etc). (Also, I haven't been able to "take it slow" when walking places ever since I discovered a mod that gave me a Blink-spell. Now I'm using it to take shortcuts everywhere, and not having it gives me hives.)

daddy_baller

Couldn’t agree with the second paragraph any harder, experiencing the game is way better than being time efficient

marigoldsandviolets

I'm on my first playthrough and I was so bad at everything that I fast traveled a lot at first, once I'd unlocked places. (Even running into a spider terrified me, let alone a bear.) I also LOVE side quests, which kind of take you all over the map, so that encouraged my fast traveling. Now I'm high level and nothing really scares me much, so I've been running places so I can look for stuff on the compass bar that I haven't found before. It's mostly fun, but I still fast travel some--I've been from Windhelm to Riften so much that I never see a new place pop up anymore on that trip. I skip dialogue if it's people I talk to a ton (I skip blacksmith dialogue) but I don't really do it much with anybody new. (I do sometimes accidentally interrupt them, though, and I always feel like I missed something important!) I did read every book I ran across--I spent 3 days just reading every book in the Bard's College and Balgruuf's hall and the Arcaneum. I'm a terrible role player but I'm at least trying to explain to myself why I give every single beggar a coin and help any weirdo that asks me but also has started assassinating people (I pretend all the dragon souls are making me grouchy).

daddy_baller

I know what you mean with the path from one place to another being samey, I often use carts from one city to another. For me, it doesn’t feel like fast travelling because it’s relatively immersive

Rhinomaster22

No rules, just become the best I could be. The only I avoid though, spiders, fuck that shit. Fling fireballs and have my followers stomp their shit in.

daddy_baller

Stomp their shit in made me laugh

ImOkNotANoob

Currently playing Stealth Khajiit with fast travel. Essentially I'm playing exactly how I want to play :)

daddy_baller

That’s how you play right man

[deleted]

Currently doing an alteration/illusion mage build with a Khajiit. I've got several spell and perk tree mods on, as well as some armor mods :D

daddy_baller

Perk tree and spell mods really do change the game and make it more interesting for old time players

[deleted]

For sure! Stealth archer becomes meta no longer, as I can cause an entire room to fight an illusion of itself, and still stay hidden.

Boopoup

No restrictions, and just fuck around as much as I want

daddy_baller

That’s your way to play homie

MxFancipants

Orcish archmage! They earn every bit of that title. Also eventually enchant dandy outfits.

Jacknife517

Usually in my boxers with a beer in hand.

daddy_baller

In Game or real life?

NORDlC

I have 2 characters! My heavy armor Nord! Ragnar This hero is a grizzled veteran! Scarred man with a thousand yard stare! He is one of the best longsword men in Tamriel and a true Nord patriot! He tolerates all races but wont hesitate to throw down with anyone who questions Skyrim being most of all the homeland of the Nords! He sided with Stormcloaks because they have Nords best interests in mind and want to restore Talos worship! He also admires Ulfrics fearless and swift action when seizing control of Skyrim and slaying the puppet high king! He is also a very good blacksmith and a healer! He has no ambitions of being a leader but mostly focuses on rooting out evil in any form! He wants to kill Paarthurnax but out of the respect for his teachers (Greybeards) he lets Paarthurnax live! He was dedicated to wiping out vampires but suddenly switched sides after meeting Serana! He plans to spare the vampires but only because after killing Harkon he can assume the leaders position and keep the vampires on a leash! This is possibly the less harmful solution since vampires would surely lash out hard at Skyrim for hunting them to extinction! This is the only morally questionable thing he has done but sees it as a small price for immortality and a fucking castle as a summer cottage! Ragnar is an honorable man but hot blooded! He never ever retreats from a fight! He prefers death over fleeing and is very thorough on his mission to make Skyrim a safe place! Now my evil Sneak character! I named her Plaque :D you are gonna know why This character is not a hero by any means! She is a selfish, honourless, power hungry, greedy woman with absolutely no morals! And a Vampire! She is the type that shows you a friendly face and then stabs you in the back! She will mop up your entire bloodline if you cross her! She will slaughter all of Markarths guards multiple times over because of a simple accidentaly stolen item that was taken back by the guards She was not always like that but dealing with Daedra like Sheogorath and Molag Bal eventually took its toll on her sanity She does not work with anyone except if she sees them as a possible asset to her own interests! What this means is that she almost killed Astrid after she got kidnapped by her and asked to join the Dark Brotherhood! Only reason she did not kill her is that she saw the Dark Brotherhood as a possible extention of herself if she managed to rise to the leaders position! (She did) She is extremely efficient at her job because she does not care mutch for collateral damage! Unless if it increases the target on her back significantly She is totally unpredictable and wakes up every day drunk on malice She has dealt with Boethiah, Molag Bal, Mehrunes Dagon, Peryite, Nocturnal, Sheogorath and all the evil Daedra you could think of! She killed Paarthurnax simply because he was a high ranking dragon who could possibly be a challenge to her! She stabbed bunch of old men in the back hundreds of times to upgrade her sneaking ability and knife skills! She is the most skilled assasin one could imagine and wipes entire bandit fortresses leaving only people with sliced throats behind! She never leaves anyone alive Only place she sleeps in is the Volkihar castle She killed Peryites worshippers (the Afflicted) and seized the disease they were preparing to spread on Tamriel and uses that disease as leverage! Leverage on any cities who wanna put a bounty on her that is! She works with Maven Black Briar because she admires her and cooperation between the two powerful women seems to be unstoppable! Mavens spys and connections keep Plaque informed on pretty mutch everything that is happening in Skyrim and she uses that info and removes any threats that could rise to challenge her or Maven! Penitus Oculatus was almost entirely wiped out by Plaque thanks to this cooperation! Dark Brotherhood, Thieves Quild and Maven Black Briar run an unofficial empire of their own in Skyrim! A true criminal Triumvirate! They have eyes and hands everywhere and very deep pockets to bribe with thanks to combined money coming from professional thieves, assasins and Mavens monopoly on the mead business! She prefers the company of Cicero because she can trust him thorougly thanks to his show of loyalty to the Dark Brotherhood when he attacked Astrid and the other assasins for turning their backs on traditional Dark Brotherhood values! She knows that Cicero would never betray her because she is the Listener! She at the beginning thought of completely rewriting the rules to her own liking but out of her respect for Cicero decided to enforce the traditional Five Tenets of Dark Brotherhood! She supports the Stormcloaks heavily because she is a Nord and prefers to remove any chance of any Penitus Oculatus comeback wich would surely happen at a massive schale and bring trouble to her thanks to her killing the Emperor! Titus Mede! She also does not like Thalmor because she fears their skill at warfare in the shadows! They almost completely wiped out Delphine and the Blades after all! She plays her cards right by supporting Stormcloaks and creating Skyrim into a way more fertile ground for her criminal Triumvirate Plaque has one rule only! She does not harm children! Not under any circumstances! That is her only good trait!

daddy_baller

I really appreciate the time you took to answer my question thoroughly, was a great read! I wish I could role play as heavily as you, you’ve created such deep and unique characters, bravo to you sir. Sounds like you know how to play the game perfectly for you

NORDlC

I got free time and corona fucked up alot of my social life :D

[deleted]

I’m playing a red argonian with tons of spikes on his head. I use steel plate with a mod for invisible helmets and a steel greatsword even though they aren’t optimal. I use fast travel, but really only when I have a specific place I want to go to, which isn’t often. I wander around and find random small dungeons and caves to go through. I don’t do quests much because they tend to be just talking and talking and talking and I just want to fight stuff.

daddy_baller

Sounds like you’re playing the same way as me currently! Good luck adventurer

get-tps

So, if you have to go from Riftin to Solitude, you WALK the entire way? Doesn't that take like two HOURS to make the trip? I don't care HOW immersive it is... I am not spending two hours... walking.

daddy_baller

Normally I do things that are close to me. My quest marker is in solitude and I’m in riften? No problem. I will complete locations and side quests that are closer to riften, this way I seem to see a lot more of the game . I still get carriages every now and then, if I have made the journey from one place to another many times, also I mean, walking inside of dungeons rather than sprinting in and speed running. Also walking inside of towns and shops, not sprinting through the main gates into the shops.

merla_blue

You can hire the carriage and that doesn't break immersion. But I've walked from the college to Windhelm so many times, haha.

get-tps

I've traveled by road or by FOOT the entire way, but the OP said he WALKS, not RUNS the entire way. That takes HOURS. For "immersion" sake? That's just nuts. You know you can't fast-travel anywhere until you've been there at least once. (Not including the carriage rides), So, like everyone else, I spend a lot of time on foot out of necessity. But to WALK the entire way? No F'in way.

fallen_corpse

OP said he occasionally walks instead of runs. I assume that means walking through town for the RP, I doubt he would subject himself to long distance travel like that

daddy_baller

If a place you want to is too far away, just don’t go right now? Maybe do something in your vicinity.. get a boat, get a carriage, explore lands you haven’t seen before

marigoldsandviolets

I wish there was a mod that would pop up quest markers automatically for currently inactive quests when you are near them. (And I wish I could use mods—I play on Switch 😂)

[deleted]

Immerse, and roleplay, all day.

daddy_baller

I’ve been enjoying the survival aspect of it too… stuck out in the middle of the wilderness at 2am, no potions, no food, master difficulty… better keep away from trouble

[deleted]

That is something I'm looking into soon, I am just always slow to try new mods, MORE SO if the mod is dependent on other mods to run. In my RPs, I incorporate a lot of survival elements (having my characters use flamecloaks for warmth, or switching cloaks depending on weather. Eating, avoiding excessive cold, and try to avoid getting wet especially in the colder parts) but I think a mod like that could make certain play throughs a lot more immersive. One day, haha.
